Thanks so very much for supporting the recent FAC of Hispanic Americans in World War II. It was successful and Hispanic Americans in World War II has been promoted! I'm looking forward to hopefully getting Hispanic Americans in World War II on the front page. In the mean time, please accept this Beer as a token of my gratitude. Salud! Zeitgeist the Movie

[edit]
I just found out.--Rockero 01:13, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Zeitgeist, the Movie, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Zeitgeist, the Movie was previously deleted as a result of an articles for deletion (or another XfD)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Zeitgeist, the Movie, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hello Rockero,

Thank you for your reply concerning my request to add Chicano Forums as an external link to the Chicano article page.

I sent this follow up reply but I am not sure you received it:

Hello,

Yes, that was me on La Causa KPFK radio. I've also debated Fox News' John Gibson on the radio. But, honestly, I usually turn down these offers because either myself or my good friends wind up getting death threats. I recently turned down an opportunity to discuss (modern) Chicano Nationalism on Univision's Aqui y Ahorra.

The reason for my email, however, is because I noticed in Wikipedia's Chicano page: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Chicano where "External links" are listed is a website "Network Aztlan."

I truly believe Chicano Forums has a right to be listed there as well. We, Chicanoforums.com, are the main Chicano activist website on the internet. Our subscriber list trumps Network Aztlan by at least twice as many subscribers, possibly three times as many. I know this because I was a member of their group for a very short period of time.

ChicanoForums.com works very closely with ANSWERLA and LA.Indymedia. No other Chicano website on the internet compares to our activism.

As a result, I believe ChicanoForums.com should be listed as an External link in Wikipedia's Chicano page.

Kind Regards,

Daniel Maldonado Webmaster ChicanoForums.com

                               ###

Rockero,

Chicano Forums are discussion forums. We do not hold prejudice any article source. We believe the community members are able to make this judgment themselves. Each article posted is judged on its own merits. Not every article posted gets to stay on our website. We have a team of moderators which I personally oversee. blatant racism and homophobia have no place in our forums.

I honestly feel that the Chicano Internet community is suffering a disservice on the Wikipedia Chicano article page by not allowing them to judge ChicanoForums.com for themselves. Our website does an immense amount of good for our migrant brothers and sisters. After all, this is precisely how we Chicanos came to be in the first place.

I am a Zacatec indigena of Chichimec heritage on my mother's side. My father was from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. His grandparents were from Madrid, Spain. I am not a racist. I am not an anti-Semite nor am I homophobic. If you were to see my family, you would know that racism, anti-Semitism and homophobia are next to impossible since my family is made up of "all of the above."

Please reconsider adding ChicanoForums.com to Wikipedias "Chicano" article page "External Links."

Thank you,

Daniel Virtualchicano 13:02, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Daniel. I've just been busy. I will look into it at the first opportunity.--Rockero 00:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MoctesumaEsparza.png

Thanks for uploading Image:MoctesumaEsparza.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Help Requested:

[edit]

Subject: “A major edit should be reviewed to confirm that it is consensual to all concerned editors”. Thank you for reviewing my first Wikipedia article on East Los Streetscapers. There is much to learn about Wikipedia and writing an article. I am a bit overwhelmed. I am requesting your help by re-visiting this article and reviewing the edits and tags that are continuously being placed on it by user named “Blow of Light”. These include deleting the “references” and threatening to “prod” the article, etc. I would very much appreciate your evaluation of these edits so a consensus can be achieved. I want to preserve the integrity the article.
I welcome qualified edits that will improve the article..
Thank you for your help.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:OurLadyoftheAmericas.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:OurLadyoftheAmericas.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on California Rural Legal Assistance requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --N419BH (talk) 19:35, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:25th-Chicano-Park-Day.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:25th-Chicano-Park-Day.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:06, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

My CSD tag was placed in error. Someone did add a large quantity of information directly from the group's website, and this was the basis for my nomination as possible copyright infringement. However, I'd say the admin noticed my mistake and reverted the page to your edit. Either way it appears the offending edits have been removed from the page history. Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention. I'm relatively new to Wikipedia so any advice is greatly appreciated. --N419BH (talk) 14:35, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Libertad.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Libertad.jpg.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 04:08, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rockero, I am leaving you a message because i am very concerned about some attacks that are being made on a page called THE COURAGE TO HEAL, about a very important and influential book. The page has been co-opted by a destructive troll with a judgmental and harmful and non-objective agenda, and it is not clear what to do to protect the objective content. Thanks! Redondo Loves Wikipedia (2/14), Wik-Ed Women (2/17), and Unforgetting LA at the Getty (2/21)!

