Relist?

Hello MBisanz. Just wondering why this AfD was relisted and not closed? The misleading keep !vote was easily rebutted with a heap of evidence (more than 10 other AfDs – in contrast the keep !voters couldn't provide a single case that went in their favour) and I would have thought that was sufficient to make it clear that there is consensus (the only other keep !vote cited the other one, so they effectively were using the same argument). Cheers, Number 57 21:02, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Fenix had asked Jimbo a question that Fenix hadn't responded to. I relisted to avoid Jimbo saying I cut the discussion off mid-stream (he has since responded to Fenix). MBisanz talk 02:49, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. My concern is that if no-one else comments in the next few days, it'll either be relisted again or closed as no consensus simply because another admin will assume that there was no consensus prior to the relisting, and close it that way. Number 57 11:30, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
I've watchlisted it and will close it in the next day or two if no one else responds. MBisanz talk 17:49, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
Great, thank you. Number 57 18:11, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Closed as delete, but shows up in WP:BADAFD. Mark OLoughlin was G7 deleted (ping deleting admin Jo-Jo Eumerus) after AfD had begun, and was recreated as Mark O'Loughlin. — Sam Sailor Talk! 18:46, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

The author of the article created it twice and asked for the O version to be deleted. I did accept the request and shifted the AfD that had been opened in the meantime to the O' title. Seems like after the closure of that AfD is was actually deleted by Ymblanter, though. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:57, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

I would like a little bit more constructive feedback with how this article was deleted so quickly after having been on wikipedia for over 8 years and having been vetted by numerous editors. It seems as though instead of requesting fixes to bring it more in line with current wikipedia standards a small group of editors decided on a whim to delete it. I just logged in an hour ago to do maintenance on any links and references that may need to be corrected and discovered this end result. As I'm sure you are well aware, articles written by such publications as the NY Times and Huffington Post get archived and some relinking does need to be performed on occasion. Bpruck (talk) 00:37, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

The discussion was open 21 days and everyone found the sourcing inadequate. If you can find sourcing, that's one thing, but the indication was that the only reliable source was the NYT and that link was unavailable. If you do have sourcing, submit the article to WP:AFC for recreation. MBisanz talk 01:18, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

It was determined at a community discussion that those sources were not sufficient for inclusion. There must be multiple third-party sources discussing the book and its impact. MBisanz talk 15:19, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Three Cornered Pond

I just saw your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Three Cornered Pond. While the decision to merge was correct, I believe you put the wrong target article. It should be merged to Myles Standish State Forest (as CBS527 initially suggested) and not Myles Standish. Calidum ¤ 02:13, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

I get that Wikipedia:Redirects are cheap, but the consensus here appears to be that there is no content worth merging and no use in redirecting the title, no? czar 00:34, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

It had been an article since 2006, so it's not unreasonable to expect some things to link to it, and as you noted, redirects are cheap. Is it ok? MBisanz talk 00:50, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
If the content had been merged elsewhere or someone was planning to do so or if there were lots of redirects and opportunities for expansion, redirecting would make sense, but I've otherwise seen much fancruft sneak back into articles this way. I read the consensus as to delete... czar 02:40, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
I hope you guys don't mind if I chime in here.
Anyway, sorry, Czar, but I fully agree with the close MBisanz gave it. While "delete" had more votes, no one in the AFD really explained why it should be deleted instead of simply redirected, while I brought up some arguments as to why it should have been redirected instead of deleted. People only explained why it shouldn't be its own article, and that's it. Kokoro20 (talk) 03:42, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Why did you delete this page ? There were no comments at all after two listings, so no consensus; therefore according to Wiki policy it should default to a Keep Burningpetals (talk) 09:19, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Please review Wikipedia:Deletion_process#No_quorum. One of the permissible outcomes is "closing in favour of the nominator's stated proposal", which was deletion. Also, soft deletion is another circumstance where an AFD with no dissenting views to the nominator's may be closed as delete. MBisanz talk 11:24, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

So, why did you not choose soft-delete ? Burningpetals (talk) 12:14, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

could you please explain ...

You closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MIKE URBAN, but you didn't leave an explanation for your closure. Please consider the position of those who voiced keep. Those who voiced delete repeatedly claimed that there were no references. Our policies and procedures strongly encourage everyone involved in an AfD to perform an independent web search, so they have an informed independent opinion as to whether the topic of the article measures up to our notability criteria.

