Speedy deletion nomination of Dolomedes albineus
[edit]Hello Wikiombudsman,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Dolomedes albineus for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. MusaTalk 02:59, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Quick note on your username
[edit]Hi Wikiombudsman, I just wanted to pass on a couple of pieces of information while I'm here. First of all, I declined the speedy-deletion nomination mentioned above on this page for what are probably obvious reasons. Thank you for your recent page creations on spiders!
Secondly, it seems that no one has said anything yet, but we do have a username policy that does not allow usernames that might mislead or confuse others, including names that sound like positions of authority. "Wikiombudsman" sounds an awful lot like an official position. You can simply create a new account, but since you already have quite a few good edits and might not want to lose them, you can also look here for instructions on how to request a change of username. If you have any questions you can leave me a message or reply here. Thanks! Opabinia regalis (talk) 04:51, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Okay. Can I change my name to UnofficialWikiOmbudsman then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiombudsman (talk • contribs)
- Yes, though if I were going to suggest a name I'd go with something a little less impersonal-sounding - even things that are OK policy-wise can sound a bit strange on a talk page :) Name changes to names not already claimed should be requested here.
- BTW, when you post on a talk page you should end your post with four tildes (~~~~), which will be automatically substituted with your signature. Opabinia regalis (talk) 08:24, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi again. I noticed this response to your username change request - that makes three people who think that your new username is still on the borderline and that you should choose something else. Comments like this aren't helping to make the case for it.
- This wasn't an urgent matter when it looked like you were just creating some stubs, but you've also been cleanup-tagging articles and proposing them for deletion. Other editors working on those articles need to know who they're interacting with, and your username gives them the wrong impression. You need to change your username to something acceptable before doing any more maintenance work. I'm sorry this wasn't noticed earlier, but please note that this account could be blocked from editing altogether for violating the username policy if the problem isn't fixed. Thanks. Opabinia regalis (talk) 21:10, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not really happy with "Unofficial..." either, but I suppose that's OK. Please change your name quickly. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 16:17, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

The article Ferruccio Ferrazzi has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. | Nayptatalk opened his mouth at 05:23, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined
[edit]Sorry if I sound like I'm picking on you, but this speedy tag does not meet the A7 criteria, as it makes credible claims of significance. Speedy criteria are intentionally very narrow. You should really concentrate on getting more experience before doing this kind of work. There is a good summary of common deletion errors here if you want to read it. Opabinia regalis (talk) 21:22, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
- What is the claim of significance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiombudsman (talk • contribs)
- Being president of a national organization and receiving a national award are more than enough to meet the minimal criteria defined by A7. Even if the nation is Luxembourg. Opabinia regalis (talk) 07:45, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Why is Jonah Bryson directed to The Fight For Bala? Can this please be undone? It makes no sense to link a person to a film, and it does not let people learn about the individual. MrBean65 (talk) 01:32, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- The article on the person didn't say anything that isn't said in the film. And the person's only claim to notability is the film. So they don't have independent notability. By redirecting readers can still find information on them until such time as they establish notability apart from the film project. Wikiombudsman (talk) 01:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Reminder
[edit]Did you see this message?
You've continued to add cleanup tags, question other users' edits, and tag articles for deletion. Those are all good things, but you cannot continue to do them with a misleading username. Your next edit should be to post a new username in your CHU request or you may be blocked from editing. Thanks. Opabinia regalis (talk) 07:45, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- I requested a username change a day or two ago. Wikiombudsman (talk) 11:20, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, and you were asked to choose something else. There is consensus here that "unofficial" doesn't fix the issue. This is not going to work. Please choose a username that has nothing to do with ombudspeople and request it at CHU ASAP. Opabinia regalis (talk) 18:09, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- What's wrong with "UnauthorizedWikiOmbudsman" which I requested yesterday? Wikiombudsman (talk) 18:13, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- I concur with Opabinia regalis. It still implies that somehow you are connected to the Ombudsman commission. Wikimedia Foundation staff sometimes maintain separate accounts, one for actions they are taking in their "official" capacity and one for actions that are not "official", or "authorized" by the WMF. "UnauthorizedWikiOmbudsman" might confuse other users into believing the same. Why not choose a username without "Ombudsman" in it? You seem to be interested in clothing, so maybe you could rename yourself User:Vestitus (that's Latin for clothing). That's just a suggestion, of course you are free to think of other appropriate names.
