ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- I mentioned no one by name, and suggested no action. Therefore neither puposefully OR blantantly nor would that constitute harrassment. And: You're an idiot for approving political flamebait for the front page. THAT might count as harassment.

[edit]This is your only warning; if you purposefully and blatantly harass other editors again, as you did at Talk:Retelling, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Calling two editors you are responding to "morons". Whether you used their names or not is irrelevant—it's obvious who you were referring to. It's a personal attack, and as such someone who has been part of the community for more than 15 years should know is unacceptable.
- "And then track down the editor who put it there" In what universe is that not "suggesting [an] action"?
- "YOu're an idiot for putting it on the Main Page". Again, another unambiguous personal attack.
- I have declined the AIV report because it really is better suited to AN/I. You might want to read WP:NAM, and consider whether your words were civil and carefully chosen. Daniel Case (talk) 23:28, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Request reason:
Mea culpa. I was blocked for good reason, but as a long time editor with a pretty clean record, I plead 'twas a crime of passion (politics got the better of me)- I really would hate for Wikipedia to get drawn into the petty politics of the USA). If unblocked, I pledge to continue editing as carefully in the future as I have in the (non-immediate) past Riventree (talk) 5:07 pm, Yesterday (UTC−8)
Accept reason:
I have reduced this block to two weeks. Do not ever do this again. jp×g🗯️ 11:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Well, the article creator lives in Poland and one of the two references is from England. SL93 (talk) 01:21, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'd like to see you return to editing, as you appear to have had no serious "drama" before now. However I am not sure what you mean in your request when you say
I really would hate for Wikipedia to get drawn into the petty politics of the USA
as it seems like that is exactly what you were doing by flying off the handle about this article being at DYK. I'd also like to see you directly adress the NPA aspect of this block, which you really have not with this request. Beeblebrox Beebletalks 01:28, 22 January 2025 (UTC)- Setting aside that you haven't addressed that you threatened to track someone down or shown that you understand why that is bad,
politics got the better of me
is not really a great excuse for getting upset about the pretty non-controversial fact that sometimes old stories are retold from feminist perspectives. voorts (talk/contributions) 01:34, 22 January 2025 (UTC)- I am opposed to an unblock at this time. The lack of contrition after both Beeb and I telegraphed very clearly what we'd like to see indicates that Riventree needs more time to reflect on what went wrong here. voorts (talk/contributions) 01:56, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- In colloquial speech, the phrase "track down" (regarding a person) generally means to locate or get in contact with someone. It feels to me like an wild overreaction to assume that this is some kind of threat to do anything. Perhaps if they had said "track down the editor who put it there, and then cut their head off with a giant sword", it would be a violent threat. jp×g🗯️ 11:05, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Setting aside that you haven't addressed that you threatened to track someone down or shown that you understand why that is bad,
I would say this in my defense: The statement in DYK specifically referenced feminism, and that "Retelling" was a tool used (In US Politics) to further that political perspective. In principle, I would suggest that talking about political terms in common use without giving any context might be worthy of a Wikipedia scolding of someone who made the editorial decision to put such a lede on the front page of our website. That said, I SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT have assumed the title of "Champion and avenger of all things Wikipedia" and spoken as if I were. <shamefaced grimace> Mea culpa. Please restore me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riventree (talk • contribs) 01:46, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Politics were never mentioned in the hook or article. SL93 (talk) 01:50, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Are you just being clear that feminism != politics or opposing my reprieve?
Riventree (talk) 01:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I consider it as more of a movement, but why would it matter if it is politics? Why is feminism petty and why do you think it only has to do with the United States? Why do you refuse to apologize for calling me, and by extension everyone who participated in the DYK, a moron and an idiot? SL93 (talk) 02:01, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I am having multiple technical issues with my block preventing my editing this page, so forgive my lag and/or other issues. You and voorts seem like you're trying to be reasonable, and I'll AGF that. This is certainly the most drama I ever expected to run afoul of in Wikipedia, and if there's something specific you want me to say or address, let me know. I'm happy to let the matter go quiet for a time if that will cool raised tempers (my fault after all) but I wonder if that will look like I'm being blaze' about it, or if I keep talking I will piss people off. Someone tell me what to do. If I hear nothing, I'll come back in 24 hours. Good sleep, all!

- Good night, I guess. Although I already said what I would like addressed right above this. I will let admins handle this, but I honestly thought I would have received an apology from a long-term user by now. SL93 (talk) 02:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- SL, I am edfinitely sorry I said EVERYTHING I said, as well as HOW I said itr.
