cultural and historical background of Jesus

I appreciate your comment on the talk-page of this article. If you look at the article history you will see that I have been working on the article most of the day -- and I have provided a list of sources as well. It seemed clear to me that the version by FT2 (that CheeseDreams refers to) was written to be preliminary, and called out for more substance. Yet, I fear CheeseDreams will automatically revert any work I do, no matter what .... Slrubenstein

Image tagging

Thanks for noticing the work on image tagging -- I was just looking for something to do.  :) Can't promise I'll do it every day, or right away, but I'll try to spend a little time on it every now and then. (And thanks for the pointers to the templates...I was customizing my message to the perceived Wiki experience and good intentions of the contributor, but I can see over time templates will be useful.) Haven't seen any feature candidates yet, but I hope to! I did throw a couple of duplicates over to IFD -- hope I did that correctly. Also, at the beginning, I was concentrating more on getting the tags in than on paying attention to whether they were used in an article or not. What should we do with orphaned images, if we can't quickly find a parent article for them? What do I do if I find an empty image description page -- upload history and description, but no picture? I deleted the page of the one that I found, but it occurred to me afterwards that there might be a process to follow for these. Thanks for your help, [[User:CatherineMunro|Catherine\talk]] 17:07, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thank you, but i don't see your endorsement on the endorsement page [1] There has been some back and forthing over the format, ao you edit might have got lost in the meantime. Pehaps you'd be so kind as to put it back in? Theresa Knott (Tart, knees hot) 09:51, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing out this error. I apologize on behalf of those who introduced this error.
At 00:04, 22 Nov 2004, user Gzornenplatz changed the page to the last version which had all of the endorsements on one page.
Unfortunately, he was not careful enough to merge all of the most recent versions of the subpages at that moment, so a merge process took place for the next several hours. If you made your change after Gzornenplatz change, it was temporarily lost, although another pass was done to recover any such changes after the merge was completed.
However, if you made a change to your endorsements subpage after the last pass to check on the correctness of the merge was made, it was also lost.
If anyone finds any other discrepancies that were introduced during the merge process, and feels put upon to fix it themselves, I will happily fix it for them, quickly and without complaint.
I see that you have already fixed the lost changes on your subpage, and I apologize that you spent your valuable time fixing that mistake.
It may be a lost cause, but I truly believe a central "public square" where interested voters can post their endorsements is worth the effort. If it proves futile because of user issues, (or perhaps even technical issues!) so be it, but I strongly believed in at least trying to make it work.
Thank you. --DV 14:49, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Dante for ArbCom

Hi, thanks for considering me. I've participated in only two mediations thus far. The first was between Sam Spade and Bryan Derksen (old reference page here) and was a success. The second was between VV, KB, and Gzornenplatz (referenced here) and was a failure. The reason I'm currently taking a break from the Mediation Committee is partly because of my displeasure with the Arbitration Committee's mishandling (IMO) of said mediation and how it should be involved in a case which they subsequently accepted (see here for the relevant arbitration page). I appreciate your consideration. Feel free to ask anything else you feel appropriate. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 20:28, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

Webster, Wisconsin

Hi, not that it's any big deal, but if you're going to change what was a primary topic disambiguation into an equal disambiguation, please update links to the old primary topic. FWIW, my opinion is that in Wisconsin, cities and villages should always have primary topic status over towns with the same name. Towns are a minor civil division, an administrative subdivision of the land in a county, sort of the default local government for areas where there is no incorporated municipality. Towns are by and large not very well known outside of the immediate area, generally serving a population spread over a relatively large geographic area. Villages on the other hand have a distinct localized presence and serve a relatively densely concentrated population. You can find villages on most general-purpose atlases, while towns typically only appear in more specialized maps. Try Mapquest and see which Webster you can get directions to. There is no "locality" for the town to provide directions to--it is a geographic area. So, except for a small number of towns in urbanized areas, I think incorporated municipalities like cities and villages should have primary topic status over any towns that might have the same name (and while there might be many towns with the same name--with only one exception, there is only one city or village that has any particular name). But, like I said, it's not a big deal and I've stopped caring too terribly much about the place articles in Wisconsin since the way the articles were created by Rambot initially lends itself precisely to this sort of confusion. olderwiser 16:04, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

