Vani Prakashan is an Indian book publishing house founded in 1962 by Dr. Prem Chand Mahesh.[1][2][3] It is headquartered in New Delhi and is known for its contributions to Indian literature and publishing.[4]

History

[edit]

Vani Prakashan, established in 1962, has been publishing Hindi literature across multiple genres for over six decades.[5] It has produced more than 7000 titles in print, electronic, and audio formats.[5][6] Its distribution network extends to rural and urban areas across India, including online platforms.[5]

In 2021, Vani Prakashan acquired the publishing program of Bharatiya Jnanpith, a publishing house founded in 1944.[7] This acquisition positioned it as one of the largest publishers of Hindi literature in the country.[7] In order to diversify its list, Vani Prakashan acquired the Yatra Books to promote translations and English language publishing.[8]

The publishing house is associated with library systems in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East.[5] It has been recognized by organizations such as the National Library of Sweden, the Indo-Russian Literary Club, and the Polish government for its contributions to international literary collaboration.[9]

Awards

[edit]

Vani Prakashan honored by the National Library of Sweden, the Indo-Russian Literary Club and Russian Center of Art Culture, and the Polish government for promoting Indo-Swedish, Indo-Russian, and Indo-Polish literary collaborations.[10][11]

The Chairman and Managing Director of the publishing house, Arun Maheshwari received the Distinguished Publisher Award from the Federation of Indian Publishers in 2008 and the Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus) National Award in 2016 for Best Book on Cinema, presented by the former President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee.[12] It is also the first Indian publishing house to receive the Excellence Award from Oxford Business College, United Kingdom.[5] The CEO of the publishing house, Aditi Maheshwari is bestowed with Chevalier Des Arts et des Lettres for publishing in 2023.[13]
