Question from Johnsv29 (13:20, 25 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi I'm interested in editing an article entitled "Linkage disequilibrium". I have some experience in this field of genetics, and came on the article. I don't have problems with mistakes, just that I feel that the topic could be better explained. In fact there is a note saying "This article may be too technical for most readers to understand. Please help improve it to make it understandable to non-experts, without removing the technical details. (May 2023)"

Problem is that I would really prefer to start from scratch and re-write large slabs starting at the beginning. I haven't done any wikipedia editing, and don't undertand the ethics of this. How does one do this without causing offence to the original writer(s).

Thanks, John --Johnsv29 (talk) 13:20, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Johnsv29, no issue with causing offense to the original writers, Wikipedia's a collective project so improvements are welcome, but there are some other things you should be aware of. Firstly make sure it's written in Wikipedia's enclopedic style/tone (not like an essay with a particular argument). If you want some more guidance on this, look at some other articles on similar topics. More popular articles will give you a better sense of this, since they will be more heavily edited.
Secondly, make sure you have references. If you delete paragraphs that have references and replace them with paragraphs that don't have references, your edit will likely be reverted. If you substantially change a paragraph without references, I would suggest adding some. If you do those two things, your edits probably won't be reverted, but if they are, you can discuss on the talk page. Zoozaz1 (talk) 20:45, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've made changes to the "linkage disequilibrium" page. I hope they will be in the spirit of what's expected on wikipedia, but t's a fairly specialised topic so I assume there won't be many who will look at it. Johnsv29 (talk) 00:37, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I am Melissa and I am needing some guidance/ADVICE on what to do next here --Missmarie87$ (talk) 02:30, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Missmarie87$, there are plenty of ways to contribute to Wikipedia, you can look through Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia to find them, most of them involve editing and improving articles. Zoozaz1 (talk) 03:59, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Historaj (11:13, 25 January 2025)

[edit]

How can I move my draft with a new name before waiting for the 'move page' option? --Historaj (talk) 11:13, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Historaj, I'm not sure what you mean by this question, but if you want to rename your draft, you can use the move button under the page menu on the draft. Once approved by the reviewer, the draft will become an article and "Draft" will be removed from its name. Zoozaz1 (talk) 12:18, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PM09121972 (01:04, 27 January 2025)

[edit]

Shakespeare Coaches run a daily transfer between London Paddington and Stratford as well as local Cotswolds Tours from Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh. Each time I have posted this it get removed???? --PM09121972 (talk) 01:04, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

PM09121972, it seems to be because you are adding external links. Instead of adding an external link, you should add the link as part of a reference at the end of the sentence. Zoozaz1 (talk) 20:44, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Informer1101 on Boise, Idaho (05:09, 2 February 2025)

[edit]

Can you please help me update the info for my city like the city of Boise has?

I’m simply trying to add Mayor Trevor Schiefelbein listed as mayor for the city of Crouch Idaho.

Thank you! --Informer1101 (talk) 05:09, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Informer1101, it seems he listed listed as the mayor in the article already, in the infobox. Zoozaz1 (talk) 13:41, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
