Don't worry

[edit]

don't worry. the best they can do is to check the IPs and see for themselves. Anyways I'am deleting my edits if they seem to discomfort you. Frasfras17 (talk) 06:35, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah right. What is the point of deleting now? The timing that was bothering, not your contribution. Nabataeus (talk) 06:44, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Frasfras17: Are you fully aware that deleting posts which are connected to the stream of conversation is against WP rules? You just did that. Not in Mubariz page. Nabataeus (talk) 06:56, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This source is written by Khwaja Khusro Tariq, who does not appear to be an historian.

Poetry enthusiast, psychiatrist, socialist, interfaith activist
I was born in Lahore, Pakistan and spent my childhood in Nairobi, Kenya and Khartoum, Sudan where I completed most of elementary and middle school. After spending a brief period of time in Egypt and Saudi Arabia my family returned to Pakistan. I went to Medical School in Pakistan following which I worked for two years at the Pakistan Association for Mental Health. Most of my patients were refugees from Afghanistan and the Pashtun tribal belt in Pakistan. This was a very intense experience that has shaped significantly my views on war, refugees and humans in general. I moved to the United States in 2006 and completed my psychiatric training in Queens, NY in 2011. I am currently in Jungian psychoanalysis as part of further training to be a psychoanalyst. My long term pursuits have included fiction and non-fiction literature, poetry, psychoanalysis, art of all varieties and travel. My primary academic interests are religion, mythology, psychology, history and politics."

Also,the Encyclopaedia of Islam, makes no mention of his ethnicity;

  • "IBN TAYMIYYA, TAKI AL-DIN AHMAD IBN TAYMIYYA, born at Harran on 10 Rabi' I 661/22 January 1263 and died at Damascus on 20 Dhu 'lKa'da 728/26 September 1328, Hanbali theologian and jurisconsult. Belonging to a family which had already given to this school two well-known scholars, his uncle Fakhr al-Din (d. 622/1225) and his paternal grandfather Madjd al-Din (d. 653/1255), Ibn Taymiyya was forced to leave his native town in 667/1269 before the approach of the Mongols and to take refuge in Damascus with his father 'Abd al-Halim (d. 682/1284) and his three brothers."

Clearly this information should be removed until a reliable source, concerning his ethnicity, can be found. --Kansas Bear (talk) 02:21, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kansas Bear: There are sources based on primary accounts found in the Arabic Wikipedia if you want me to add it, however it is inaccessible and unintelligible for English speakers. As for your concerns, he appears to be far from being an authoritative source, and ought to be removed per WP:RS if the claim is questioned. I think the article should be cleared from any mention of his ethnic background unless reliable materials are provided. Nabataeus (talk) 04:44, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should avoid using any primary source(s), just so we can avoid another problem down the road.
  • "I think the article should be cleared from any mention of his ethnic background unless reliable materials are provided."
Agreed. --Kansas Bear (talk) 05:31, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Lihyanite statue.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lihyanite statue.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 22:25, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Nabataeus. Upon reviewing the above file, I noticed that I may have a photo of a statue similar to this one in my possession, as I went to the National Museum of Korea when it held the Roads of Arabia exhibition. I'll upload it to my Flickr account later today, and you can give it a look to see if it's something what is needed in the article. Finnusertop, I hope you don't mind the slight delay in the file's deletion for me to review my files. xplicit 01:16, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's absolutely great @Explicit:, could you if it is not a burden I threw on you, upload the photos you've took in that exhibit? It would be extremely helpful, truly. Nabataeus (talk) 02:28, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The one I had in mind was File:Statue of a man at National Museum of Korea 01.jpg, which I hope is identical to the one you uploaded. I've uploaded 36 images onto Commons, which you can find at Category:Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia (National Museum of Korea). xplicit 10:46, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's even better. Thanks. Nabataeus (talk) 16:15, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Summaries

[edit]

This edit did three things: remove a paragraph, restore another paragraph, as well as remove dialects. Please make sure that summaries reflect edits as much as possible. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate13:11, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@PaleoNeonate: That's weird, how did I restore another paragraph and remove another? I am certain that I only touched the infobox but in the diff it is quite the opposite. Nabataeus (talk) 18:17, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That sometimes happens when editing an older version of the article (also explaining the inconsistent summary, then). It happened to me a few times too, so very understandable. When editing an older version there's a notice about it at the top but it's easy to miss. Preview also helps but for simple edits we often skip it... —PaleoNeonate18:38, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nabataean Kingdom

[edit]

You may have understood my comment. Copy editing is modifying something to correct grammar, spelling, and improve readability. The English is a little less broken now.

My comment about Antigonid–Nabataean confrontations is that, since the conflict relates to two polities, it might be more useful to let that article contain the details, and let the section in Nabataean Kingdom be more of a summary, rather than (effectively) trying to duplicate what's in Antigonid–Nabataean confrontations. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 00:22, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you have a point. Nabataeus (talk) 06:45, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Qanats

[edit]

Hiya. I don't know how welcome this will be, but thanks for your intervention in the Qanat article. I'd be delighted to leave well alone and let you honestly introduce the newer sources and more nuanced view of the whole thing. If I seem like I'm saddling you with a workload in stepping back, I'm sorry, but I don't think anything I have to add right now would be very helfpul as I have clearly been associated with the unwelcome introduction of inconvenient truth. If I can help in any way, please do let me know. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 03:10, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I totally understand your frustration. Wikipedia sometimes could be an unwelcoming and onerous place. Implying that you are a POV pusher was uncalled for. Take care. Nabataeus (talk) 04:05, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya. There's a version of that text with the cites inline on my sandbox if you want to copy/past it. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 10:23, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lihyan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gaza. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
