Fair Use Notices: I no longer upload fairuse images - If you have a notice for me regarding fair use rationales or orphan unfree images, please check the image upload logs. It is most likely that I resized an image and the previous uploader's info was deleted. Please try to notify them, I will not try keep any unfree image on wiki. Thanks.

Conflicted licensing on image File:ArcMap.jpg
[edit]The above noted image or media file appears to have conflicted licensing. As an image cannot be both 'free' and 'unfree', a check of the exact status of this media/image concerned is advised.Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:42, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Regarding your deletion of this image, your comment is as follows: "F7: Violates non-free use policy: likely a postcard from less than 70 years ago". That is actually the reason why I argued the image not being replaceable with a public domain image. Did you notice my comment on the talk page of the article? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 06:39, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- I did read your comment before deleting the image, however I think that I interpreted your comment differently than you intended it. I saw your comment as stating that even if the author died immediately, it has been less than 70 years since its creation. Hence if this item was under copyright at some point, then it likely still protected under said copyright. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 20:45, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly, the image I uploaded is still protected by copyright, but author is anonymous. File was uploaded with non-free image data and a non-free image rationale. Your comment was: "F7: Violates non-free use policy". What exactly does the image violate since it was deleted? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 21:58, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry, I think I made a mistake. So the image didn't technically have a license at the time, which I think I confused for the other template that was on the image. I have restored the image and I believe that I have posted a correct license template for that image. In order to prevent this image from being deleted again, it must be used in an article. I'm not exactly certain which article you intend for it to go into, but in the license I am presuming the article Riga. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 23:41, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for restoring the image. I have reverted your edit of the St. Peter's Church, Riga article, where the image was placed in the first place. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 06:33, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Image restore request
[edit]Could you restore the earlier higher-resolution version of File:BBC BASIC for Windows.png please? Since the whole purpose of the image is apparently to be able to see what was written in the "About" pop-up, the image is made completely useless if this is no longer possible. Jheald (talk) 08:08, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- I can't really restore the original since it is a very high resolution image under a fair use license. Instead I've posted just the about screen from that program. I hope this is satisfactory. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 12:38, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Arab strap.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Arab strap.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Solid State Survivor (talk) 03:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Atari Transputer.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Atari Transputer.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Solid State Survivor (talk) 04:16, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism deletion
[edit]Hi Malo, I have something I would like you to do if you can. When I just started to edit, I must admit that I was doing some "nonsense" to say so and if you could delete my revisions in the history of this file (just to say that there's over 15 my revisions that should be deleted). I would be very grateful to you and apologize for the way of everything. Thank you in advance. - Corey.7.11.1992 (talk) 19:10, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
File:Briggswhen.jpg
[edit]I have tagged File:Briggswhen.jpg as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 16:11, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
Is Juliana Luecking a notable listing?
[edit]Hi Malo,
Thanks for getting in touch. I'm new to Wikipedia. Recently I found a listing for me (Juliana Luecking), and then I added a lot of information to it logged in as, "BullDogWoof." You left a message for me that the listing may be deleted because it may not be notable.
My first thought is to list a few links for references that might help determine that. The first link is from the page now, and gives background for an activist movement I helped lead that stopped the NYPD from arresting videographers:
Picturing Protest, Artists Fight Camera Permit Proposal http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/28/nyregion/28film.html Background on the activists. I am quoted.
The following listings support that, and also include notable influence on the underground music and spoken word scene because of records and CDs I recorded on Kill Rock Stars.
Picture New York http://www.pictureny.org/archives/93 Testimony by Juliana Luecking, MOFTB Public Hearing, NYC, December 13, 2007
The Village Voice: I Turn My Camera On http://www.villagevoice.com/content/printVersion/212089/ I am quoted: "Do you think cops will measure the sidewalk to mark how eight feet must be clear?" asked video artist Juliana Luecking at the hearing. "Will they wear [measuring tapes] on their gun belt? Like the first proposal, these regulations give law-enforcement officials the power to prohibit my right to use a camera in public—and shield itself from lawsuits." December 11, 2007
New York Press: A Downtown Reporter http://adowntownreporter.blogspot.com/2007/08/q-with-juliana-luecking-public-comment.html Interview with Juliana Luecking about the 34,000 email signatures collected by Picture New York, August 6, 2007
Village Voice Blog: Rally Friday for First Amendment Rights http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2007/07/rally_friday_fo.php Features a YouTube video I made about the issue.
Welcome to Hot Topic http://artingstarvist.blogspot.com/search/label/Hot%20Topic/ This features a book and series of paintings from the LeTigre song, "Hot Topic." It features my image because I am mentioned in the song. Excerpt: "The series depicts an informal “who’s who” of feminist icons from the last century, and it is the artist’s hope that these paintings will play a small role in preserving the memory of these influential underground figures."
Kill Rock Stars http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Kill_Rock_Stars Spelled as Juliana Lueking, "The label continued its tradition of spoken word by releasing their first full-length spoken word LP Big Broad by Juliana Lueking in 1995."
Malo, is that enough to go on, or should I send you more information. There are loads of zine reviews, too. If you find the listing is notable and can stay up on Wikipedia, I need to learn how to add these as references. Any recommendations, or a link to learn how would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Juliana Luecking Juliana Luecking 02:19, 30 November 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliana Luecking (talk • contribs)
MSU Interview
[edit]Dear Malo,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 04:01, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Ayub.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ayub.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. File copyright problem with File:Arwen.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Arwen.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sreejith K (talk) 10:37, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

The article Marc Maiffret has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- May not meet notability standards.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 00:30, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Question about image upload
[edit]Hi! i'm on a school proyect to to improve the wikipedia in spanish and I have seen that a lot of articles have missing images. I have edited some articles and I wanted to edit the Final Fantasy Tactics' article, but I don't know if I must do something before using an image about the game (which is copy righted). So my question is if ther'es anything I should do before uploading the image or just upload it and see if it works or what.
Thank you for your time,

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
