Image's request under progression Request taken by Niamh (talk) 22:04, 30 December 2013 (UTC).[reply]
Done -- kind of. I've vectorised it and added the labels, but it appears Wikimedia's ever-so-buggy SVG rastering module drops off various elements of the image if it is displayed too small. I'm going to see what I can do to resolve that issue. Niamh (talk) 02:52, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the textures and replaced them with simple paths instead. This improved things somewhat, but the flank vent plume still disappears at resolutions less than 150px but appears at 200px and higher. I suspect that it is the blur fliter on the plume that's the issue. However, it's probably good enough for an initial cut. Niamh (talk) 18:47, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Debold the font and shrink it a bit, though, and is there anything that can be done about the flatness of the caldera? In fact it might be better to replace it with the plume from this image, or otherwise one of these. ResMar 02:41, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've made some further modifications to the file and made an alternate version with the labels removed. Let me test it out and then I'll probably close this issue as resolved. ResMar 18:57, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Done: Third time's the charm! Niamh (talk) 00:38, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can you remove the blue background and make sure that borders of letters are visible? Also, can you move it to Commons? George Ho (talk) 02:12, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That will make it different from the source material. The blue background was matched against the image you provided above (including gradient shading). Also, in neither your screenshot nor the existing non-free image does the text have a border (both have drop shadows). I'm not sure I'm comfortable making material changes to the logo such as adding a border when no border exists in the sources. Niamh (talk) 02:29, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The logo is uncopyrightable because of commons:COM:TOO and low threshold of originality. There is no reason not to.George Ho (talk) 02:35, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a matter of copyright but one of accuracy and correctness. There's no reason to have a logo that is not representative of the actual logo. I simply do not wish to invent graphical elements of a logo from whole cloth. Niamh (talk) 02:48, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Harry Potter logo is actually gold, but the Wikipedia copy of the logo is black. Regarding accuracy and correctness, the blue background was cropped from Hulu screenshot, and is only for the 2nd season of the show. The whole logo won't be affected by minor bordering as long as the whole font of the logo is true to the logo. George Ho (talk) 02:58, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, the blue background IS representative then. You still haven't given me any justification to make this change other than "why not?". As an aside, I made the change locally just to see what it would look like. It looked terrible. Trust me on that. I also reversed the colours (blue letters on transparent background). That looked less terrible. Here's all three together: http://www.flickr.com/photos/111880835@N06/11437088763/in/set-72157638798843594 Niamh (talk) 15:49, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like the second row one from Flickr, but I'd like it without the opaque or something like that. You can create a separate file of it, please, without changing the file. Modern Family, The Cosby Show, and other stand-alone logos exist in Wikipedia. The Remington Steele logo without the background must be uploaded to make the logo look good. Shadows are no big deal, if you know what I mean. I can handle the shadows well. And you are too concerned about trademarks. As for the blue background, the unfree image omits the blue background and has just fingerprint, lip marks, black background, and a pistol. None of these things are subject to discussion in the article, and there are too many opening sequences of one show. Ask WT:TV or Masem about truly representing the logo. George Ho (talk) 20:38, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Again, this has nothing to do with trademark or copyright or anything else you've brought up. This is about adding a graphical element that is not part of the logo contrary to WP:LOGO. In none of your examples was a graphical element arbitrarily added to the logos. None of them had borders, shadows, or any other material elements added to them. So far, you've not provided a justification for this change. Unless a good justification is provided, I can not in good conscience add a border simply because "you like it better". However, you or another graphist are free to do so, of course. Niamh (talk) 21:46, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All right, if no one want to create a white logo, how about a black (or blue) stand-alone, background-less logo? George Ho (talk) 01:19, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That I will do. Niamh (talk) 01:38, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Niamh (talk) 01:45, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can other suitable colors be created? I've already uploaded images to Commons, yet the blue needs to be a little lighter. George Ho (talk) 05:12, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jingle Bells

[edit]

No action for a week. Resolving it.

