Requesting help
Hi, I was told that you are good with references so I'm asking for help. Would this site be considered a reliable source for List of Case Closed episodes (season 1)? And if not, could you provide a reliable source for the airdates? Thank you. DragonZero (talk) 08:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- It appears to be reliable based on comparison to Animage. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:17, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I need some help again. I was asked to prove the site to be a reliable source, how would I do so? DragonZero (talk) 07:27, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

- Hi again. I've been told that because it is not an official fan site it is not a reliable source. If it really is an unreliable source, could you provide me with Animage sources for the season one episodes? DragonZero (talk) 19:42, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm checking with other people at WT:ANIME to see if we can deem it a reliable source due to what I've been able to determine. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:08, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Question
Hi, Nihonjoe. Are edits like this and this kosher? I thought the "nihongo" templates took care of whatever issues this tag addresses... Either way, looks like to me like just another clean-up box/tag to make articles look bad... Wiki-sanctioned graffiti... Dekkappai (talk) 02:04, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know if they are sanctioned by the Torah or blessed by a rabbi, but I've reverted them as there isn't really any need for them due to the {{nihongo}} template. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:17, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

This word....
Would "Ja Nai" be considered one word or two? And would both be capitalized or not. The reason I ask is because on this article I have "Ja Nai" separated and capitalized and I like to know which is correct. Thanks. 月 (Moon)と暁 (Sunrise) 00:31, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