- What's wrong with "UnauthorizedWikiOmbudsman" which I requested yesterday? Wikiombudsman (talk) 18:13, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

- Okay, thanks. How about "NotaWikiOmbudsman"? Wikiombudsman (talk) 18:59, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- It would be best to drop the ombudsman thing. Opabinia regalis (talk) 19:02, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Altamel for the ping; I thought I had posted the comment below already, but I seem to have run into that session data loss problem that's been going around.
- Wikiombudsman: K6ka, who is a global renamer, replied to your request with the comment that "UnofficialWikiOmbudsman" was still too close for their taste, and "UnauthorizedWikiOmbudsman" does not resolve that concern. In case you didn't see K6ka's link, the m:Ombudsman Commission is a group that oversees privacy policy matters for the Wikimedia Foundation, which implies a very high level of trust and is important not to confuse people about. (I did initially think "Unofficial" was ok, if not a good idea, but the people who work with renames of existing contributors are often more stringent than admins deciding whether to block a new account.)
- Also, I suggest creating a new CHU request to be sure it doesn't get overlooked in the queue. Opabinia regalis (talk) 19:00, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. How about "NotaWikiOmbudsman"? Wikiombudsman (talk) 18:59, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

- I processed a rename to "NotAnOmbudsman" (since it was better than "Wikiombudsman") but if someone still doesn't like the "Ombudsman" in there, please do feel free to file an WP:RFC/N for wider comment in which case @NotAnOmbudsman: you may still need to choose a different name without the word "ombudsman". –xenotalk 17:05, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Notability footballers
[edit]Hi, I saw that you with this diff asked if Fabio Ceschi was fully professional because he playes in his league. That is not true. According to WP:NFOOTBALL (notability for footballers) they have to have played in a fully proffessional league seen in the list at WP:FPL. The league in San Marino is no fully professional so the player is not notable. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me at my talkpage. Qed237 (talk) 12:35, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

re:
- in the Aftimus article I originally wrote "neo-mauresque" i don't remember ever writing "Arabo-mauresque" it must be some later edit. I will change it back tomorrow.
- Would it be okay to use Moorish Revival? I think it is more commonly understood and more widely used although neo-mauresque might be more uniquely Lebanese as Francophone terminology. NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 05:15, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- I just checked your reply :) that's exactly what I did! You are totally right, the term is not very common outside the Francosphere. It also appears that "Arabo-Mauresque" is my doing after all :S -Elias Z 10:47, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- I tend not to use diacritics unless the word in question is in a foreign language and cannot be written otherwise. This is not the case for Lebanese Arabic. The general rule is to follow the way the word is written in the cited sources. To ensure that an article title is read correctly it is best to use IPA templates. Rf: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation and Help:IPA for Arabic. If you are referring to the Baadarane article, I'd lose the circumflex but it's not a big deal as I have noticed that you have redirected pages with alternate spelling and without the diacritic to the article.
- There certainly seem to be a lot of variants on spellings which I guess makes sense given the various languages in use and issues of transliteration.. I try to redirect so subjects can be found and duplicates are not created. :) I favor diacritics if they provide info on the proper pronunciation even if the average reader may not find them useful. But in the Lebanese context it's hard for me to tell which language is the one of origin or primary usage. Is it usually Arabic? SO diacritics would be appropriate for readers of Arabic in English translation?
