Sources for John Cleland (racing driver)
[edit]Hello, good work on John Cleland (racing driver), and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in John Cleland (racing driver)? You can simply add links, preferably as the inline citations, or see citation templates for different citation methods. Thanks! best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 03:43, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Request for edit summary
[edit]Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 1% for major edits and 3% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 74 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 21:00, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Radisich
[edit]Yes, Paul Radisich in Croatian would be spelt Radisić. The letter ć in Croatian sounds like ch...hence people add the h to get people to say it correct. Otherwise people would say RadisiCK. Adding the h is common all over the world by Croatian Immigrants but in saying that almost 60% don't add the h.
It was also popular for names to be Anglosized, Italianized ..something like Ivankovich became Evans etc...Pilic became Polo etc... The most popular non Croat sounding last name is Abbott. Dates back to gold rush days.

[edit]As author of the below article you should be made aware:
I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Snooker (rule), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Snooker (rule). If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Sourcing
[edit]I and I'm sure many others appreciate the amount of sourcing of obscure facts that you do, but to be honest you are effectively also creating a lot of unnecessary work for other editors by not doing it properly. Please use:
<ref name="SomethingUniqueHere">
{{Cite web|url=http://whatever.com/page|other details here...}}
</ref>
instead of:
[http://whatever.com/page]
It would be immensely helpful. (The two blue links in the code example there will take you to the documentation for ref and for cite web (there are also {{cite book}}, etc.) — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 17:04, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Again, please source articles properly, not by dumping bare URLs into the text of the article. This simply makes more and more cleanup work for other people to do. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 22:31, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Joss Stone
[edit]I'm removing the Jewish singer and such categories from Joss Stone. I'm probably going to need some support showing how hysteric people become when you remove that stuff, so I'm asking for your help. The source http://www.liberaljudaism.org/education_anglo_jewry.htm seems to take additions from just about anyone and also thinks wikipedia is a good resource. Who knows where they got this stuff. Thanks.

Sen. Jesse Helms
[edit]Thanks for trying to fix the Moseley-Braun / Allen bit in the "controversies" section, but your fixed version is also incorrect. Claude Allen had moved on long before she became a senator. Also, "Dixie" is not a "song about the good life during slavery." There is nothing in the song about slavery. (Note: I'm talking about the original version, not Tom Lehrer's parody.) Jesse Helms: examples of Bigotry
[edit]1.Helms opposed the Martin Luther King holiday bill in 1983
2.After a protest during his 1986 visit to Mexico, Sen. Helms was quoted: "All Latins are volatile people": end quote
and lastly, i write in disgust!
3.As an aide to the 1950 Senate campaign of North Carolina Republican candidate Willis Smith, Sen. Helms helped create attack ads against Smith's opponent Frank Graham, including one which read: "White people, wake up before it is too late. Do you want Negroes working beside you, your wife and your daughters, in your mills and factories? Frank Graham favors mingling of the races." :end quote
MartinUK,
Those three "examples" alone warrant the label of a Bigot.
Alvin A. Harris
Jesse Helms examples of bigotry pt.2
[edit]1.In columns, commentaries and pronouncements from the Senate floor, Helms sowed hatred and called names: The University of North Carolina was "the University of Negroes and Communists." (Capital Times, 11/22/94) Black civil rights activists were "Communists and sex perverts." (Copley News Service, 8/23/01)
2.Of civil rights protests Helms wrote, "The Negro cannot count forever on the kind of restraint that's thus far left him free to clog the streets, disrupt traffic, and interfere with other men's rights." (WRAL-TV commentary, 1963)
3.He also wrote, "Crime rates and irresponsibility among Negroes are a fact of life which must be faced." (New York Times, 2/8/81)
4.when a caller to CNN's Larry King Live show praised guest Jesse Helms for "everything you've done to help keep down the niggers," Helms' response was to salute the camera and say, "Well, thank you, I think." (Wilmington Star-News, 9/16/95)
MartinUK,
Would you like more examples? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.232.153.118 (talk) 21:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- MartinUK, just so you know, Alvin (a/k/a 144.232.153.118 or GRANDEXTRAV) is citing "facts" that are really just unproven anecdotes, spread by Sen. Helms' political enemies. If there were provable examples of bigotry on his part, then Jim Hunt and Harvey Gantt would surely have used them against him during their multi-million dollar campaigns to capture his Senate seat. They didn't because they could find no such examples.
- "Columns, commentaries and pronouncements from the Senate floor" are all very public forms of expression, which in most cases create lasting paper trails. So if Helms had actually "sowed hatred and called names" by calling UNC "the University of Negroes and Communists" in such forums, as Alvin evidently believes, there should be records to prove it. But there aren't. If there were, then Helms' opponents would have used them against him, during their Senate campaigns.
- Unfortunately, Alvin seems to accept as fact any accusation against Helms that he reads, without bothering to see even whether it is plausible. Consider, for example, this "fact" that Alvin cites: "As an aide to the 1950 Senate campaign of North Carolina Republican candidate Willis Smith... Helms..." It is obviously nonsense, in part because in 1950 Jesse Helms was a 28 year old Democrat. NCdave (talk) 09:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Simon Andrews (motorcycle racer), British motorcycle racer
[edit]A tag has been placed on Simon Andrews (motorcycle racer), British motorcycle racer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 17:46, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK, maybe he does qualify for "the highest level in amateur sports" per WP:BIO. I have removed my db tag. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 17:55, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't call motorcycle racing an amateur sport - although many competitors pay for the rides themselves or through personal sponsors, most of the top guys are paid (fairly big money in some cases) by teams linked to motorcycle manufacturers.--MartinUK (talk) 18:02, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the alternative in WP:BIO#Athletes is "fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing" - I guess the lines aren't so clear in motorcycle racing, Whatever, he makes it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