How is adding a completely unrelated TV-series (in this case: Police Academy: The Animated Series) to a lot of articles with apparently no connection constructive? Gsmgm (talk) 18:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- All of the articles to which that was added were connected: each of those voice actors played a part in that series (as the addition showed). Question about putting Kanji names...
I just wanted to consult to you about something, so sorry if I bothered you.
I'm currently in the process of making a list of episodes for the original Iron Chef using the format of the tables used in the "List of Iron Chef America episodes" article. The future contents are currently in my sandbox and it's still not finished because I'm still thinking of what else to add before moving them to the article space. Since most of the challengers in that show don't have Wikipedia articles, do you think it's a good idea to also add the kanji of the challenger's name upon the first mention of that challenger in the tables? The exception, of course, would be the non-Japanese and non-Chinese challengers. I was thinking of this, but I fear that it may make the tables wider if word wrapping is disabled. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 12:08, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- So don't disable word wrapping. It shouldn't be disabled, anyway, as that messes with the control of the browser over display. Yes, the kanji should be included for anyone who doesn't have an article here. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:31, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
About edit of Kuril Islands
It's true that many Japanese think southernmost 4 islands of Kuril are 北方四島 (Northern 4 Islands) which are territory of Japan. However, there is are few Japanese who think all Chishima-rettou (autonym of Kuril islands) is part of Japan. Regarding ALL Chishima as Japan is regarded as making propaganda for FAR-RIGHT or NIHON-KYOUSANTOU (Japanese Communist Party) in Japan.--Kiku b (talk) 12:25, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Regardless, the category should remain. It doesn't hurt anything, and helps more easily locate the articles through a variety of methods. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:29, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
An incorrect category gives viewer an incorrect understanding. If Kimchi is categorized as Japanese cuisine, you will remove that category tag. It isn't correct to categorize Kuril as Archipelagoes of Japan. It is exactly the same as telling lies.--Kiku b (talk) 14:58, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- No more than any other set of disputed islands. As it's verifiably and actively disputed, it should be listed under both countries. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Category deletion
I deleted Category:Non-article Japan-related pages because it is not actively in use. The category is merely a redirect to Category:NA-Class Japan-related articles. But pages are never added to this category manually; they are always added by using the {{WikiProject Japan}} template, which automatically files pages into the correctly-named category, so the redirect does not serve any purpose. You may wish to reconsider your undeletion of the category. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 00:05, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I reverted your edit to Category:Japanese voice actor stubs. There is no need to add Category:Japanese voice actors, as the {{Stub Category}} template contains it and adds it automatically. 2nd Sino Japanese War
In its present state the article should have the POV tag restored that blueshirts removed or it should be reverted to the last edit by Arilang1234, which represents the article prior to the contentious edits being made Sherzo (talk) 20:58, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- No, you don't understand how protection works. I protected it in the current state, and it's not going to change until you (all of you) can come to some sort of consensus on what changes need to be made instead of engaging in a revert war. Please go to that talk page and do so, then let me know once consensus has been reached. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- No you should either lock it with the POV tag intact or revert it and lock it to the last version before revert war began, instead what you have done is locked a major article in a highly POV form which not only damages the quality of information provided to the reader but also the reputation of this encyclopedia, as Chinese critics who claim western or anti chinese bias can now easily point to this article as an example, which thanks to you no one can remedy. Sherzo (talk) 05:03, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but please don't tell me how to do my job. I know very well how to handle article protection. I am not reverting it to anything until you guys can pull yourselves together long enough to discuss the issue civilly and come to a consensus. When protection is placed on an article, it is placed leaving the article in the condition it was in at the time. This is very clearly a content dispute. However, I have placed a POV tag as there is obviously a POV dispute going on here. I suggest you go back to the talk page of the article and try to come to a consensus. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Kanji Help
Hi! I've been trying to improve the article Glass Wings, but I've come across some problems with the kanji. It's written as 羽根玻璃ノ君。, and the romanized version is Hane Garasu no Kimi. The dictionary I'm using doesn't have any kanji for "Garasu", and I always thought it was more of a loan word (not sure, though). Would you mind telling me if it's a correct translation? Oh, and can you tell me the translation into English? Thank you for your help! WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 02:40, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- "Hane Garasu no Kimi" comes from the furigana above the kanji on the cover of the book. As for what the kanji mean, they literally mean (in order): feather, root/head, glass, glass-like, and "you". So "glass wings" is fairly close to a literal meaning, though "Your Glass Wings" would be a better literal translation, IMO. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:56, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I recently found I had to do a lot of redirect fixing for the article Kamen Rider Hibiki & The Seven War Oni. I still think there's an issue with the translation/transliteration of 戦鬼. Have you come across the word "Senki" before, and would that be a better translation?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 10:33, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, this particular "senki" is a made-up word. "War Oni" is probably as good as you're going to get for an understandable and concise translation. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:30, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Template {{nihongo4}}
Hi Nihonjoe — Unfortunately {{nihongo4}} is not an exact duplicate of {{nihongo2}}. I'd like to help in merging the two templates, but it's probably best to restore {{nihongo4}} until the merge is completed. — Regards. Cs32en 12:23, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's close enough that there is no reason to have both (since nihongo4 uses nihongo2). You're welcome to look into modifying nihongo2 to do anything else it needs to do. All that was in nihongo4 was {{{1}}} ({{nihongo2|{{{2}}}}}). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's indeed rather close. I'll try to design a template "nihongo-core" that can serve as a basis for all the related templates (similar to {{Citation core}}, but not as complicated). Then, the existing templates can be constructed as short-cuts for the core template. Cs32en 18:19, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 19:09, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you're interested, you can take a look at {{Nihongo core}}. Probably there are still a number of bugs in the template. Also, the version for long titles is not yet worked into the template. Let me know what you think about it, things that could be changed or improved. Regards. Cs32en 02:20, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- I recommend talking this over to WT:MOS-JA so more people can review it. There are people there who will likely be more useful than me in this discussion. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:46, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Seeking help in presenting thoughts clearly
I write to ask for prospective help. In a sense, I'm only interested laying the foundation for the future. Perhaps this may be construed as taking steps to avert problems might be mitigated by a timely comment or suggestion ...?
ArbCom remedy
Voting is underway at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Tang Dynasty/Proposed decision. In part because of "Evidence presented by Caspian blue", the locus of dispute was modified and "evidence in the case has expanded to include other disputes in which Tenmei has been involved." You will be surprised to learn that Nihonjoe has anything at all to do with this so-called "evidence" at "Tenmei's wikihounding and trolling". I don't think this timeless prose is worth struggling to read, but I mention this to explain a bit more of the reasons why I'm reaching out to you specifically.
ArbCom findings of fact included:
- 3.2.2 Tenmei and dispute resolution. "... many of Tenmei's talkpage posts and submissions during this arbitration case have been very difficult for other editors to understand, to the point that experienced participants in dispute resolution have had difficulty in following them, despite what we accept as Tenmei's good-faith best efforts to assist us in resolving the case."
ArbCom remedies included:
- 3.3.2 Tenmei and dispute resolution: "Should Tenmei become involved in any further disputes with other editors, whether concerning the content of articles (beyond ordinary day-to-day editing issues) or more formal dispute resolution procedures, he shall seek the assistance of a volunteer mentor or adviser to work with him in maximizing the value of his presentation by assisting him with formulating it in a clear and civil fashion."
- 3.3.3 Editors advised: "Editors who encounter difficulties in communicating with others on-wiki are advised to seek help from others in presenting their thoughts clearly, particularly when disputes arise or when dispute resolution is sought."
It is clear that ArbCom anticipates future difficulties; and I guess I need to do the same. Arguably, my previous postings on your talk page are congruent with exactly the sort of thing ArbCom wants me to do in future; and I'm willing to invest in learning about how to disagree without being disagreeable.
If you want to discuss this off-wiki, feel free to contact me at tenmei1781@gmail.com. -- Tenmei (talk) 17:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think the best way to disagree with people without being disagreeable is to refrain from anything other than presenting facts backed by reliable sources. Don't comment on the editor at all. Comment on the topic at hand, and—when presenting them—try to be as concise as possible. Try to use basic English instead of waxing loquacious. While it's great that you can use words such as that, many people have difficulty understanding your train of thought when they have to look up every other word you use. Sounding educated is wonderful, but if you can't present thoughts in a manner understandable by most of your audience (and most of them aren't English professors), then you'll lose out every time due to your arguments being too difficult for most people to easily understand and follow.
- It may also help you to outline your thoughts if they are covering a large range within a topic. Keep related comments together, and (again) be as concise as possible and don't use "big words". People are much more likely to read your comments if they are limited to a short paragraph (or two, if you must). Posting huge dissertations is ineffectual.
- I hope that helps. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:15, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Your RfB
If it were an RfA, I'd be strongly considering closing it. I strongly recommend you withdraw - I'm not sure you're going to learn any more from prolonging it. Up to you. --Dweller (talk) 11:50, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- The only thing I've learned so far is that people look at the appearance of knowledgeability rather than actual knowledge. I believe I've offered plenty in the way of how I would make decisions with the answer to Aitias' question to review those 18 RfX closures, and the various other responses I've given show that I know my way around just fine when it comes to the applicable policies, guidelines, and procedures. It seems, though, that some people just want me to post to WT:RFA a lot in order to somehow "prove" that I know what I'm doing even though that does nothing to prove anything other than knowing how to post to a talk page. I'll let it run for now. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:41, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's a common oppose at RfB, even at ultimately successful ones. Well, good luck. --Dweller (talk) 12:44, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, NhJ. Check out User:Michaelfan's mess (along with several anon edits), which I just untangled here. I'd think a perma-block would be in order. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 13:33, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Jacques magazine
Hi there!
You deleted my article on Jacques (magazine) as promotion - I was wondering if you could email me the deleted copy, so I can attempt to produce an article that fits within Wikipedia's guidelines.

