List of Puerto Ricans

One of the main concerns about the "list" is that it is getting out of control and that many names of people who have only had their "15 minutes of fame" or simply are non-notables are being added. I propose that we set up guidelines as to who should be admitted with a clear definition as to the terms "notable" and "fame". I am calling upon the parties interested to express their opinion and to help develope these guidelines. I believe that after we take a vote and reach a censensus, said guidelines should be followed and posted either on the article or the articles talk page. We need your help. Olga Nolla

Hello, I disagree with your assessment of Olga Nolla as low. DO you know who she is? She is a pretty important literary figure in Puerto Rico. Not only is she an important poet, she is part of the famous literary famnily, Ramírez de Arellano. Her mother was also a poet. Also, she is the cousin of Rosario Ferré (daughter of Luis A. Ferré). She was also co-founder of the literary magazine Cupey. Her poetry is pretty important for the so-called Generation de los 70, which was a very important literary movement in Puerto Rico where authors started moving towards a more Puerto Rican sense of self, more into tradition. Rosario Ferré, Celia Peris Peris, Ana Lydia Vegga and many other were part of this generation. Joint audit

I attempted to cleanup Joint audit today, but the original article was more or less a marketing article, and I'm not certain I re-phrased it correctly. Could you take a look at it when you get time? I think the original article was written by someone in France to market joint audits, but I also got the impression it's a common term in many countries. But I don't have outside references on that. Thanks for your message! I did a quick Google on Joint audit and found mostly (but not exclusively) finance-related articles. But the term seems to be used for any audit that uses staff from multiple specialties, departments OR firms. So it's not got a single definition, as you said. Anything you could do with Joint Audit and Dual Audit would help Wiki readers, I'm sure. I stuck one IRS reference into Joint Audit today, but don't keep it if it's not helpful. I'll leave you to work on these articles, but if I come across a reference that might be helpful, I'll pop a summary and reflink into the articles -- which you're free to pop back out if they're not helpful, of course! It is a shame that PBS, a federally funded educational network will go on the air "The War" a documentary by Ken Burns" that has omitted the contributions and participation of Hispanics in World War II. Despite the fact that PBS Chief Executive Paula Kerger is aware of this serious injustice, the network considers the documentary a "Masterpiece". I exhort the readers of "Somos Primos" and "El Boricua" who are loyal law abiding tax paying citizens of this country to unite their voices in protest by writing to their Congressman and the PBS network. Remind them that we pay taxes with our hard earned money and that PBS would not be on the air were it not for the taxes which we pay. Let them know that PBS should not contribute to the Anti-Hispanic sentiment in this country by omitting the contributions which we as a people have made. Many Hispanics have given their lives for the good of the United States and their sacrifices should have been in vain. Write to PBS Ombudsman, Michael Getler http://www.pbs.org/aboutsite/aboutsite_feedback.html and express your dissatisfaction. I want to share this with you

The FA was really great, but something amazing happened yesterday. Something that I want to share with some of my closest friends in Wikipedia.

User: Murcielago inspired me to write the List of Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients. As a consequence together with User:ERcheck, I went and wrote the bios that had red links. One of the bios that I wrote was of David M. Gonzales who was posthumously awarded the MoH in World War II after he saved five men that were buried by digging them out with his bare hands. One day I recieved an e-mail from the daughter of one of the men whom he saved. She wanted me to help her find the family of David M. Gonzales because her father, who is in ill health, always dreamed of thanking the Gonzales family.

I told her that I would do everything within my power to help her in her quest, but the truth is that I had no idea on how the hell I could do this.

I wrote letters and made phone calls trying to locate the family. I did everything possible, I even had a plea published in one of the magazines that I write for (I'm running the Hispanic MoH series in Somos Primos). Nothing! I even got in touch with the Pentagon. The dying soldiers family has become close with me and even offered to pay my expenses to Atlanta, Georgia for an interview.

Finally, today after months of searching, the niece of David M. Gonzales got in touch with me. They too want to get in touch with the dying soldiers family. You can't imagine the satisfaction that I feel uniting these two families for an event that occurred 62 years ago. This is an amazing story that might make the press in the future. It feels really good when you can make a difference in the lives of people whom you've never met. Tony the Marine 14:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Featured articles

No need to apologize. I have just re-read WP:R and noted your point about cross-space redirects. You'll notice, though, that one of the exceptions to the "You might want to delete..." list is if "they aid searches on certain terms." Now I realize (as you pointed out) that consensus seems to go against this kind of redirect, but it just seems wrong to send users to Article when it's clear that they really want to go to WP:FA.

I have run into this same issue with Brilliant prose (the early name for "Featured articles" on Wikipedia) and we came up with the safe solution of redirecting to History of Wikipedia, rather than the awful alternative (simply Prose). It's a little tougher here - I think sending to Wikipedia would be a bit general.

There I go, opening another can of worms. :) The reason I think that "Brilliant prose" should redirect to something Wikipedia-related is that it is a patently Wikipedia-related term. Users who weren't around in the early days will have no reason to search for the term, as it really has no other unique meaning as a two-word phrase. If you check Google, you'll see that links to Wikipedia dominate the results overwhelmingly. Moreover, it would be just as well to put the You may be looking for... link on the History of Wikipedia page as on the Prose page.