F1 race reports
[edit]Hi MartinUK. Thanks for the great work you are doing converting the information in the "Notes" sections of F1 race reports into proper paragraphs. One little tip for you: an easy way to ensure the race classification table appears below the infobox and race report, rather than inserting a whole bunch of carriage returns, is to insert a "clear" code "{{-}}" above the table - see this example. Also, if the fastest lap information is included in the infobox, feel free to remove it from the "Notes" section. But apart from that: keep up the good work! Regards. Barack Obama's ancestry
[edit]I just wanted to give you a heads-up that the specifics of Obama's ancestry is already in the body of the article. In fact, it's in the very next section after the intro, so it's kind of redundant to put it in the intro as well. --GoodDamon 22:59, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Having only African American in the lead sentence is not neutral in any shape or form, it is an extreme bias. Reliable sources can be found in great number for both bi-racial and African American. WP:NPOV is a core policy and prohibits this type of POV placement in articles. Landon1980 (talk) 02:08, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'd agree with Landon here, especially due to the specifics of Obama's life (his father's limited involvement, his Indonesian stepfather, his deliberate adoption of a black identity in his 20s after struggling with his identity to the point of attributing his past cocaine use to it). The Lewis Hamilton article reached a consensus in which a single sentance mentions both 'first African-American president' and 'white mother/black father'.--MartinUK (talk) 02:12, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, because calling an individual the same thing he calls himself is such a disgusting POV ... right. Grsz11 →Review! 02:17, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- The point of view of the subject of an article is still a point of view. We don't allow people to edit their own articles, so why should their opinions of themselves take precedence?--MartinUK (talk) 02:19, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, then we use what reliable sources say...African American. Grsz11 →Review! 02:23, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- So why not use the many sources which expand on this? Calling him 'African American' is like calling a tuna mayonnaise sandwich a bread product, it's only half the story.--MartinUK (talk) 02:26, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- And it is in the very next section, where it is better served to go into that depth. Grsz11 →Review! 02:27, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- 'White mother' is not 'depth'. The list of his pre-president policies in the intro is much longer and contains less crucial info--MartinUK (talk) 02:30, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- None of the suggested terms are indepth at all. Why all of you keep talking about what Obama refers to himself as is beyond me. BLP mentions no such thing as adhering to what the person wants. You wouldn't call a tuna sandwich tuna in the very first sentence, then go on in the body to explain it is between two slices of bread. What is so hard to understand about a simple fact of NPOV? Reliable sources describe him as both, and picking one of them is POV and it is really that simple. This will lead to an RFC, the editor above is proof that all most editors are concerned about is what they think Obama would want. Landon1980 (talk) 04:13, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- By all means, open an RfC instead of dragging on discussions that are way past consensus. Grsz11 →Review! 04:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- And don't put words in my mouth, as you've grown accustom to doing. I never said "what Obama would want". Grsz11 →Review! 04:43, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- You repeatedly bring up that he "self identifies as African American" you list that as one of your reasons why the lead should be as is. Why do you do and say things if you will not admit to doing them? Even if not word for word you have more than implied it. Landon1980 (talk) 04:54, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

The article Darelle Wilson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable racing driver
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. GiantSnowman 22:56, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Autopatrolled
[edit]Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:
- This permission does not give you any special status or authority
- Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
- You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
- If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
- If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 18:47, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Abdul Aziz Binladin
[edit]Just in case you weren't already aware, Abdul Aziz Binladin is a relation of Osama and there are several spellings because the official spelling is in Arabic and as such is translated phonetically. Readro (talk) 17:48, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 4
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Brock, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eggs (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

This is a courtesy message. I have opened a discussion at Talk:John Hopkins (motorcycle racer)#Birth place, nationality, Original Research and lede citation regarding the pre-existing prose from 2005 and your addition of a citation in late 2014. This is not a criticism of your actions as I realise your addition was in Good Faith, but the citation does not support some of the content. Thanks.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 21:19, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
