Hey, about that request...
I was over in Tampa, Florida today for an interview and did some "drive-by" shots of two stations: WTVT and WFTS-TV. Hopefully they are of decent enough quality. If not, I can always go back and take some more images when I am over there again. The WTVT station is located near my favorite cake shop, ever (period, exclamation point). If you ever go to Tampa, go to Wrights! Also a picture of a dog, because... Adog (Talk・Cont) 16:44, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- These are great, @Adog. I haven't done WTVT yet, but the SkyTower is really photographable. Also adorable dog. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 16:48, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

New shows
There has been some new shows here including 3 court shows by Allen Media Group that need to be created on Wikipedia. They are Equal Justice with Judge Eboni K. Williams, Justice for the People with Judge Milian, and Mathis Court with Judge Mathis and the other by Crazy Legs Television Cutlers Courts (not the same as Couples Court with the Cutlers. And a game show called Person, Place or Thing. If you decide to create these, let me know and I will try to help you. OWaunTon (talk) 16:18, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @OWaunTon A television show can be syndicated and still not attract sufficient significant coverage to pass the GNG. The Allen court shows are a dime a dozen. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 17:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Catholic radio call swap in Massachusetts
I figured I'd bring to your attention a call swap involving the two Catholic radio stations on 88.5 FM in southeastern Massachusetts: the call signs of WPMW and WRRS were swapped on August 15. One additional complication is that a "Viking funeral" situation may be in play: the Middleborough Center facility (ex-WRRS, now WPMW) has a construction permit to upgrade its signal that will eventually result in the closure of the Bayview station (ex-WPMW, now WRRS), though no further filings to that conclusion have (yet) been made. I've reworked the text accordingly, but obviously the requisite page moves are a bit more complex here in all possible ways. WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 05:13, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Made the swap, @Wcquidditch. If a Viking funeral happens, the correct article title will be WPMW (Bayview, Massachusetts). Thanks for coming to me for this one. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 05:22, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
- Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
- Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
- Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

Second Set of Eyes
Could you take a look at this edit? I don't believe it was done with malice, I believe the user read the Consent Decree wrong. I re-read it and it appears Liberty University/WQLU was issued a $10,000 and had the license approved.....at least that's how I'm reading it. A second set (in this case, third) would determine who is correct. Again, I think this is a minor misreading and nothing "bad". - Neutralhomer • Talk • 02:20, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the license for radio station WQLU(FM), Lynchburg, Virginia IS CANCELLED.
This is an odd consent decree, Neutralhomer. They agreed to pay $10,000 and terminate the license. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 02:31, 1 October 2023 (UTC)- I did not catch that part. This is why I needed that second set of eyes. :) Thanks! :) - Neutralhomer • Talk • 03:14, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
KNIN
Thanks for catching that; I wasn't sure if KYUU was previously carrying KBOI newscasts or not in those timeslots, so I have no issue with your removal there. The confusing language of the 'facilities and services agreement' (new to me) really doesn't help either as I don't know whether to call it an SSA or LMA equivalent (the latter's unlikely as Marquee continues to control their ads and RTC negotiations). - @MrSchimpf This is a page I'm intending for Good Article status. And that sort of detail would fail a spot check.

wsns-tv
Sammi Brie, i had a few questions regarding this article and the associated blurb.
- is it appropriate to say that a station broadcasts a network? i'm admittedly out of my element here, so i may just be unfamiliar with the construction used in the blurb's opening sentence. to me, the wording used in the article's opening sentence seems more natural, but i am having trouble compressing that for the blurb. the best i could come up with was replacing "broadcasting" with "and an outlet for".
- I'm not helped here by the "owned-and-operated station" part. I can't say it's an affiliate. I do think "broadcasting" is kind of important here given that a lot of non-topic users are gonna read this.
- the full name of essaness theatres appears to be "Essaness Theatres Corporation", according this illinois supreme court decision. would it be more appropriate to capitalize the 'c' in "corporation" in the blurb?
- Should have been done. Oops.
- do you know why the word "paid" is included in the description of on tv in the blurb? it doesn't seem to be used in the article, so i am not sure if it is necessary. it is also admittedly confusing me because i am familiar with pay phones and prepaid phones, while "paid phone" suggests to me that a phone is free because someone else paid for it.
- STV confuses people, I've found. Badly. The technology is unfamiliar to people I talk to when I explain the stuff I've written. I've left "pay" in.
- according to the article on on tv, the service had more than 700,000 subscribers in 1982. would it be better to add some detail to the blurb to make it more clear that the number 120,000 only takes into account the subscribers in the chicago market? perhaps adding "in Chicagoland" after "subscribers" would work, like in the article body. also, the term "Chicagoland" could be linked to the "Chicago metropolitan area" article, if you think doing so is appropriate.
- Added "local" here instead.
- i tried to confirm that wsns was chicago's "first full-time Spanish-language television station", but was unable to find anything in the cited chicago tribune source supporting this statement. did i somehow miss it? i did notice that the source stated that there were three spanish-language television stations in chicago (excluding cable network galavisión), and that the other two weren't full-time stations, but i can only conclude from this that wsns was the only spanish-language television station in chicago at the time that had a full-time schedule; i can't tell if it was the first one. to be clear, i think the statement is likely true, but i was unable to confirm that it is, solely from reviewing the cited source.i am also unsure if it only broadcast spanish-language programming at the time: the article states that wsns "has just added SIN to its full-time schedule", which suggests to me that there were other programs on its schedule which may not have been in spanish. that being said, i can see "full-time Spanish-language television station" meaning "spanish-language television station with a full-time schedule" rather than "television station with a full-time spanish-language schedule", so perhaps the statement can be true even if wsns did not have a full-time spanish-language schedule.
- 44 was full-time Spanish. It also had lost ALL of its prior programming. This was a total flip. (and yes, 26 and 60 were part-time Spanish, the latter even being a part-time license) Also adding another reference that calls WSNS "daylong Hispanic".
- the blurb states that telemundo purchased wsns in 1995, but the article lead states that the purchase happened in 1996. is this a discrepancy that should be resolved? from what i can tell, an agreement was made in late 1995, so i am guessing that the purchase actually occurred in 1996, though i haven't found a reliable source confirming this. in addition, it looks like nbc agreed to purchase telemundo in 2001, while the purchase actually happened in 2002, which is the year the blurb mentions, so for consistency, it seems better to use the year 1996 in the first case, if that was indeed the year the purchase occurred.
- Changed as FCC approval was indeed granted in February 1996.
apologies for all the questions! i hope they're not too much trouble to address. dying (talk) 08:49, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Dying: Responded to everything with tweaks including to the blurb and the article. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 22:37, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- thanks for addressing all these issues! i admittedly hadn't considered the fact that main page readers may be more familiar with the term "broadcasting" than the term "outlet". thanks for pointing this out. also, using "pay" sounds like a good alternative. by the way, i noticed that you changed in the article body the assertion that the station was chicago's first full-time spanish language television station, but left it unchanged in the blurb and article lead. was this an oversight? dying (talk) 23:06, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