So, you, as the closing administrator, you also performed your independent web search, so you could reach your own informed, independent judgment as to whether the topic of the MIKE URBAN software measured up to our notability criteria, correct?

I haven't really worked on articles on software here, for about a decade. So I would appreciate you explaining why you concluded the topic of MIKE URBAN software didn't measure up to our notability criteria.

I don't need to tell you that an AfD closed as delete doesn't preclude an article on that topic being created, in future, and it doesn't preclude that article being kept -- if it addresses the key reasons the closing administrator gave as the justification for deletion.

So, when a closing administrator, like yourself, doesn't explain the justification for deletion, they pose a problem for anyone considering creating another article on the topic -- if, for instance, new references were published. How can a good faith contributor judge whether their new article would measure up to our notability criteria, when the closing administrator didn't give any clues as to how the original incarnation of an article on that topic fell short? Geo Swan (talk) 13:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with a requirement for persons closing an AFD to independent research the topic. If anything, Wikipedia:Deletion_guidelines_for_administrators#Deciding_whether_to_delete indicates administrators should evaluate other people's arguments and should not close AFDs where they have participated by expressing an opinion.
I closed the MIKE URBAN software discussion as delete because Drmies, RoySmith, MB, and Iridescent believed it lacked sufficient coverage in reliable source to be notable. In particular, RoySmith reviewed the specific sources you extracted from the Google search and determined that they presented insufficient coverage to indicate notability. Only if sources are presented that other people agreed were reliable sources for the topic would it have been a convincing argument that the topic was notable. MBisanz talk 18:23, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Yes he said that, but no one among K.e.coffman, Drmies, or RoySmith expressed a view that any of Geo Swan's sources were reliable. Also, Geo Swan annotated his sources with comments, which presumably were reviewed by RoySmith and formed the basis for which ones he spot checked. MBisanz talk 01:21, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

On AfDs

I'm pretty new to AfDs, so perhaps you could elucidate a few things for me. With all the !votes having occurred in the first day or so, what made you think another week would stimulate further discussion at this AfD? If there are no further comments after another week, would you close it as "no consensus"? What about the one "keep" !vote (from an SPA, the article author and subject) made it so convincing as to challenge the four "delete" !votes? Thanks. ʍw 00:55, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

It's a style preference on my point. No one had responded to him, and if I closed it now, he would come to my talk page and asked why I was cutting off discussion. This way avoids that question. MBisanz talk 01:59, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi MBisanz; it's been a while. I wonder if you could revisit this close; I question the value of redirecting a name to an article that doesn't mention that name, especially when it's a name which belongs to at least one living person. Not only is it potentially problematic to reduce this Dollie Grissam to a single condition, it could potentially be a source of embarrassment for any other Dollie Grissams in the world. Josh Milburn (talk) 02:17, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

I pondered that point, but because no one mentioned it, I didn't want to insert my own opinion. Since you bring it up, I wouldn't object to deleting it or redirecting it to oldest person (which is sort of correct, but not as offensive). MBisanz talk 02:33, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
I'd be inclined to say that there was a consensus for deletion; the one user who supported the redirect did so on the slightly sloppy reasoning that the subject "[m]aybe deserves a mention there". Add this to the possibility of BLP concern and I think there's a good case for outright deletion. (I won't delete it myself for obvious reasons, but if you have mixed feelings I would be happy to send it to deletion review or redirects for discussion.) Sharon Christian, artist

Hi MBisanz, I've been working on an page about the Canadian artist Sharon Christian. There is now lots of non-primary evidence of her notability. When the article was first written, there was little non-primary support, and several editors pointed this out. The error has been corrected. Unfortunately, it looks as if the earlier discussion is shaping the impressions formed by subsequent viewers, and many people are under the impression that evidence needs to be readily accessible on the internet already. But this is clearly not the case: lots of journals and newspapers do not have archives that are on-line, and so it takes painstaking research to dredge up this sort of pre-internet evidence. I reached out to the estate of the artist (I have no vested interest), and the estate provided much of the non-primary source information. I think any unbiased observer would conclude that there is ample evidence of the notability of Sharon Christian. At this stage, I've sunk a lot of time into this page and I'd like to know when a final decision will be made about keeping it. I've presented the case as clearly as I can on the AfD page for the artist. I would appreciate some reassurance that the arbiter of this case will consider carefully what I've written--I am presently unimpressed by the nature of the input from many editors who have chimed in. In almost every case the editors have made only a cursory review of the evidence, which is simply insufficient. Thanks for your hard work on wikipedia. (P.S. are you in the DC area? I just moved here to take a job at the NIH!) Icareaboutart (talk) 18:48, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

