sarwari qadri

[edit]

i dont understand really what is gmrdsardar intention. firstly they deleted the old article without any users permission and trying to show others are wrong. but in my opinion, if they think they are true they should create a separate article with proofs of supporting documents instaed they dont have any rights to delete others article without any permission and discussions as per wikipedia policy. i also want to remind gmrdsardar that, just by creating two pages of html websites will not show them the right cause. hope i haven't shown any conflict of personnel interest just want to justify to someone that dont underestimate others.

and requesting wiki team to approve the old article which was in the name of sarwari qadri.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Shajahanwiki125 (talkcontribs)

DellaTech

[edit]

Regarding the recent deletion tag placed on the article DellaTech, I believe this should not be deleted, as it is currently useful to a number of customers, locals, and residents across the UK. It contains information about a vital company (such as Geek Squad) that would be of interest to many. The company is going to be expanding across Europe in the near future, and as such, requires information such as source, location and history which is something irrelevant to put on the website. Please consider your choice. Thank you. Jamie —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solidsnake1211 (talkcontribs) 15:48, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contribution, but the article's been nominated for deletion on the grounds of WP:Notability. There's zero assertion of notability in the article. Please see also WP:ITSUSEFUL, and WP:Conflict of interest: if your company is notable, then please wait for someone else to write about it. As I wrote on your talk page, please don't remove the speedy tag yourself: if it's been nominated in error, then an admin will remove it. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 17:59, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dave's One Night Stand

[edit]

Hi Jim,

I received your note about speedy deletition of the Dave's One Night Stand page I recently created.

Could you please advise how I can avoid this happening? I have seen several articles about TV shows where the format is not too disimilar. I understand this could be preceived as an advert so any advice greatly appreciated

Thanks

Westerveld Westerveld (talk) 16:02, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Westerveld, WP:SPAM is a good place to start. If you're in doubt, you could always create a draft version in a userspace draft, and then ask some experienced editors to take a look at it before you copy it into the main article space. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 22:40, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your recent report to WP:UAA, please see this comment from the user; I think their response should satisfy any concerns you might have with the potentially offensive meaning of "long dong". GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 16:15, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it's true. :-) Sorry for the misunderstanding. Top Jim (talk) 22:39, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, easy mistake to make (I understood your concern though you didn't clarify the report, after all). For ambiguous names like this which might be an obscenity but could be something else though, it's usually best to discuss it with the user first and take it to WP:RFCN if they ignore your message or decline to explain. The easiest wayt to do that is with {{uw-username}}. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 22:45, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, will do next time, thanks. Top Jim (talk) 22:47, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion

[edit]

I have a question: I put up an aritcle about Peter Bruner, who was a slave born in Kentucky in 1845. In the article, I talked about his life and all the experiences he went through as a slave, later as a soldier, and finally as a free man who built a wonderful life for himself and family, despite all odds being against him. Then I got a message saying it was to be speedily deleted becuase the subject of the article (Peter Bruner) was not historically significant. My question is...why? Lindsay Lohan has a multiple paged article, but the past slaves of our country are not considered "historically significant" enough to simply have a Wikipedia article written about them? I am confused by your reasoning and if you could enlighten me, I would much appreciate it.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aclymer1339 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Take a look at WP:GNG for an indication of criteria which articles need to meet to be considered notable enough for inclusion. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 14:23, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are tons of articles on Wikipedia that ought to a lot bigger than the Lindsey Lohan one. Take a look at Category:Articles to be expanded and Category:American slaves, and please dive in and help. If you know a lot about a certain subject, then please join up with one of the many Wikipedia:Wikiprojects, all of which are very keen to get your help expanding their articles. Please don't take it personally that the subject of the article you created wasn't judged to be notable enough: it's not a reflection on you or your editing abilities. What's wrong is that despite my warning you four times not to remove the speedy template from the article you created, you removed it a fifth time with this edit. Then you pasted your unreferenced promotional screed over a perfectly good article with this edit. If you don't stop vandalizing pages, you're going to get blocked from editing by an admin. The article SUMObot has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced stub with very little context.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 05:44, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have spent part of this afternoon, when I'm supposed to be working, looking for other articles. Looks like the satellite images were taken from an individual project where a journalist or researcher poured over Google Earth images to find images of the elites' residences and reeducation camps, prison camps, etc. The problem is that so little is known about the DPRK that images and explanations are hard to come by. Will keep looking. Thanks. Saebvn (talk) 20:08, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dialog Axiata

