Edit-a-thon at the Univ. of Chicago!
[edit]Hey there! The Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago is hosting an edit-a-thon to celebrate Women's History Month on Saturday, March 28th from 10 AM to 4 PM. Coffee and lunch is provided for free, and we'll be focusing on building a few biographical and organizational articles. We'll also have full access to archival resources maintained by the Special Collections and Research Center. If you're interested in joining us, please RSVP at the event page here! Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:27, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

- Hey Mareklug-- but I wanted to personally let you know that we're moving this event to a Saturday date in April, so you might be able to attend after all! Between April 4th and 25th, does either date work well for you? Thanks, I, JethroBT drop me a line 18:09, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- On Saturday the 4th I am in Cincinnati straight from the Carmel, Indiana class, on Saturday 11th I may yet again on my way to Cincinnati as I have to be further down south the following Monday, and on Saturday the 25th the Main Chicago Public Library (Harold Washington) has me signed up staffing A Small Garlic Press table in the lobby for the Annual Poetry Day all day long. Would the confirmed participants be willing to do an April Sunday? Or, heck, if you are moving it outside the Women's History month anyway, what about Saturday, May the 2nd? It would be least likely to conflict for me. But. If you must do it on a Saturday in April, Saturday the18th is least conflicting for me, and I am most likely to be able to be there, when that date rolls into the present. Bestest, --Mareklug talk 20:19, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! They just let me know that May could work for them as well, so I'm keeping that possibility open. Speaking of the 18th, the Pritzker actually has an event on April 18th that I'll be sending invites for pretty soon. If you can make it, that'd be great. :) I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:26, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Also, unfortunately, our hosts at the Special Collections and Research Center in the library are closed on Sundays. :( 20:30, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Then I would heartily root for Saturday, May the 2nd. ;) --Mareklug talk 20:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Pozdrawiam belissarius (talk) 05:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- No, to wspaniale. -̴Mareklug talk 05:43, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Painting of Martin Samuel Allwood.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Painting of Martin Samuel Allwood.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Pierwszy i trzeci są rozbudowanymi tłumaczeniami artykułów medalowych z en-wiki Air raids on Japan i Mutiny on the Bounty, a drugi odpowiada artykułowi French and Indian War, ale został napisany w oparciu o źródła, więc jest całkowicie mój. "Naloty na Japonię" i "wojnę o kolonie" zgłosiłem do medalu, głosowanie trwa. Z "Buntem" poczekam kilka tygodni i też zgłoszę. Tyle info z mojego podwórka, a co u Ciebie? [edit]On 16 September 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Martin Allwood, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Martin Allwood put Gunvor Hofmo's "Alt jeg bad om, det er også skjedd, / og hjertet—men jeg er bare redd!" as "All I asked for has been granted me—Yet I am scared, although my heart is free."? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Martin Allwood. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Replaceable fair use File:O'Hare with Oct 15, 2015 new runway (Google Maps).png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:O'Hare with Oct 15, 2015 new runway (Google Maps).png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:39, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- @User:Eeekster You are not paying attention to my reasons as already delineated in the NFUR template. However, I went ahead and complied with your (onerous) wishes. If it were available to use a free image, we would be using it. If you feel you can score such an image, please feel free to do so. --Mareklug talk 02:16, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:40, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Speedy deletion nomination of Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. March Madness 2017
[edit]G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

searching for a 2012 reference on Maya-Maya Airport
[edit]Hi Mareklug, I see in this edit that you originally added the reference "NOTAM Brazza of 15.11.2012 – 16-11-2012,hfyg ntm12fc22.pdf" to the Maya-Maya Airport article. Any chance you have a copy of this, or know how to get in touch with the website that posted it? I tried using the contact email on the site, but my message was returned as undeliverable.
Regards, paul2520 (talk) 17:57, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, their 2012 NOTAMs appear not to be online anymore. I too dropped them a note now about need to source, but don’t hold out much hope of getting any useful response. However, the fact that the old RWY 05/23 at Maya-Maya is used only as a taxiway is reflected plainly on the aeródrome chart from 2016 at the same site, in different section. So we can use it instead as reference: http://www.ais-asecna.org/pdf/ad/2-ad/05ad2-1-25.pdf. —Mareklug talk 01:45, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
[edit]As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive
[edit]G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

A barnstar for you

Waltz's Slovenian ethnicity
[edit]Hello Prunk, I was thinking maybe you could give me your opinion on this http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Talk:Christoph_Waltz#Slovenian_heritage I've proven that Christoph Waltz has Slovenian roots and is related to Josipina Turnograjska, but some editors are trying to deny this and I do not understand why. I'm trying to assume good faith, but the this whole thing really puzzles me. Anyway, I hope that by reading the talk through you will be able to put things in order. Thanks.
