Can I have some help please

[edit]

Alright me old mucker :)

I proposed an AFD nomination on Death and state funeral of George H.W. Bush but it didn't format the same way ur nomination of Gorbachev did, or create a page where people can vote like yours. Please can u tell me how to fix it? Stephanie921 (talk) 20:51, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Stephanie921 Sure, what I did is followed the instructions at WP:AFDHOWTO, which will do a deletion nomination (I think what happened to the George Bush article is a deletion proposal instead of a nomination). Basically, by adding "{{subst:afd1}}" at the top of the article and saving, it'll create a link where it says "deletion discussion page" that will allow you to nominate the article, open the discussion, and add your reason into it. The instructions are a bit complex, but not too hard to follow. Hope this helps! - Willsteve2000 (talk) 21:13, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Tyvm - did I do it right? I can't tell. It has the same page formatting but the link on the template is clickable but red. And it's got code at bottom Stephanie921 (talk) 21:27, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Stephanie921 Yes, that's correct. You'd have to click on the red link to create the discussion page (step II of WP:AFDHOWTO).
Also, as mentioned by 331dot in the revision history for the page, a merge proposal might be better than a deletion nomination. When I did the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Death of Mikhail Gorbachev nomination, there wasn't (and still really isn't) any additional content on the article other than what was written on the main Mikhail Gorbachev article, whereas the Bush article has a fair amount of substantive content on it that would have to be merged if the article is removed, although I feel like the Bush article has reached a point where there's enough information to warrant a separate article on his death/funeral. I'd recommend instead doing deletion proposals on articles without a significant amount of information where it would be more suitable to merge articles, such as Death and state funeral of Heydar Aliyev and Death and funeral of Donald Dewar. Willsteve2000 (talk) 21:37, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, ty. Personally I think the content on the Bush funeral is substantive enough to warrant an entire article. I meant anything that can be in the article should ideally go in the main one, although I'm not arguing for a merge. I just think an entire article is repetitive and not notable. Feel free to suggest thoughts on page if u disagree Stephanie921 (talk) 21:49, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it now btw!! Tysm :D Feel free to discuss on page Stephanie921 (talk) 23:00, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! I'm currently leaning towards keep on that particular article, just because of how substantive the article is, but will comment if I have anything to add. - Willsteve2000 (talk) 23:19, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome :D I'm extremely proud of myself and I couldn't have done it without you Stephanie921 (talk) 23:27, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

please withdraw nomination

Death of Mikhail Gorbachev deletion 2A00:1FA0:46C9:1807:0:6B:63FD:5F01 (talk) 09:35, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@2A00:1FA0:46C9:1807:0:6B:63FD:5F01 Why? Is there a specific reason? If so, I'd recommend adding it to your response to the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Death of Mikhail Gorbachev, as it currently has WP:NOREASON. Either way, I am unable to withdraw the nomination as doing so requires unanimous keep support and no ongoing discussions (see WP:CLOSEAFD). Willsteve2000 (talk) 15:24, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Since 1789, many full-term representatives weren't sworn in, the day their terms began

[edit]

Howdy. Concerning the notes, just wanted to point out. Not every post-20th amendment Congress began on January 3. But we still use January 3, as the starting date for terms. After all, it would kinda look strange showing (for example) that Pelosi ceased to be a representative on January 3, 2023 & then became a representative 'again' on January 7, 2023. GoodDay (talk) 07:52, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@GoodDay Hello there! While I agree that January 3rd should remain the starting date listed for their terms due to the 20th Amendment, I believe it would be appropriate to add a note for the new members of the House in this 118th Congress to note that they were sworn in at a later date. I am not suggesting or advocating for changing the starting date, or changing anything on the articles for re-elected members who have served in previous sessions of Congress, but rather just a small note on the articles of the new house members to indicate that the date they were first sworn in is different to the date they started the position, as they were still technically considered members-elect until they were sworn in. While including such a note has not not been done for members of other sessions of Congress, this is also the first post-20th Amendment Congress in which the election of a Speaker delayed the swearing in of new members. - Willsteve2000 (talk) 08:12, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just pointing out, starting dates/swearing in date being different is very common in the history of the US House & Senate, since 1789. Indeed before the 20th amendment, Congressional (House & Senate) terms began on March 4, but members didn't get sworn in until nine months later, in December.
