Whitaker, W

[edit]

My bad. The guy is actually my great, great, etc. grandfather so with the COI maybe I should have let somebody else do it. Please improve it with whatever you can, and I'd be willing to team up on any local stuff. Are you local? I live at the mouth of the Gandy bridge but I used to be on Davis Islands (in the Palace of Florence pictured on that page). I did try to avoid misrepresenting any info so I think it might slide by. Haslan's is one of my favorite places in St. Pete and I try to stop in every time I pass it. Indeed, one of the palm books Ive been using for a reference was bought at Haslan's.Mmcknight4 (talk) 19:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will look around. When I searched http://purl.fcla.edu/usf/dc/m1.search some hits came up but I haven't found a pic yet. SOme are journals that we need to be thumbed (clicked) through, and as I said, I will look around. That database seems to have some decent content regarding the state's history if you haven't seen it yet.Mmcknight4 (talk) 20:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The database link above brings up the search page with the Manatee Library material already selected from the drop down menu. Either select all libraries are the one that sounds like it might contain what you are looking for.Mmcknight4 (talk) 20:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good news! If you search that database and find Journal: Tampa Bay History 20/2 (Fall/Winter 1998), there are a couple of ok pics of Gandy therein. Maybe more in the database but I haven;'t checked. I'd guess there is no copyright, having expired, but I know little about those issues.Mmcknight4 (talk) 20:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Each of those things is in some separate collection so I think you have to find which collection they are in but when I contacted one group they said they had no problem at all with the reuse saying simply (by phone) "Just credit us". I couldn't make it translate when I was trying to decide on a tag to use so I haven't bothered yet but my limited experience is that most institutions of this sort are not fierce guards of the material they archive. This guy rbernard@lib.usf.edu was very helpful if you feel like pursuing it (if for no other reason than Gandy pictures do seem hard to come by).Mmcknight4 (talk) 21:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