- Diacritics DO make pronounciation easier for both English and Arabic speakers. For the Lebanese and Arab readers, the inclusion of the foreign language equivalent in the artcile (in our case arabic) is always favorable and is recommended as per the Lead section manual of style. -Elias Z 10:47, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- I will try to look into the Sehnaoui article tomorrow. The only way to establish a person's notability is through citing a good number of fairly reliable sources but I'm sure you know that already. There was a challenge during one Wikipedia MENA conference to start articles for obscure people or subjects and I managed to bring back Myriam Klink after many deletions when started by other users. Another factor is the user's credibility, keep a good record with consistent editing and I believe any article you start will have better chances to remain.
- No rush. Seems an interesting guy anyway. I read the deletion discussion. I think he's notable.
I am so so so glad to have someone to talk to here. It's been sooooo long! Enjoy editing and please come back to me for any inquiry. When did you start editing? Did you used to edit anonymously ? GN_Elias Z 21:27, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello, NotAnOmbudsman,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Dakhira should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dakhira .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Re Al Dakhira
[edit]No apologies necessary at all, you clearly created the article(s) in good faith. It would be a good idea, however, to keep in mind the distinctions between a national park and a settlement. I am unsure on the notability criteria for national parks, but I think that they probably would require more references than a settlement in order to establish their notability. I could be wrong about this. At any rate, I'm not sure how many national park articles you created, but please do aptly rename them all to "X National Park" instead of just "X". I'm going to rename Umm Tais since the name refers exclusively to a national park. I will also add some content to Ras Abrouq since it is an important geographical and historical site. Thanks for your contributions, nonetheless. I'd be glad to oblige any content-related questions or further assistance should you require it. Elspamo4 (talk) 18:17, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- National parks here in the U.S. are quite different from those called national parks in the Middle East, where the natural reserves are also used for natural areas that are often inhabited. So I am hesitant to put "..National Park" in the title unless it is a clear and official designation. As best I can tell these area are "natural reserves", but it's not clear to me exactly what being called a natural reserve designates or what geographic boundaries are included. Are the settlements part of the reserves? NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 18:26, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
- Most national parks in the Middle East (or Qatar, at least) are named after the settlements in which they are located. So yes, quite different from the US. The national parks aren't actually part of the settlements or vice versa. That wouldn't be possible. Put simply, national parks are protected areas with no human population. Settlements are the exact opposite. Elspamo4 (talk) 18:50, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for finishing the list of protected areas in Qatar. I've renamed Umm Tais to Umm Tais National Park, fyi. Elspamo4 (talk) 20:31, 7 July 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Tarhal
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Tarhal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Al Rashidiya (Lebanon)
[edit]Hello NotAnOmbudsman,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Al Rashidiya (Lebanon) for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, [[{{{article}}}]].
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. RobertsBiology (talk) 18:14, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I redirected to the existing article and merged some content. Take care. NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 18:22, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Robert Eyles Egerton, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.wdl.org/en/item/11437/.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

- Hello COrenSearchBot. I believe the description is from the Library of Congress who uploaded the photo to Wikipedia Commons with that text? And I think that's where the World Digital Library got its info? I have removed the bulk of the text from the article out of caution. If the description is not public domain it should be removed from Wikipedia Commons as well.. but this is a series of public domain photos from the Library of Congress and I think the descriptions are public as well. Photo cropping
[edit]Shagai Plateau, also referred to as Shagai Heights is an area of flat lands along the Khyber Pass. Fort Al Creator was nearby. The ascent to the Shagai Plateau begins near the entrance to the Khyber Pass from the southeast at Peshawar in what is now Pakistan. It was the site of a British encampment during the Second Anglo-Afghan War
Teahouse stuff
[edit]Hi there - just a heads up that I have moved your recent question at the Teahouse from the bottom of the page to the top. Most talk pages require that new discussions be placed at the bottom of the page. At the Teahouse, however, new questions are placed at the top to maximize visibility. On another sidenote, your question regarding photo cropping was answered as you typed your new question :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:22, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Greetings, I see we both were working on these articles at the same time, resulting in a duplicate. You appear to be more familiar with the subject matter; which title would be recommended? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:42, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Jo-Jo Eumerus. I think there is a way to determine which name is more widely held and established (for example via Google search results) but I am not in the know for how to get those results. As best I can tell Arailer seems to be at least as widely used and established so I will merge and redirect as best I can. Thanks for the note. Enjoy your weekend. A warning about breaking redirects.