Apologize if the content sounds as if it's advertising motivated. However it's not. Fasthosts page

[edit]

Hi Top Jim,

My first wiki entry has been flagged up due to Conflict of Interest. I feel the article has been written by a neutral point of view after reviewing other wikipedia pages such as United Internet, 1and1 and heart internet. Please let me know what we specific elements of the article you feel are in breach of wikipedioa terms and I will correct those.

All the best, --Fhsupport (talk) 13:44, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions, but I would strongly recommend that you not edit an article about your company: please see WP:COI. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 13:45, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Top Jim, The page was not created for any promotional purposes, solely to give a neutral viewpoint of one of the UK's web hosting companies. Do you know if wikipedia will allow this page to stay online?

Thanks --Fhsupport (talk) 14:01, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I won't be nominating it for deletion, as there's nothing promotional about it. There was an AFD discussion on this article before at WP:Articles for deletion/Fasthosts, but that was 4 years ago, and in my opinion there wasn't a strong case for deleting it even then. Another editor might disagree though - who knows. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 14:06, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher Richard Barker & Nick Drake

[edit]

Dear Top Jim,

The creation of a page for the author CRB is justified and the links verify the claims made therein. Indeed, a downloadable PDF of the first part of Barker's collection 'Tenebrous Tales' proves that it includes a 50pp novella based upon the life and death of Nick Drake. Furthermore, I can furnish you with emails between the author and Drake's former manager Joe Boyd which further prove the existence of the book and tale.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any further clarification. This is the first article I have created and I studied other Wikipedia articles and tutorials very carefully before creating it. Thanks in advance for any tips or pointers you can supply.

(Curemaniac (talk) 18:07, 14 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Hello Curemaniac, and thanks for your contribution. The article doesn't seem to assert notability per WP:CREATIVE, WP:BIO or WP:GNG. Am I missing something? If there is more to tell about the man, then please let me know and I'd be happy to help you with adding references etc. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 19:55, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Top Jim:

The author published & edited two award-nominated collections by the highly notable Reggie Oliver, and reviews for his own short stories have been very praiseworthy (citations from his Wikipedia peers can be obtained, but probably not until after the weekend). His fictionalization of Nick Drake is the first of its kind and has been especially lauded and involved consultation with the legendary music producer Joe Boyd. The BBC's Head of Radio Drama was planning to produce a dramatization of one of Barker's stories when an unexpected shake-up led to the dropping of the project at the last moment. Barker has also completed a mainstream work of Dystopian fiction which is about to be placed with a high profile London publishing house. He is also working-up the abandoned radio-play into a screenplay. Hope this helps. PS. Several inferior authors and publishers have Wikipedia entries. Please could you what the precise criteria for inclusion is? Thanks in advance! (Curemaniac (talk) 20:11, 14 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

As noted above, the relevant guidelines can be found at WP:CREATIVE, WP:BIO or WP:GNG, but they're not precise. By which high profile London publishing house is his work about to be published? Have you got references supporting that? Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 20:17, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is unprofessional to announce the name of the publisher until contracts have been signed; however, there is no reference to this novel in the Wiki entry! In the meantime, I have added inline citations to the article which should go some way to allaying your fears that this is a valid article. All of the internal references - to books published by the author and playwright Reggie Oliver, to proof that Barker has authored numerous stories as well as a collection of his work - validates the claims made in the article. Indeed, many other lesser authors have been claiming that some vague, unnamed publisher is about to publish their next book for years, but nothing ever materialises. No such claims are made in this article. As soon as a new project has been commissioned or completed, only then will the article make reference to it. Hope this helps you lift the warnings on the article but please feel free to contact me direct and I can copy you (for examples) between the author and Joe Boyd proving (for example) the claims made about the Nick Drake tale. Thanks! (Curemaniac (talk) 21:02, 14 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Are you Christopher Richard Barker? You seem to have unreleased information on his career: if you are connected with him then please have a read of WP:Conflict of interest and edit with caution to ensure a WP:Neutral point of view. I'm afraid nothing you've mentioned so far appears to support notability for Barker per the notability criteria I mentioned above, so I'm going to propose it for deletion. If you can supply further information supporting the article's suitability for inclusion then the waiting period should give you time enough to add it. Regarding other Wikipedia articles on authors whom you regard as lesser or inferior, please have a read of WP:OTHERSTUFF. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 21:37, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not Barker. Who are you in 'real' life?