A final decision will be made when an uninvolved person reviews the AFD comments. Based on my experience, it is unlikely that the article will survive. You need to convince people who have already said it should be deleted to change their opinion based on your new sources. MBisanz talk 12:58, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beyond Home Entertainment

I think you've made a mistake with your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beyond Home Entertainment. As I said, and supported by Montanabw, Beyond Home Entertainment should be merged with Beyond Television Productions to Beyond International Group. Beyond Home Entertainment is not part of Beyond Television Productions; both are part of Beyond International Group. Merging Beyond Home Entertainment into Beyond Television Productions would be analogous to merging Los Angeles into San Francisco. --AussieLegend () 04:30, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Could you please take another look at this one? Shaletta Porterfield

You wiped out this entire article apparently quickly after I added a bunch of sources to support the previously poorly sourced content. This article was on of a huge package of AfDs launched as an assault on the subject of beauty pageant winners. See the discussion. Your premature closure here is effectively supporting bad behavior. This subject's bizarre arrest and withdrawl are notable and well covered. That was in the article but only sourced for a short time before you closed. This now has to pass WP:GNG. Trackinfo (talk) 09:20, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

The AFD was relisted twice with NewYork Actuary being the only person to express support, and his comment was not on the substance of the article but related to a discussion going on elsewhere. I note that even you did not comment at the AFD, which make it difficult to expect anyone who participated to go back and re-evaluate your new sources. I would suggest you re-submit the article at WP:AFC with the new sources or take it to WP:DRV to contest Johnpacklambert's involvement. MBisanz talk 16:06, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Notability and sources

Hello! You just deleted the page Risto Rekola, and I'm asking why. Reading random articles shows clearly that at least one million articles are unnotable. Alivaltiosihteeri, for example: it has been a stub 12 years and the links lead to nowhere! Within 90 days Rekola's page views were 10 times higher on English side. On the Estonian side the article is at the moment more popular than Sofi Oksanen's, Finland's most notable writer. The votes were 4 - 2, so 70% was not achieved. Finnusertop didn't answer the questions, nor English or Finnish, most arguments were poor, like lawyer-text that any self-respecting writer avoids to read. The palindromes are not just playing with words but can be useful in teaching to read - maybe not in English but in phonemic languages. I think this is censorship. "I would not feel so all alone: everybody must get stoned!". The same criteria should be used in all articles. With best regards Risto hot sir (talk) 18:59, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Other commenters felt that there were not sufficient sources available to establish the author is notable. It is not a vote, but rather a discussion of sources, which may be in languages other than English. Also, the fact that other articles on Wikipedia do not meet the sourcing standard is not a reason to retain an article. MBisanz talk 00:37, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

It's obvious, that many articles are so unnotable that people even don't notice them or don't want to lose time in deleting. --Risto hot sir (talk) 17:10, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, MBisanz. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Request to Reinstate Bentley Systems Wikipedia article, please

Hi Mbisanz,

On July 7, 2016, you had deleted the Bentley Systems Wikipedia article and I would like to ask you to review my request for reinstating the page on the talk page for the deleted article located here (I didn't want to junk up your personal Talk page :-).

Thank you for your time! I'm new to Wikipedia so I apologize if I didn't follow procedures properly. I just wanted to be sure that you did see my talk post for the deleted page.

--MBouch16 (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

There is a restored copy of the article at User:MBouch16/Bentley Systems. Add the new sources you found to the article, and then submit it to WP:AFC, where it will be reviewed for reinstatement. MBisanz talk 13:01, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

--MBisanz Thank you so much! I very much appreciate the quick response :-). I do have a question for you that I hope you don't mind answering. On the WP:AFC page, do I need to click on "Click here to Create an article Now" button and rebuild the article? Or, is there a trick to editing the restored copy that you copied over to my user account and then submitting that? I'm fine with rebuilding it if need be. Sorry, I tried figuring it out myself. There's a lot to learn here and I want to be careful not to do anything I am not supposed to do and that I do this correctly. Thanks!

