Mottos

[edit]

Thanks for fixing that. I should have looked myself - I know how fiddly wiki formatting can be sometimes. Confusing Manifestation 03:42, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I'm a bit of a formatting purist myself, so while minor I wouldn't call it "nitpicking" ;) Confusing Manifestation 03:51, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Tang Photo?

[edit]

I made a cursor file out of the image Image:Blue_tang_(Paracanthurus_hepatus)_01.jpg. I would love to share it, but the GNU license simply makes that too difficult. Would you allow me to share it freely with just an attribution or a link or in some other way? If so, to whom should I attribute the image? drkslvr8@yahoo.com --129.237.95.21 (talk) 18:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: I'm not sure if your IP address will be the same the next time you log in, so I'll just reply here. Image:Blue_tang_(Paracanthurus_hepatus)_01.jpg is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License and the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. As stated on the image page, you may select the license of your choice. Therefore, you may use the Creative Commons license if it better suits your needs. --Tewy 06:20, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I must have missed that on the image page. --129.237.95.21 (talk) 03:13, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 18:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

pipefish

[edit]

Tewy, I would like to use the photo of the pipefish. I will use it in teaching material on environmental education that will be provided to teachers free of charge and be available for free on the internet. I need a high-res copy. This will be printed way more than 100 times. I need your permission to do this. Please e-mail Thank you --Ciwmboee (talk) 17:03, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motto of the day

[edit]

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:45, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Silverton Photo

[edit]

Your overview photo of Silverton Colorado is absolutely gorgeous. I have visited Silverton 3 times over the years and it's so hard to get a great shot of an entire city as you did with this one. I am very interested in using this photo on my family colorado vacation website. I obviously want to give credit where credit is due and I am interested in what information you would like included in the credit other than the standard? Obviously I'm new to this wikipedia thing but thank you so much, StephanieBfueler737 (talk) 12:50, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your picture

I thought you might be interested to know: your picture is in use at the California Academy of Sciences aquarium to describe Cup coral. Unfortunately they have only credited "Wikimedia Commons", not you. I have a photograph of their sign if you're interested. --99of9 (talk) 03:29, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

this exhibit

this is the sign
It's near their Cup coral exhibit. It's downstairs, not far from their huge aquarium tank. Sorry I don't really remember much more than this on the location side of things. They have computer monitors which cycle through a few slides, naming and describing species in each. Yours was slide 3 of 4 (on the 1st of May 2011). Here's a picture. --99of9 (talk) 22:50, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be interested to hear what they do when they hear this. --99of9 (talk) 06:48, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 14:00, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture

[edit]

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/File:Orange_cup_coral_(Balanophyllia_elegans)_01.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello, from the Portals WikiProject...

[edit]

You are invited to join the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system...

The Portals WikiProject was rebooted 9 days ago, and is going strong. Fifty-two editors have joined so far, with more joining daily.

We're having a blast, and excitement is high...

Our goal is to update, upgrade, and maintain portals.

In addition to working directly on portals, we are developing tools to make building and maintaining portals easier. We've finished one so far, with more to come.

Discussions are underway about how to upgrade portals, and what the portals of the future will be.

There are plenty of tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too) on the WikiProject page.

With more to come.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   03:15, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much

[edit]

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   23:24, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT

Notice

The article Wild Discovery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unable to find any coverage of this program that would allow it to meet the notability criteria, and neither can other people according to the page history.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