Tagging images

You're welcome. As for questions - i've found some images from NASA tagged (on upload) with "{{NASA}}", i guess that's fine ? Or should they be retagged with image specific tag "{{PD-USGov-NASA}}" (with the side benefit of being properly categorized by this) ? - JohnyDog 23:37, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Image Copyrights

Oh joy! I keep getting questions and comments regarding the several skyline and skyscraper images I've uploaded, one of them from you. Here's the thing, though: Most of these images are replacements of older ones I had uploaded, but had then found to be copyrighted. I just used basic Google image search to find all replacement images. When I found an image I liked, I would look all over the website it was on to make sure there were no copyrights. Stupid me, though, I made a second mistake and forgot to write down all the sources. So now I have all these uploaded images without sources and nothing but my own personal assurance that they are indeed not copyrighted. I've been trying to avoid this issue for weeks now, but I fear that they might start deleting the pictures if I don't do something quick. What would you suggest, since you seemed so interested in their sources yourself? Any advice would be much appreciated. MattSal 03:51, Nov 24, 2004 (UTC)

I had the same confusion when I first started thinking about contributing photographs to Wikipedia, so perhaps I can add a few helpful comments in this case now that I've researched this issue. I've posted a reply on MattSal's user talk page. --DV 06:48, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for the suggestions, but I don't think I'll address the situation today, nor will I finish it soon. I'll probably start by looking for all the images' original sources and dig deeper to see if I can get permission from the copyright holder. If that doesn't work, then I'll just have to delete them or find replacements. Thanks, MattSal 23:48, Nov 24, 2004 (UTC)

Hi. The "fight" on the Septemer 11 attacks article is back on again. This time, it's over wether the phrase "freedom fighters" (in addition to the word "terrorist") should be removed! Merge history

Aloha. I originally posted this on your request for assistance page, but that probably wasn't the right place. Basically, I mistakenly cut and pasted instead of having a sysop delete and move when I manually moved East Maui Volcano to Haleakala. On Talk:Haleakala user Marshman and I would like to merge the two page histories. I believe this would be done by deleting Haleakala, moving East Maui Volcano to Haleakala, then undeleting Haleakala, restoring deleted edits, and then reverting to the version before the move. I need a sysop to determine if this is the correct procedure, and if so, to implement this merge since I don't have admin rights. Can you help merge these page histories? If not, can you forward this request to someone who can? Thanks in advance. --Viriditas 09:37, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Not unwarranted. HistoryBuffEr did a sneaky revert, where he added additional information but included the disputed information in that edit. See User:Ta bu shi da yu/Sandbox. - Ta bu shi da yu 01:27, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I'm just letting you know that I've unblocked HistoryBuffer, because as far as I can see, he didn't violate the three revert rule in the first place. There were four edits on Ariel Sharon, but one of them was directly after one of his reverts, and I don't think can reasonably be classed as one. If I've missed anything, though, please feel free to let me know. Ambi 07:24, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Aloha, Ambi. HistoryBuffEr reverted Ariel Sharon four times. One of his more recent tactics is to revert and update in the same edit, in order to avoid people noticing his reverts. This happens to be one of those times. HistoryBuffEr reverted Ferkelparade, and in the same edit, updated the revert. You can see for yourself in the links below. It's one thing to update the page, and it's another to revert the page and update it in the same post. The former is clearly not a revert, whereas the latter is always a revert, no matter how much he tries to hide it. --Viriditas 08:03, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Re: Image:Galicia.jpg

You asked me if I knew the copyright status of Image:Galicia.jpg which I got from the Romanian wiki. The original, ro:Imagine:Galitia.jpg does not seem to have any information concerning its origin. However, a Google Image search for "Galicia map" turns up this website which seems to contain the larger map that it came from. [[User:Livajo|力伟|]] 16:22, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image deletion debate and privacy

Thanks for letting me know about Image:Nevada-Tan.jpg. Because we have had two related privacy issues come up in a short time, I am thinking it might be good to have a page about handling privacy issues or maybe publishing ethics in general. Maurreen 06:06, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

A lot of issues and pages are overlapping in my mind. I started a related but broader discussion at Wikipedia needs special standards. Maurreen 08:00, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

talk page history merges

Just realized that you were the one that handled merging all the Template_talk: pages I had marked. Thanks, that really helped cleanup some leftover issues from when the Template namespace was first created. -- Netoholic @ 18:02, 2004 Dec 8 (UTC)
