Welcome to the AMA

[edit]
File:AMA logo.png

Hello Sir james paul, I see that you have decided to join the AMA. I'll be the first to say welcome! We're always in need of more advocates, especially since were backlogged most of the time. Just a few pointers for what we do. We communicate by putting a template on our talk page. The template is {{AMA alerts}}. The AMA also has it's own IRC channel, which reports new cases and alerts to us. It can also be used as a place to ask for advice on an issue. If you'd like to jump right into a case, you are free to check out AMA Requests for Assistance, which is our new request for advocacy system. The instructions for how the technical part works is on it's talk page. You can also use the AMA userboxes that appear under here. If you have anymore questions about the organization, just ping any advocate's talk page, including our coordinator Steve Caruso or deputy coordinator Wikiwoohoo. Again, welcome to the AMA! We currently have a meeting in progress here, to which you're welcome to contribute. Can I suggest that you resolve your current dispute with khaosworks before taking any cases - it should make things easier for you. Also, in the current meeting, we're deciding on some processes for newer editors who'd like to become advocates, and you'd probably fall into this "class" were the rules in effect (they aren't yet!). To this end, I'd like to offer my help to you on your first (few) cases, just to look over what you're doing and help you with policy when/if you need it. Thanks, Martinp23 22:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Human (Dragon Ball)

That's fine. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 04:45, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only way I'd be content with letting the article stay is if the suer can come up with a better rationale than the Pokemon test. As we've shown time and again, the article's just a stub that won't grow. There's simply no point in keeping a topic that basically says nothing the main article doesn't already. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 04:59, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be willing to talk about it, but I don't see anything coming out of it. It always ends up in roundabout discussion. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 05:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 05:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it'll get anywhere because the few who care are set on having almost any article they can find kept. That article was a redirect for a month or so before being dug up using the reason "no consensus before merging." That no one objected in a month is proof that no one cared at the time. Furthermore, like I stated above, the logic for keeping it is the Pokemon logic used to defend basically any article even one editor finds the least bit interesting. The only thing that deters such logic is when people with more authority discourage it. This might be the only course that convinces them to stop, when it should never have come here in the first place. Plus, when the first thing this keep user turns to is the accusation of sockpuppetry ("who may in fact be the same person"), I just don't see how helpful discussion can occur. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 05:45, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would be happy with that. There are more than enough individual races to fill up such a page. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 06:05, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
5 thus far. Outside perspectives always help. Now if you can convince the rest we'll be in business. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 06:15, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No one disputes that SBC's mother is a Jew. The controvosy is about whether she has Persian origin. Klymen feels very strongly that she is of Persian origin, and cites 4 sources which support him. Mad Jack has provided evidence that suggests the Persian Origin claim originated on wiki, and then was copied by the a Gurdian journalist. See Talk:Sacha_Baron_Cohen#Request For Comment. There is no proof that the Persian origin is incorrect. But there is enough doubt to exclude it from the article IMO. Especially as it is of incidental importance. I agree not to edit this question in the article, but I may make other unrelated changes. Abu ali 20:27, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blogs

[edit]

You seem to be going around and scrubbing articles of links to blogs. While the external link policy does list blogs as links to normally be avoided, there are times when links and mention of blogging is relevant. For example, you removed a blog link (and a wikilink to blog - why??) from Eric Goldman here [2]. In fact, this is a vital link, because part of the very claim for his notability is something he discussed in his blog. This wasn't just a link to a blog for some kind of linkspamming tactic, but a valid and crucial citation. Please take more care - aggressively removing any and all blog links is not what the policy means. thanks. --ZimZalaBim (talk) 14:41, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're edit here [3] actually added vandalism back into the article, and left other vandalism untouched. Again, examine the history when reverting. --ZimZalaBim (talk) 16:33, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Again feel the need to remind you to check histories when reverting. Often vandals make more than just one edit, and when you do a simple revert, you only catch that one edit, and leave other vandalism untouched. Thanks for your efforts, but more attention to histories helps alleviate the need for others to follow up on your work. Cheers. --ZimZalaBim (talk) 02:01, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for joining the Religion project

[edit]