my story today |
---|
Thank you today for the article, introduced "When a new Chicago television station backed by local movie house operator Essaness Theatres hit the air in 1970 with little more than a rotating series of news headlines, this probably wasn't the history anyone expected. From being a third-string independent station that aired sports programming, the station became the key of one of the largest subscription TV systems in the United States in 1980. However, the station so totally devoted itself to subscription programming that it left itself very vulnerable to an FCC license challenge that bounced around for a decade and put the station on the brink of being handed to another company. After subscription TV withered away nationally, WSNS became the first full-time Spanish-language TV station in Chicago, first with the Spanish International Network/Univision and later with Telemundo, which acquired it in 1995." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:16, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Pennsylvania call swap, with some extra complexity
In connection with recent format changes, the call signs of two commonly-owned AM radio stations in New Castle, Pennsylvania, WKST (AM) and WUZZ (AM), were swapped on October 18. WKST is now on the 1280 AM facility, and WUZZ is on 1200. That's complex enough for our purposes — but this one has the extra quirk that the articles, as presently written, largely follow the "intellectual units" rather than the licenses — which is of relevance here, because this is not the first time the 1200 and 1280 stations have swapped call signs, and WKST was also the pre-1999 call sign for 1280, going all the way back to 1938. This might necessitate a bit more fixing than would normally be done following a call swap… and it does not help that the infobox for the present WUZZ (AM) article makes it seem like there was somehow a 2004 call change from WKST to WJST on 1280 AM (WJST actually replaced WBZY). Re: KTNL-TV
Sammi, you might want to look at KTNL-TV. It's being edited by someone with a conflict of interest. And with not many sources available, it's hard to prove notability. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 23:32, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
- Quick search of MeTV's website doesn't show KTNL as an affiliate. No press release or anything in regarding this has been released (which it normally is to a few sources), nothing in the local Sitka Sentinel newspaper or through KIFW radio (which are the two major news sources in Sitka. A WhoIs search for ktnl.tv came up with a Domains By Proxy listing, so there is no way of seeing who actually owns that site. While it seems like a long way to go for a fake, I've seen worse. While the address on their website does match the studios of KDMD (also owned by Ketchikan TV, LLC), this is far from confirming. The rest of the site does not work. Personally, I would revert in full until finding confirming sources, but that's just me. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:56, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Neutralhomer and @Mvcg66b3r A key piece here is that KTNL, like KTVA, was stripped for affiliation parts when GCI exited television. TVNewsCheck says KTNL was dark when Ketchikan TV bought it. Given the remoteness of this station, information on current operations is going to be utterly tough to get. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 05:16, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Sammi: I fully agree. I've been to Sitka, it's a beautiful area, but it's small and it. is. up there. For there to be a full-power TV station in a town of just 8,400 is next level. It's just that normally when MeTV/Weigel affiliates with a station, they release a press release via PR Newswire (or something similar) and it's mentioned in Broadcasting & Cable (or a similar publication). I'm not saying it's completely false, I just can't find anything to back the change up. I do, however, show the station is licensed and should be on the air, but that's not really enough to definitively confirm. I leave it up in your and Mvcg66b3r skilled hands, just my contribution. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 14:38, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- There's also a website; an issues and programs list set, which shows some local Sitka programming (and MeTV programs like Leave it to Beaver when they returned to the air in 2021); and so on. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 18:30, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm just going on the information I have available, I'll leave you to it. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 19:39, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Hey Sammi, I noticed that the KTNL website has gone down. It's currently just GoDaddy boilerplate. I did some digging and it appears KTNL's information is being absorbed into the website of sister-station KACN/Anchorage. You can see the "Over Air 7.1 Sitka" listed in the "Where to find Me-TV in Alaska?" box. That might also mean a change in logo, but I'll leave that part up to you. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 03:46, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- What a time for it to go down. Extremely frustrating. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 04:12, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- I know, but there all is not lost. There is the alternate website and the YouTube video below for sourcing, so it'll work out. :) I can make the changes, if you'd like (since I'm not very schooled on new WP:TVS rules). - Neutralhomer • Talk • 22:52, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

The fact was ... that in its first full month on the air, an Idaho TV station had the highest prime-time viewing share of any independent station in the United States? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/KTRV-TV. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, KTRV-TV), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. The article WXLV-TV you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:WXLV-TV for comments about the article, and Talk:WXLV-TV/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility.
