Official Navy Document Dates

You posted" "The convention at the time" Can not have been to have 1/2 the dates in one style, 1/2 in another...)" Actually, I have the original handwritten documents in my possession and yes, they did vary. Where I have entered items in blockquotes, it is a transcription of the document containing misspellings, contractions, different date conventions, etc... This item is from Naval Officer Records over 150 years old, that is how they wrote back then. 10th April 1839, Reappointed Ben F.B. Hunter 20th Aug 1835. August 20th 1835 appointed5. Nov. 12th to the Warren 547. Oct. 10th 37 Resign. accepted 31, March 22 39 Reinstated and hold in readiness for active service 173. March 28th 39 to the Constitution (at Norfolk) April 11th to the Constitution at N.Y. 189. Also, one warrant was dated and signed by President Martin Van Buren, I would not presume to change that

North American Financial Holdings

This article makes the case for a Raleigh headquarters. Yet this does not. However, I'd like someone to look at it and make sure the statements in the article can still be considered accurate. I'm not clear on what to say because technically, the bank and the holding company could have two different headquarters.

As for what to call the article, I started it intending to write about NAFH, which didn't own Capital at the time. I'm not sure the name "Capital Bank (North Carolina)" is what we want when the holding company was the subject of the article.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 13:36, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

I didn't specifically want them renamed, just noticed that they had generic names! And I've no idea what to call them though a couple do look like they're possibly useful... In my opinion, it's much better than the purple one, but still not much better than the original. I'm saying this mainly due to the sky again, which is now an unnatural blue colour. the building does look better, however. Can you maybe adjust one while leaving the other alone? I noticed that you changed my rating of start-class on this article to stub. The thing that confuses me is that in the edit where you changed my re-rating of start-class you give the summary: "rvt project importance assessments made by inexperienced editor"? You figured you were re-rating it from User:The Companion right? As it is, it looks like you meant me. I've changed back to start-class, which I think the article is based on refs 2 and 4 being verifiable (enough to avoid blp-prod) and that it gives some useful info and basically conforms to the requirements of start-class. I don't know what you mean. You reverted to a version of the page that didn't have a wp:poetry tag (as you can see if you scroll down in the "I didn't touch" link you just gave above). Per WP:FMV please do not forget to replace the old name with the new name on articles where the moved file had been used. Hi Hanham123. I take it you mean the Varosha, Famagusta page? Your reversal has since been reverted by User:Seric2. This is as Wikipedia is not a collection of external links (see the guideline here: WP:LINKSPAM) and an image gallery hosted on a car hire site isn't what we want for the external links section. Hi Nik, yes correct it is the Varosha, Famagusta page . The link is much more than just an image gallery, the page links to a full section on Varosha including a personal interview and account of somebody who was displaced. http://www.rhinocarhire.com/The-Varosha-Blog/A-Personal-Account-of-the-1974-Invasion.aspx . The editor who did this work is based in Cyprus and is always updating the pages with new information. I would ask that you reconsider as feel the page is of genuine use and a valuable source of information, the fact it is hosted on a car hire site should have little bearing. If used to support a statement as an in-line citation, I'm sure that link would not a problem. As per the policy cited above; as an "External link", it is a problem. Also, the fact that it's on a car hire site is genuinely a problem - if we direct internet traffic to that site, we could be inadvertently promoting it above other other, similar, resources. Avalone is so prolific under so many pseudonyms -- sharing similar trivia with fellow enthusiasts is one of joys of editing Wiki and GoodReads. Hardcopy citations are a big challenge in our internet age. My sandbox has started an entry for George Goodchild, an older popular writer even in films that I cannot polish for submission. Given the other two "Gang with No Name" books are completely notable, I'd say in this instance that this article should be improved as a standalone article, rather than changed to an overall one... You recently removed an edit I made to this article, as it was not sourced. I find some of the technicalities of editing Wikipedia a bit confusing, especially when it comes to sourcing, so I usually leave someone else to source the additions that I make. Hi George. I did look for sources for this from independent, third-party sources; which, given this is about a BBC show, the bbc.co.uk/programmes link is certainly not. Additionally, those programmes/FOO URLs appear to only last so long, and as such this link will certainly be dead within a short time. Hence my removal of your edit! Should you wish this to be re-added, please feel free to do so with a third-party source confirming it - like something from a newspaper or on the bbc.co.uk/news domain (or provide me with such information!). But, if this isn't a 'third-party source' (I don't really understand the way sources work, as I explained), then I don't see what source I can find. Newspapers don't announce what is on Book at Bedtime, except in 'What's on' columns or whatever. I don't see why this source isn't good enough. Surely the whole point of sources is to prove that a piece of information is accurate, and this piece of information clearly is accurate. I'm not vandalising Wikipedia, I'm adding a useful piece of information which is quite clearly accurate. The article has information about the publication history, including the audiobook, so why not the radio adaptation? I think there needs to be some level of flexibility and editors need to be given the benefit of the doubt sometimes, otherwise it entirely defeats the object of having a database that can be edited by anyone. If rules have to be stuck to this thoroughly, then it might as well only be possible for the staff to edit it. (I'm not saying there shouldn't be rules, but they need to be flexible.)

