Families

Hello, re: International Organization for the Family and the World Congress of Families. As far as I can tell, the World Congress of Families WAS a US-based organization that folded itself into a new organization based in Russia. It is difficult to tell what the proper Wikipedia solution to this should be. They both were international organizations, and some leaders from the World Congress of Families ended up working with the International Organization for the Family. But there is very little mainstream coverage of either group that explains what has actually happened. — Chip.berlet (talk) 22:25, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there. I asked some contacts in the Christian Right (honestly I do talk with them on some issues) and they prefer keeping the two pages separate for tax reasons in the US. World Congress of Families needs to wind down its tax exempt entity in the US to keep the IRS happy. So how about a disambiguation page? And thanks for helping! Babylon.js re-write

I would like to write an article on Babylon.js and it appears that a previous draft article has been deleted by yourself. As I do not know the content of the previous page I do not know whether my contribution will be substantially different or not. If possible would you please be able to provide me with a copy of the content. — JohnK3142 (talk) 08:55, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for advice, instructions followed. — JohnK3142 (talk) 14:42, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your help so far. Just to let you know that it turned out that there was a article named BabylonJS in draft form that was still open for editing and re-submission. Rather than have two submissions on the same subject under two different name I have re-submitted under the BabylonJS name, having first read the article you e-mailed me and this open draft article and making substantial changes. — JohnK3142 (talk) 11:20, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Dahlby

Hello editor. My rough draft got deleted due to improper copyright issues on my behalf. I was hoping you could restore the page so that I can make corrections to my rough draft. I am learning wikipedia for a course and would like the opportunity to correct my mistakes and learn the proper way to enter information. I would appreciate it very much, but understand if that is not a possibility. Thank you -- Aswieter (talk) 16:30, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of page Tami Lancut Leibovitz

Dear User:RHaworth, I'm contacting you referring the deletion of the page:Tami Lancut Leibovitz. I would like to rewrite the page and will be thankful if you could send me the text to the original deleted content so I will be able to modify it so it hopefully comply with the criteria you've listed. (G11 and G12). I've seen that the page is now protected. Please let me know how can I post again the rewritten content. I strongly believe that this article is important and should be on English Wikipedia due to the contribution of the persona in her field. If you have any suggestions on how to improve it I'll be thankful yet again. With best regards, Arielinson (talk) 15:06, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Global Wireless Solutions

Hello, I have noticed you have deleted the Global Wireless Solutions page. I was a paid contributor for the page and was in discussion with the placer of the tag. My job as a paid contributor was to make the page as encyclopedic as possible and to fit the Wikipedia format entirely. I was working with a number of experienced wikipedia editors to acheive this goal and it was almost entirely completed at the time of your deletion. Global Wireless Solutions was both a credible and significant page. The firm has been leading the benchmarking industry for over 22 years, testing the largest operators around the world. Firms that have driven/tested less miles than us and have been around for fewer years, such as RootMetrics and OpenSignal, have pages that have not been deemed insignificant and not credible. My proposed edits in the talk page were approved by a user that stated I only had one small section left to edit/clean up. A different user, the user who placed the deletion tag, had started making edits on the page that also helped make it non-promotional. I hope you are able to understand that my intentions were solely to make the page non-promotional and completely encyclopedic. I hope there is a way you can restore the page, with all of this in mind. Thank you, Scwiki3 (talk) 18:19, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback. What would be the added benefit in submitting via AfC? Also, if I were to go down that route, what would be the approval process, i.e. would you approve my application and would I propose an improved version of the page that was deleted? Scwiki3 (talk) 16:21, 8 September 2018 (UTC)

I am not being paid to create the article, I am being paid to edit it. The article was deleted under unfortunate circumstances as it did not actually meet the deletion criteria, as explained above. The A7 and G11 guidelines were not met, as the page topic was significant (the company has been regarded as the leading firm in its industry), the content was all based on credible sources and the page was in the process of becoming entirely encyclopedic. If you restore the page then I can propose edits to the History section, and that would make the page entirely encyclopedic and non-promotional, as user DGG stated during the improvement process of the page. I think this would be the most efficient route to go down. Thank you. Scwiki3 (talk) 17:52, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello thank you for pointing out the mistake I made in not proving permission to use materials for John Sedgwick page from his website. Draft:John Sedgwick I see the helpful section on that here. Please review your last edit to MediaWiki:Titleblacklist, you used a slightly different syntax and appear to have only duplicated an existing entry. — xaosflux Talk 13:36, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Donald R. Davis (entomologist)