You would have a better argument for "Featured articles," as someone could theoretically be looking for something other than WP:FA. I doubt it, though. --DLand^TALK 03:23, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

New Section: “Trolley” de San Juan

Hello, as promised, I've added valuable info to Rail transport in Puerto Rico, which is mysteriously missing from most information channels, (could it be part of the Great American Streetcar Scandal) altough the Paradas are still around, added nice trivia to Ocean Park too, references and possibly more info will be added in the future. Hmm, I do not approve the change since I still think it is an ego/sensitivity issue and it breaks the PR Wikiproject from the conventions followed in the 1.0 Assessment used by all Wikipedia but I will try to help you with the code. WikiProject Puerto Rico

It's nothing personal. I really think that the project is in good hands with you. My "old" friend Joelito can help you handle things. Right now I just returned from an 8 day non-stop tour of the east coast (US) and I had sometime to think. I realized that I've done some good in bringing some awareness of the contributions that our people made to society in general and have decided to expand into other areas which would include Hispanics in the US in general. That's why I have written List of Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients and wrote the first of two articles requested by the Pentagon, Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy (the next one will United States Naval Academy Hispanic alumni's). San Juan, Puerto Rico

Hello Mtmelendez, in regards to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Geography section and the rest of article may need major surgery, its completely off, first of all the Karst region is located 48 miles (77km) W of San Juan, and what does land ownership, surfers and kitesurfers, business districts, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Dupont Plaza Hotel, Plaza Del Mercado have to do with Geography?, all that may have to be redistributed in rest of article. Thank You All

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in [[4]] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

about References

Hello dear colleague, I think we got a problem, maybe I'm mistaken, you've mentioned me that a good article should have good references… "hard" sources (i.e. sources from printed books), because it basically uses sources from the internet, and those can change at any time. If you could add hard sources, it could really improve it., I truly believe this and go overboard getting "good hard evidence" for my contributions, well, did you take a look at San Juan, Puerto Rico, there are "64 References and counting", many of them are even "flaky", it looks like a time bomb, i know User: Dark Dragon Flame may have good intentions, but some may even consider this vandalism, check out what he has written to me User talk:Moebiusuibeom-en in reference to: User talk: Dark Dragon Flame; Re: San Juan, Puerto Rico, in other words, I have to inform him of any tweaks i may find and he will change them! He has added a good dose of Notable "Sanjuaneros" nevertheless.

I'm a new Wikipedian, enjoy contributing, especially precise good articles, with a minimalist touch maybe, I have contributed in many North American subjects with external links with-in articles that where quickly removed because of being "external". Do we have a double standard?

He may have good intentions, but the part that annoys me is the fact that he is spreading lies, I did not told him to inform me of changes I just offered my help, second most of the refs where not added by me all of the ones in the dyplomacy section where just converted from external links to refs and these one half of the ones in the article, others were moved from relevant articles. I foccused my energies on converting the "Diplomacy" and "Notable Sanjuaneros" in to tables for a better format as well as expanding the latter. The other thing was how he seems to have two faces saying "good job" on one side and telling you I was "vandalising", he has done virtually nothing to help the cause but he brings a as he puts it a "QUEJA" about it instead of working with the page. I do know the article needs written references and I was intending to put them there when I found myself unable to do so. I truly want to raise this page to Featured Article since I was born in this city, but I do understand that this is a proccess with a fair ammount of steps and I have passed it four times before, the fact that he suggest I don't know what I'm doing is offensive and with complains he isn't going to help improve anything, Peace. -凶 00:08, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

San Juan vol. 2

An anon did some text cleanup yesterday,[5] I think some rephrasing is needed but the tag doen't seem to be useful anymore. At the current level I think it can pass GAC, now I don't want to be hasty but I think the faster we put it up to GAC the better, because as a result of the massive backlog on the page most articles take weeks for someone to review them, we can put it up there and continue the work and we will probably have to wait a while before someone notices it, what do you think? -凶 00:04, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey friends, I believe that even though San Juan metro area hosts consular staff from 37 countries, the “Diplomacy” section truly belongs in the Puerto Rico article. This is not a local matter but more of an international scope (State level).

I have researched various international cities and the “Consulates and Embassies” belong to whole countries or “states”, not on a city scale, this section should be “trimmed” and moved to the Puerto Rico article and just have a link to it from the San Juan article.

GOOD MOVE!! BUT, you don't have to be freely independent country to have Consular Staff, any state can have a Consul, Consulates are in every big city of USA and the World, in our case they cater to folks visiting and/or living in Puerto Rico from abroad.

Embassies are in Countries Capitals, aka; Washington DC, but we can still leave San Juan as the Capital of Puerto Rico.

By the way, the Dominican Republic has two Consulates in Puerto Rico, the other one is in Mayagüez!, don't know if other countries have second consulates in PR

What i ment above is that Hato Rey, Puerto Rico has a good posibility of being by itself a good candidate for a “high caliber” Article, not to merge, I believe the “New Hato Rey” in the works by city planners includes the whole Muñoz Rivera Avenue and the Tren Urbano stations along it, but yes, the “Golden Mile” could be merged with San Juan! – Moebiusuibeom-en 14:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

But let me tell you that I believe the Caribbean dreamland that once strove to be the “Golden Mile” is no more, I've read various articles about this area and now they call it “Ciudad Mayor” and the idea is to revitalize this sector along the Tren Urbano all the way to Piñero Avenue. I believe this is due to the “Golden Mile” never having been noble, and being sad and decadent due to faulty urban planning approach from the 60's which segregated living residences amongst other things.
