- Do you think the resident evil video game list be split up into that many spin-offs? The list will be mostly divided up into tables made up of two games. the only one with three is Survivor series. Hi there. I just wanted to inform you that I undid your image removal on this article because I disagree with your assessment of "excessive" use. Multiple GAs which I used as a template for this article use two or three screenshots without problems (e.g. Age of Empires (video game), Age of Empires III). Both those Age of Empires articles were promoted a decade ago and I think the VG project's standards have improved since then. I've shared my concerns and still stand by them, especially for the character creation image. Some editors just fight vandalism, others are more involved in discussions, others just upload and handle images, others fix typos and template formats, others write good articles like me. There are many ways you can contribute, just find something you enjoy doing. We're all volunteers doing this on our free time, without pay.

Lumines series collaboration?
[edit]I've been working hard on trying to find sources to make the Draft:Lumines (series) into a full-fledged article. There are a few sources that cover it as a series here and there, so hopefully it'll work out. I'm very happy that the new updated website confirms what's considered a separate entry in the series. At the moment, I'm just working on making the current articles upto B-class (or even GA, if I actually dedicate myself to it) I added a bunch of Japanese sources in Lumines: Puzzle Fusion, Lumines II and also working on finding Japanese sources for Lumines: Electronic Symphony. I don't understand Japanese obviously, I remember you said you can read it. Do you want to collaborate together on these articles?Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 22:24, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Sonic Jam release dates
[edit]Please explain why the Sonic Jam release dates are not reliable enough for Chaotix; there has been no discussion to my knowledge, and frankly, a Sega product should obviously be a more reliable source than (unreferenced) fan-sites that came into existence much later. Although Sonic Jam says there were North American and European releases of that game, there is no journalistic coverage or concrete evidence (such as an english flyer or ROM) to suggest such a release. Furthermore, the Chaotix dates do not match up with the dates provided by contemporary magazine coverage. The magazine reviews give release dates of April 1995 for North America and June 1995 for Europe. These contradictions have lead us to give less weight to Sonic Jam release dates. Well remember the game was shown at trade shows internationally. Perhaps this was to aid with presenting the game there. However, the flyer is still overwhelmingly in Japanese. If the game received a proper release in English territories, they would have produced a new flyer without all the Japanese writing. I've never seen any English flyer with Japanese like that before. Also, it's worth mentioning that sometimes the Japanese use English as a stylistic choice. This is the crux of our disagreement. You're saying we need evidence to prove something didn't happen, I'm saying you need evidence to prove it happened. We know the game was without a doubt released in Japan. While there are some sources that suggest the game was released internationally, there is a clear lack of evidence one would expect for an official western release of an arcade game starring a character more popular than Mario and Jesus.All in all, there is nothing directly supporting the claim that it is a Japan-only release there, and thus a limited worldwide release is more likely than not.
I think we can come to an agreement here. The gaming sites we typically source for release dates explicitly do not rely on user-submitted data. You are thinking of sites like Moby Games and GameFAQs, which are against policy. GameSpot's database is shared with GameFAQ. I checked the page and sure enough that's where the April 20 is cited from. So for Chaotix I would agree that unless a more reliable source can be found for the April 20 date, it should be changed to April 1995, sourced to GameFan. I still think this is more reliable than Jam.As for Knuckles' Chaotix, there is still no valid source for that supposed "April 20" North American release date. Keep in mind that many gaming sites rely on user-submitted data, and absolutely none of them are obligated to properly cite themselves. - The core of Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. I'm going to tell you I have doubts about both methods. As it comes to Sonic Jam's listing, I have concerns that this may have been an anticipated release date possibly before a delay, especially since I found a GameFan preview that does say "Available March". (I have found others for the US that also say "Available April", which could explain our confusion.). We prefer to go with secondary sources rather than primary ones, and it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a primary source be wrong. Going with retrospective sources, I'm going to advise to be careful of "citogenesis", which I've seen before and it really runs rampant in video game retrospectives. What that term means is that, because we said it at