Revert oradea
[edit]Why did you revert my Oradea contributions? It wasn not really fair. I only added in the Hungarian name for the place given that in Oradea Hungarian is a legal language and in the English version of wikipedia one can point to the existing names (legal, in use - what do you want more?) because the English language does not have an English name for the town. This is common practice in the case of other multilingual spaces as Belgium etc. I really hope that you did not do this just out of nationlist impulse. I am an Englishman spending some time in Oradea/Nagyvarad and I appreciate the way people here do not behave as some do in other places around on the nationality question. I also corrected some of the English errors - again I do not see why you reverted those. Please answer to me on your talk page since I do not know how things go around here and I do not even know whether I have one. Hope you enjoy Brittany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.79.158.166 (talk • contribs)
- I wasn't at all nationalistic, in fact, my conviction is that on wikipedia we should point out the alternate names for different cities, especialy in Transylvania. But, these alterante names are not to be used every time a mention is made about that place. In the case of Oradea, you can see that at the beginning there are the romanian, the hungarian and the german names, but the article name is the official name of the city, and only one name should be used when reffering to the city, not a list of all the names. So it's either Oradea, either Nagyvarad. The same thing is about the rivers, which also have a number of names which are listed at the corresponding articles, but due to the fac that there is a city in Romania the romanian names should be used. So the reason why I reverted your contributions was the overuse of multiple names you have added. About the english errors, I am sorry, I'll se that they are recorected, the way you did. Hope to have been clear enough, if not, I'll be happy to answer any of your eventual questions. --Mihai -talk 16:50, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Romania
[edit]I wouldn't like to start a revert war, but I'd like to know why did you revert my edits? Isn't it true that some Romaians claim that their direct ancestors were the Dacians (which opinion, as internationally thought, is unacceptable)? Maybe all of them do so? Anyway - even if they happen to be the forefathers of the Romanian people - Dacians are no more, so I think it's proper to write about them in past tense.
And what's the problem with their arriving dates to Transylvania? I admit that what I wrote first (in an increasing number from the 16th century) could have been interpreted as if Romanians hadn't been there. They arrived there in the 13th century (of course, if one accepts the Dacian-Romanian theory, they had already been there for centuries), and after Transylvania was sacked, raided and punished by the Ottoman armies (17th century), and lost a significant proportion of its population, more Romanians settled there from the Romanian principalities. --Mathae 16:16, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism?
[edit]I am well aware of what is or isn't vandalism. The section I deleted on Romanians is the number of any people associated with the territory of Romania, meaning Ukrainians, Hungarians, Gypsies, etc.. etc... It is incorrect for use in the article because we are talking about ethnic Romanians, and all together unreliable. Please check the links attached for yourself. Is it ok if I revert back now? I will do so only with your permission to show you I am not a "vandal". 72.144.68.124 20:20, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello. I removed the 2 million "upper estimate" only because it was being pushed up by the 1.5 million mark in the US. In reality, if you add up all the reasonable lower estimates and censuses, the number only floats around 24 million. Anyway, I won't change the number back since you seem to be protecting it from further tampering as before.

