I do wish to make you aware of our WP:COI policies. While at least some of the edits you've made seem to be non-controversial, you will certainly wish to (continue to) tread lightly. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 21:06, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Russ, Thank you for reaching out. I’m a journalist so I do tred very carefully.
Sabiha Sertel is my grandmother and I wrote her Wikipedia entry. I’ve had to correct, re-correct and re-correct again and again a deletion that keeps occurring by someone I can’t see. They keep deleting the names of the editors of the English translation of my grandmother’s autobiography— that’s my name Tia O’Brien and my co-editor and Sabiha’s grandniece Nur Deriş. Both our names are on the book cover as the editors,a recognition of our substantial contribution by the publisher. My guess is that one of the translators keeps deleting our names. They’ve been trying to claim that they should have sole credit. That defies the facts. I initiated the translation and Nur and I spent over two years collaborating closely with the translators on every page of the manuscript.
If there’s a way to put on notice whoever is making these deletions, it would contribute to the accuracy of the entry. There is no justification for deleting our names as the book editors. By omission, they mislead readers.
I value the Wikipedia community and hope this response helps ensure a more accurate version of my grandmother’s story. Best and thanks, Tia O’Brien Tiaobrien (talk) 21:33, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The person who was making some slanted edits to your grandmother's Wikipedia article has been blocked. I agree that editors of a book should be listed. The article is not otherwise in very good shape, from a wikipedia point of view: it is over long, and has large blocks of text without citations. It looks like large amounts have been sourced to the autobiography, which is problematic. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 22:10, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Russ, that’s a huge help. There are at least two different versions of the Wikipedia entry where they’ve been deleting our names as editors: the main Wikipedia entry and one with a variation of the Wikipedia name that I corrected in the last couple of days. Are they both blocked?
I’ll take another look at the text. The reason for the detail is because there’s an abundance of factual errors and confusion about Sabiha’s life in books, academic papers, and online material. The Wikipedia entry is an attempt to correct those errors and provide a factually accurate overview of her complex, revolutionary life. Her autobiography is one of best sources.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out. It’s great to meet one of the individuals making Wikipedia work! Tiaobrien (talk) 22:56, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I should add that errors about Sabiha Sertel include unfounded conspiracy theories and smears. I wanted to provide a reliable account for researchers and readers. Tiaobrien (talk) 23:02, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we go based on what reliable sources say. (There is a technical meaning behind reliable here.) Conspiracy theories are usually not published in reliable sources (or at least are marked as such), but sometimes negative information is. I take you as working in good faith here, but it is difficult to be completely neutral with someone that you are closely involved with. As far as editors working to introduce negative material: one is blocked, and I also have the page watchlisted. I may try to do some work on it at some point.