--MBouch16 (talk) --MBouch16 (talk) 13:12, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
When it's ready at User:MBouch16/Bentley Systems, let me know and I'll move things around so the submission works at WP:AFC. MBisanz talk 21:16, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
--MBisanz Got it. Thank you! --MBouch16 (talk) 17:32, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, --MBisanz.

I have another question for you...I don't want to change the article too much as not to break any conflict of interest rules. One of the reasons the page was deleted was for issues with notability and in the talk section of the deleted page, I listed many, many external references (200+) to Bentley systems, however, I wanted to list these references for the person creating the new article to use for their research and not add them all to the article myself thereby junking up the article. I think the page would look pretty hideous if I listed all the references I had (200+) saying.

So, my question is, do I update the page you copied over to me with the bare minimum to get it back up again, and then add my huge list of references in the talk page for the person creating the article to reference for notability and let them add what they feel is important to the article? Or should I submit the whole shebang (200+ references and all) and let the person reviewing the article trim the fat? Thanks!

So, I saved a recent version of hidden page you restored for me here to show you what I mean: User:MBouch16/Bentley Systems. Pay special notice to section 5 labeled "For The Wikipedia Admin Creating this article - PLEASE READ". Is something like this acceptable for an article submission? I don't expect the article to have the items listed this way, I just wanted to give the article writer references for their research.

Please do not submit yet as I am not finished. I just wanted to see if I am on the right track. Thank you!

--MBouch16 (talk) 18:41, 8 September 2016 (UTC)--MBouch16 (talk) 18:13, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

I would leave out the Section 5 reference; maybe put it on the talk page. I also would not include all 200 citations that reference the company. I would focus on citations that discuss the company in detail, like "Bentley Systems at 30". A three paragraph article with 10 solid citations is better than a five paragraph article with a list of 100 references. MBisanz talk 18:03, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

--MBisanz Hi, I have completed the article for Bentley Systems located at User:MBouch16/Bentley Systems. Could you please assist me with getting this submitted to WP:AFC like you mentioned in one of your comments above? Please let me know if there is anything else that you need from me. I would like to get this page in the queue for reinstatement as soon as possible as I understand that this may take a while to get reviewed. Thank you so much for all your help! --MBouch16 (talk) 19:23, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

--Hi MBisanz, I haven't heard back as I am sure you are busy. Is there anything I can do to get this page at least submitted into the queue? I'm happy to do it. I'm just not sure what to do. Thank you! --MBouch16 (talk) 17:35, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

--MBisanz Hi! Hope you are doing well. Just checking in on my two previous requests to get your help on submitting User:MBouch16/Bentley Systems to WP:AFC? Help, please? Thanks! --MBouch16 (talk) 15:25, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you!! --MBouch16 (talk) 15:56, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

--MBisanz Hi, again. I received notification from SwisterTwister talk that the article you assisted me with submitting was rejected. I am in total confusion at this point. I spent weeks gathering external references and citations and worked with you (thank you, btw) to make sure I stayed on track. I am just not understanding why the Bentley Systems article that has been on Wikipedia since 2004 suddenly gets deleted after 12 years? I supplied many verifiable external references to prove notability for everything that is currently on the page (which wasn't changed much) and it still got rejected. I am not understanding how a $600+ million company who has been referenced in books and news articles is not considered notable. I'm in doubt that the citations and references I supplied were actually reviewed. Honestly, if none of the references that I provided don't provide notability, then I am at a total loss here.

I would like to take the next step and request a formal appeal to reinstate the Bentley Systems article page. Also, I have been informed that SwisterTwister talk or yourself is WP:INVOLVED by @PamD:. You can see the discussion here where she left a comment on my request for advice on this AFC submission. I would like to kindly ask that whatever the next step is, that SwisterTwister talk or yourself (if that's who @PamD: referenced) is not part of the review process due to the fact that either of you may be WP:INVOLVED. I would like this page reviewed by another admin that has never been involved with this article as I feel that something is not right here.

