Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to White elephant, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. This is especially important when dealing with biographies of living people, but applies to all Wikipedia articles. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are already familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add your reference to the article. Thank you. Blogs are generally not accepted, nor are resources not easily accessible for verification. Ckatzchatspy 22:26, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia immediatists and exclusionists seem to have a lock on the White elephant article, which at one time was a very nice resource (for example, see the earlier version at http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=White_elephant&diff=180015436&oldid=180015123). I gave up, but if you forge ahead, best of luck! Some of us watching from the sidelines hope you get some content included. Wtroopwept (talk) 20:55, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

White elephant

[edit]

Please stop adding non-notable and unverified information to the White elephant page. I have done several searches since you first added the material, none of which support the notability of either reference. The baseball article doesn't even mention the idea of a white elephant, nor does the Lynx article. The blog you linked to only vaguely associates the term with the transit system, and several Google searches (both News and Web) fail to substantiate the use of the term. Please keep in mind that the WE article is not intended to be an extensive list of every time the term has been used. The listings (which were recently cleaned up and trimmed to remove non-notable entries) are intended to reflect situations that are definitive examples of white elephants. Please seek consensus on the talk page before restoring the entries. Thank you. --Ckatzchatspy 22:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Webkinz

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you'd added some contact info for support to the Webkinz article back in September. Well, in case you hadn't noticed, another user had reverted your contribution to that article, and rightly so- Wikipedia is not a directory, that is to say, an article shouldn't have information such as contact phone numbers and email addresses. Just thought I'd let you know since the editor who reverted you didn't. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 19:57, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a directory? Sorry, I don't get it. Somethingshiny (talk) 07:26, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, here is the contribution you made, and here is where someone removed it. I mostly informed you as a courtesy- to let you know that someone had reverted your contribution- and to let you know why this had been done. The reason for the revert is laid out in the guideline I gave you above, specifically point #3; a support phone number qualifies as a resource for conducting business. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a general resource guide- while many articles explain concepts in some extreme depth, and some also point to websites of businesses, this is intended to permit readers to find out more information about that topic that we can't really present in an encyclopedia. Telephone numbers and email addresses, unless there's something very notable about them (e.g., some historical significance to their use of a particular telephone number), generally aren't included in articles. Sorry if I came off a little harsh above! And thanks for your kind words at my talk page. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 14:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of White elephant

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is White elephant. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/White elephant. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