Hi Roger, I noticed you deleted the draft page of Donald R. Davis. I contested against this deletion with valid arguments on the talk page of the deleted draft. Was this taken into account? If yes, what were the reasons to delete the article anyway? Regards, Mill 1 (talk) 14:54, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Roberto Rabanne

You deleted my article at draft: Roberto Rabanne last night after I spent 8 hours repeatedly editing it. I'm new at this and I don't understand what the offending context is. I have removed so much from this page that there is hardly anything left to rewrite or remove. I have written it all over at least twice. Can you please send me exactly what is an unambiguous copyright infringement to Side Door Galleries. I can pull that citation all together and find another...there are ,many locations I can cite for Mr. Rabanne's work. I am doing this for a class and I have no option but to continue trying. I felt I was so close yesterday to getting everything in the article approved. Please, Please I'm begging you. Please tell me what I need to change.thank you! Deletion of the Rinpr-bluelogo.png image file

Why did you delete the correct logo for Rhode Island Public Radio? I uploaded that for a reason; the white background logo is no longer in use and hasn't been for years. You can see the logo all over our website. And I'm the IT & Engineering Director for the station so I have the authority to post it. http://www.ripr.org http://www.ripr.org/people/aaron-read — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aaronread (talkcontribs) 20:47, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Aaron, new messages go at the bottom of this page, should contain links to any pages they talk about and should be signed with ~~~~. Are you declaring your CoI properly?
I cannot see how, but for some incomprehensible reason, when you uploaded the logo you included template:non-commercial from license selector. This is a disallowed licence and automatically applies a speedy deletion tag to the image.
In fact some might say that as explained here this image could be uploaded to the Commons with {{PD-textlogo}}. But if you upload here, simply select the specific logo licence option and provide your fair use rationale. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:19, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Theoretical behaviorism

Dear RHaworth: MY article theoretical behaviorism has been deleted for copyright infringement -- copying an article by B. F. Skinner called "Are theories of learning necessary?"I cite and discuss the article but of course did not copy it, as a glance at TB will show. What is the problem? This seems quite crazy. I am a big fan of Wiki, but this is hurting its image. Can you fix this problem? Thanks, jers@duke.edu — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rayner111 (talkcontribs) 16:08, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Article (Incorrectly?) Deleted

Dear Sir — It was recently brought to my attention that the article for Duke Greenhill was deleted by you after a “speedy deletion” nomination by Edwardx. Please understand I fully respect and appreciate the need for checks and balances such as these to prevent overt promotion and absurdities; however, I’m confident the article for Duke Greenhill you deleted does not fit the requirements for speedy deletion. The article and its subject are “notable” as defined by Wikipedia’s rules — Mr. Greenhill appears and has been covered in countless respectable consumer publications and academic journals worldwide — and are not overtly promotional, per Wikipedia’s guidelines, in that the article was written from a neutral point of view and each and every fact within the article is supported by an externally linked, viable source.

If you disagree, please do let us know, as we would be happy to revise the article per instruction if in fact you can point out elements that are either not neutral or notable. Thank you for your time and consideration. — Iago1608 (talk) 05:29, 16 September 2018 (UTC) Iago1608

Broadband Commission Targets

Hello, if possible, I would like to continue the discussion on the Broadband Commission Targets page. You deleted the page on August 2nd, citing copyright infringement. I had a similar discussion with Sphilbrick for the copyright. However a CC notice is present on the page (that you cited). Therefore I believe copyright is not an issue.

On August 22nd you mentioned threats being made to restore this unencyclopedic stuff. I don't believe I threatened to do that, rather I tried to continue the discussion and leave any potential restoration to you. Regarding the encyclopedic nature, the target are similar to (and part of) the Sustainable Development Goals, a continuation of the Millennium Development Goals, they are also the industry benchmark for affordability etc.