As you can probably tell, the WikiProject Religion is somewhat (heh, heh) new and still in development. Also, I've been rather busy tagging a slew of other articles, and have been basically too lazy and obsessed with what I've been doing elsewhere (there, I said it) to have responded to your joining earlier. I just wanted you to know that your joining has been noted, and welcomed, and that if there are ever any questions you might have regarding the project, to please feel free to let me know. I generally responded fastest to messages left on my talk page, as I get really tired of seeing that orange "new messages" bar pretty quickly. Right now, I'm trying to tag the various articles which are more closely associated with some of Religion's daughter projects, so that we can know which articles are left. That, among other things, has been the cause of my recent preoccupation elsewhere. Hopefully, by the beginning of the year, we will have things broken down effectively enought to be able to start work in earnest. Anyway, my apologies for my earlier rudest and my sudden burst of verbosity. My sincerest thanks again for joining the project, and if you should ever have any questions regarding it, please feel free to contact me directly or leave a message on the project talk page. Races (Dragon Ball)/Human (Dragon Ball)/Earth (Dragon Ball)

[edit]

Oh well... it seems that we've lost the Human (Dragon Ball) article (once again) by Nemu with his reason being this. Now, what do we do? What do we do? I guess there really wasn't anything else to add to that stub. For some reason, I can still feel it in my heart that the article can still be fixed up and extended to the point where it isn't a stub anymore. Question is, how? I will admit that it being renamed to Races (Dragon Ball) deserves a shot at least since Dragon World is inhabited by other beings (besides Humans) such as: monsters, aliens, demons and the like. Right now I'm starting to feel like Gilbert O'Sullivan was when he sang Alone Again (Naturally). Power level (Dragon Ball) 02:39, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What did you plan on adding to Races (Dragon Ball) anyways? I mean, we could talk about not only the humans that inhabit Earth, but include the monster, alien, and demon characters that also inhabit Earth. Please tell me this is what you meant to talk about when moving the page to Races (Dragon Ball). Power level (Dragon Ball) 02:46, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's redirected and the AMA didn't get so much as a word out of the one who proposed it, so just let it be. The practice of dragging things from their graves and doing nothing after the fact only causes more trouble for those of us that eventually bury them again. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 03:02, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So long as it's left alone it's not a problem. What little content it had already exists elsewhere, so leaving it alone saves us all a headache. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 03:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting and smiles

[edit]

Hi again, Sir James! Firstly, thanks for the smile, I shall endeavour to pass on the warm feelings to other editors! In answer to your question, I have three ways of reverting vandalism which increase in automation.

  1. Comparing two versions using the history page to see if what has been added since a last, known good version constitutes vandalism. I'll then edit the last good page with 'rvv' as summary to revert the damage.
  2. I use pop ups which allows me to hover over a 'diff' and see what has been changed. If I consider the change to be vandalism then I use the pop ups 'rv' option which reverts the change automatically and adds a summary like Revert to the revision prior to revision 95596822 dated 2006-12-20 21:41:15 by 200.189.88.11 using popups. This can be problematic, however, since it only rolls back one edit, so if the vandalism was caused by multiple edits, you have to use method 1.
  3. Using VandalProof I get a number of options on the degree of severity of warning template I add to a vandal's page, while VandalProof automatically rolls back all the edits from the last (vandal) contributor. It's very good, but I've noticed that if I don't act quick enough the data on the currently selected article can go stale and you may be allowed to roll back after someone has already reverted the vandalism, without you noticing. But besides that it's a great tool.

If you have any other questions about this, or anything else, don't hesitate to get in touch. Cheers! Budgiekiller 12:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In response to this comment, I'd just like to ask if you could keep "God" out of your vandalism warning comments. Jumping in, I concur. Actually, I think its troublesome to say "God bless" to anyone if you don't know for certain whether that person believes in a "God." Many might consider such a sentiment directed at them as offensive. --ZimZalaBim (talk) 05:53, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good header, hu? :) I'm responding on another section because if I do the other, everyone I gave the "card" out to will get it also. Now let's address the issues you brought up :).

1) You're are Christian. Okay, I'll try to remember that for next year, but don't be offended if I don't. I don't have the best memory for stuff like that, sorry :).

2)How tomake the "card". I will provide the code for this specific "card" below. To customize, you'll have to edit the different areas.

== merry Winterval(s)!!!! == {|align=center |[[Image:Bentley Snowflake4.jpg|150px|thumb|Oh, the weather outside is frightful!... Thanks! -->

Be wary of the headers, as I stated above if you include one and edit the section it's under (Merry Winterval(s)!!!!!, in this case), everyone who recieved the card gets that message that you added too. However, it makes it so you don't have to keep putting the same headers in the box (of course you could always put it in the main edit box with the rest). Next you put it under a page (user:Sir James Paul/"cards"/Winterval, for example). Than you put {{(your title of page here)}} around it to get your personal wishes.