If you propose to delete this article then presumably you will be equally interested in deleting the dozens / hundreds of other articles by equally obscure or less known individuals that I have chanced across?

I am sorry, but this seems to be quite a malicious proposal of yours. Barker was instrumental in helping to launch the literary career of Reggie Oliver; he was worked with many well-known third parties; and his debut collection has received excellent reviews. All of this has been proven by valid citations. It would appear to border on victimization.

Please could you advise who I should complain to? I would like to escalate this to a higher level in addition to providing you with a long list of less worthy Wiki articles.

(Curemaniac (talk) 21:50, 14 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

You can start by making your case for why the article shouldn't be deleted at the AFD discussion, as I've noted on your talk page. You are also most welcome to point out articles to me that don't meet Wikipedia criteria for inclusion: I spend a lot of time clearing them out. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 21:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Re: George Hopkins

[edit]

Thank you for all your editing! I am new. How do I address the "citations for verification"/ I thought the links and references where okay? I also sent photos, magazine covers and articles to photosubmission@wikimedia.org?! I truly appreciate your help. Randys1girl Randys1girl (talk) 21:56, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thanks for the article. The problem at the moment is that it says a great deal about Mr. Hopkins, but most of this is uncited. I'd recommend you start by having a read of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, to get to know how best to write a biography article. There doesn't seem to be anything contentious in there, but there's a lot about his achievements that for Wikipedia:Verifiability do need some cites. I'll try to look online, and maybe you could find some press clippings online. One last thing: since you are connected with him by family, it's important that you read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and make sure that you're careful to write as objectively as possible about him. That's not always easy, but it can be done. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 08:07, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My father and I have been estranged for years and just got back in touch. All this is from verifiable articles, books or people who worked with him. I did send articles and photos of him with William Morris agency on them to the photo submission email. There is nothing online besides what I have noted. I am collecting articles and more photos to submit further evidence of his accomplishments. I promise you it is all true and much more. Just want to make sure I have the documentation before submitting the rest. Again, thank you, really appreciated. Is there some way to have someone else who knows Wikipedia rules and guidelines write articles? My facebook page has a lot of photos of him from work. I am doing my best to create a chronology of his work and document it. Randys1girl (talk) 08:25, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What specific sort of help are you looking for? I'm quite happy to help you with the references if you like. You say you sent photos to Wikipedia:Contact us/Photo submission: have you had a response yet? If the photos are already now uploaded, and any unanswered questions over ownership and copyright etc. have been sorted out, then I can help you get the photos into the article. Top Jim (talk) 08:34, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No response yet, and I am waiting for more photos and articles to support that I should have very soon. I wrote in the email that I sent the photos to the declaration of consent, I see that I need to send that to a different email and will do that this morning.Randys1girl (talk) 15:23, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's needed is coverage of the group from WP:Reliable, independent, WP:Secondary, WP:Reliable sources. If you can find some of those, I'd be happy to help you some more with the formatting. Any more questions, please ask away. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 05:10, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CCL Label Decorative Sleeves page.