I hope this addresses your problems with my page, happy to discuss this further. — Bquast (talk) 15:54, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

I know Wikipedia has guidelines, but I'm slightly confused on them and just want to make sure I am working within Wikipedia's guidelines. I was not done editing the page before it got deleted, I didn't even think I published it, but I guess I did (Super new to this). I appreciate your time and energy and any guidance you can help with as I was following along to a youtube video when I started it. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Constantine Mavroudis, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:44, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

StableNet

Hi Rhaworth, I did partially copy the information from the company's website, but being _very_ careful to delete any language and statements that were clearly promotional. Could you point out any sentence that's unambiguously promotional in the entry Stablenet?

Full disclaimer: I work at Infosim, the company which develops StableNet, and decided to create the stub when noticed that several competing network managers had a Wikipedia entry, e.g.: Pandora FMS and PRTG Network Monitor among others.

As a long time contributor, almost-every-day user, and one-time donor to Wikipedia, I honestly believe that the addition of this entry to corpus can't be detrimental to the project. This software is relevant - has been in the marked for almost 20 years and is being used by big companies (e.g. BMW) - and, again, similar pieces of software have not had their entries challenged. I hope you reconsider your position. Best regards, Stafusa (talk) 13:39, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

American Old West

You deleted Category:American Old West articles missing geocoordinate data as an empty category in 2013. I just populated that category space while project tagging an article, Norse, Texas, that I just created. I suspect that could very well be the only article populating what is a very nebulous category in a long time. Frankly, I don't see a need to restore the category, as it really serves no useful purpose, but as the deleting admin, I figured I should notify you. For the record, I have absolutely ZERO preference as to whether the Category is recreated or left deleted. Thanks. Safiel (talk) 21:45, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

UPDATE Never mind, the problem just fixed itself. I was able to add the coordinates to the article, which in turn allowed me to remove the offending parameter from the talk page. The empty category is no longer populated. Safiel (talk) 00:44, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Request to unlock the Janhvi Kapoor page?

Hi RHaworth, I noticed that a few months ago you locked the Janhvi kapoor page due to people abusing the rules regarding its creation. Might I please request that you remove the administrative lock now? At the time you locked it (back in June 2018), it was valid, as she had not released her first film yet and thus was not considered an 'person of importance' as of article A7. But now (as of Sept 2018), she has released her debut film Dhadak, is preparing for her second and is already the advertising face of a few brands, so it seems she qualifies as being socially relevant. Thanks for your help. Rush922 (talk) 06:55, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Cynthia Curry draft speedy deletion

Hello RHaworth, I respectfully ask if you might un-delete or at least send me a copy of my draft on Cynthia Curry. Dr Curry is an internationally recognized medical geneticist. Given that there are so few women physicians profiled in Wikipedia, I felt that it was important to write a biographical entry on her. I might ask your advice on the issue of third party references because as a doctor and researcher, Dr Curry's work has been extensively published in peer-reviewed journals. I have been unable to understand the reviewers' comments that the references I had used were Dr Curry's own works. However, the point here is that Dr Curry's publications have passed through rigorous editorial peer-review in prestigious journals. In other words, the references are not self-publications because they (the publications) have been vetted by the scientific community prior to publication. This situation does not apply only to Dr Curry but to all research physicians and research scientists. Thus, I have been at a loss as to how to address the reviewers' concerns. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated, and hopefully you will afford me the opportunity to elevate this draft to an acceptable version. Thank you so much. Hello RHaworth, You deleted the page Draft:Louis Carter (CEO Coach). Firstly, I wrote only facts that I found online. The story on Forbes had all the information mentioned in the content, I gave source of Amazon for his books. I was not promoting anybody. Mr. Haworth, You deleted our page predictive profiling alleging it was a copyright infringement. It is definitely not. We replied by explaining that in fact, we created and published the Wikipedia Predictive Profiling page back in 2010 while the article cited [1]was published only in 2017. Clearly, we could not have copied something that had not yet been written. RIGHT?