DYK for Karatsu ware
Mailspect
Nihonjoe, the log indicates that you deleted the Mailspect page.
Mailspect is the name of the company that makes a very important technology called, the Message Processing Platform or MPP, and is launching an even more important technology called Email Stream Management. These technologies may be as important as Apache and MySQL in the future -- depending on how many contributors Mailspect is able recruit.
MPP processes millions, if not billions, of emails per day around the world, already. People who use the software are interested in understanding the history of the software. The article that you deleted was not an advertisement but a history of the software and company. The history of many other companies is included in Wikipedia.
I went to the Mailspect entry today to add more information on how the email archive and quarantine markets are segmented as well as to add links to articles and reviews about MPP, but it was gone.
Give us a few weeks to work on the entry and you will not be disappointed. I am a columnist at Linuxworld magazine -- Google Paul Sterne -- and it is important that the software industry have alternatives to Microsoft and other proprietary systems. MPP is one of the open systems that gives people alternative to MSFT.
In addition, I will add references to the antivirus and anti-spam entries, but was hoping to have a link back to a Wikipedia page, not just the Mailspect web site.
Please repost the page and let us work on it.

Japan-milhist-stub
Redirects to stub templates should still obey stub naming conventions, whicht his one does not. if it turns up as a redlink, then people will know it's not the correct name. This is longstanding practice. Please don't re-create this. Grutness...wha? 04:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- By the way, {{Japan-mil-hist-stub}} - which you didn't see fit to propose (despite you knowing full well that that is standard practice) is listed at WP:WSS/D. If you intend a stub template to be useful, you really should let those who are likely to be using it know about it - and if you'd proposed it first it would have (a) been at the right name from the outset and (b) not used asbox coding (which creates extra work for WP:WSS, which is why it's not widely used). Next time, propose these things first! Grutness...wha? 04:39, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- It wasn't proposed because it was absolutely clearly needed (I've only begun marking articles with it). The coding was copied from another mil-hist-stub (I forget which one), so don't blame me for the coding. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:17, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you'd proposed it, you'd have saved yourself work by not getting the naming wrong in the first place. You'd have saved me work by not having to fix it, list it as a discovery, and have this conversation with you. You'd have saved yourself even more work, in fact, since other stub sorters would also have been looking for stubs which could be marked with this template. Instead of doing that, however, you made more work for both of us - especially for you. All it would have taken would have been a mention that you thought a speediable stub type would be a good idea. It would have been made and populated far more more than you've been able to do by yourself in half the time, and with no stuff-ups in the naming or coding requiring fixing (when a stub template is made at WP:WSS, we don't rely on copying another template without knowing whether or not someone has rejigged the coding on it - on the subject of which, which template was it you copied it from? It'll need fixing too...) Grutness...wha? 13:04, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- You didn't have to "discover" it. I had every intention of listing on the stub page with all the others, but likely got distracted by something else. It's only been in existence for a couple days now. As I said, I'm not sure which one it was from. Is there any way to search by the code used in the stub? Alternately, you can see where it's used by viewing this page: Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Asbox. If you hide transclusions, there are less than 100 templates and other pages using it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 14:32, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

RfA thanks
Mifter (talk) 23:47, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Your RFB…
I am sorry to inform you that your RfB did not demonstrate a community consensus for promotion to bureaucrat, and has been closed. Should you wish to volunteer your time and efforts in this venue in the future, may I say, speaking from personal experience, that acting on the constructive criticism you received is likely the best way to demonstrate to the community that you are sufficiently perceptive and receptive for their purposes. I, too, used to lurk a lot at RfA and CHU, but I was not that vocal in either place, which accounts for my lack of success in my first two RfBs. After actively demonstrating, over a suitably long period of time, that I was cognizant of the policies and guidelines, and present at the discussions, my third RfB was, thankfully, successful. Hopefully, your next request, should you choose, will be successful too. -- Avi (talk) 22:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