[edit]

I recently created the CCL Label Decorative Sleeves page. Unfortunately it seems I was a little eager, and didn’t get yourself or one of your colleagues to proofread my article. Also there are neutrality warnings on the page. I do in fact work for the company the article is about, however I’ve done my upmost to put just the facts about the business and mainly focused on the history of the company. I hope this meets with your approval. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aseamons (talkcontribs) 09:08, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, you have tried to keep it objective, and the company does appear to be notable in its market independently of its parent company, so I've done a bit more editing for WP:NPOV and removed the tags. Thanks for the article. Top Jim (talk) 09:23, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Top Jim. I've removed the {{db-spam}} from this article, as I think the person in question is notable enough for Wikipedia and the article is fixable. I've removed the unreferenced content and I notified the creator on the impropriety of advertising here on Wikipedia. Feel free to take the article to AfD if you disagree with my action. Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:14, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

/* Speedy deletion nomination of Christopher Swagga Nicholas */

[edit]

This page is a representation of a music producer that has just achieved success. All the links on the site are valid and googling this artist provides just short of 400,000 hits. (http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&expIds=17259,17291,23756,24878,26637,26692,27023,27151&xhr=t&q=christopher+swagga+nicholas&cp=26&pf=p&sclient=psy&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=christopher+swagga+nicholas&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=7618285d7109e1b3)

There aren't many artists from where he lives and so he is considered to be somewhat influential to the area.

Any help would be gladly appreciated —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matchboxboy (talkcontribs) 22:22, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thanks for contributing. Quantity of Google hits isn't what makes an artist notable, it's quality and depth of coverage. Please have a read of WP:MUSICBIO for more info on the kind of coverage I'm talking about. The hits I can see all seem to be press releases. He might well be notable one day, but doesn't seem to be notable yet. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 05:09, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thanks for your contribution. As I noted on the article's talk page, you need to either write the article on your own words, or follow the instructions at WP:IOWN to sort out the potential copyright infringement. Wikipedia can't simply take anyone's word for it that they're the person who wrote the page, it has to be confirmed for legal reasons. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 09:14, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is been thanking you in doing relevent help for references etc in the Article. As some more corrections are been done now, in order as per your requiremnts. RegardsHARRYMAGIC (talk) 14:54, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At Harsh Vardhan Jain. Confused the hell out of me. Maybe I should focus solely on editing so you don't speed past me! Bigger digger (talk) 00:44, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. :-) Yeah that one made my head spin too. Not sure why I'm doing so much work clearing out an article which will clearly not survive AFD. Top Jim (talk) 00:46, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had the same thought, and now HARRYSMAGIC has removed even more of the fluff. Perhaps this editor is learning, or is something more suspicious happening?! Bigger digger (talk) 13:46, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect the former rather than the latter: with the fluff gone, there's not much left to defend on notability grounds. Both of his articles in AFD look like the work of some poor shmoe that he hired to do articles about his family and companies, with encouragement to make it as OTT as possible: "Mr Jain is often seen relaxing at his favourite place for having Afternoon Tea at Dorchester Hotel in London", etc. Top Jim (talk) 13:52, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But that's what's so confusing – if he'd done all the things alleged there'd be at least a mention of him somewhere other than in SPS. The photos all look like him, with people that look like who they purport to be, and with so many different lighting conditions that photoshopping would've been a pain. But then the websites and company registrations are so much rubbish. On another note, assuming this all gets deleted, will the photos at Commons disappear too or should I go and poke around there as well? Bigger digger (talk) 14:06, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All good questions. I guess we'll need to wait and see how the AFDs turn out. Top Jim (talk) 14:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I finally figured out how to request a change of user name.

and thank you for the feedback, I tried to only include information that could be referenced to other sources not just personal opinions. providing the page content remains neutral will the TW Coi box eventually be removed or does it have to stay there?

Thank you again

Markus Eliance

[edit]

Hi, Top Jim.