some point (sourced or not), a game journalist wanted to fact-check it really quick and was pressed for time, checked Wikipedia, and went with that. I think that's also how we explain Sega-AM8 supposedly being the name of Sonic Team, and the truth is it's all perpetuated OR that has now become cited fact. So, my suggestion here would be to search for more sources, try to incorporate some from the period it was released (believe me, there are plenty full-prints on the internet of them that I never dreamed would have existed "nudge toward SonicRetro") and work on what's the most verifiable answer from there. By "limited worldwide release", I meant that the Sonic Jam release date was likely referring to the approximate time window of the game's known overseas location testing, but I understand that may not be considered a real release by most measures. The flyer contains a basic translation of all the pertinent information, so it was likely for said trade shows, and character popularity doesn't necessarily mean that the series' early history is properly documented (for example, we still don't have a specific release date for Sonic Eraser, or if it predated Sonic The Hedgehog like Rad Mobile). Basically, I'm trying to explain why Sonic Jam concluded the way it did rather than dismiss it altogether, but I do concede that it would not be usable on its own. That aside, are we all in agreement to move the North American Knuckles' Chaotix release date of April 20, 1994, to April 1994, at least in the meantime until a more reliable source surfaces? - 1995, but yes. And who knows who at Sega put the museum together. It could have been some intern that was given some old papers to dig through, or maybe he had to walk around the office and ask when each game came out and people gave him wrong information. Perhaps it was scheduled for a international release but was never finalized. We don't know and may never know. Secondary sources at the time are definitely more reliable in this case. - @Salvidrim!: Thanks! I love the obscure games. I found this game interesting because it's the only JRPG for the 3DO. I'm going to try and take it to GA soon, just needs the gameplay written up. As for the picture, I see what you mean. I think the NA cover is better because the name on the cover matches the name of the article. I don't think the image formatting is too bad. Most Sega CD/Saturn games have the same problem, although 3DO cases seem even more narrow. If we could acquire a scan of the actual CD case inside the box, that might format better, but the game costs like $500 so I don't think we will. TarkusABtalk 02:11, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- Indeed :p the game's name caught my eye for a reason that's pretty hard to translate into English, but "Lucienne" is a really "old" grandma name in these parts, and "Lucienne's Quest" immediately invokes images of a granny going on an adventure. - @Jcoral629: Secondary sources are preferred to primary ones. See WP:RS for what constitutes as a reliable source. Since wikis are user generated, they are unacceptable. If you can't find a secondary source, use the episode as the primary source and use Template:Cite episode to build the reference. - @KGRAMR: Well as they say, give a man a fish.... The File Upload Wizard is very easy to use, it only takes a couple minutes to upload an image. You can use it to upload non-free images (cover art and screenshots). Just pick the option This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use. And then pick This is the official cover art of a work for cover art or This is an excerpt from a copyrighted work for screenshots. If you upload at least one image, I can help out with the others. - @KGRAMR: Ehhh I don't think you can use that image. Unless it was published with a free license (which it doubt), then it's not a free image to use. You'd need to have some type of non-free use rationale to use it, and I can't see how that picture will be crucial to the reader's understanding of a passage. - But you did not provide a reference link. We need reliable sources that mention the inclusion of Ariel Pink, Gibbs, and Posdnuos. Addition of unsourced content constitutes original research. And in my research at least, I've found that Ariel Pink was a rumored collaborator but has not been conclusively proven to be featured in any songs. And yea as far as the lede goes, we don't need to list out the collaborators because there are so many and people will just add more and more. Just mentioning that there were collaborators is enough. I've wanted to play Dream Land 3 for a long time but it's one of the few SNES games that uses some weird ass chip so I can't play it on my flash cart, and I don't like to use emulation. I can handle reception/legacy on these games if you want to do development/release. I can start working on Kirby's Adventure soon, and then we'll go from there. The only outstanding thing I need to finish is the reception and legacy on Phantasy Star Online. I got so burnt out writing the rest of the article that I'm waiting a little while before I go back LOL, so this is a good distraction. And in the spirit of HAL Laboratory, I've been eyeing to improve Metal Slader Glory which is surprisingly historically significant for how unknown it is outside Japan. Help in deleting images no longer used