Could you please advise on how I may move forward with the appeal process if you don't have any other options for me at this time? Again, many thanks for your assistance. I'm just trying my best here to do what's right and get the Bentley Systems article back up. Thank you. --MBouch16 (talk) 16:57, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Bhavna Limbachia

Around a year ago you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bhavna Limbachia (2nd nomination) as "redirect to Citizen Khan", but even at the time this looked like a borderline case. Since then she has been given a permanent part as Rana Habeeb in Coronation Street, a well-known British soap opera, I suggest this justifies reconsidering the decision. For an EL see [2]. PatGallacher (talk) 23:01, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

I would be fine changing the redirect target to the list of characters. MBisanz talk 23:51, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
OK, but I suggest that she may now be notable in her own right. PatGallacher (talk) 11:45, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
I just took another look at sources found via Google News, and about the best I found are passing mentions like this and this. Much about her role, about two lines of text about Limbachia, basically a list of past roles. I don't think this amounts to "significant coverage" required by the general notability guideline. Huon (talk) 20:24, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
That's only one person's opinion, not an admin's advice. PatGallacher (talk) 12:35, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Well, it happens to be the opinion of one person who also is an admin. You don't need an admin's permission to write a new article if you think the subject now meets notability requirements, though; I happen to think Limbachia still doesn't. Thus I'd immediately re-AFD an article about her if it were based on no better sources than the above. Of course you're welcome to prove me wrong by showing that there is significant media coverage which I just haven't found. Huon (talk) 18:48, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
I would suggest you submit the article to WP:AFC to have an independent third-party review it or that you take it to WP:DRV. MBisanz talk 12:10, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi MBisanz. You deleted Kamalika Chanda as a result of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kamalika Chanda about a month ago, but it has just been recreated by a new account. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:44, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi again MBisanz. Just to update, the article was tagged per G4 by another editor and was subsequently deleted by another admin. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:24, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Whoops. Sorry for not getting back to you. MBisanz talk 12:10, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Userfication

I can't recall the etiquette/process for userfication of a deleted article someone else deleted. The author of Mazen Khaddaj, which you deleted per an AFD, has asked that it be userfied. Edror, it was deleted because people felt it had insufficient sourcing to justify which obfuscators should be included (none of which were notable) and because it was formulated as a promotional piece, instead of an encyclopedic article. MBisanz talk 04:41, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Are you sure there was a consensus in that discussion? WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 00:46, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes. Several other people comments after you provided sources and believed it should be deleted. Even SmokeyJoe was split between Keep and Merge. MBisanz talk 01:03, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm a bit mystified as well. In any case, if I had worked a bit more, there was more interesting expansion that was possible (and lots of copy-editing, my writing isn't that great). I just figured I had expanded it enough. If I'm still interested and can put some more time into it, what is the best way forward, do you think? One option is to wait a little while (how long?) after the merge, then revert the redirect and add new material and see if anyone wants to send it back to AfD. Another option would be to take the article to AfC as is and develop it there. A third would be to do the expansion to the article now, before the merge (a merge is a type of keep, in any case) and then let someone decide if it should go back to AfD. I think either of the last two would be most pleasant for me. In any case, I don't want to be disruptive or anti-consensus, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks, Smmurphy(Talk) 02:09, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

I would suggest WP:AFC so that a neutral party has reviewed it before it goes back into the project. MBisanz talk 00:34, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. That is what I thought you would suggest. Perhaps the right thing to do, then, is to move the current page to draft-space (I've never used AfC, but I think that is where it goes, right?). I/we will merge stuff from it to the Nebraska articles as best we can, and can continue to edit the Cy Sherman page there, notifying a neutral party when we think it is ready. WikiOriginal-9, MBisanz, does that sound correct to you two? Smmurphy(Talk) 01:01, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that is the right approach. MBisanz talk 12:00, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Afd Clinton Ehrlich

Dear MBisanz,

You closed recently the discussion in Afd/Clinton Ehrlich. I think you misinterpreted the consensus.

(I was posting from an IP address in the discussion. Now I have made my Wikipedia account so my contribution are not called "spam")

The user "Lourdes" said he did his best and could not find any sources. How is it possible? Already in the Afd page some users posted 9 links to sources. Also in the article there are many citations to sources. And my one google search shows many extra sources for addition.

