Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland 10
What's it about?
[edit]Only 18.8% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women. Help celebrate International Women's Day 2021 by bridging this gap, with the Women in Red project! Come to Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum, where you can help tell the stories of New Zealand women who have remained article free for far too long. This event is for all editing levels – learn about how you can help by editing Wikipedia articles, or feel free to use our resources to get started right away.
This event is part of Auckland Museum's Wikimedian in Residence project, funded by a Wikicite Grant.
The Dashboard for the event can be found here

Preparation
[edit]- If you're coming, try to create a Wikipedia account beforehand: don't wait until the day to do it! Here's a form you can use if you like. Creating an account makes editing much easier (here's more info on why you should). You'll need to pick a "handle" for your username; you could use your real name, but it's nice to have the option to be a bit anonymous if you want. Here's some advice on picking a username.
- Read up on Wikipedia: there are lots of tutorials, like the Wikipedia Adventure, and useful guides, like the Editing Wikipedia brochure.
- If you add photos to Commons so they can be used Wikipedia, they'll need to be free of any copyright or released under a Creative Commons license that lets anyone use them. If you're not familiar with Creative Commons, see Useful Links below. If you've taken photos and are happy to donate them, great! Bring them along. If you know of anyone who has good photos, approach them and ask them if they'd like their work to be seen and used by people all over the world (with them credited, of course).
Articles to develop
[edit]Feel free to look at our list of articles to develop! Articles on New Zealand women should pass notability (more info here: WP:BIO), which typically means the person is well-known enough to be discussed by multiple sources in the news, or in academic articles (though for each profession, there are agreed upon conventions for who can have an article).
Otherwise, feel free to browse Category:New Zealand women by occupation to find a page that already exists, and see if there's any missing information that you could add.
