NSBM Page move request

I think that National School of Business Management page should move to NSBM Green University because of it is the most common and widely used name. Please check it and resolve this. If you can please add page move protection also. Thank you. --175.157.47.138 (talk) 05:03, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

S Dharmaretnam Article - Inaccuracies in sources

The articles by D B S Jeyaraj [2] and that by V Sivasubramaniam [3] contain a number of inaccuracies. I have corrected one - Dharmaretnam was an only child as attested to by his relatives. However, there is no other publication that refers to this fact. Fergusons directories from the early 1900's show Dharmaretnam's family members owning lands from Verugal to Pottuvil. Also, he was in the State Council till 1947 as confirmed in the Fergusons directory of 1947. Sherlock1898 (talk) 16:01, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Verifiability is one of Wikipedia's core content policies. Editors of Wikipedia articles should provide inline citations so that other people using Wikipedia can check that the information comes from reliable sources. Simply stating that a relative of the subject has told you something isn't good enough - this is an encyclopedia and your contributions must meet the standard of an encyclopedia.--Obi2canibe (talk) 10:22, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
I do understand the concept of verifiability but when the source quoted has a known inaccuracy how do we correct it, especially, when it is to prove that he had no brother? Hence, my change from "brother" to "relatives". Appreciate your help on this? Sherlock1898 (talk) 12:46, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
You need to start a discussion on the talk page and provide your sources. If other editors agree that your sources are more credible than the existing source(s) then the content in the article can be changed.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:30, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

You have added maintenance templates to many Sri Lanka realted pages in Wikipedia, as you did to H. W. Amarasuriya recently, without resolving the problems that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the requirement of that template in the talk page of those articles. Your addition of these templates do not appear to be constructive, since you have not made any effort to resolve the issues you have identified in any of those articles. Why don't you do it by your self ?. Atleast be more cooperative in improving these pages and please give your suggessions in the respective talk pages on how to improve those pages / resolve issues rather than just tagging and going away. Thank you.---LahiruG talk 09:24, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Tagging articles for issues is good practice. It warns readers who may not be familiar of Wikipedia policies that there there are issues with articles. Indeed, as part of reviewing new articles, editors are encouraged to add maintenance tags.
No editor is obliged to clean up mess left by other editors. A reason for adding the maintenance template is only required when the problem isn't obvious. In the case of H. W. Amarasuriya it is obvious that the article needs more inline citations. It is a relatively large article but has very few inline citations. There are three paragraphs, including the largest paragraph, that do not have any inline citations. The article is in such a poor state that it doesn't even qualify as a class C article. If you want to see examples of properly cited articles have a look at Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Leslie Goonewardene - virtually every sentence is cited. Both articles have been recognised for their good quality.
Please remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and has standards. This may be an alien concept to you.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:49, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
Instead of answering my question you have made a personal attack, which must be not alien to you ? My question is Why don't you do it by your self ?. Tagging articles for issues may be a good practice, if it is done with genuine intentions. But you have never ever tried to improve those articles by your self ? What is the reason behind it ? If you think there are certain paragraphs or sentences that need to be cited you can simply ask for citations at the end of those, rather than tagging the entire article. If you look at this article, there are 15 references with many inline citations. There are no such rule in WP stating that every article must be a good article with every sentence having inline citations. I have looked at some of the pages you have edited over the years which do not have sufficient citations. I think you don't have a consistent policy for tagging articles due to a conflict of interest.--LahiruG talk 10:38, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Please re-read my reply above - no editor is obliged to clean up the mess left by other editors but it is good practice to warn readers who may not be aware of Wikipedia's policies that the article in question has issues and that they should take care and not take its contents at face value. You are correct that not every article needs to be a good article but verifiability is one of Wikipedia's core content policies and any content that isn't backed up with inline citation may be removed. In the case of H. W. Amarasuriya that means the overwhelming majority of the content including three whole paragraphs.--Obi2canibe (talk) 15:05, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
There only two paragraphs without citations in H. W. Amarasuriya page and i will fix those issues when I find suitable references in the future. No editor may be obliged to clean up the mess left by other editors, but it is a good practice if you can atleast try solve issues in atleast 20 % of the aricles you have tagged for citations over the years. I am afraid you have never ever tried to that, rather than just tagging and running away. As an experienced eitor you must be aware of Wikipedia:Drive by tagging, which clealry states, that if there is a problem in a page why don't you try to fix it ? Since no one owns wikipedia pages it is indeed a good practice if you can solve issues in pages instead of just using tags to stealthily reduce the spirit of hard working very few volunteers who edits Sri Lanka related pages in WP. --LahiruG talk 09:48, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
There is no requirement for editors to solve at least 20 % of the article's issues. WP:SOFIXIT relates asking others to fix issues, not adding maintenance templates. I have not asked anyone to fix the issue. I have placed the maintenance template to warn readers that the article does not meet Wikipedia's standards and that they should take its content with caution. And WP:SOFIXIT does not over-ride WP:CHOICE.WP:DRIVEBY relates to non-obvious problems. In the case of H. W. Amarasuriya, the problems are obvious - the article is in an awful state.
BTW, the time you've spent here moaning and whining about me placing the maintenance template on an article about an Old Mahindian could have been better spent actually adding inline citations to that article and bringing it up to standard.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:56, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
