Delsorts
I'm not going to get into an edit war about this, if you really want them listed there I won't revert again. But that page is pretty obviously only for association football (aka soccer) articles. Note from the top of the page "This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Football (soccer)" (emphasis theirs) and that it is a part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Football and no other projects. Jenks24 (talk) 09:26, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of an active AfD by Nom
Northamerica1000, User:TheGracefulSlick started Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/June 2017 Brussels attack two days ago. A number of editors had weighed in, most opining Keep. (As is frequently the case on AfDs regarding terrorist attack, Graceful Slick and I disagreed). Nevertheless, I was shocked when she suddenly closed the AfD with the comment: "The result was Unfortunately, all this AFD has accomplished is attract WP:SYNTH. I think it is best to close this instead in hopes of ending the degrading of an already newsy article. Nomination withdrawn." I advised her to restore the AfD. [4]. She erased my comment from her talk page. What is the proper procedure in such a case?E.M.Gregory (talk) 01:21, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
- As I stated, the discussion and the article were derailed by the arrival of synthed material. The same editor consistently adds material that misrepresents the sources in the midst of AFDs. Therefore, I saw the AFD as detrimental to whatever material left that could actually be salvaged if there was a merge or redirect (editing history would still exist). I wanted to address the synthed material and I am sure Pincrete -- the only other editor to !vote delete at the time -- will not mind; in fact, he may even thank me for closing the discussion before more misrepresented content was included in the article as he usually is the one tasked with cleaning it up.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 01:29, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
- @E.M.Gregory and TheGracefulSlick: Since TheGracefulSlick initiated the discussion, and a delete !vote exists in the discussion, it should have been closed by an uninvolved user, and allowed to run for the full standard seven days before closure. Also, in the close, TheGracefulSlick stated that the nomination was withdrawn, but the outstanding delete !vote inhibits closing the discussion as withdrawn, although it is okay to withdraw in a comment. North America1000 06:28, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'll keep that in mind from now on. Thanks. I believed the synth needed to be immediately addressed before the fate of the article could be ruled upon. I probably should have foreseen such issues to arise during the AFD so I will be more cautious in a similar situation.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 08:30, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

- Hi Northamerica1000. Apologies that I recently removed two unused citations from the article To'ak Chocolate. The unused citations had caused cite errors, but with hindsight they should not have been removed. The content was not promotional and in my view this is a completely valid article. Adelaide Festival of Ideas
I see you removed the COI tag from the Adelaide Festival of Ideas article. The reason there's no discussion on the article's talk page is that when I added the tag, I raised the issue directly with the editor concerned on his own talk page. If you'd checked the article history, you would have seen that in his first edit summary, the editor stated: This is the first part of a major update of this page. (I am on the Board of AFOI Inc and have had a major role in running the AFOI since 2009). Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 22:20, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Bahudhara: Have you considered adding this information to the article's talk page? Readers and editors are much more likely to see this information there. Also, do you feel that the article needs cleanup at this time to address COI concerns? North America1000 22:21, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