Article(s): Jingle Bells

Request:

Here's a little request for Christmas. Please vectorise this musical notation. A few things you should know though, it has a load of issues. The punctuation is bad, for example, there should be a comma after the second "bells", and "O" should be "O!"; also, the music is written a bit sloppily: the quarter rest at the end of the second line is too far right. One could also question giving the same horizontal space to notes of different length, but that's a stylistic choice, albeit one that would make this far more difficult to use as sheet music.--109.76.136.237 (talk) 23:54, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

An interesting note is that it appears this image is a derivative of this one (or perhaps they derive from the same third source). Although the font is different, it has the exact same spelling quirks, metre, and spacing as the sample input. Niamh (talk) 00:16, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done: I've not colourised it because I thought it was a mite cheesy. However, if you like, I can do that. Hopefully this does what you need though. Niamh (talk) 08:38, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but I need it copied to Commons so other wikis can use it 109.78.207.144 (talk) 16:43, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because of server sync lag (see the AMD discussion above), I tend to keep the file on enwiki until all changes are done. Additionally, since copying to Commons is a task that anyone can do, I leave it up to the requester to copy to Commons if desired. However, since you are an IP, I'll take pity and move it for you. Niamh (talk) 20:22, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. 109.78.207.144 (talk) 20:39, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome smile Niamh (talk) 21:04, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There's one issue: In the second system, the C# is labelled with a sharp on every note thus affected. It should only be mrked on the first one (and with the natural at the end of the bar. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:58, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I attempted to do that, but MuseScore wouldn't allow it. It was either all marked # or the second note was forced to a natural. Given that, I deferred to the software. As near as I could tell, it also wouldn't let me add that sharp to the bar signature. How big a deal is this? I can change it manually, but is this a real issue or a stylistic one? Niamh (talk) 03:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done Doesn't matter. I removed the extra sharps and updated the commons version only. The enwiki version will be deleted shortly anyway so I'm not going to bother updating both. (This is why I don't copy to Commons until AFTER all changes are made.) Niamh (talk) 03:31, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid there's one other issue I probably should have said: one does not beam notes in sung music unless the notes beamed are the same syllable. This song doesn't have any slurs in the section quoted, so none of them should be beamed. Secondly, it should be in 2/4, not 4/4: see http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/File:One_Horse_Open_Sleigh_chorus_notation.jpg Adam Cuerden (talk) 03:42, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I buy this claim. This isn't a vocal score. This is a piano reduction with lyrics attached. Vocal score lines tend to not have chords. Besides, there's hundreds of counter examples with a simple Google search. Additionally, the input source was 4/4; the output was 4/4. What exactly are you asking for here? Are you actually changing the request for vectorisation of a completely different file now? That's a totally different arrangement from that of the original request. Niamh (talk) 04:14, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm simply pointing out the original was in 2/4, and providing evidence to that effect. It seems to make more sense. Further, vocal arrangements are quite regularly in chords when you're looking at an SATB arrangement, and if you compare the SATB arrangement in that link to the one here, you'll see it's actually quite similar, albeit in Ab instead of G. It's not exactly the same, but close. See, for example,http://conquest.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/9/9a/IMSLP47928-PMLP101516-O_come_all_ye_faithful_-__Adeste_Fideles__Wade.pdf a similar a capella arrangement that uses chords. A quick check of any operatic vocal score will find that the chorus is reduced in this way in 99% of cases, albeit there will usually be an orchestral accompaniment, reduced to piano, and written below the chords used for vocal music. I take it you don't sing?
While it's not unheard of to beam notes where they don't represent one syllable, it's certainly not the preference. Adam Cuerden (talk) 06:46, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
SATB? Opera? This is "Jingle Bells"! However, I did do that "quick check" and looked up the score of"Aida","La Bohème", and amore contemporary aria, none of which support your claim (i.e. all the vocal staves are unchorded). Although I'm sure such pieces could be found if I looked hard enough, none of it matters because "Jingle Bells" isn't an opera and this score isn't SATB. Please note the brace on the system (not a bracket) meaning a single instrument, namely a piano or similar. This is simple, traditional popular music and this embossing style is very common in that context[2][3][4][5][6][7] and of course[8]. I'm not saying you are wrong in general, but I'm more saying that you are applying the wrong set of standards to this piece. Niamh (talk) 20:16, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to do anything else to the image, try to do it before December 25th. 109.78.207.144(talk) 14:24, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why? There's no deadline. No one owns this image on Wikipedia. The flip-side of that is that no one, including me, has any obligation to do anything with it. Just like with the rest of Wikipedia, this image is subject to continual improvement and modification by anyone who cares to do so. Right now, there's just a (minor) disagreement on what those improvements, if any, should be. Niamh (talk) 18:36, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
While I don't have time right now to type this music out, the OP is correct in that the notation of the first file is clearly SATB. The bracing represents not a single instrument (as that would be a curved brace) but a set of similar instruments, in this case voices. It's also true that you typically wouldn't brace notes unless they are the same syllable, by convention. Not trying to throw a wrench in the works but it seems that you were getting angry at the OP when you shouldn't have been. Finale or Sibelius should make quick work of it.The Haz talk 05:21, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done: Updated to use lilypond code (included in file description). gringer (talk) 23:09, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are confusing two different things. I was referring to my version, which had a curly brace, not the original. Adam Cuerden was remarking on my version as well. The original image (which are you talking about) was not part of the discussion. But, whatever. You've replaced it, and I don't care enough to make an issue of it. Niamh (talk) 04:38, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tooth cross-sectional anatomy ... new image will probably be used a lot

