Irish politicians
[edit]Why are you adding Irish politicians to "activist" categories? They are almost all elected Teachta Dála, and are already in appropriate politician categories/subcategories. Can you please reverse the additions where they hold or have held elected office, please? BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 16:07, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
I am also puzzled by the adding of these categories, particularly in the cases where the person holds or has held public office. I too think you should revert them. CeltBrowne (talk) 17:13, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with CeltBrowne. These activist categories are not for elected politicians. Please revert your changes. Spleodrach (talk) 18:23, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- They were all already in the tree 'Irish activists'; I have not added any. All I have done is intersect 'people from X' with 'Irish activists'. Eg Joe Higgins (politician) is in other activists categories, as is Leo Varadkar. Eg Category:Irish rebels is a subcategory of Category:Irish activists. It may be that some politicians were already miscategorised as activists - nothing to do with me. Perspicax (talk) 20:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Wait, what - "rebels" are a sub-category of "activist"? Weird, and probably inappropriate. Also, irrelevant for this discussion. What "activist" categories is Leo Varadkar a member of? Or Roderic O'Gorman? It looks like there's something up with this "Irish activists tree" you mention, because neither of the first two BLPs I looked at are or were members of it. Can you link to it? In any case, elected politicians shouldn't be in an activist category, whether that's a "tree" or "by county". BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 22:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Somone who was an activist and then became a politician (or vice versa) should be in both. Leo Varadkar is in Category:Irish LGBTQ rights activists; Joe Higgins (politician) is in Category:Irish tax resisters. (Anyone in any subcategory of Category:Irish activists is categorised as an activist; this is simple logic.) Roderic O'Gorman is in Category:Irish environmentalists which includes all Green MPs. (Category:Environmentalists contains Category:Green politicians; seems reasonable to me.) Anyway I see that this is disputed so I have reverted those of my edits which apply to politicians (and Spleodrach has reverted others) and I trust this matter is resolved. - In fairness, I completely missed that Leo Varadkar was in Category:Irish LGBTQ rights activists, mainly because I was absolutely not expecting to see him included there. As per the article, when already an elected politician,
In a 2010 interview, Varadkar stated that while he did not consider homosexuality morally wrong, he opposed same-sex marriage, although he supported civil partnerships.
He only came out as gay four months before a constitutional referendum on same-sex marriage. I've removed him from the category. Thanks for your reverts. There is clearly a problem with Category:Irish activists, though, if it's that easy for a whole class of people to be mis-categorised. Environmentalists are not necessarily "activists". [edit]Please can you calm/slow down these edits? You have swamped my watchlist. GiantSnowman 09:38, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- OK. Sorry about your watchlist. Perspicax (talk) 13:38, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Alumni categories
[edit]Hello. You seem to be adding alumni categories to biography articles based on simple search matches without checking to see whether those persons actually graduated from the institution. For example, you added Category:Chulalongkorn University alumni to Ralph R. Frerichs, who only received a work award from an institute of the university. Please go back and check all of your edits, and revert those that were made in error. Thank you. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:18, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Even more egregious was adding Chaophraya Phitsanulok, a nobleman who died in 1768, to Category:Dhurakij Pundit University alumni, a university founded in 1968, because one of the references was a thesis published by the university! Please stop your current method of editing immediately and go back to fix the mess you made. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:29, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Tituba, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Please review how EGRS categories work. SMasonGarrison 05:31, 8 November 2024 (UTC) I've removed the many men that your added to the container category with the instructions: "This category exists only as a container for other categories of Belarusian men. Articles on individual men should not be added directly to this category, but may be added to an appropriate sub-category if it exists. Please note that categorisation by gender is acceptable in Wikipedia only in limited circumstances which are set out in Wikipedia:Categorization/Gender, race and sexuality. New categories by gender may be deleted if they do not meet the tests set out in that guideline." SMasonGarrison 05:37, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