I've explained why the source isn't good for two reasons (that link provided aired Fri 22 Jun 2012...) Check out WP:IRS for help with reliable sources. Also, check out the other sources in the article - the information there is supported by a source independent from the subject. If no-one is reporting on this adaptation in any way, no reviews or mentions in articles, then the adaptation isn't notable enough information to be included in the article. Additionally, check out these links for examples of third-party sources covering "Book at bedtime" shows: 1, 2 (although BBC, this is a news item), 3. Nikthestoned 17:19, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

I'd like to point out in response to that that with that rule, none of the information under 'Plot' should be on the article, because that can only be sourced from the book itself, which is not a third-party source independent from the subject. I don't actually think that, I am merely using it as an example to point out how ludicrous that rule makes things. As for finding another source, there is a website called radio4bore, which talks about everything on Book at Bedtime... but I'm not sure if that should be used, as it is a blog and I know Wikipedia doesn't usually use blogs as sources. Should I use it?

I have to say that I'm not desperately impressed with the way that you've handled this actually. It's all very well and good showing that a piece of information is accurate and reliable, and I try to do that; however, you seem to be more interested in blindly following rules than exhibiting any common sense, and that is not a sustainable way to run a great project like Wikipedia, the whole point of which is everyone editing as a community. Actually, the point about plot is covered in guidelines somewhere lol - though I don't know where offhand. If this wasn't a good article, I'd add a {{Citation needed}} tag and leave it in. Hi Steve. So you know, I've now removed it once more. Given you've had a couple of experienced editors remove this twice, not sure why you put it back a third time without waiting for a reply, but whatever. As per the talk page discussion you've been directed to, the information was overly (or even massively) detailed for what should be on a Wikipedia article. You also need to take a look the article guidelines for schools and the guidelines on promotional writing. Lastly, I take it from your name that you're the percussionist on the band. Thanks for your comments. The "Minstrels" were a much loved Cincinnati tradition and were highly acclaimed in their day. I have tried to support my statements with footnotes. Do you have any suggestions for exactly what was out of line?

Hi. Let's start with line 1 (bad = anything in italic): "The school was particularly well known for its annual production of the perennially popular, nationally known" - this is massively promotional and is filled with puffery, neither of which is acceptable on Wikipedia. Let's have a look at sentence 2: "Created by the school’s band director, a 22 year-old charismatically gifted musician, George G. Smith IV, “The Minstrels”, as it was known, would run for 35 years, under "Smittie’s" direction, while he and his wife, Thelma, nurtured the hopes and dreams of thousands of talented students" - again, much puffery etc. Additionally, it's conversational in tone as opposed to encyclopaedic. I'm not going to go on as this was easily enough to revert your promotional rewrite. You've done the same again, so I'm going to revert again. Please read the article guidelines about WP:PUFFERY, WP:TONE and WP:PROMO before re-adding, taking note of the Article guidelines for schools also. Nope, still fails to meet all of the above. I think what would be better here is if you created an article for the Withrow Mistrels themselves, possibly through [[wp::AFC|articles for creation]] and linked it to the High Schools page. That way the article on the school isn't constantly in a state of change and can indeed be about the school itself.