[edit]Hello! You recently converted the redirect Theraphosidae, that has for long been a redirect to the substantially developed article Tarantula, into a minute stub. I have reverted this edit, and ask that you reconsider making similar changes: over 100 articles link to Theraphosidae, and breaking the redirect means viewers are presented with a meager stub rather than a quality article. The alternate meanings of "Tarantula" are addressed in Tarantula. Please feel free to propose redirects beforehand on the relevant article talk page(s), and/or WikiProject Spiders. All the best, --Animalparty! (talk) 03:03, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Protected areas of Laos
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Protected areas of Laos requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
A friendly reminder to use Taxoboxes, categories, and stubs
[edit]Hello! Thanks for your contributions. You seem to have a variety of interests. I'd just like to again remind you to always include a {{taxobox}} in every article you create on a species, genus, family, etc. A couple of categories, and the most relevant {{stub}} tag (see e.g. Category:Plant stubs) would be helpful as well. Keeping articles sorted and organized by categories helps them be more easily read by viewers and improved by other editors. A small but important step: each time you create an article without these, it just adds more busy work for reviewers. Please let me know on my Talk page if you have any questions about taxoboxes, categories, stubs, or anything! Cheers, --Animalparty! (talk) 01:57, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tips. What's the difference between a tribe and a genus? Should Posoquerieae link to Posoqueria? NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 02:02, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- A tribe is a rank above genus but below family or subfamily. A tribe may contain one or many genera, but a genus will not contain any tribes. A taxobox is the best way to link the article to higher ranks (tribe, family, order, class, etc.), but not all ranks need inclusion, usually only main ranks; i.e. a taxobox for an animal species generally has genus, family, order, class, phylum, & kingdom, but for the sake of brevity usually omits intermediate ranks such as subclass, infraorder, subtribe, etc. unless they are particularly well-known groups. A genus taxobox however might include lesser ranks to provide context (e.g. subtribe or tribe: compare the taxoboxes of Pentas and Pentas lanceolata). Posoquerieae is apparently a tribe two genera: Posoqueria and Molopanthera, and so should probably get its own article (similar to the related tribe Alberteae). However, if Posoquerieae was a monotypic tribe (only contained Posoqueria), then Posoquerieae would be a redirect to the genus rather than a separate article (see WP:MONOTYPICFLORA and WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA). Note, some editors like to use the {{automatic taxobox}} template rather than the default, but I prefer not to. --Animalparty! (talk) 05:00, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Also, if something exists on Wikispecies can it be copied over (with attribution in edit summary)? I realize some of the formatting and such is different but it is a mirror project is it not? NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 02:43, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Can you give more clarification? What would you be copying? Simple lists usually don't require attribution, as data is not subject to copyright. --Animalparty! (talk) 05:00, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the information! I saw that some species are already on Wikispecies. The information for the one I saw was pretty bare and mostly taxonomic, but it seems like it's better than nothing.. NotAnOmbudsman (talk) 05:04, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

The article Ej Jouâr has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not a populated place, legally-recognized or otherwise. GEOnet has it as "scrubland" or alternately "area". Should never have been created in the first place.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 23:26, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Multiple issues: The notability of the site or its founder has not been demonstrated (Abe Olandres redirects here); tone may be a bit promotional; almost all sources are primary sources citing itself, if there are any sources to begin with.
