Venice, the Bridge of Sighs cityscape painting by the English artist J.M.W. Turner .[ 1] Venice , then part of the Austrian Empire , looking towards the famous Bridge of Sighs .[ 2] Doge's Palace and the City Prison are either side of the bridge.
He displayed the painting at the Royal Academy 's Summer Exhibition in 1840. It appeared with lines from Lord Byron 's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage [ 3] [ 4] Turner Bequest of 1856 and is now in the collection of the Tate Britain .[ 5]