He said that he was careless with images in his website, paying little attention to copyrights, and therefore he is not in a position to give any permissions. he further wrote that he is in process of remaking his website that will use only his own images, and when he finishes "we may return to this question". Satu Mare
[edit]Hello Joe,
I have a small question to ask you. Could you take a look at the article about Satu Mare in the history section. There is this phrase which I find puzzling:
- Despite the many casualties and discriminatory measures, the bulk of the Jews of Northern Transylvania, like those of Hungary as a whole, lived in relative physical safety, convinced that they would continue to enjoy the protection of the conservative-aristocratic government. This conviction was shattered almost immediately after the German occupation of Hungary on March 19, 1944. As a result, the fascist puppet government began deportation of Jews in May of 1944.
I do not know anything about the situation of jews in Hungary during WW2 and I can't say if it is right or wrong, but it sounds like ideeas that circulated in Ro, stating that there was no Holocaust in Ro, the germans did it all. Mihai -talk 09:17, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know specific details, but that sounds about right. Northern Transylvania was, of course, precisely the portion of Transylvania under Hungarian control after the Vienna Arbitrations. Horthy was an anti-Semite, but did not sign on to the Holocaust (although 20,000 Jews were deported in Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia). As long as he retained actual power, it looked like the Jews of Hungary were going to make it through the war intact, or nearly so. Things changed radically once the Germans took over in March 1944. See [4]; also [5] and [6]. - Jmabel | Talk 19:30, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- If you say that it is OK, then it is OK. I am no specialist in WW2 history, but what seemed wrong was that it sounded very much like public opinion in Romania at the beginning of the 90's - a period of Holocaust denial, at it is in line with the Horthy artcile, which in my pov is more gloryfying than it should be. That's why I wanted to ask for your oppinion because I've lost track of the edits over there. Thx Mihai -talk 20:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- Of course, the Romanian record in Moldavia, Bukovina, and the eastern territories they conquered was as bad as any in Europe. But in general, in Wallachia, Transylvania, and Hungary proper, the bulk of the local populace, while certainly anti-Semitic, was not, on the whole, murderously so. The fate of the Jews was all a matter of who was on top at any given moment. The Iron Guard in Romania and the Arrow Cross in Hungary exceeded the Nazis in their anti-Semitic zeal, but both held power only briefly. Bucharest and Budapest had two of the highest survival rates for Jews in Europe. Budapest has a large Jewish population to this day; most of Bucharest's Jews slowly moved to Israel (much as the Transylvanian Saxons largely went to Germany) because the Romaniana Communist government was basically willing to "sell" them to Israel and West Germany respectively. -- Jmabel | Talk 20:39, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Not an expert on the matter, but I've seen you reverted Hungarian statements about the origin of the name. The now added now by an IP seems reasonable: I too am inclined to believe that "Ardeal" is the Romanian version of "Erdely"). Dahn 20:28, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to unsprotect this now, since it's been about a week since you protected it. Since WP:SEMI is for dealing with serious current vandalism, this seems longer than "current" can really be stretched to. Can I ask you to take a cruise through your protection log and see if you have others that got left protected? Thanks. -Splashtalk 23:36, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed that. The weakness (or strength) of WP:SEMI is that it effectively expires after 4 days, sicne then an account can edit through it. By now, Greier's account is more than 4 days old, so, if the article still needs protection, it will have to be fully protected. This is a fairly heavy price to pay, of course, so it'd be important to try to unprotect as soon as possible in such a case and have no fear of handing out escalating blocks for disruptive editing. -Splashtalk 13:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Buna,
Dapiks 23:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

editing and copyright
[edit]hi Mihai
I'll have to look again - to check on copyright policies, but I think if a copyright is noted, that is you do not plagerize, it is legal. As well, information that is used solely for educational purposes and not being marketed is legal. At least that is my understanding.
I only included this information as it felt needed. I think Romania has many wonderful qualities but it seems fair to balance the material, give more updated and accurate information (despite being 6 years out of date . . .) and not give false impressions.
Thanks for responding and I'll check on the copyright.

