Wikipedia:Meetup/Ireland 1
This is a brief record of early attempts, 2007–2009.
Background
[edit]As far as I am aware Wikipedians in Ireland have never met. If I'm wrong please let me know. With this possibility in mind, I've added my name to the start of any potential list below. Somewhere west of the Shannon would be preferable although perhaps a tad unrealistic. If nothing then it will be interesting to see how many users are located in the area. --Candlewicke (talk) 19:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Further
[edit]Well... for me the easiest option would be Dublin, but lets see if there is more people interested, and where are they in Ireland! Eynar Oxartum (talk) 19:55, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Comment: Ha ha... one year and one week later, the first reply. Two and a half months later, no further replies. Ah well.
--Candlewicke (talk) 14:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)- Dublin wins for me because that's where I live, but anywhere reachable by train from here I have no objections to. Stifle (talk) 20:40, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- ::Another vote for Dublin here. Anyone think of putting this up n the Irish notice-board? Jaqian (talk) 14:38, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- I hear Cork is very plesant this time of year. Ceoil (talk) 13:11, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Tentative meetup
[edit]User:Cary Bass is visiting in August and would be interested in meeting people. Stifle (talk) 11:52, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, re above...also known as User:Bastique. I'll be there from August 13 to August 17. Also, we have a new email list for Wikimedians in Ireland and Wikimedians interested in Ireland available here. Any discussion about a meetup may be coordinated both on the list and here on this page concurrently :) Bastique demandez 15:26, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
6 October 2009
[edit]6th October 2009, Start: 18:00h, place: the Millennium Spire on O'Connell Street
Given that I'll be on holiday in Dublin from 5th to 7th October and will travel around Ballinamore thereafter, I'd like to suggest an international meet-up on 6th October 2009 in Dublin. Comming from Germany, a country with an active meet-up culture I'd be happy to spend some time with irish wikipedians in Dublin. Time an place should be given by somebody from Dublin, I guess... --08:41, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Hohenloh, thanks for answering me... Is there any change you could suggest a meetingpoint, a pub, café or museum ? --Abena1 (talk) 20:41, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest meeting at the Millennium Spire on O'Connell Street. I will probably be there if the meeting takes place in the evening (i.e. 1745 or later). Stifle (talk) 22:35, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Ceoil (talk) 07:09, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

- I've fixed it above. See you at the millenium sire on O'Connell Street starting from 18:00h. I'll bring a printout of the wikiball with me... We will find each other... --Abena1 (talk) 11:50, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- OK, We meet at 6pm on Oct 6 at the Spire. At a minimum Abena, Ceoil, Stifle, Hohenloh (and Clement) will be there. Any others are very welcome. This should be posted on Wikipedia:Irish Wikipedians' notice board news. Then we will get the Dart to Dun Laoghaire. I have arranged for a key to the National Maritime Museum. It is a beautiful old restored church, perhaps the only surviving church built specifically for mariners. I expect that we will be there circa 7pm, from there we can move to a local restaurant or bar or both - what are your preferences? I gather that Hohenloh will have to leave us early. unfortunate. I can arrange another museum visit. I will post again late Sunday or Monday. Now lets hope the weather is good. ClemMcGann (talk) 12:31, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- excellent. I trust in your preferences, anywhy it will be my first time in Dublin, so no plans from my side. I not be online till we meet, so if there is something to fix contact hohenloh, he's got my mobilenumber... --Abena1 (talk) 15:58, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
I'll be there
[edit]--Abena1 (talk) 08:41, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I'd be happy to meet up (kann auch Deutsch sprechen). Hohenloh + 23:58, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- I´m in spain at present but will be back by then - I probably get you into the recently restored but still unopen maritime museum in dun laoghaire - if interested - ClemMcGann (talk) 17:12, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds great ! --Abena1 (talk) 11:45, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- I hope to be at the spire at 6 on the 6th. then we could get the dart to the museum - but it might be better earlier, in better daylight ClemMcGann (talk) 14:22, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds great ! --Abena1 (talk) 11:45, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
That date/time suits fine, as I'll be in town that day. Can't make it to the museum though, as I'll probably be playing later on. Hohenloh + 16:27, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
I'd like to, but no time
[edit]Other reasons
[edit]- Eynar Oxartum (talk) 11:02, 26 September 2009 (UTC) Unfortunately, it will be impossible to attend for me, as I moved to Madrid, and I forgot to remove my name from the list. I go to Dublin from time to time, but not that weekend :( Anyway, thanks to Abena1 and Sir James D for contacting me.
- I work during the day but can probably make it if after 1745. Stifle (talk) 22:35, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- Stifle, its now 2009! 1745 ;) Otherwise, sounds like a plan. I don't do Temple bar though. Ceoil (talk) 07:06, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would like to be there but am not in Ireland often these days. Can I suggest you consider discussing a future photo event? There are nearly 5,000 Irish related articles that need images as listed at Category:Ireland articles needing images. Have a great time. ww2censor (talk) 15:35, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