3) The sockpuppet. That's a long story that was short lived. It won't happen again but I will say it wasn't me. I'll explain it later if you want.

Hope this helps and merry Christmas! —¡Randfan!Sign here? 19:35, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Bots

[edit]

I'll be happy to help if you have any queries - I write mine in C#, but there's a bot framework called the Pywikibot framework - see WP:BOT for links to info on this and to other pages. For an anti-vandalism bot, I'd suggest that you contact Tawker or Voice of All for info, as they have written such bots. Thanks, Martinp23 20:19, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've got User:MartinBot here, which is an anti-vandalism bot (a clone of Tawker bot), but I don't put it online very often because User:AntiVandalBot reverts most vandalism now (most bot-detectable vandalism, that is). I'll be happy to help set the bot up on another wiki (like simple), if you'd like me to. Martinp23 20:32, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm - I know that we have the biggest problem with vandalism here, but the only bot which I've got is completely ineffective. Firstly, connecting to the WikiMedia servers is too slow, so it often misses vandalism (this is unavoidable) and secondly, AntiVandalBot, which runs in the same way but on the toolserver, cathes nearly all vandalism. I only ever run MartinBot when there are problems which need it to be up. I've never developed an anti vandalism bot, so I doubt that I'd be able to help with a new project - t a new bot of your own, I suggest that you contact Voice of All or Tawker. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Martinp23 20:52, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for offering your help my friend. I was accused for what I didn't do File:Cry-tpvgames.gif. But I will take necessary actions against that in near future . The funniest thing in that was, I'm currently communicating with three of my confirmed sock puppets through e mails and some how I made an approach to get their help on my future actions. Until that take some experience, because I will need your help desperately on that. Oh not only that, the person who submit that case was accused for vote stacking using multipel accounts and blocked indefinitely. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ Walkie-talkie 16:48, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No prob. First read this. I'm contributing to the Wikipedia from Sri Lanka and currently using Sri Lanka Telecom ADSL Broadband connection. Normally the process for checkuser is the person who submitting the case should provide evidence. User:Elalan had provide evidence against User:Snowolfd4, but not against me. I was caught up for this issue because Sri Lanka Telecom had assigned considerably small number of IPs to its ADSL IP pool and they issue those IPs dynamicaly. As I know other 3 of my confirmed sockpuppets that I told I was communicating through e mail, even they are using SLT ADSL and checkuser admin has assume that all wikipedia users who has SLT ADSL IPs as my sockpuppets. To get a wide understanding regarding this issue please read this ArbCom request or ask directly from me. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ Walkie-talkie 17:46, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page

[edit]

Hello Sir James! Good to see you're doing so well over here. Can I make a small suggestion about your user page?

Where you say you're pro-life, against same-sex unions etc on your userpage it can really split people up. People form opinions about you based purely on your userpage, and that's never good. I'd suggest trying to keep your personal beliefs out of it to try to keep everyone together.

Take for example being against same-sex unions. There are masses of people on Wikipedia that support these, and as you can't meet those people, they form an image in their minds of someone based on stereotypes and people they've met before. By the time they get to your talk page to say whatever they were going to say, they're not going to have a very good image of you. This is really really difficult to explain, but just simple things that you may not notice can create big divides and lead to massive conflicts.

Just a suggestion, keep up the good work over here. Archer7 23:02, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage

[edit]

Your user page might brake wikipedia guidlines. Here is my proof.

  • Excessive personal information (more than a couple of pages) unrelated to Wikipedia
  • Extensive personal opinions on matters unrelated to Wikipedia, wiki philosophy, collaboration, free content, the creative commons, etc.
  • Other non-encyclopedic material
  • Polemical statements:

That is all from wikipedia guidlines on user pages. God bless.--89.22.9.7 21:28, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to redirect it to Nintendogs because it's just a version of Nintendogs, and can be mentioned in that article instead. I didn't asked about counter but about user account (please apologize my mistake I used the word "count"). It seems you really are the owner of the account regarding your religious greetings (dio beni, La gloria è a dio ) in both languages. So please don't edit in mixed language half english half esperanto : it's very confusing. Rather learn a bit more Esperanto before editing in this language as Narvalo asked you. Thanks. You are not the creator or the copyright holder of Image:AniJanuaryText.gif or Image:AniCalendar.gif. Therefore, you cannot release them under the GFDL.
