Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Mnemeson, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Not a problem! Thanks for... thanking me :) I hope it is helpful, and hope that we get to see some great contributions from you! Regards, riana_dzastatceER00:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Would you mind if I chnaged the warning on 69.138.47.128 to a test3 I've already given him a test 2 for exactly the same vandalism. Cheers muchly Khukri (talk . contribs) 19:47, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stringray

[edit]

dude why did you change my thing on stringray it wasn't verty nise!!!! leave it like it is ok!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.195.86.36 (talkcontribs)

Hi there - I reverted your edit to Stingray, because it was a point of view comment, calling all Stingrays 'MURDERERS'. Please see WP:NPOV, and remember that WP is an Encyclopaedia, where a formal, dispassionate tone is required. This is not the place to comment on current events. --Mnemeson 23:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In case you didnt know well I'll tell you... Steve irwin was KILLED by a stringray!!! so im aloud to say it! ok???
I am aware that Steve Irwin died this morning after being injured by a Stingray. However, that doesn't mean that editing an encyclopaedic entry to include emotionally charged language is necessary. --Mnemeson 23:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok i get ya but I still think that someone should say how dangeris they are? can u do that for me????

I personally don't feel qualified to add to the article I'm afraid. However, if you'd like to discuss the edits you'd like to make on the article's talk page, you'll find editors who do know about the subject who are more than happy to listen to you as they come to a consensus about what should be in the article. --Mnemeson 23:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Prescott

[edit]

Please stop reverting my edits. They are, afterall, perfectly valid ones--84.65.78.116 19:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're replacing the image of the UK's deputy Prime Minister with Star Wars' Jabba the Hut. I'm sorry, but I don't consider that a valid edit. We welcome constructive edits to wikipedia, but what you're doing is considered vandalism. Please stop. --Mnemeson 19:32, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is indeed correct, but the resemblance is so uncanny that it really ought to be pointed out somehow. Fair enough, maybe it shouldn't be replacing his main photo, but just a mention is all that is required in my opinion. Same applies to Gordon Brown/Kodiak Brown Bear.--84.65.78.116 19:34, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find a source that complies with WP:VERIFY, and WP:NPOV, you're welcome to work it into the main article. Please remember that WP is an encyclopaedia, so opinions are discounted as far as possible in favour of verifiable fact. --Mnemeson 19:38, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have to say I'm amazed by how many "last warnings" I've received now. Not that I'm complaining...84.65.78.116 19:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have been reported as a persistent vandal on WP:AIV --Mnemeson 19:44, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I guess I can go brag to my friends about that then! --84.65.78.116 19:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can do whatever you'd like with it. If you'd like to make constructive edits to WP in the future, you'll be more than welcome to do so. --Mnemeson 19:49, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is interesting that the same edits to the same sites are being made by several different IP numbers. Do you think it is the same editor, or a team of vandals, or what? Is there a sockpuppeting issue? Whatever it is, the joke is over and the problem may need to be addressed by admin. Viewfinder 23:07, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The IPs are all registered to Energis DSL, two of them are specifically London, UK, one is just UK (which doesn't exclude London). Could be the same person if their DSL uses dynamic IPs, either that or Energis is popular with people who think our politicians look like woodland creatures... --Mnemeson 23:18, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stop removing my AoM edit. It's not a test. PS. How do you message correctly?

82.12.85.64

Hi there - I edited your contribution to Age of Mythology. We are grateful for your contribution to Wikipedia, but as an Encyclopaedia, it requires a formal tone. Leaving SHOUTED MESSAGES in articles doesn't conform to this, which is part of what I removed. The other thing was an external link, which, if suitable for the article, should go in the dedicated external links section at the end. I hope this doesn't put you off editing wikipedia, but please remember these things before making future edits. If you'd like any more assistance using it, I'd be more than happy to help. To leave messages on user talk pages, you did fine, although you can sign by adding four tildes (~) in a row, nd create new headings by using two equals (=) signs, then the message, then two more. Please contact me if you have any more questions :) --Mnemeson 15:17, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the link is just so people wanting to learn about the map editor know where to go. ok? And i told the one who called you a vandal you don't do that for you. 82.12.86.64 15:19, 7 September 2006 (UTC) thanks for the reply.[reply]

Konstable's RfA thanks

[edit]

Hi Mnemeson, thank you for supporting me in my RfA, which was closed as successful last Wednesday with a unanimous support of (47/0/0). I will do my best to help keep Wikipedia clean, green and vandal free. Once again, thank you! --Konstable 14:39, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

The Barnstar of Reversion/RickK Anti-Vandalism
For beating me to over ten reverts in the past week! —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  21:31, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hi -- thanks for the note. I hadn't noticed the baseball reference in the page when I tagged it, and I see now that it has been deleted. I would not have considered a freshman university ball player to meet WP:BIO, but I haven't generally been following the sports discussions, so I could well be wrong. Some verifiable info about his career is here, although, again, I wouldn't have called that "notable". I see that Allen3 deleted it; do you feel strongly enough about this to ask him to reinstate it (possibly for AfD) on his talk page? thanks for keeping an eye out! bikeable (talk) 15:56, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, I think it would have to go straight to AfD, so... we'll see if someone recreates it. I'll read more carefully for those sports-based claims of notability next time... best, bikeable (talk) 14:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's happened again.

Check Stingray and you'll find a smart retort that is trying to recreate a scene similar to the Steve Irwin attacks. And by the way, look at the IP that did it... --D.F. "Jun Kazama Master" Williams 17:12, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Your recent revert to Abortion made me giggle. Thanks. 217.132.156.22 19:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks from Osborne

[edit]

Is this how I should reply to you? "Kelp" (the common name)refers to a group of algae which contain the genus of seaweed "Laminaria" (the botanical name) as a major group. I am not sure whether they should be merged or Kelp redirected to Laminaris. Thanks for your help, will try the talk pages of "Kelp" and "Laminaria" and see what I can do. Thanks again.Osborne

WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request

[edit]

This is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I may have found your page based on your contributions or your link repair user box on your user page. If you are not a member, please consider including your name on the project page. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 23:10, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
