Mobile visual editing broken?

I've noticed some really weird app behavior editing on mobile in the last few hours. Neither visual nor source editing worked properly, I sometimes got "Invalid server response" errors. Is there an incident happening right now? Is there something like status.wiki.x.io where I can check if this is known already? It happened not just in the browser but also using the Wikipedia app on my Android phone. AncientWalrus (talk) 10:38, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found http://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and it says no incident right now. Submitting translations for website UI

Is there a proper channel to submit translations for the website's UI? I've been aiding my learning in CHamoru (Chamorro) by reading articles in the language and having my UI set to it. I noticed that, although the coverage is wider than I expected, the UI translations are incomplete. For example, on the left-hand side panel, in the section “Contribute.” Of the six elements (the title being included), there are two which currently lack translation: the header “Contribute,” and the section “Learn to edit.” I think that these could be translated to “Na'guaha” and “Latungo' ritoka,” respectively. @Vivian S Zitek: Most interface messages are part of the MediaWiki software which powers Wikipedia. It's used by thousands of other wikis in various languages and many messages have numerous translated versions. You are very welcome to contribute to that.
It's possible for a MediaWiki installation to add its own interface messages in some places, e.g. the sidebar controlled by MediaWiki:Sidebar. This is the English Wikipedia and we very rarely translate our own local messages to other languages. "Contribute" is made by MediaWiki:Interaction. Special:PrefixIndex/MediaWiki:Interaction/ only shows four translations, and that's four more than usual. I was surprised to see so many. "Learn to edit" is made by MediaWiki:Introduction. Special:PrefixIndex/MediaWiki:Introduction/ shows no translations. That's more normal. Our local MediaWiki messages with translations can only be edited by administrators. For a small language like Chamorro, I'm afraid the English Wikipedia is not going to bother with translations even if a volunteer is willing to submit them. @PrimeHunter Thank you for the detailed response. It's understandable, albeit disappointing, that the language is too small to warrant changing things on the English Wikipedia. I had a suspicion that that might be the case, so I appreciate getting more information about it. Thank you & @TSventon for taking the time to reply!

@Vivian S Zitek: I found some statistics. I think around 1% of our page views are from logged in users who can change interface language. We have 48,454,929 user accounts. According to Wikipedia:Database reports/User preferences, 8 users had set Chamoru as interface language at the English Wikipedia in 2019. This includes inactive accounts. It doesn't include users who have set Chamoru for all Wikimedia wikis at Special:GlobalPreferences and sometimes view English Wikipedia pages. Most Wikimedia users probably don't know this option. If we made messages in Chamoru, I guess maybe a handful of users would see them. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:08, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found an edit 1 where someone copied the contents of a YouTube description into an article. I've reverted it because that is definitely not a reliable source, but I was wondering if it's worth revdelling? —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 12:51, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I think the person who added the text (User:RCStarter) doesn't know what a reliable source is, or what content is worth inclusion. I have tried explaining our policies to RCStarter on their talk page. So far they have not shown that they understand, and they have continued making edits without reliable sources. ANI might be necessary if they continue this behavior. CodeTalker (talk) 16:08, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i made corrections in many companies Legal name and Trade name (d/b/a), e.g. Swiggy, Rapido, Ola but one user reverted my edits.

Your most recent edit, to Asian Paints, was unhelpful. You added a value for 'former_name' to the infobox, but it had no effect as that parameter is not supported by 'infobox company'. Maproom (talk) 16:22, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It looks to me as if your edits were not supported by any citation, and furthermore were possibly contrary to the policy in WP:COMMONNAME.
In any case, this is how Wikipedia works: somebody makes an edit, somebody else doesn't agree with the edit and reverts them, and then they have a discussion. That is your next step - open a discussion on the talk page of the article, and ping the editor who reverted. Your aim is not to prove anybody right or wrong, but to reach consensus, according to Wikipedia's policies. See WP:BOLD. ColinFine (talk) 17:25, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sayeed2k: Don't tell us this. Instead, tell the other editor. Remember that you are trying to reach consensus, not win an argument, so just make your point in a friendly manner. The other guy is not your enemy, and like you is trying to improve Wikipedia. Translations

I have several translations for my page Occupational Safety and Health literacy. These translations have been done by professionals. @Davidmagee9 firstly, it is not "your page" but an article that anyone can edit. You have no ownership and it's important to understand that.
If you want to add translations of this article onto other language Wikipedias, you'll need to go to the specific language Wikipedia (for example, fr.wiki.x.io) and create a new article there. You will have to follow their new article processes. Note that every language project is different and may have different policies and guidelines.
Once you have created the article on the other Wikipedia, you can add an interlanguage link. Instructions for doing so are here: Wikipedia:Translate us Qcne (talk) 17:11, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, Davidmagee9, there is an interesting point here: if those translations were done by professionals, then (according to the rules of English Wikipedia) I believe they would be classed as WP:paid editors, and (if they were contributing to en-wiki) would have to make a formal declaration. The rules of other language Wikipedias might be different, but I doubt it: I believe that one is Wikimedia Foundation policy.
I'm guessing, however, that they will not be submitting their translations to the other Wikipedia, but you will be doing it, in which case they are not editing Wikipedia, and do not have to make a declaration. But I must ask: what is your position? Are you in any way paid to create these articles (including, employed to work on the subject even if not specifically on a Wikipedia article)? If so, you are a paid editor, and must make the formal declaration on your user page in en-wiki, and (I think) any other language Wikipedia you introduce the material to. --ColinFine (talk) 17:36, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Davidmagee9: The translator of a work owns the copyright in the resulting "derived work". Yes, since the original was licensed CC-BY-SA, the translator is obliged to license the translation CC-BY-SA also, but technically, you cannot do this in the translator's behalf. Please make sure that the translator explicitly marks the translation as CC-BY-SA before you (or the translator) uses this tranlation anywhere, including any Wikipedia. -Arch dude (talk) 19:17, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's no more important to Wikipedia than any other bit of information. If it's "important" to you, you probably have a WP:COI and you should declare it. But I will add that the chances of an article about http://www.fooddoz.com are remote. Wikipedia is only interested in what independent reliable sources say about a subject, so unless your blog (I'm guessing it's yours? Apologies if I'm wrong) has been the subject of articles in major newspapers or websites with a reputation for editorial control, there is literally nothing that can go into an article about it.
If I'm right, and it is your blog, you should also be aware of the advice on editing with a conflict of interest. ColinFine (talk) 20:27, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
