Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, WillGDell, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Wendy Irving, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Thank you so much. I totally understand.
Are you able to review and proofread it for me so the notice of conflict can be removed?
Thanks again,

Removal of a COI maintenance tag should take place on the article's talk page. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 17:39, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kj cheetham
i can confirm my user account is not used by multiple people and there is no compensation involved. I am also not representing a company.
i am hoping you can review the edits and confirm if the conflict notice can be removed.
thanks again and I am so excited to be part of the wiki community!

If, as mentioned in one of the edit summaries, you are the son of Wendy Irving, that represents a conflict of interest that you should declare on your user page, which doesn't exist yet. The conflict we are talking about is between your consideration for your parent and your responsibility as a Wikipedia editor to be neutral. Once you've made your disclosure, you may ask at Talk:Wendy Irving whether the maintenance tag can be removed.
In general, we ask that COI editors use edit requests or the Edit Request Wizard to ask that changes be made rather than edit the page directly. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 18:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Jm, I’ve disclosed on my user page and will ask for the notice removal on the Wendy Talk page.
quick question, do I need to use the edit request if I am just adding pictures and not modifying txt? Or can these types of updates be published directly?
WillGDell (talk) 18:35, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Will. We recommend use of edit requests for any substantive changes, including adding pictures. I would hesitate to edit the article directly except to revert obvious vandalism or fix typos. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:33, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Firefangledfeathers, I’ll make sure to leverage edit requests moving forward :)

Information icon Hi WillGDell! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 16:16, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, WillGDell. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Wendy Dell, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. This is just standard text with some extra information that might be helpful to you. I noticed your declaration on your user page, thank you for that! Kj cheetham (talk) 10:52, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
