Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:Vinesauce logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Vinesauce logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:45, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Vinesauce logo.jpg

You sent me the following email, which I am pasting in here per your permission above:

Hello. Before you read any further, do not presume that I am here to complain about the judgement you made on an article I wrote. I agree with it.
I have a couple questions about improving my article. I felt the best place to get answers would be from the type of people making these judgments.
Do you feel as if biased references have a neutral or negative effect on the article's integrity? In other words, should I omit references that aren't third-party references altogether?
If my article has been declined twice based on a lack of notability, are the chances of it being approved in the future harmed even if improvements are made to the reference section?
end email

I will reply shortly. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:39, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to the pasted-in email above
I assume you are referring to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Vinesauce.
Biased references can and in some cases should be used to cite "bare facts" that are not related to any claims of notability and which are not otherwise likely to be contested. For example, it's usually okay to use a biased source for a person's birthday, but not on article about supercentenarians.
If an article is declined based on notability, it is because the draft does not give enough evidence that the topic meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
In most cases, this is because the topic itself does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. In these cases, it's best to just give up.
In a few cases, it just means that the person writing the draft didn't find the sources that demonstrate that the topic is notable AND the reviewer did not immediately recognize the topic as being notable. A common example is an athlete who plays in a fully-professional sports league but whose draft article doesn't say so AND whose draft article doesn't otherwise demonstrate that the person is notable AND whose reviewer isn't familiar with the athlete or the team he plays on.
In any case, it is best to focus on independent, reliable-source references which demonstrate that the topic meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. If you can't find such references, or if in your estimation they only "barely" demonstrate that the topic is notable, it may be that the topic is not notable enough to qualify for an article in Wikipedia.
As for using references which are not suitable for demonstrating a topic's notability, it's best to keep these to a minimum until it's obvious that the topic is not meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines but that it clearly meets them. See WP:BOMBARD for more on this topic.

Hello Zjgallant. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Vinesauce".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Vinesauce}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 23:18, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