Nobody in the discussion said these sources are bad. People who wanted to delete the subject just pretended they could not find such sources. If there is a criticism of the sources I am happy to discuss this topic. But no discussion of such a type occurred.

All users who actually recognized sources said yes, keep the subject. But to help you I will imagine arguments and explain problems.

Are the mentions trivial? No. Almost all sources are 100% about the subject.

Are sources reliable and independent? Yes, lots of big sources like BBC and RIA Novosti. In actuality two journalists wrote long biography type article with many negative comments attacking this subject.

One user "reddogsix" said at very beginning the sources are from author. This is false. Only one source from author, the article of Foreign Policy. All the rest are independent. Yes, most mention this article. And what? The subject is notable for political writing, so it is normal fact that sources are discussing his writing.

In wikipedia rules it says ""Availability of secondary sources covering the subject is a good test for notability." There are dozens such sources about the subject!

In my country, the subject became a very big news topic after his views were revealed in a Foreign Policy article. His opinions were reported in many radio programs and electronic newspapers. For me, it is very funny to learn he is not notable on Wikipedia when I try to learn about him.

Thank you for considering this problem!

ReinhardStove (talk) 07:43, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

The people in the discussion felt that the sources not non-trivial WP:SECONDARY sources. I am sorry, but the other participants were quite clear in their opinion and no one agreed with your evaluation of the sources. MBisanz talk 11:59, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Dear MBisanz,

I am not sure how you reached such a conclusion. Please look again. The facts are the opposite.

The Afd was relisted on 20 October by Admin Sandstein. Three users posted saying KEEP. One was me, two others I do not know. Each message had actual arguments and discussed sources like BBC etc.

Then the original nominator of deletion, the User RedDogSix, pastes same message three times: "DELETE. Lacks non-trivial WP:SECONDARY sources."

No response to all to many sources linked in Afd discussion. Nothing. Just asserting without fact.

Then User Lourdes says "DELETE" because he "tried my best" and cannot find sources. Never says that sources linked in Afd are bad. Just pretends not to find them.

This means after relisting vote is 3-2 for KEEP.

More important, Wikipedia rules say consensus is not voting. "Consensus is formed through the careful consideration, dissection and eventual synthesis of different perspectives presented during the discussion, and is not calculated solely by number of votes."

Please show me where in the Afd there was discussion of the sources? KEEP users gave links for big news stories from BBC, RIA Novostic, and many other. Where is any response to such sources from users wanting to DELETE?

Without any such responses there is no consensus for a deletion. Please correct this mistake. Thank you!

Wish to recover Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Abdollahian

Could you please reply ???

Dear MBisanz,

I am Dr. Abdollahian's previous student. Recently you deleted page Mark Abdollahian (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Abdollahian closed as delete). I have read through all the concerns from the comments listed on this link. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mark_Abdollahian

I understand that Wikipedia page needs to provide all readers a neutral language environment for all the pages. But I am not convinced by an entire deletion of this page without any notice. All the content involved in this wiki page did have reality supports, and also the page does not have problems since it first been approved for such a long time. I am not sure why it been deleted by such reason.

But if needed, we can modify the language there and update the references for the publication as we can. But upon the deletion, we cannot do anything about it since we don't have the login id for the original creator of the page.

And under the current situation, we wish and require to recover this page as soon as possible so that we will be able to edit it. And as well as Dr. Abdollahian may need this page anytime very soon.

Hope you can considerate the situation and I am looking forward to your response as soon as possible. Thanks.

Sincerely, Renee — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reneemoon (talkcontribs) 18:57, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

I've put a copy at User:Reneemoon/Mark Abdollahian. MBisanz talk 21:36, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi MBisanz, Thank you for move a copy to my page. I am wondering does that the worldcat identities page for Mark Abdollahian is a way to show his notability? e.g. http://www.worldcat.org/identities/np-abdollahian,%20mark/ Reneemoon (talk) 01:16, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Renee