Our company came up with the term Predictive Profiling in 2002; it's entirely our own. I'm hoping that resurrecting our precious page will just take a few strokes on your part. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Cham2010 (talk) 22:59, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)
RHaworth, I think he has a point. The Jerusalem Post appears to have copied their material from Wikipedia, not the other way round. The Wikipedia material existed before that jpost article was published. The Foenix Protection Services course description also mentioned in the G12 tag looks like it was published around 2015 but the Wikipedia article had the same text since the article's creation in 2010. Both sources appear to have copied from Wikipedia.
I would caution Cham2010 that any material copied from his company's publications would still be considered a copyvio, because while you may have permission to use it, the Wikimedia Foundation has not been given any formal permission to publish it, and we don't rely on the word of random user accounts. That isn't what was alleged in the G12 tag, though. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:24, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Haworth, Yes, you are mistaken in your impression that we are being compensated for our edits. That is not the case. Predictive Profiling is a term and method; it is not for sale. — Cham2010 (talk) 00:00, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

@Cham2010: Exactly who is this "we" you are referring to? Are multiple people using the "Cham2010" account? Do you work for the company that contributed to the article? If so, then you are a paid editor, and you need to disclose that. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Elena Matei (again)

Hello RHaworth. Sorry for bothering you again, but Draft:Elena Matei (which you deleted recently) has been re-created by a new editor who is unusually aware of our paid editing policies. Though I lack admin goggles, the "new" draft is visually and contextually similar to the last draft, leading me to conclude that User:Joedirosa and his sock accounts [2] have returned to finish their client's article. Note also that checkuser may be of limited use in this scenario, as despite being (on the basis of article's created, editing style, and reaction to being blocked) an obvious sock, Joedirosa and User:Artistseries were editing from different ips per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Joedirosa. -- SamHolt6 (talk) 03:10, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Douglas Bowie

Hi, if you read the note I left in the talk section of Douglas Bowie's page, you will have seen that this is NOT a copyright violation. I am the creator of the Douglas Bowie performancewiki.ca page that Wikipedia is claiming is the copyright violation issue. Douglas Bowie, my father, is the author of the content on BOTH that page AND what has been used to create the Wikpedia page that you deleted. You've also managed to put a lock on the page so I can't recreate it. This s important to him and I would like to get the page completed soon. Can you PLEASE remove the lock and reinstate the page, or allow me to re-create it and stop it from being deleted again. This is very frustrating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abowie84 (talkcontribs) 19:32, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Extended content
*@Abowie84: For one, you have a direct conflict of interest in writing about your father. I invite you to read WP:COI. Two, taking content from a website, even one that you own, is very likely to be content that is not written in a neutral tone. Have a read through WP:NEUTRAL. Three, even if it were prose acceptable to an encyclopedia, we can't accept text taken from a website without direct evidence from the owner of the site that the text is released under a free license. We can't accept the word of an editor on this project. Imagine if you will; let's assume for the moment you are not Doug Bowie's son, and someone having no connection to you were to take the content from that website without permission and post it here. That is directly violating your copyright. Have a read through Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Four; while I certainly don't mean to be rude, your father's desire to have a page here on Wikipedia has no influence on the decision to have one here. -- Hammersoft (talk) 19:49, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

