[edit]Help correcting a date link
[edit]http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Lists_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States page has tables of links for years and months with a broken link for Oct 2018. Sorry, but unable to figure out how to correct the errant link which is http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States,_October_2018
Multiple pages use the broken link in various tables, often twice on a given page.
Thank you! --NavajoDutchman (talk) 11:28, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- NavajoDutchman, IT seems to stem from {{Number of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States months list}} and is complex to work out when're and how to correct Fiddle Faddle 11:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Not done - I have given it a very hard stare and am baffled. Fiddle Faddle 11:38, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @NavajoDutchman: A simple error, corrected in this edit. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism help request from Sdkb
[edit]I have noticed some vandalism at [[1]]. Namely, A constant change of the name of Principal onm the right hand page, as well as other staff working at the school. Names of students or food items replace staff names. Though the school, does revert it back, it would be good to either ban certain random users or protect aspects of the page from change. You can verify the vandalism changes from the school website. http://www.rsbdubai.sch.ae/
Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, RSBConnect (talk) 14:47, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
OP has been blocked for promotion. Sdkb, I don't think you created a help request for the page, right? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:25, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Knaresborough / Knaresborough Online
[edit]Courtesy link: Knaresborough
With reference to your reply - Of course I have an interest in what I am adding as I run the community page. How can you say there is a conflict of intersts as LIDL is mentioned on the page and this is DEFINATELY a business!!!! Our page supplies the community with information about Knaresborough and so it is of valid interest to those who look at all things Knaresborough on Wkipiedia. You have Knaresborough Post listed on the page and they ARE a commercial business. In fact Knaresborough online is the same as the Knaresborough Post except we are online and the are a traditional print!!! How can you honestly justify allowing LIDL to be on the page and not our towns community website.
I would like to take this up as an official complaint as I feel we are been unfairly treated Knaresborough Girl (talk) 15:58, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Knaresborough Girl: I replied on your talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 16:14, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Knaresborough Girl:
- Please read and understand our policy on conflict of interest. Having a conflict of interest means you have some professional or personal connection to the topic you are trying to write about. It makes it difficult if not impossible to write about the topic from a neutral point of view. In addition, if you work for Knaresborough Online, you have some mandatory disclosures to make.
- Regarding your edits to Knaresborough, you are trying to add your website to the section on "Culture and community". It does not fit there. If it should be there at all, it would probably be best under External links; however, because of your conflict of interest, you should not edit the page directly. Instead, if you think that website would be a valuable external link, you should visit the talk page, and put {{Request edit}} there, along with stating the changes you think should be made to the article. A disinterested editor will then come along (eventually - it can take a while as we are all volunteers) and review your request and decide if it is appropriate or not.
- Anything in the body of the article needs to be supported by reliable sources that indicate where the information comes from and that it is important. Keep this in mind if your edit request is anything more substantial than adding an external link.
- I hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions, please ask. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:16, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Knaresborough Girl: I think you may want to have a look at Wikipedia's guides on conflicts of interest and the Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. It looks like you're trying to get the "Knaresborough Online" website on the Knaresborough page; Red Phoenix left a useful message at the top of your talk page, which summarises why your edits have been reverted, per WP:NOTWEBHOST. Wikipedia's gudielines on external links may also be of interest to you. Arch dude answered before I could, and their reply on your talk page looks useful. Seagull123 Φ 16:17, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
In response to your reply...I admit I first of all entered the website of the page and this was a mistake which i then corrected. So I wrote 'Knaresborough Online is a community and visitor page for the town. WHICH IT IS! How can you let LIDL be on there when they are quite clearly a big business. Our page supported the local town through the lockdown with information about where to buy food, info how to help those shielding and inportant numbers for those who are struggling including the SAMARITANS !!!! So how can you say we are not relevant when you have allowed LIDL on there AND Frazer theatre which is a commercial business too! This is wrong. Knaresborough Online is the only online information page which helps residents and also promotes tourism to our town which it needs right now following lockdown. This is unfair, LIDL dont provide such a service to locals...they sell food! I made a mistake entering the website but that is all. Please just put those few words on showing we exist. Knaresborough Girl (talk) 16:29, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Knaresborough Girl,
can you prove Knaresborough Online is notable, per Wikipedia's standards?what relevance does the site have? Do you have independent sources that claim that it does what you claim? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:33, 9 August 2020 (UTC)- Knaresborough Girl No one is "letting" LIDL be on there. There are sources that discuss the importance of the town's supermarkets. Anything included in the body of an article should be supported by Reliable sources. If there are sources discussing Knaresborough Online, then that information can be considered for inclusion. Those sources must be independent - in other words, it can't be Knaresborough Online writing about itself. If you know of such sources, please follow the advice I gave you above to visit the talk page, put {{Request edit}} there, and state the changes you think should be made to the article, including citing the sources. Also, follow the mandatory disclosure instructions at WP:PAID - do this first before doing anything else.~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:55, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
How reliable are archive.is links as reference?