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

The LA Wikipedia community has three events in mid-February -- please consider attending!

First, we have a Valentine's Day edit-a-thon appropriately named Redondo Loves Wikipedia, which will take place at the Redondo Beach Public Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 14. Join library staff, the Redondo Beach Historical Society, and others to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of Redondo Beach!

Second, we have a Wik-Ed Women editing session on Tuesday, February 17 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. This series of informal get-togethers is designed to encourage Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome!) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists.

Third, we have an Unforgetting LA event put on by East of Borneo in collaboration with the Getty Research Institute. Come help improve Wikipedia's coverage of LA design and architecture, and have an awesome free day at the museum -- parking will be validated for edit-a-thon participants! If you'd like to use particular books from GRI's great collection, be sure to email before 2/13 (instructions at event page).

And be sure to check out our main meetup page, because we already have three SoCal events scheduled for early March!

Resurrection of Southern California Task Force

[edit]

After moving from Los Angeles County to Kern County to San Luis Obispo County, I am finally realizing that there is life in California outside of L.A. and San Francisco, where I lived and grew up. Oh, I have also lived in San Diego, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Yolo and Sacramento counties, and I earned my undergraduate degree in Riverside County. I am trying to breathe life into the Southern California Task Force, and I hope you will join me. Could you visit our list of participants at the other end of this link and update your description of what you are interested in doing for us, assuming that you still want to be in the mix, that is.

In recompense, I will buy you a drink during the Wikipedia Week I am planning for Morro Bay on the Central Coast in July. Yours sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 18:17, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Freedomkid.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Freedomkid.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 00:02, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Historical citation about Jack London's "The Mexican"

[edit]

Hi. I've left a comment on Talk:The Mexican (short story) regarding a factual claim that I think is from your original version of the article. I appreciate that you provided the citation, which is a really interesting one, but I had some concerns over taking it at face value and I wonder if you could provide some more context on the talk page there. In particular, I'm wondering if there is a little more supporting evidence in the book you cited, that wasn't included in the quote; I'd certainly be interested in reading the book, but I don't have access to the UC library. Thanks!

To be clear, I don't want to jump to conclusions and say you're wrong. I am definitely not very knowledgeable about Mexican history, nor about boxing. I just happened to read "The Mexican" for the first time recently, got interested in its background, noticed this article, and thought "Wow, that is an amazing story if true, but is it really plausible that Ybarra and everyone else involved kept this secret until long after his death and then there was no further mention of it anywhere except in this one book?" And the mixing-up of details between the real person and the different fictional versions in the quote seemed like a slight red flag.

Also, from what I know of Jack London, it is very plausible to me that he would've blown up a few real details into a more sensational story that fit with his political interests; he certainly took huge dramatic license with "Rivera"'s backstory (being gruesomely orphaned by political violence and making his way as basically a feral child from Veracruz to the US, rather than being born in LA) to make it more plausible that the character would devote everything to the Revolution and pursue a sport he had no personal interest in just for that reason. All of that stuff is definitely fictional, and London focuses on it heavily. But, let's say he did somehow have this non-public knowledge about Ybarra and that that part was true. Would he really have been so reckless— with the revolution still very far from being a done deal— as to in effect shout from the rooftops of the Saturday Evening Post, "Hey, what if Mexican Joe Rivers is secretly funding a rebel army right now?" I mean, it's Jack London so of course he could be reckless, but would the Junta really have been cool with that? I'm very curious to hear your take on this. ←Hob 07:35, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Again I really want to emphasize that I know you have far deeper knowledge of all this than I do. All I'm saying is that based on the way the citation currently appears it seems like there is some ambiguity there. If there really was no other mention in the Bert Corona book of Rivers & Rivera & London except for what is in that quote, I think it would be fair for a reader to conclude that 1. Corona certainly would've heard a lot of stories about the Revolution from his dad, but 2. he wouldn't have had any way to verify those stories and 3. even if they were all totally accurate, it would be easy for either a young person, or someone reminiscing in their late seventies, to conflate two true statements from his father like "Jack London based a character on Mexican Joe Rivers" and "in the story, the character is secretly working for the same underground group that I was in" into something a bit misleading. That wouldn't be any reflection on Corona. ←Hob 07:56, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