@Hammersoft: There is no way for administrators here to have proof that the content was created on Doug's computer by him without significant intrusion into his (or my) privacy, as it would require uploading screenshots of email correspondence and the metadata for the documents used to create the content, and that he gave permission for its use for this page. The decision is incredibly heavy-handed. And, your comments back are, in fact, rather aggressive and rude. You have also discussed the neutrality of the content without reading it. The content is factual and contains a number of citations to other Wikipedia pages, as well as external corroborating sources. It reflects the tone and style of the content displayed on other playwrights' pages that have NOT been deleted from Wikipedia, nor will they be because they follow the rules - as does this one in terms of the content. If this page needs to be created by a colleague of his in order to ensure that it follows the rules, then we can have that done. But it is still possible that some of the material will be from what Doug has written on his website and what appears on his performancewiki.ca page - and there still seems to be no way to prove that he has given permission for its use. How can this challenge be overcome? — Abowie84 (talk) 20:09, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @Abowie84: I'm sorry you feel I've been rude when I rather explicitly stated it was not my intent to be rude. I assure you I have no intention of being so. Text based communication is a very limited form of communication. Please, in the future, assume good faith that I have the best of intentions. Thank you. As your other comments; Without communication from the person who created the content, we have no way of verifying if the content is available under an acceptable license for our use here. All content here, with limited exceptions, must be available under a free license. That's the very nature of this project. You are correct; I have discussed the neutrality of the content without reading it. This is because I am not an administrator and thus can not read deleted content. I was speaking in the abstract; that language used here on encyclopedia articles must be neutral in tone. I was not specifically addressing any content you wrote or copied from elsewhere. As for citations to other Wikipedia pages; we don't cite Wikipedia as a source. See WP:UGC for why. If you or your father wish to donate material to Wikipedia, then please follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. -- Hammersoft (talk) 20:21, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
@Hammersoft: I generally do give people the benefit of the doubt, particularly over text. But including the comment about your intention unfortunately does not necessarily mean that your comments do not come across in that way. They just seemed to be almost condescending, that's all. We all read things differently, so it's not a big deal. I just voiced the way I received them. No harm done. So, how would one demonstrate that communication had been had between the copyright holder and the author of a particular page? Is there a Wiki page that you can point me to that could assist with that? Donating material does not seem like the appropriate route for this instance. In terms of the content, while I understand your original comment, effort was made to ensure that the tonality was factual and neutral. I reiterated this point many times while the content was being edited (it is not a direct pull from the other sites, so there must have been just part of it that got flagged for copyright issue). I feel like there needs to be a better mechanism for deleting and blocking sites, perhaps where the administrator needs to communicate with the author first before applying the deletion or particularly a block. It seems too easy for administrators to delete pages, without any repercussions for deleting them without cause or consideration. I would like to hear from the individual that placed the block on this. It would have been more responsible and appropriate for them to have communicated with me before doing so, and giving me an understanding of what needed to be modified - and, as you said, giving me the benefit of the doubt (and actually reading the comments I made in the talk section for the page) and allowing me to explain and/or demonstrate that it was not a copyright issue at all. I would have happily had all of this discussion earlier in the process, i.e. before a deletion or block. But, at this point (and I am sure this is the case with many people who have pages deleted unnecessarily), I am frustrated and annoyed because my time has been wasted for no reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abowie84 (talkcontribs)
  • @Abowie84: Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials is the place you need to review, in particular WP:DONATETEXT from further down in that page. As for a different procedure on blocking sites; if we allowed site owners to have a say in whether we delete their content on here, we would lose control of the project. Literally hundreds of thousands, even millions, of companies and artistic creators try to get their content onto this project. We simply can not do as you suggest. Yes, it is easy for administrators to delete pages. However, administrators are carefully vetted before they are given such privileges. Administrators are expected to follow our Wikipedia:Deletion policy. If they did not follow that policy, there would likely be repercussions in doing so. From what I can see, Draft:Douglas Bowie was deleted three times in relatively rapid succession for violating the copyright of this page, which clearly notes on the bottom of the page that the license is CC-BY-NC 4.0, which is incompatible with our licensing here. This is a proforma deletion; if text is copied from a source such as this and it is placed here, it will be deleted as we simply will not accept material that is not compatible with our licensing requirements. In this case, it's because of the -NC part. We insist on having material that can be used commercially. I'm going to bow out of this conversation now. I think I've commented on the salient points and pointed you to the appropriate locations. Hopefully I've been of some help. All the best, -- Hammersoft (talk) 22:14, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Miss Grand International Page Revival

Hi editor. I have worked on a revival for the page Miss Grand International. I am not sure what the previous edition of the page was, but this is what the new page looks like. Thank you for taking a look at it. ThatWikipediaEditor (talk) 04:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Deletion TradingView page

Dear Roger W Haworth, I noticed the TradingView article was deleted on August 16th and I was just curious what caused this to happen? Thank you. --Erik0071 (talk) 08:16, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion candidates do not show up

For example, Category:1099 by country does not show up in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as empty categories while I tagged the page 13 days ago. Do you have an idea who could help with this problem? Marcocapelle (talk) 12:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