[edit]How reliable are archive.is links as reference? Recently I am seeing archive.is links used as reference in wiki articles. Man Floor (talk) 16:48, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Archive.is and other archiving websites just create archives of other pages. The archive.is link is not the publisher/work, it is simply a link to a website. It is the website itself that needs to be a Reliable Source. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:50, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Article version numbers
[edit]Hi. Is there a way to find out the revision number of a particular edit on an article? My edit to Oda Schottmüller was revently reverted and I'm wondering whether the revision was for only my edit.Squeezdakat (talk) 17:12, 9 August 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Squeezdakat (talk • contribs) 17:11, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Squeezedat:, yes. If you look at the history page for Oda Schottmüller you can see your edit as the second version down from the top. If you click the date next to your user name, you will see the page as you edited it and in the address bar you will see
oldid=972004006
. That is the version number. The history page shows that Scope creep reverted your edit for reasons of copy-editing. If you wish to discuss this further, you should start a discussion at the article's talk page. I hope that helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)- @Eggishorn: Thank you! Your answer is helpful. Squeezdakat (talk) 18:23, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Folks. @Squeezdakat: Your copyedit didn't really add anything, nor really improve the article in any significant way. Also i'm looking for a comprehensive end-to-end copyedit on this article and several others. I was told I'm separating the noun from the adjective, so it needs a real in-depth copyedit. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 17:45, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Scope creep: I understand. On reviewing my edit, I can see how it can be seen as not adding anything. Cheers! Squeezdakat (talk) 18:23, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Guess I'll see this article hanging around in the backlog until next month... —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:29, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
how do i make a page to publish
[edit]i want to write a page but i dont know... can u help please explain — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lifeissona (talk • contribs) 20:33, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Lifeissona, if you're looking to create an article for Wikipedia, please be aware that it is one of the hardest things you can do on here, and I would recommend doing some easier stuff like making smaller edits to existing articles first. If you absolutely still want to create one, it is strongly recommended that you carefully read WP:YFA and use the Article Creation Wizard. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:52, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, Lifeissona. If you are only 10, you are very welcome to edit Wikipedia, but please understand that we are here to build an encyclopaedia, not (mostly) to play. I suggest you have a look at advice for younger editors. --ColinFine (talk) 21:02, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Questions
[edit]I have been doing some Wikipedia for a while but there are still some things I do not know.
Can I create multiple sandboxes? Does an original page need to be perfect? What will happen if I accidentally leave out a link or put some wrong information in? How can I make a WikiProject? How can I make a template? How can I find good photos since 99% of them have copyright? How can I make sure that my page is included in a WikiProejct that I'm a part of? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Webecoolalasdair (talk • contribs) 20:40, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
edit: forgot to sign the page Webecoolalasdair (talk) 20:40, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Webecoolalasdair:
- Yes, you can create multiple sandboxes. Just name them something like User:Webecoolalasdair/sandbox, User:Webecoolalasdair/sandbox 2, User:Webecoolalasdair/To do list, User:Webecoolalasdair/sandbox 3, etc.
- An original page does not need to be perfect or complete. It does need to cite some reliable sources, establish notability of its topic, and be legible. If you accidentally leave out a link or put incorrect information in, fix it as soon as you can.
- I don't know. Can you?
- The best way to find good photos is to go out and take them yourself. For historical topics, if the photo was taken and published prior to 1925, it's probably public domain and safe to use. Also, photos taken by the U.S. government and some other governmental entities are public domain (but check the specific country or state government carefully). For some things, such as commercial logos, fair use may apply, but be careful and make sure you understand how to write the rational.
- You include a page in a wikiproject by affixing the appropriate template to the talk page. New Page Reviewers may come along and apply it for you if you forget.

importance of nationality
[edit]To assist contributors correctly identify the nationality of someone they are writing about, they should be knowledgable and intelligent enough to know that EVERYONE born in NORTHERN Ireland after TUESDAY 3rd MAY 1921 is BRITISH not IRISH. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C5:4702:AD00:25B5:3D26:3F34:CB20 (talk) 22:36, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Whichever specific article you have issues with, raise them at the article talkpage. And see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Ireland-related articles. NI or UK depends on whether you're a unionist or a republican, and Wikipedia doesn't side with either side. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:07, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- People can and do disagree about that in good faith. As noted above, Wikipedia does not take sides on the issue. 331dot (talk) 00:19, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm proud to say that we have fine editors here in Wikipedia who are as unionist as I am republican (don't let the color fool ya); and we do our best to work together for the greater good. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:22, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Password
[edit]Can’t reset password. Never get email link — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.44.100.21 (talk) 23:51, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Make sure you have typed the address in correctly. There also could be a delay in the system. If you cannot recover your password, you will need to create a new account and identify it as a successor to your old account. 331dot (talk) 00:21, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
