Vasileios Spanoulis Grammar Errors Cleanup On International Career Section
[edit]Sergiogr, I just wanted to tell you that I fixed the grammar on the Spanoulis page on the international career section. You may not know it but in English the proper grammar would be to capitalize ALL words associated with for example The Spanish National Basketball Team. They must all be capital even the, otherwise it is incorrect grammar. The does not need to be capital referring to a national team only, but if it is used to refer specifically to the team itself from say Spain or Greece then the proper English is it must be capitalized. In the cases it is being used it would be capital, otherwise it is grammatically incorrect.
Also, in the case of Greece's team you would use the word Greek not Greece as in English in this case Greek refers to the team's players and thus you use Greek to describe the players rather, than Greece, which is describing the country. If you use Greece instead of Greek then you have to write it as Greece's National Basketball Team, instead of just using Greece, either Greece's or Greek is correct, but just Greece is wrong.
I'm just trying to clean up the grammar there because it was terrible as it was. Thanks and keep up the good work. --Wiki Is Mine 15:07, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

The goal is to improve this article by the end of May so that it can be nominated for Featured Article status. In particular, free-use images should be found for the article, all Manual of Style guidelines should be followed, and a neutral point of view should be maintained throughout the article. Although the article was not promoted, it was significantly improved through the work of many editors. This month's Collaboration of the Month is Steve Nash. Hijacked By Spanoulis Fans?
[edit]What the hell are you talking about? You are either an Olympiacos fan or just some crazy hater then. I read through that article and there is absolutely NOTHING that is biased. It's all factual and true and in fact has SEVERAL negative things about poor play, being BENCHED, etc. If you think that's written by a Spanoulis fan you are crazy. I am marking all the articles biased because we must keep everything balanced and proper. I will be marking all the Panathinaikos players biased as well. Because they are written in exact same manner.
In fact the Alvertis one is 10 times more "biased" than the Spanoulis one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.194.182.55 (talk) 17:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry if you interpreted wrong
[edit]I was not trying to hijack I just believed that the Spanoulis article is written in same manner as the other PAO ones, other ones from some Greek national team members and such. Some Greek players like Galis, Papaloukas, Alvertis have exact same type writing in their articles for instance. Anyway, I'll go throug that Spanoulis article and try some fixes. Anyway, I think weshould eaither mark most these ones biased or not mark any of them because it's about the same. Just to keep everything standard for the Greek basketball players. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.194.182.55 (talk) 19:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok well I removed the POV's on the other articles
[edit]I looked for some history on Spanoulis article like you said what his name means. It looks like it was added because in America people confuse the meaning of the name or how it transliterates. Even though it's Basil in English, in American slang form it would be William. So it seems it was put their to explain that in Greek form it actually should be Basil if it is correctly transliterated into English, even though in the US it would be "Billy".
I think it's just because he played in the US that these are explained it's for the American basketball fans that don't know these things, not for the Greek speaking fans like us. It would be the same way if Diamantidis or Papaloukas joined the NBA, things like what Dimitris means would be on their page probably. Because people in America would not understand it. It seems unnecessary to Greeks, but it's not to Americans. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.194.182.55 (talk) 20:12, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Euro 2008
[edit]Hi there. I changed the way the results are shown in the Euro 2008 article in order to match the 2006 FIFA World Cup article. The detailed match results for Euro 2008 can be seen on the individual group articles (Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D), so no info is lost. This seems to be becoming the accepted style for articles that have sub-articles for the group stage/knockout stage, so although I know you were acting in good faith, we should continue with this accepted style from now on. – PeeJay 08:07, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Why did you remove the video highlights? Are you the godfather of these player profiles here or something? Your nonsense is getting old my friend. [edit]Because they are listed under BIOGRAPHIES. They are said to follow those rules. Basketball players on Wikipedia do NOT govern the biography sections. They are biographies so they are governed by those rules and yes you can pout video clips on biographies it's allowed under the rules and in fact Wikipedia guidelines state that the purpose of the site is to expound as much knowledge as possible to the general public about each article on the site. You seem to have a problem understanding that player biographies are governed by the site biography rules and keep acting like you cannot add anything to one that another player does not have. Which is wrong. There is no set policy for what can be on a basketball profile so stop acting like there is. Just like your assertions that "fans hijack articles" or "useless personal facts do not need to be in the articles" is actually AGAINST Wikipedia biography policy. It just gets aggravating when people like you keep ignoring the site principles and making up your own rules as to what the biography guidelines are.––Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 09:44, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

God damn you do not own this site I even let that go even though everyone else wants depth charts I let it go. You got your way of "I own this site" on that but now you refuse to allow Nicholas to be added after he just officially signed? YOU just earned a report to moderators. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Apollon Hellas (talk • contribs) 17:42, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey man seriously. You need to drop your attitude. STOP harrasing people that are contributing to the site. I am contributing and making the site better and I do not need that kind of crap. There are people that actually do cause problems maybe you should be on them not me. I cannot believe your rudeness over the Nicholas thing. Way out of line.
NBA Draft
[edit]They just talked about on ESPN that the Chicago Bulls have already picked Derrick Rose.
Smuckers (talk) 23:28, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
True, I wasn't even sure if the original poster who put Derrick in the #1 spot was right, then I saw it on TV, so I just made it into links.
I did that because its a list only for billboard albums. I have a link under the chart, to see the rest of the albums this year, I dunno if it's listed or not, but if it isn't, you can add it to that. Sorry. Y5nthon5a (talk) 19:17, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- I never even deleted that album, lol, you did. Y5nthon5a (talk) 20:49, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Well, since I had never heard of any of them and that they didn't have an article I went ahead and deleted them. However, since you say that Pavlos Kontogiannidis is a notable person from Veria, I'll go ahead and add his name back to the article, if that's fine with you? Spanoulis
[edit]You should be aware that wikipedia rules allow youtube videos to be posted under external links. On Spanoulis' page they should have not been under a heading "Video highlights," but they also are allowed. The correct thing for you to do would have been to move them to the external links. You need to keep this in mind in the future, because you are not following the exact method of site guidelines. If you come across any player profiles with this error again, the proper thing is to move them to the external links, not to remove them. Please properly follow the wikipedia guidelines for pro athletes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.194.179.104 (talk) 20:37, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

You've heard about that tag? I didn't think I have to name a source for something this obvious, but OK. Anyway, I prefer placing a tag instead of reverting in these situations, and if nobody confirms the information (which is what you could've done yourself in 10 seconds) in, say, 24 hours, you can remove it. This way, valuable information can be removed without notice.--Vitriden (talk) 23:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Invite to the African Destubathon
[edit]Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:12, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