November 2017
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on To'ak Chocolate. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Meters (talk) 01:21, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
You have now added that material four times. It was challenged and you were asked to discuss it on the talk page per WP:BRD. Either do so so that editors can reach consensus on whether to include the material, or leave it out.
- No edit warring here. The content added (diff) improves the article, whereas its omission makes the article inferior. I waited for many days before restoring this quite minor, yet relevant content. Nobody has objected on the article talk page, so, please consider actually discussing the matter on the article's talk page, rather than sending me blank, accusatory template messages about collaborating with others, when no collaboration is present. North America1000 01:28, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Update: Another user restored the aforementioned content (diff). So, please discuss on the article's talk page instead at this point. See also: WP:BRD. This keeps commentary about topics in one area. Thanks, North America1000 01:38, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- My apologies. I missed the fact that you had previously mentioned a reason for the material but it had not been responded to. I have to say that I don't agree that the article needs a description of how chocolate is made. There is nothing in that description, as far as I can see, that is different from any other chocolate. Why would we include it in tthis article? Meters (talk) 01:42, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- I provided a response at the article talk page. North America1000 01:54, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Would you mind my putting in a suggst for you to consider on this one? Since this was closed with no consensus and had no relists that letting this run for a week or so longer might have been applicable given that the regulars had weighed in and the coast was therefore clear for uninvolved users to opine and thus obtain consensus? I'm happy to leave this to you to decide, but just wanted to offer some food for thought. I have no plans for a DRV if you disagree. Thanks. Spartaz Humbug! 08:11, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Spartaz: I don't know. The discussion received ample input, particularly per today's rates of participation at AfD, and there really is no consensus in the discussion. If I were to reopen per this request, I could receive some flak from the community, essentially for reopening per a request from the op that may be hoping for more delete !votes to occur (no offense intended toward you, this is just how others could perceive this). That all said, it is a classic case of the SNG vs GNG, and WP:PORNSTAR does not state that such subjects are presumed notable, as exists on others, such as WP:NOLYMPICS. Let me know what you think about all of this. North America1000 10:59, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
- Personally, I think that [[5]] makes it clear that keep arguments based on technical pornbio passes get much less weight if the article fails gng. On that basis, the invalid keep votes here should get less weight and the discussion was tending to delete. I personally feel allowing more time to discuss and possibly find sources ( or most likely not) is better than a redo in 4 weeks. YMMV. I respect your decision either way. Spartaz Humbug! 17:51, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Question about copyvio
If a new article is 96%+ suspected copyvio of a section in an existing article, should it be considered an "ok" spin-off, or should it be speedy deleted? I see in the article's history that a redirect was involved but can't tell how it originated, etc. The comparison. I just tagged it for AfD which is how I learned about the copy vio. Atsme📞📧 18:41, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- If proper attribution has been given (which I see it now has been) then it is not a copyvio, but a copy/paste move with attribution, which is perfectly acceptable per the license that Wikipedia gives to its content. Primefac (talk) 18:50, 13 November 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

Trying to reditect the talk page for my old username talk page after password loss
My former username is It3xfast but the password was lost and I had no email connected to recover it. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User_talk:It3xfast
I've tried to do a redirect for my old username talk page but I'm doing it wrong and not sure how to do it properly even after reading up on it. I understand you are only on here from time to time and may not be able to help me but I contacted you because you did some edits on the page I created. Any help appreciated whenever you are available. ItThreeTimesFast (talk) 08:57, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi ItThreeTimesFast: You could just leave matters as-is. You have stated matters on your new User talk page, so maybe that's good enough. However, if you really want to redirect, just blank the old page at User talk:It3xfast and add to it atop: #REDIRECT [[User talk:ItThreeTimesFast]]. This will redirect to your new page. It is unlikely that anyone will object to the redirection, particularly since you have provided information about the old account on your new page. North America1000 09:04, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
OK. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it. ItThreeTimesFast (talk) 09:58, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
Question
Where do I file an inappropriate non-admin closure of an AfD that was closed as a SNOW KEEP after only 4 days? I find the DR site rather confusing - lots of instruction but no clue where to file. I would like for the close to be investigated for improprieties and then reopened. Thanks in advance. Atsme📞📧 01:07, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Atsme: I don't know which discussion you're referring to, so can't check at this time. I recommend discussing the matter with the closer, and if you still feel that it was improperly closed and the closer won't reopen it, you can file a report at Deletion review. A barnstar for you!

I’m new to AfC submission reviewing, and so far on every page I’ve accepted you have come in and made very helpful maintenance-related edits. Thank’s for your contributions! Adotchar| reply here 22:17, 23 November 2017 (UTC) |
- Thanks Adotchar: I routinely patrol AfC pages that are moved into main namespace. They are a lot easier to find when first published compared to when they have been in place for awhile. Thanks again for the star. North America1000 22:47, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Joseph Montfort
Hi NorthAmerica, I have sent the copyright allowance for the text that i am the copyright holder for. The page Joseph Montfort's text was from my website www.theojohns.com and it states to paste this in the talk page. {{OTRS pending|year=2017|month=November|day=25}} Please take a look and lets get this page back up and running. Many thanks, Theodore Johns a.k.a. Kerkyra22 (talk) 12:44, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