- @KGRAMR: Non-free images that are not used in any articles will be automatically deleted by a bot. You don't need to do anything. Generally don't upload multiple screenshots like that in one image, because the bot will shrink the image down so much it you won't be able to make it out, as I'm sure you learned (I should have done that with Sonic Mania). A good rule of thumb is to generally only upload one screenshot, other screenshots should be added only when there is a need for it. The reason I uploaded multiple images for Sonic Mania and Steam-Heart's were because in the case of Sonic Mania, it was necessary to show a significant aspect of development discussed in prose. And in the case of Steam-Heart's, it was needed because the cutscene images were discussed extensively by critics, moreso than the gameplay. In the cases you provided, there is no good rationale for two or three images, one screenshot it enough. TarkusABtalk 22:23, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]It's a French mag that ran from 91-2012. Their coverage of JP games is pretty solid, you might find them useful. It has a whole section "Direct en Japon", previewing Japanese console and arcade games, and they also review many JP only games as well. Sonic Shuffle plot summary

- There shouldn't be a plot summary. The plot should be represented as much as it is in secondary sources which is...almost non-existant. DirectX & Vulkan games lists
[edit]Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have no involvement in the creation or editing of any of the following lists, and I am not a registered Wikipedia user.
I was looking for current lists of DirectX 12 and Vulkan games a few days ago to see how the adoption of each technology is progressing. I noticed that the list of DirectX 12 games had been deleted from Wikipedia, as well as the list of DirectX 11 games (I also checked to see if the DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 lists had been deleted, which they had, but these latter two are not really topical to ongoing games development).
I have read through Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of games with DirectX 12 support and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of games with DirectX 11 support (as well as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of games with DirectX 10 support and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of games with DirectX 9 support), and based on the discussion on those pages, I believe List of games with Vulkan support should be deleted as well then, since this kind of information was deemed better suited to categories and inclusion in individual games articles.
As you know, Vulkan and DirectX 12 are two competing technologies with similar utilization in new PC games at the moment (currently they are much more closely matched in utilization by developers than OpenGL versus older versions of DirectX historically were, for example). Neither has become dominant over the other on platforms where both exist (i.e. Windows 10, which currently constitutes ≈60% of the PC gaming market and continues to gradually increase among Windows users versus the usage shares of Windows 7 and 8/8.1, as per statistics like https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam). Additionally, Vulkan is supported on Linux; Linux presently accounts for ≈0.59% of the PC gaming market (Steam statistics). As for consoles, DirectX 12 is also supported on Xbox One; Vulkan is also supported on Nintendo Switch (https://www.khronos.org/conformance/adopters/conformant-products#submission_310).
As for DirectX 11, developers continue to support it as well, and it is supported on Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, and Xbox One. Vulkan is also available for Windows 7 and 8/8.1. Windows 7 and 8/8.1 currently make up ≈35% of the PC gaming market (figure taken from aforementioned Steam statistics). There is some evidence (e.g. https://www.dsogaming.com/editorial/the-state-of-dx12-games-in-2017-is-directx-12-losing-its-steam/) that some developers continue to prefer DirectX 11 over both Vulkan and DirectX 12 on Windows (as Vulkan and DirectX 12 are notably different technologically from OpenGL and previous versions of DirectX), although that preference may change as developers become more experienced with DirectX 12 and Vulkan. So DirectX 11 remains relevant as well, at least for the time being.
Given the reasons stated in the deletion discussion pages for DirectX 12, 11, 10, and 9, I believe List of games with Vulkan support should be deleted as well. As I mentioned, I am not a registered Wikipedia user (nor am I very familiar with the deletion process), so I am asking if you would be willing to nominate List of games with Vulkan support for deletion.
If, and only if, List of games with Vulkan support isn't deemed suitable for deletion, then I think List of games with DirectX 12 support and List of games with DirectX 11 support should be restored given that they convey related information (i.e. trends in ongoing use), as I've tried to highlight in the preceding two paragraphs; List of games with DirectX 10 support and List of games with DirectX 9 support clearly should remain deleted as they are not relevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C58:4B7F:F346:80BA:E512:CE65:346 (talk) 11:56, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Only real notable thing was it did have a working title of "D-Swat". The caption says: "Dated 16 July 1990 - just over a year before release - this spec reveals that the game's working title was 'D-Swat' or 'Dragon Swat', referencing Technos Japan's Double Dragon". Pocky & Rocky series

Snatcher
[edit]Just to correct you on something, but Satoshi Yoshioka had no involvement with the original PC-8801 and MSX2 versions of Snatcher. If you've actually researched the staff rolls of those versions, his name does not appear in them. His first involvement in the series was with the PC Engine version. This is why you should be careful of using western sources like Kotaku. There's a few interviews in the liner notes for the official soundtracks that have been translated at JUNKER HQ that you might want to use for reference.. Anyway, I applaud for your effort to improve the article, but I feel your prose seems a bit too flowery for my taste with terms like "brainchild" and "brought to life" (but that's just my preference). - @Jonny2x4: I had that feeling about Yoshioka. I misread Satoshi Yoshikawa as him in the game credits, and felt very confused. Thanks for clearing that up.
- Thanks for the liner notes translations, I hadn't noticed those on Junker HQ. There are some interviews in Japanese strategy guides too but I don't have access to them and the guides are expensive. I would translate them if I did.
- I haven't gave the article a copyedit yet. I don't like the term brainchild either but I couldn't pick another term. He was not director until the PC Engine release. He was writer and designer but he was effectively the director. Was just trying to find a way to say this. Please copyedit if you would like. TarkusABtalk 21:35, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

In the case of Kojima himself, he was credited as "game designer" in the MSX Metal Gears and as a planner on the 8-bit versions ofSnatcher. They didn't start calling him a 監督/kantoku (director) until the PC Engine version. In the liner notes for the original Snatcher, he says that he and character designer Tomiharu Kinoshita were pretty much the first people involved with the project. I think Naoki Matsui, who is credited as supervisor on the 8-bit versions (and was Hideo Kojima's mentor and benefactor during that period), was more involved in the technical side of things if you look at the ridiculously specific credits of the end sequence. . The interview also has a hint of his Lindsay Wagner worship (lol). Matsui is also interviewed, but he doesn't talk about his work, although he does get introduce the team in this promotional flyer. Capital letter of a gaming system

I need help editing

- I added a license for the Archie Comics image. Use the File Upload Wizard next time you want to upload an image so all that work is done for you. If someone reverts the image back to classic Mega Man, you'll need to seek consensus before adding it back in.
- Regarding X. We can't upload pictures of characters freely to Wikipedia. Characters are copyrighted works, so it needs to meet a set of non-free use criteria to be eligible to upload to Wikipedia as a non-free work. For video game characters, this means we need significant commentary on the character, such that omitting an image of the character would be detrimental to the reader's understanding. We have that for normal Mega Man, but don't have that for X. I have removed that image.