[edit]
Resolved

Article(s): Potentially a lot. Dental anatomy and sub pages. Related dental pathology articles.

Request:

Myself and another editor are working on toothache right now, and we have not yet discovered a decent cross-sectional anatomy diagram of a human tooth. I have pasted here .jpg files that potentially could be used as a basis. There are also .svg version but I do not understand how or why these are different. We both had a brief and inexpert search on Commons and these were the best. To summarize the qualities of the ideal intended diagram:
  1. Realistic colors, as in basic anatomy tooth.jpg
  2. Realistic textures, e.g. lines drawn in dentin which are representative of the true orientation of dentin tubules, similarly with enamel, periodontal ligament fibers, medullary and cortical bone in the alveolar process, etc.
  3. Representation of nerves
  4. Lack of labeling-- I am happy to label the diagram after the graphist has finished. Also I think it is better to label with numbers so it can be used on other language wikis.

An excellent diagram can be found here from Grays anatomy:[9]. Doesn't have to be nearly as detailed as this, but suggest this can be used for reference, and everything you might need to know about how teeth look like can be found here:[10]

Many thanks if anyone can help. -- Lesion (talk) 16:11, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

=) Thank you Lesion (talk) 14:23, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can find a first draft here but I haven't added anything to the dental pulp yet. I wanted you to tell me if this is what you want before I do to much work on it.
When I look at that link there is some darker spots at the end of the lines, do you have them also?
They disappear when you zoom in or download and open it so it has some to do with the presentation. So tell me if you see it and give me feedback so far. --Goran tek-en (talk) 21:04, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for giving this project your attention. Yes this is the kind of thing I had in mind. Some constructive comments:
  • yes darker spots can be seen at this size
  • orientation of the lines in the enamel (white outer layer) is accurate to life
  • orientation of the lines in the dentin (tan inner layer, which will represent dentinal tubules), is not entirely true to life. Around the "waist" of the tooth (cervical margin), the lines have been drawn horizontally. In life, these are not horizontal but they are oblique. See: [11] for reference.
  • The shading on the enamel looks good!
Other features that would be good to add:
  • Short lines radiating from the roots of the tooth (to represent periodontal ligament fibers), orientated as in[12]
  • Some simple red, blue and yellow lines (to represent arterioles, venules and nerves respectively), orientated as in above reference. There is no need for that level of detail
  • A layer covering the roots (to represent cementum). Should not be green like in "Cross sections of teeth intl.svg", but instead a more realistic color similar, but distinguishable from the dentin tan color.
Many thanks, and apologies for being so demanding. I am a perfectionist but I have no talent for this kind of thing, which makes a frustrating combination when I try to make diagrams =/ Lesion (talk) 21:55, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are not to demanding, if I do something I want it to be as good as it can so no problem. Of course I will add more details, this first draft was just to make sure that we understood each other.
Question: Do you want the yellow nerves to be on one side and the blue/red on the other side as in this[13], or should they be all together? --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:00, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, hmmm... I suppose having the nerves and blood vessels on both sides would be more accurate, but what ever is easier for you. Many thanks, Lesion (talk) 00:11, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look here and then give me feedback on what to add, change, remove or what ever. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:12, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks good! I wouldn't remove anything at this point.

