STALEDRAFT

  • When looking at the drafts, it is rather self-explanatory why they are problematic, as in that they are virtually certain to never have a place in main namespace as an actual article, or used as content elsewhere. North America1000 13:14, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Displaying the EotW infobox

As you can see at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention the current "eddybox " is shown for the current recipient of the Award. The same should be true at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week. But that is not the case. Could you check and see what the hang-up is? Thanks for what you're doing to improve WER. ―Buster7  15:48, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Also, I've been reviewing the archives and I occasionally run across nice things you say about me, which I very much appreciate. Let me return the good wishes! ―Buster7  23:58, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Hello Buster7 Upon a brief inspection, I've narrowed it down to this so far:
  • On the project's main page, the eddybox is a part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/header page, which is transcluded onto the main page. On this header page, {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Hall of Fame/2017-07-16}} is listed at the bottom, which produces the box at the right via transclusion with the present award recipient.

  • When going to edit the Editor of the Week page, the following is present at bottom:
    --></noinclude>{{<includeonly>safesubst:</includeonly>Wikipedia:WikiProject_Editor_Retention/Editor_of_the_Week/Hall_of_Fame/2017-07-09}}<noinclude>
  • It appears that the date on the Editor of the Week page is not being updated as appears to be occurring on the Header page, hence the older award recipient being listed. So, this needs to somehow be standardized to list the most current recipient on both pages. It's unclear to me how the dates are being updated; upon reviewing various page Revision histories, it does not appear to be done manually every week.

I think This diff should fix the problem. I will include these changes in the future manual updates that will happen each Sunday after the Award is dispersed. ―Buster7  06:59, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Using COI tag

Hi. I think I need a bit of a refresher on using the COI tag on an article as I did on Making Tax Digital when I accepted it through AfC. A google search showed that the creator of the article has a connection with the company. I tagged their user talk page accordingly: User_talk:Tomsmccallum1. Is the COI tag not appropriate in a case like that and what should I be writing on the article talk page? I am mindful of not 'outing' the person by providing too much extra info. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 18:00, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

  • Hello Curb Safe Charmer: Well, the easiest way to go about it is to follow the guidelines at Template:COI, specifically the When to use section there. If you feel that the article is biased per a conflict of interest, then place the template and explain your rationale on the talk page (note that on the template page, it states, "...if you place this tag, you should promptly start a discussion on the article's talk page to explain what is non-neutral about the article"). Of note is that on the COI page, it also states, "Like the other {{POV}} tags, this tag is not meant to be a badge of shame or to "warn the reader" about the identities of the editors." Per this, if you choose to add the template, you should definitely keep this in mind. North America1000 19:23, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Also, there's the {{Connected contributor}} template that can be used atop article talk pages. North America1000 19:36, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Also of importance is that it states on the COI template page, "Be careful not to violate the policy against WP:OUTING users who have not publicly self-disclosed their identities on the English Wikipedia." North America1000 19:38, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Huli-huli chicken

Hello Northamerica1000, I've just made a much more complete article on huli-huli chicken in my user space. Right here is a diff of the current article, and right here is the page I've made. RfA Cullen328

As one can see from my !vote there, I did not argue on replying or not, but commented especially to a specific wording ("take care"), easily interpretable as a caveat. In spite of opposing to all the PC-derived crap of urbanity, civility, safety of spaces, ... I still try to adhere to a higher level of sensitivity, more fully de rigeur, than what I perceived from the verbiage of an admin to be. Of course, I never intended to be kidding. Purgy (talk) 10:48, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

  • It comes across that you read way too far into the two words "take care", and in an entirely negative manner, for whatever reasons. "Take care" is typically used in the context of extending good intentions, rather than bad ones. No offense, but I'd prefer not to to discuss this further; I'm working on improving some articles and other matters right now. North America1000 11:34, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Please review

...this. I don't want to be contentious. Also, I would like any advice that you feel I need to have. The Best of Regards,

Barbara (WVS)   23:20, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
@Barbara (WVS): I also don't think the term "non-medical" is needed on the template at all. It comes across as a solution for a problem that does not exist. Wording of the template should not reflect whether or not an article is medicine-related, imo. That said, if WP:MEDICINE folks don't want the template on medicine-related article talk pages, then fine, don't use it. North America1000 16:26, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
I am a WP:Medicine and continually reverted. Like I said, I don't want to be contentious. Other projects also 'claim' articles and talk pages that belong to project Medicine. Do I need to get consensus from each and every project on which the search template appears? I'll redo the template for the editor who changed it so that the 'new template' for project med is more to their preference. Thanks very much for you opinion on this. Best Regards
Barbara (WVS)   17:49, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
@Barbara (WVS): I've never had an issue with a consensus being needed to place the Friendly search suggestions template before on any articles. I don't see a need to start asking every project about it; rather, it could be considered on a case-by-case basis per each article, if the matter comes up. Regarding medicine-related articles, if others don't want it on medicine-related articles, perhaps simply refrain from adding it to said talk pages. Aah, the WP:MEDRS thing just keeps going on and on. North America1000 17:59, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
I redid the template for proj med. We can all have what we need/want. Here is the revision for proj med:

{{Friendly search suggestions for med talk pages}}

If I propose ideas/changes, consensus is not what happens. Barbara (WVS)   18:08, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

@Barbara (WVS): Hopefully that will work out. I added a link to the new template at Template:Friendly search suggestions (diff) and vice-versa (link). North America1000 19:08, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank you so very much. I don't think you realize how glad I have you as my (template) mentor.
The Highest Regards, Barbara (WVS)   19:44, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

It's the sort of East-meets-West thing that falls into the same niche as Great Leap Brewing (Beijing's first craft brewery, run by a US expat and his Chinese wife), which I made a point of visiting so I could take the pictures and write about it. DYK for Pizza in China

On 29 July 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Pizza in China, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the increased prominence of pizza in China had the secondary effect of introducing Chinese consumers to cheese as a culinary ingredient? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Pizza in China. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Pizza in China), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

  • @M.R.Forrester: Thanks very much. I didn't know a great deal about the topic prior to creating the article, and it's a pleasure how Wikipedia can improve one's own knowledge as well as the knowledge of others in the process of publishing articles. Glad you enjoyed the article. North America1000 13:28, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi. You're my go-to editor when it comes to food and drink. Whenever I'm doing NPP, if there is an article which might be deleted due to lack of citations, etc., I attempt to find sources to shore it up. However, on this article, I can't find a single thing. Thoughts? Onel5969 TT me 17:18, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, NA... yes, seems to be a variant for the same term. Onel5969 TT me 18:59, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

You left a note about a list of holidays up for deletion. It's a red link. Can you correct it?  — Myk Streja (who,me?) 02:54, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Myk Streja: I put that red link there as a suggestion for perhaps a new deletion sorting page to be created. I have done this before (place a red link), which resulted in another user creating a delsort page, but I don't remember which one. I would rather leave it to another user to create the page, which would further demonstrate an interest in one existing, in addition to your message here. North America1000 23:27, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
