Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Rlemusmail, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Kol Haruach Klezmer Band, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type helpme on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Bmg916Speak 16:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Kol Haruach Klezmer Band requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Help with my projects

[edit]

help

I would love to have someone help guide me through the creation of my page.

I have written a basic text in the userpage section and I am looking for feedback on if the references I have posted will be passable. Two are personal websites and the other is a Kenndy Cneter Artist Description.

Mostly I would love for someone to look what I have already done on the userpage section.

I also will need help moving from the userpage to an actual edit.

Thanks!

-Rebecca Lemus

Easiest answer: talk to the helpers with this.
Failing that, I'll answer more here. Let me know.  Chzz  ►  16:49, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, a few hours have passed, so I guess that you are not online right now - therefore, I will answer a little here.
 • www.newklezmerquintet.com is definitely not OK as a reference, because it is not independent of the subject; it is a primary source.
 • kennedy-center.org is acceptable to an extent; the facts on it have to be carefully considered, as it is clearly in the interests of the center to promote the concert, and thus the group.
 • washingtonjewishweek looks OK
 • americanindian.si.edu is also a form of advert
I would not consider that the above references constitute signoficant coverage, and therefore at the moment, I don't think that notability has been established.
The other very important consideration is "conflict of interest". If you are directly involved with the organization, then you should not create the article - see also the business FAQ.
I sincerely hope that this helps explain things. For more help, you can either;
 • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
 • Use a helpme - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put helpme, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
 • Talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  20:19, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How references work

[edit]

Simple references

[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.

He likes tea.
b) A section called "References" with the special code "reflist";
References
reflist

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Rlemusmail/reftest and try it out.

Named references

[edit]
Chzz was born in 1837, in Footown.

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

[edit]

You can put anything you like between , but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals.

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Note: I have moved your message, and replied to it, in the section called "Rlemusmail".

How to make a user page

[edit]

You can create pages in your own user area, to work on things. For example, if I put here User:Rlemusmail/test it will appear as User:Rlemusmail/test. This will be a red link, because the page does not yet exist; you could click on that, and make the page. Because it is in your own user area, you can test things out and build an article there without it being a problem; when it is ready, you can simply move it over to the live area.

You can make as many such pages as you like. I suggest that you put links to them on your user page, which is User:Rlemusmail - then you will have convenient access to the pages. For example, edit your user page and put;

User:Rlemusmail/testing
article

...etc.

I hope this helps; good luck with it all.  Chzz  ►  15:08, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Assistance

[edit]

Hi Rlemusmail, I apologise for not getting back to you more promptly. I haven't been able to access wikipedia for some very knowledge-starved weeks, but I'm back now for the moment. Feel free to ask me for any tips - unfortunately I'm not located in the good 'ole U.S. of A. at the moment, so I can't really call. However, my userpage is certainly available. Thanks, TheFireTones 17:03, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Problems with signature

[edit]

I've copied this bit here, to your own talk page, and marked the previous discussions on my page as 'done' - just to keep things reasonably tidy, so that that old stuff can be archived.  Chzz  ►  16:27, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here are teh four ~ ~ ~ ~ (but touching) at the end. Please let me know if it does not come up. I have been making a point of adding these out of respect. Thanks again. Rebecca Lemus 14:29, 10 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlemusmail (talkcontribs)

As you can see above, it is not quite working properly for some reason. It seems to be adding your name, but not the links to your pages - hence the bot keeps coming along and marking your messages as 'unsigned'.
Perhaps there is something wrong in your preferences; if you click on 'my preferences' at the top, the easiest thing is to clear anything in the "signature" box, and make sure that the "Sign my name exactly as shown" is not checked - try that; otherwise, see Wikipedia:How to fix your signature perhaps.  Chzz  ►  16:27, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I changed my preferences. Thank You Rebecca Lemus (talk) 20:57, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Fred Jacobowitz

[edit]

The article Fred Jacobowitz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Needs More References. All of the references that are on the page BARELY mention him. If that is all there is for coverage then this person is not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I have a question about references for the Brian Choper page. There is a comment that the article is still an orphan. However, there are a numerous "Category" pages that link back to his page. I would like to know if these "count" for getting away from orphan status and if there is anything else I need to do on the article to improve it. Thank you.