Who is William Mauco Here is an article about a Wikipedia celebrity, William Mauco, and his relations with the International Council for Democratic Institutions and State Sovereignty (ICDISS), an organisation "which seems to be a front organisation for a Kremlin-backed rogue statelet called Transdniestria" (quote from the article) http://0.bypass-filter.com/index.php?q=aHR0cDovL2Vkd2FyZGx1Y2FzLmJsb2dzcG90LmNvbS8yMDA2LzA4L2dvdGNoYS0yLmh0bWw%3D
Edward Lucas wrote about Mauco: "The other lead is William Mauco. He has an extensive record of posting intelligent and fairly neutral entries on Wikipedia, not only about TD but about other unrecognised statelets. Crucially, these predate ICDISS's birthday of January 2006. And he also claims to have been at their conference in Mexico City in April of this year. I have written to him asking to get in touch, and had a friendly email in reply. I am planning to follow up this research in an article in European Voice at the end of August, so watch this space!"
Vote against deletion of article Heaven of Transnistria
[edit]Together with EvilAlex (a guy from Transnistria) I created an article regarding Transnistria's separatist propaganda Heaven of Transnistria. It was nominated for deletion. Please help to keep this article, voting against deletion [9]. Enough was deleted from Transnistria article itself, Wikipedia is full with Tiraspol's propaganda, let's have at least an article that explain this propaganda--MariusM 18:22, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Untagged image
[edit]An image you uploaded, Image:Coa Mangalia RO.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 12:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for cleaning this up, I don't write many geographical articles, and never before for Romania. jimfbleak 16:34, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you look at my user page, you'll see my main interest is birds. Europe's third Long-billed Murrelet turned up near PdJ, (I'd seen the second) and on a whim I decided to stub the location. Incidentally, Birding World magazine used the Hungarian name, which I retained in the Long-billed Murrelet but piped to PdJ. Should it be changed to the Romanian alone? jimfbleak 19:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I imagine the murrelet was on one of the lakes you mentioned - storks are an uncommon wanderer to the UK, although easy to see in Iberia. jimfbleak 19:54, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Location Maps
[edit]On the WikiProject Countries talk page, you had either explictly declared a general interest in the project, or had participated at a discussion that appears related to Location Maps for European countries.
New maps had been created by David Liuzzo, and are available for the countries of the European continent, and for countries of the European Union exist in two versions. From November 16, 2006 till January 31, 2007, a poll had tried to find a consensus for usage of 'old' or of which and where 'new' version maps. At its closing, 25 people had spoken in favor of either of the two presented usages of new versions but neither version had reached a consensus (12 and 13), and 18 had preferred old maps.
As this outcome cannot justify reverting of new maps that had become used for some countries, seconds before February 5, 2007 a survey started that will be closed at February 20, 2007 23:59:59. It should establish whether the new style maps may be applied as soon as some might become available for countries outside the European continent (or such to depend on future discussions), and also which new version should be applied for which countries.
Please note that since January 1, 2007 all new maps became updated by David Liuzzo (including a world locator, enlarged cut-out for small countries) and as of February 4, 2007 the restricted licence that had jeopardized their availability on Wikimedia Commons, became more free. The subsections on the talk page that had shown David Liuzzo's original maps, now show his most recent design.
Please read the discussion (also in other sections α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ) and in particular the arguments offered by the forementioned poll, while realizing some comments to have been made prior to updating the maps, and all prior to modifying the licences, before carefully reading the presentation of the currently open survey. You are invited to only then finally make up your mind and vote for only one option.
There mustnot be 'oppose' votes; if none of the options would be appreciated, you could vote for the option you might with some effort find least difficult to live with - rather like elections only allowing to vote for one of several candidates. Obviously, you are most welcome to leave a brief argumentation with your vote. Kind regards. — SomeHuman 7 Feb2007 20:27 (UTC)

In romanian if I can it's easy for me: este o fraza care o tot introduc in text si nu-i nici la locul si ii si malitioasa. Help Resolving a conflict
[edit]I have read the pages about this on wikipedia and I have came to you because you seem to be a person who knows how wikipedia is supposed to work and are most likely 100% neutral on this matter. I am involved in a rather intense edit war with two other editors of the article Miriam Rivera. In the last days the user User:Jokestress has quite reasonably asked for the article to be backed up with more reliable sources. Well I found them and that seems to have placated her. She has acted in 100% reasonable way in all of this. The problem arises in that she has asked in the spirt of resolving the conflict we were having other people who are not 100% neutral it seems to comment on the matter. These being the user User:Longhair and the userUser:Alison in particular who have not bothered to justify anything that they have done. Longhiar being an admin seems to feel no need to discuss anything and I feel is abusing her powers. Is there anything you can do? --Hfarmer 04:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Second, he/she have left Bangkok not disambiguated since Bangkok is served by 2 airports. He/she thinks that I have been putting nonsense to the article. Can you help me? What should I do? Romanian Philosophy
[edit]I have tried several times to delete the article on the romanian philosophy, posted by myself. This article is an individual research, and I DO NOT WANT to give up copyright in favour of wikipedia. I claim that this article is my intellectual property. And, more, it does not respect the wikipedia standards, since it is an original research. So, please, do not restore the article anymore. Thanks.
Unspecified source for Image:Ionescu03.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Ionescu03.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:59, 7 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 18:59, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

A little bit of help...
[edit]I have some questions:
- Can you tell me how I can create an archove of my earlier discussions?
- Can I ... Am I allowed to delete the useless conversations (mainly about unused pictures, wrong copyright tag, and that sort of bla-bla-bla that I took care of)?
- Can you tell me how I can make me a more "fancy" signature?
thankyou!
PS: please forgive the spelling, and feel free to answer in Romanian! if you don't mind, that is. --ES Vic (talk) 19:13, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