- Nb. Hi Kerkyra22 and TonyBallioni: I'm not an OTRS user, so I will defer this matter to TonyBallioni per his above message that he has handled it. I noticed that the article (Joseph Montfort) is back up, so perhaps this matter is resolved? North America1000 00:20, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yes. Just as a note for you if there are questions about restoring other revisions: only the first revision contains entirely free text. The subsequent revisions were not restored because they contained non-free text in addition to the text that was released under a compatible license via OTRS. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:36, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- TonyBallioni: Thanks for keeping me in the loop. From my end, this matter appears to have been thoroughly addressed. North America1000 02:39, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

The Speedy Keeps
Hi Northamerica1000, nice work speedy keeping those articles I nominated. Perhaps you are right, in that my rationale wasn't quite enough to justify a discussion. I just wanted to ask if you would care to take a momentary glance at each article and deduce whether they in fact do have enough issues to justify an AFD nomination. Rather than shutting down the noms completely, perhaps we may just change the nom rationale?--Coin945 (talk) 02:03, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Coin945: Many Wikipedia articles are unsourced, but per WP:NEXIST, this does not equate with automatic non-notability. If you are interested in assessing notability, I seriously recommend using procedures described at WP:BEFORE, particularly the source searching recommendations. If you feel that these topics lack notability, feel free to re-nominate, but again, I recommend WP:BEFORE. You may also want to read WP:AFDISNOTCLEANUP, part of an essay page. North America1000 02:05, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- So an article listing characters in a television series is worthy of a speedy keep, when the TV series article itself doesn't justify notability,? Perhaps the keeps were a tad too hasty? It seems a change in rationale is the key here. :)--Coin945 (talk) 02:13, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hasty, I don't think so. The closures were wholly appropriate relative to the nominations, which lacked valid rationales for deletion. See WP:DEL-REASON for examples of valid deletion rationales. North America1000 02:17, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Agree with North America's rationale. kitten stalker - meowr! Coolabahapple (talk) 06:43, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

Holiday Extras
user:davidcowell42
Hello northamerica1000,
I see that the Holiday Extras' entry has been deleted despite my request for time to fully respond to an editors' properly raised concerns. I am advised by the site guidelines to contact you, as the deleting editor, before proceeding in other ways. The Wikipedia guidelines on the subject of deletion state:
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations on the course of action to be taken that are not sustained by arguments.
- When making your case or responding to others, explain how the article meets/violates policy rather than merely stating that it meets/violates the policy.
Only two editors provided any cogent arguments and I responded to the first and asked for a sustainable argument though none was forthcoming. I asked the second to give me 48 hours to respond. You chose to make the deletion before that 48 hours had expired.
So I can provide a balanced approach to my appeal process can you explain why you felt, particularly in the light of the guidelines quoted above, that such action was appropriate?
Many thanks
User:davidcowell.net
Davidcowell42 (talk) 14:03, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Davidcowell42: The deletion discussion was relisted for a full seven days, and consensus in the discussion was clearly for deletion as per the article having a promotional tone and for not meeting notability standards. Various types of opinions were stated by users qualifying deletion, and I believe that virtually any administrator would agree with the delete result.
- However, I can WP:USERFY the deleted article to your user space, such as to User:Davidcowell42/Holiday Extras, if you feel that copy editing the content can serve to provide a non-promotional article that meets notability standards.
- If you would like userfication, work on the content, and then want to publish it in main (article) namespace again, I recommend that you submit it to Articles for creation, where your submission can be reviewed. An easy way to do this is to place {{Userspace draft}} atop the draft page and then select the "Submit your draft for review" link. North America1000 03:29, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Hello Northamerica1000:
Thank you for your prompt reply. I suspect an appeal process will prove difficult so yes please to your suggestion that you WP:USERFY it. I worked hard with your editor colleagues before it was submitted so to help me understand the areas of contention because of non compliance with guidelines could you give me a couple of examples of where it has a promotional tone.
Any help really appreciated.
Kind regards
David

ANI Experiences survey
Beginning on November 28, 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) will be conducting a survey to en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:
If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be mailed to you via Special:Emailuser.

Hello Northamerica1000 from freezing Scotland. I never noticed this article didn't have inline citations. I can't believe it. I was trying to figure out what your message meant and took me about 2 minutes to realize what it meant. Administrators' newsletter – December 2017
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).
- Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
- The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.