I wanted to refer you to the discussion page for Markus Eliance, here: Talk:Markus_Eliance. Based on the previous AFD's, this article has been sitting in User:Archer Drezelan's special userspace for some time, going under revision for notability. After review, I decided that the article has met the minimum requirement for inclusion. You may review the sources and match them up to the standards if you wish. Alternatively, If you would like to open an AFD page as opposed to a speedy deletion, that would be much appreciated. Thank you. Cyprian Henterfield (talk) 07:01, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I tagged that article as db-repost because at the talk page you didn't say you had added anything new, but only that you had reviewed it and decided that it's notable after all. The 2nd AFD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Markus Eliance indicates that little had changed since the first AFD, so if the reviewing admin decides the article has changed substantially since the last two AFDs, then I'll take it from there. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 07:06, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your assistance. I went ahead and included the most recent significant changes to the article on it's discussion page. Hopefully this will resolve any issues the admins have for keeping the article. Thank you. Cyprian Henterfield (talk) 07:20, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Schooley Page

[edit]

The page was submitted for deletion by employees at Frozen North Productions, after Schooley outed them for poor business practices. See (http://emilyschooley.com/blog/?p=185)

The page existed for months, and both myself and others made efforts to find more credible articles with neutral points of view from reliable sources.

That it was "coincidentally" submitted for deletion just after Schooley posted her blog post is suspicious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Misssinformative (talkcontribs) 07:47, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If something has changed substantially since the last AFD discussion, then you need to add that to the article before re-creating it. If you believe that it was deleted in error, then you could list it at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 07:53, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I made a point to find a lot more factual articles between the time it was originally submitted for deletion and when it was deleted. I also submitted the user account created solely to suggest the article for deletion for sockpuppet review. Misssinformative (talk) 07:58, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes there do seem to have been some shady practices in the nomination, as well as reports of personal attacks (I'm not an admin, so can't look at the original edit history), but these seem to have been taken into account at the AFD. Would you like me to move it to a WP:User subpage so you can take your time improving it, adding more sources, etc.? Top Jim (talk) 08:02, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to figure out how to submit it for deletion review - if you could help with that it would be much appreciated. Misssinformative (talk) 08:09, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that you and whoever this is removing the db-repost template is not going to help your case at the deletion review. Top Jim (talk) 08:14, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fluffy duck

[edit]

Hi, just ponding your interpretation of NOTHOWTO (I'm not particularly defending the article in question as I still doubt notability); you removed the full recipe but I'm assuming that a description of ingredients (and proportions) would be okay if based on a reliable source (like this one) as this would distinguish it or potentially make it a merge candidate against other cocktail articles? Thanks, (talk) 10:53, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, a list of ingredients makes sense, so long as the article doesn't turn into a drinks recipe. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 10:58, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Top Jim, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted Kacey Jordan, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. Hey Top Jim, I am new to Wikipedia and was wondering why my page got deleted. I made a page about a famous new rapper named D-Pryde. I wrote the <<hang on>> thing on my page and wrote why he is inspirational/influential. He is 17 years old and just got signed. He has over 60,000 fans and is a role model to many. He raps about life, working hard, and never giving up instead of money, drugs, and sex like most rappers. He inspires many because he accomplished a lot at a young age. He shows that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. If you think my page is a scam, you can google him or view him on youtube at "DPrydeMusic." He is well known around the world. Thank you for your time and consideration and I hope you put his page back on Wikipedia.

Celticsrule94 (talk) 03:30, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Celticsrule, and thanks for your contributions. He sounds like an excellent guy, but as you said above he's a new artist who just got signed. Have a read of WP:MUSICBIO for guidelines on what makes an artist notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia: I'm willing to bet that in a year from now he'll have had airplay, sales, tours, mainstream press coverage, etc. that will make him a good candidate for an article here. Derek iman (talk) 16:56, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Derek, and thanks for your contributions. The article doesn't appear to assert notability per WP:BIO and WP:CREATIVE, and I can find no significant coverage online from WP:Reliable sources. Note that Wikipedia articles aren't considered reliable sources for other Wikipedia articles. But if I can help you with adding any references that I may have missed, or if you have printed clippings that support Brooks' notability and want to upload them, then please let me know. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 18:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jim I have a copy of adrian's advocate story. I am confused as to how many books someone has to write to be considered notable enough. His works are published by recognized publishers, and not self published works. Also seems someone is recognized in the gay community should merit inclusion. Unless the Advocate is not considered a reliable source.

