Some notes on Template:Wikify

Hi, I'm from WikiProject Wikify. It is our job to go through all of the articles tagged with {{wikify}} and wikify them. I've noticed you tagged Yelagiri with a wikify tag, unfortunately this article is already wikified or another tag is more appropriate. The reason you tagged it incorrectly is probably due to the fact that it is not clear what the wikification process involves. Hopefully the following will give you some pointers for the future:
What Wikifying does

Wikifying an article involves 4 main things:

  • Checking to see if an article duplicates existing information and tagging it with {{merge}} if it does.
  • Checking an article for copyright violations and tagged with {{copyvio}} if one is found.
  • Adding section headings and formatting the lead.
  • Wikilinking the article.
What articles need wikification?

The best way to judge which articles need our attention is to look for the following pointers:

  • Is the article divided into sections with appropriate links and section headers?
  • Does the article have a lead paragraph with the title in bold?
  • Does the article make adequate use of wikilinks to allow for easy navigation of the encyclopedia?

If the answer to any of these is no, add {{wikify}}

If the article is obviously a copyright violation (see Wikipedia:Copyright for details or use copyscape to check the article) then tag it with {{copyvio}} - there is no need to tag it for wikification.

What wikification does not do

We do not:

  • Rewrite articles with bad grammar, punctuation or bad English - that is a job for cleanup or copyediting; use {{cleanup}} or {{copyedit}} instead
  • Categorise articles - use {{uncat}} instead
  • Find sources for articles with none - use {{unsourced}} instead.
I hope these pointers are helpful and thank you for taking the time to tag articles for us. If you want to find out more about wikifying please visit our project page or the talk page. You may even want to join the project. Wikification can be great fun, teaches you loads of different things and gives you loads to edit - we are currently dealing with a backlog of 0 tagged articles so your help would be appreciated! Using rollback

I see that you do a pretty nice work there, but never forget to warn the user whose edit you have rollbacked. You dont seem to be warning them and this will not discourage them from making a vandal thing again so next time do warn them. Cheers! →TSU tp* 09:14, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) You might prefer to use Twinkle; it warns automatically. :) ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 09:22, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I do warn people, and I know situations where people will not come back to vandalise, where I do not leave3 warnings. As for Twinkle, I use it for manual warnings. I use Lupin's AV Tool, where I do Manual warns. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:44, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Sri, I just saw User:Rsrikanth05/sandbox I am glad that you liked my template. So I wanted to inform you that placing the tag

Rollbacking edits

Hi Rsrikanth05! On 4th June, you did about 14 reverts who were identified as Vandalism/editing-tests by you. And to surprise that non of the editors who performed vandalism were warned by you. You were also previously told that do warn the users who perform vandalism to discourage them. Your reverts are pretty good but I m again informing that please do warn the editors after reversion. Cheers! →TSU tp* 18:38, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

I unselected that box on purpose. Most of these edits were one off edits which I know will not happen. If I use Huggle, I'd warn a user because that is live and something that will or may keep repeating itself. Stiki on the other hand loads edits that were made at different times, ranging from a few hours to a few days, in which case it is hard to come across multiple cases of vandalism from the same IP. In sinple words, it's just a bunch of run off the mill edits which we rollback. I shall keep this in mind for future reference. Thank you. P.S:It is Rolling Back, not Rollbacking. :) -_Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
No problem mate and ya, special wishes for a special day of yours. →TSU tp* 19:38, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

In Case you dont know, STiki is smart enough not to warn the person if its old, (more than a day), If the vandalism has been done the same day it makes sense to warn them. Also it wont do the IPs harm if you placed the level 1 warning as its just a welcome template, and informs the person that someone is watching him to revert him. Another important benefit of giving a warning template is to help cluebot, as Cluebot sometimes hesitates to warn the new users without any history of vandalism. wp:VANDAL also states that you should warn, so that they can be blocked in time. :)--ÐℬigXЯaɣ 22:32, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Stiki Tips for Anti vandal fight

Apart from the tips mentioned on Wikipedia:STiki#Using_STiki, just wanted to share a few tips for you to improve as I am a frequent stiki user myself,

  1. The Edit summary at the bottom of the stiki Diff screen (for example here [2]) could be a big clue to prevent misunderstandings and embarassments.
  2. An in-correct revert of a genuine edit by calling it a vandalism is far more frowned upon on wikipedia. A few missed vandalism are not that problematic than a few genuine editors being incorrectly warned and reverted. besides if admins notice it frequently, this may lead to revoke of rollback rights and other restrictions.
  3. consider clicking the blue links at the bottom of stiki screen, such as page history, user contributions, user talk page, to have a more insight about the doubtful cases. they help a lot.
  4. Its generally (not always) the IPs that vandalize and not registered users. the users dont last long here if they vandalize and vandals generally dont bother to take the trouble of making an account. take special care when reverting reg. users.
  5. As everyone makes mistake so do we, please revert and remove the warning templates on the editors talk page that have been incorrectly warned, as soon as you become aware of your mistake.

enjoy using stiki and cleaning up wiki. cheers.--DBigXray 08:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Is not to be used in the manner you did here. It is self-evident that you know nothing about WP:MOSDAB and didn't even bother to check that the only red link there was linked to. Do something like this just once more, and I will duly open an ANI case against you. GotR Talk 15:38, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm really sorry for what I did but you don't need to threaten me like that. A simple Please Go thru the changes carefully would've been enough. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 18:39, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Oh man, Guerrilla of the Renmin, you are sounding like threatening someone. I'm sure that isn't a way to warn a faithful editor, and being rude will take you no where in the community. Being rude here, will take you nowhere. If you are being rude to volunteers continuously, I might open an ANI against you. Thanks for understanding. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 07:48, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi GotR! I agree that 05 made a silly revert. His reverts (and post revert follow up) are little controversial but not enough to open a case at ANI. He doesn't have a habit of such reverts and is a good editor who also has many-accurate reverts. One more revert like this is not enough to get him topic banned and threatening him like this is not a good way of informing him. And KN, on one hand while gotR is wrong, talking about a case against him also wasn't the correct thing. There is no need of tit for tat as and his message was merely rude, it was not a personal attack. If he continues to do this to many editors then surely a case about his activity will be needed. Thanks! →TSU tp* 14:05, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Controversial, what? You are the same person who tried justifying adding blogs as sources for an article headed for GA. This was why I DID NOT warn too many users, IP or not. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 09:01, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