  • Love the periodontal ligament fibers (blue lines). This is a better diagram for this than anything else we had before. Small suggestion is to add "circular fibers" which would appear as a group of blue dots because they are in the plane of the cross-section. See right had labels on [14] for guide. I anticipate that we could do with a second version of this diagram which is zoomed in on the detail of the gingival fibers. I have added our current diagram for "gum anatomy" topics so you can see why we replace that.
  • Blood vessels and pulp look great. Suggesting is to make the main nerve more obvious- i.e. a thicker yellow line to accompany the main vein and artery. Again see Gray's diagram above for reference.
  • Bone is full of holes like Swiss cheese. Perhaps it would be good to add this texture, but in a way that does not distract too heavily from the tooth details...

Great job, thanks Lesion (talk) 22:13, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look here and give me feedback.
We can discuss the other one when this is done. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:44, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I like that, not sure how others feel (@Ian Furst:). Should the main nerve be made more obvious as a thick yellow line? I think it is almost there. Certainly already it is better than any of the previous diagrams we had, thank you for putting in this effort.Lesion (talk) 14:53, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see the thick main nerve now, will add it. How many that should have a say about how it looks is up to you. But sometimes it can get to complicated if there is many different ideas. If you decide on this then others can have there version made also... -- Goran tek-en (talk) 16:10, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for all the work on this guys. I think it looks amazing. Two small critiques, the periodontal ligament fibres look too contrasty (if that's a word) to me and are the same colour as the veins. I would make them closer to the soft tissue and (if it's easy) smaller diameter. I would bring the bone colour closer to that of dentin, since it's a similar make-up. Thanks again for doing all of this. Ian Furst (talk) 16:55, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes it's hard to understand what you guys mean as I don't know to much about this. Anyway I have made changes as what I think you mean and you can have a look here. Give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 20:14, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

for someone without the technical background you've done an amazing job. Thanks. The picture looks perfect to me.Lesion? Ian Furst (talk) 14:13, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, this is definitely improvement from the previous diagrams. I can DL the image and add some labels, but suggest (i) these stay as numbers so it can be used on other language wikis and (ii) we keep them minimal so as not to distract form the detail of the image.Lesion (talk) 01:06, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Question:

  • I don't understand what you mean by DL or (i) and (ii)?
  • Should I add some numbers or will someone else do that?
  • If you want me to upload it now, should it be under a new name and if so what. Also give me category/ies for it and information for it? --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:50, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Goran - DL means download and (i) and (ii) are just about adding labels to the diagram (rather than putting word labels, he's saying we should use numbers - that way we can use the same diagram on different language wiki's). I (or maybe Lesion can) add the labels. However, I use Photoshop CS4 and can't save as .svg I could save in PS .eps or PS .pdf but I'm not sure if these are fully vectorized or accepted at commons - normally I just upload a high res .jpg (if you have advice on how I should save and upload other pictures it's appreciated).Ian Furst (talk) 15:42, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ian Furst:Photoshop is mainly a bitmap creating/editing type of program. You can export paths which are vectors and they can be used inside the program as a tool. PS EPS from Photoshop is bitmap and not vector. PDF can, depending on the creating program contain either/or or both, it is just a kind of container. EPS is also a container, Encapsulated Post Script.
I use as much as I can open source programs instead of proprietary programs and they are so expensive. You can download open source programs for free and they work very well. Gimp is a bitmap (photos and that type of images) program and do the same things as Photoshop does. Inkscape is a vector (illustrations, drawings and so on) program and do the same thing as Illustrator or Freehand e.a. and it's that program I have used to work on the tooth.
We should always try to keep the images/illustrations that we can as vector images. They are more easy to edit, often smaller file sizes, and you can zoom in or out without loosing any details or sharpness. So to add legend to the tooth one should use a vector program.
JPG use (as you probably know) a lossy compression and is basically very good to create small file sizes. I'm not to fond of it as it actually throw away information every time you save as it, and that you can never get back. Especially if you open and save a jpg time after time it can get really terrible. When one is working on an image you should always save in another format. Gimp has *.xcf and before Photoshop had *.psd (maybe it still does) as its own format which is the best to use during working. Then when you are done you save a copy as jpg with high quality (I use 95-100) which you upload to commons.
I don't know if this helped you but just ask again if you think I can help in any way. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:09, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry been busy last few days. Might be better if you and Ian sorted the labels then because I still don't know what vectorize and .svg files are etc. Should we make a zoomed in version to show the details of the periodontal ligament around the neck of the tooth, to replace File:The Periodontium.jpg? Suggest essential labels for the main diagram could be enamel, dentin, cementum, pulp chamber, root canal, crown, root, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament, blood vessels and nerve. Better to use numbers yes. Lesion (talk) 14:57, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re name of file, this is not important (as long as I know what the file is called). Re categories, if you are uploading to commons I think there is a cat:tooth diagrams. Hope that helps, Lesion (talk) 14:59, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK - if you can upload it to commons in a vectorized format that can be opened by PS (it's the only thing I'm proficient with - sorry), I'll download, add the numbers and load a different named file with English labels as a .psd and a .jpg. thank you for the info. Ian Furst (talk) 15:52, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but to me it's really a waste of my time if we upload it as a bitmap .psd and/or .jpg, then we loose most of the advantages in doing this vectored image. It has to be uploaded as a svg file so that every one in the future can edit it, enlarge and so on. Commons will automatically render png (also bitmap) versions in different sizes that you can use if you would like. You might think that this is not important but to me it is, very.
Now you can look here were I have added the legend. You have to check that this it's right and I already know that 5 is wrong. Give me feedback on it and then I will upload it as a svg file.
sounds good. @Lesion: I think we're better to leave all the number/labels off of the base version then - what we want to label with vary by article. Ping'd lesion just to make sure he's ok with it, but I can make a sufficiently high-res version for the articles we're working on with labels added from what you've done. Thanks again for all the work. Ian Furst (talk) 18:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. Lesion (talk) 18:53, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK Goran - if you're ok with all of this, upload the unlabeled version and we'll play with it from there being sure to save it to a different file name when changed so everyone has easy access to the .svg in the future. Thanks again.

You can put up a request for a new version of File:The Periodontium.jpg and write in it that I will take it and I will do that as soon as I see the request. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:48, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gum cross-sectional anatomy

Request: A new diagram to complement the new cross-sectional tooth anatomy diagram above, and to replace the old one. Ideally The new diagram would have all the same features labeled as the old, and show the same sort of area (i.e. zoomed in on the gum). I was looking again at the new tooth cross-section and it is very good, well done. IMO, no ... this zoomed in diagram is mostly to show the detail of the periodontal ligament fibers, and the zones of epithelium of the gingival sulcus (jargon sry... labels F-K). Extra detail of nerves and blood vessels not required. Not sure how others feel. Thank you for your efforts! Lesion (talk) 19:41, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Goran tek-en:Sorry I missed you post this draft. Thank you for giving this project your attention. Feedback:

  • Should more height on the diagram be used? The labels "K" and "J" appear more bunched up higher on the tooth than in the original diagram
  • Apart from that concern, the diagram looks good to me. Not sure how others feel @Ian Furst:, @Bouncingmolar:,@DRosenbach: (original image creator)

Yes, it looks new now for me. That looks fine now to me. Lovely. I'm sure everyone will agree it is better than what we had before and accurately shows the same information. Not sure if any others are going to comment, so maybe it is time to upload. Suggest replace original file as that way all the articles it is used in will be auto-updated with new image? If I might make a suggestion, perhaps a better approach would be to darken the image to give it a better contrast. I did some research into the various insignia used by the US Confederate Army and, by and large, the only consistent thing about the insignia was the lack of consistency. smile However, this image is an excellent example of this insignia in actual use on a white collar and it appear to be, overall, much darker. Niamh (talk) 20:31, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The color is much more appropriate now, better representing the gold thread. One question though: Why did you color the tips of the embroidered stars in black? --Patrick87 (talk) 18:30, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because the original file Commons: has black/dark tips. Should it be any other way just tell me. I have no knowledge of how it should look, I go by the sources I'm provided. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:57, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the original has black tips. It's an extracted photograph of a embroidery made of gold thread on top of a dark fabric. The dark tips are therefore only a result of inaccurate cropping (and the obvisous physical limitations of embroideries due to the thickness of the thread). I'd just extend the texture you used for the rest of the star up to the tips. --Patrick87 (talk) 19:11, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK then I misunderstood. So then I will make one like the yellow sign as I understand. --Goran tek-en (talk) 12:48, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, not yellow. I think actual Papua New Guinea stop sign is the red sign on the NG photo.  --Victortalk 14:53, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now I'm really confused here. The original request was for "Traditional red octagonal stopsign, reading WOK LONG ROT OL KAR MAS STOP SAPOS YU LUKIM RED PELA MAK" from Kintetsubuffalo.
Then The Haz linked to an image which had two signs, one with the text requested. Now Victor says it should be the stop sign without the text.
Please, I'm not a mind reader and don't know what to do now. You to have to decide on which and provide me with the needed information as asked for above. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:17, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I should clarify. I remembered the sign incorrectly. If you could make the yellow sign with the long text, that's what I had in mind. but if you want to make the red paddle-shaped stopsign, that's a bonus for Wikipedia. Even now, thanks everyone for your hard work.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:22, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request: I would like something similar to illustrate this fact:

The metatarsal bones behind the toes vary in relative length. In most feet, a line drawn through all the joints at the bases of the toes (metatarsal-phalangeal joints) is smooth. But in Morton's foot, the line has to bend sharply to go through the MTP joint at the base of the big toe.

A modification of the anatomical diagram on the page (above), or side-by-side comparison with the line drawn over it might work, but up to you.

A picture would really be worth a lot of words on this one, and the talk page has complaints that the article is too jargony and hard to understand. Thank you for your help.

The image is incorrect. Annex I to Protocol Additional I to the Geneva Conventions of 1949: Regulations concerning identification, as amended on 30 November 1993 (available here), article 16 (International distinctive sign), reads: "1. The international distinctive sign of civil defence provided for in Article 66, paragraph 4, of the Protocol is an equilateral blue triangle on an orange ground. [...] 2. It is recommended that: [...] c) no angle of the triangle touch the edge of the orange ground". Thus the background should be either a somewhat larger circle or just a larger, plain square. The1977 edition reads the same on this topic. Urhixidur (talk) 21:09, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The margin is not enough, in my opinion. At first glance, the triangle looks like it's touching. See the example provided in the source, where the margin is at least 20% of the triangle's side. Urhixidur (talk) 19:17, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