Derek iman (talk) 18:52, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Advocate is a reliable source in my opinion, but writing for a notable magazine doesn't on its own confer notability: please have a read of WP:CREATIVE. Please also be sure to make this case at the AFD discussion, which will normally run for seven days. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 19:37, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Been trying to get the Professional Baseball section of Wikipedia ready for the 2011 changes. Yet you are making this quite impossible by trying to have all the new leagues deleted. It's just going to put Wikipedia behind and make it un-updated in the field of Professional Baseball if not all the leagues can be included because you want them deleted. They are legit and notable, so please stop putting them up for deletion. Thanks and good bye. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:06, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If they're notable, then you need to show why: please have a read of WP:ORG, and if you have any further questions please ask either here or at WP:HELP. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 00:10, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, with Wikipedia criteria, they are subject to [[1]], which covers sports, sports leagues, and sports players. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:13, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, WP:BASEBALL/N WP:NSPORT are indeed the more appropriate criteria here. But the articles I've tagged for deletion are also non-notable under those guidelines. Top Jim (talk) 00:15, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Where in there does it make them non-notable? You at least should bring it up to the baseball Portal before deleting almost every independent league. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:18, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I mean the WikiProject Baseball. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:20, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So far I have nominated two articles you created for deletion. How are the subjects notable per the notability criteria? Top Jim (talk) 00:21, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Where in the notability requirements does it give a requirement they don't meet? They are independent professional baseball leagues. They are at level of play with the affiliated minors. Now that you want to Pecos League deleted, i'm waiting to see deletion requests on American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, Can-Am League, United League Baseball, etc. They are just as notable as any other independent baseball league. In fact, Super Independent Baseball is by far the largest independent league. The Pecos League is one of the elite Independent Leagues, replacing the defunct Continental Baseball League, and Liga Rookie Novato/Mexican Rookie League is affiliated with the Mexican League, a very notable league, and all its other minor league affiliates are included, the Northwestern Mexico Baseball League, the Northern Mexico League, etc. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:26, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NSPORT ought to be where notability criteria for leagues are listed, and it says in the intro that it covers it, but the text of the guideline in fact mainly addresses player notability, so notability of a league has to be inferred (so far) from the notability of its players. So I think WP:ORG and WP:GNG should also be used here. American Association of Independent Professional Baseball is an established league, which meets WP:NSPORT (by its teams and players), WP:GNG and WP:ORG, and has abundant coverage online in WP:Reliable sources. Ditto for Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball and United League Baseball. The two articles I nominated, however, don't yet meet any notability criteria I can find. I'm posting this on WikiProject Baseball's talk page. This has to be up to more than one person, and they have much more insight that can prove the notability. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:28, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you check your talk page, you'll see that three separate editors have been nominating league articles you created for deletion: it's not just one person with some kind of grudge. Please don't take the nominations personally: your editing work is excellent, we just disagree about the notability of some of the newer independent leagues. If all you need is reliable secondary sources, I have plenty of those. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:37, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, reliable secondary sources supporting notability would be great, thanks. Top Jim (talk) 00:39, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please direct me to where it says what sources are notable and which aren't. There are too many secondary sources to include all of them, and I want to be sure to include the right ones. Jntg4Games (talk) 00:48, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are no hard and fast rules on that: just use your judgement. There's a week to go on the prod, and if you think the deletion is unfair, it can always be taken to AFD for a more detailed discussion. Thanks, Top Jim (talk) 00:51, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not so fast Top Jim

[edit]

It was an apostrophe error; the page you redirected was actually the "right" one according to the manual of style; the other one I must have copied from a website. Daniel Christensen (talk) 02:21, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really couldn't figure that one out; I would have never guessed there would be such an error, for I've copied all sorts of fonts and text sizes from other websites in the past with no such problems. Another user pointed it out to me. Daniel Christensen (talk) 02:23, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eek. There are 4 articles redirecting to each other, as a 3rd editor has got involved now. Top Jim (talk) 02:24, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think all 3 variant spellings now point to the correct one. Top Jim (talk) 02:27, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean the variants on spellings such as o'rorke/o'rourk, or the omissions of certain words such as memorial or colonel from the title; because there are probably about 12 redirects that could be made for this one. Daniel Christensen (talk) 02:29, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