Check with someone like User:DGG, but no, WorldCat pages are usually not sufficient. MBisanz talk 01:54, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Reneemoon, he does not meet either of the relevant standards, WP:PROF or WP:AUTHOR. WhatWorldCat indicates depends on what is actually shown there. In his case, it isn't enough. He has written no books. He has written a number of articles , almost all of which are not substantially cited according to GoogleScholar , and he has written chapters in books, which count even less than articles. He does not hold a professorship, but a Clinical Professorship, which is a title for someone whose interests in the nonacademic world qualify him to give instruction in the practical side of a subject, but is not a regular academic. Experience here shows that a person (or their research assistant) is not able to judge objectively their own importance or encyclopedic notability, much less to write an objective article that would not be an advertisement. When he does something notable, such as write best-selling books published by major publishers, someone without a conflict of interest will write a suitable article. DGG ( talk ) 08:23, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

DGG, I want to clarify couple points and list out some points to address your concerns. Also, I am wondering how you can qualify an academic paper as "substantially cited article"?

First of all, from Claremont Graduate University academic rank, Dr. Mark Abdollahian holds a FULL RANK professorship, why it is called “Clinical” is because this professor is not on a tenure track. You can view the position from school’s CV ‘Clinical Professor, Full Rank.’

Secondly, I want to clarify that he has written books, such as Power Transition Strategies for the 21st century and worked with other authors including Jacek Kugler, and A.F.K. Organski. This book has been cited more than 400 times on Google Scholar, please see https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=power+transitions+mark+abdollahian&btnG=&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5.

From your point of view that he does not meet either of the relevant standards, I have gone through WP:PROF and listed following point of views to show that he meets the standards. As WP:PROF mentioned, meet on any of the criteria will qualify for the WP:PROF criteria.

1. The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources. As stated on http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics), without considering his published books, articles or book chapters, his new concepts of prediction been proved so that the CNN interviewed him on his prediction (http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/07/politics/egypt-predictive-analysis/ ) As well as he worked with Dr. Nunberg from World Bank and published a paper on World Bank. http://www1.worldbank.org/publicsector/anticorrupt/feb06course/operationalizing%20Political%20Analysis.pdf

2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level. US higher education faculty awards: Business, education, health sciences and nursing, Law, Medicine, Political and Policy Sciences, and Public Affairs: Best Researcher (page.69) https://books.google.com/books?id=KsC7CwAAQBAJ&pg=PA69&dq=mark+abdollahian+world+bank&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwitxYKRkZDQAhVrwlQKHbnbBEwQ6AEIGzAA#v=onepage&q=mark%20abdollahian%20world%20bank&f=false

3. The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciencesor the Royal Society) or a Fellow of a major scholarly society for which that is a highly selective honor (e.g., the IEEE). He is a member of ISA (International Studies Association), APSA (American Political Science Association), and CSSSA (Computational Social Science of the Americas). He is Board of directors of TallBerg Foundation (http://www.tallbergfoundation.org/organization/mark-abdollahian/ ; http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/T%C3%A4llberg_Forum ), as well as Board of directors of Trans Research Consortium (http://transresearchconsortium.com/#news-section ).

7. The person has made substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity. As mentioned on Criteria 1, in his academic capacity he has made substantial impact outside the academia. These can been viewed from these independent Interviewed and someone without COI writes a suitable article: 1. CNN interview – Team of political scientists saw Egypt’s turmoil coming http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/07/politics/egypt-predictive-analysis/ 2. CNN interview – State Department hopes it can find peace among data http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/30/politics/state-data-analysis 3. BBC: Predicting the future: focusing the news of tomorrow http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20120206-forecasting-the-news-of-tomorrow 4. Wired: Pentagon’s Prediction Software Didn’t Spot Egypt Unrest https://www.wired.com/2011/02/pentagon-predict-egypt-unrest/

TedX speech: http://www.tedxlasierrauniversity.com/speakers/dr-mark-abdollahian/ http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/Venture-Into-the-Impossible-with At the 2016 China Gui’an• Global Intelligent Terminal Industry Innovation and Development Summit and China Big Data and AI Academician Forum, he was invited and gave a speech on his discipline studies on big data analytics. http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTY0MDM0MDY0OA==.html http://www.gaxq.gov.cn/xwdt/gayw/13928.shtml

Rather than those, he has also been mentioned in these medias such as Hill + Knowlton Strategies (http://www.hkstrategies.com/the-expanding-role-of-predictive-analytics/); Loft (http://www.acertas-analytics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/LOFT_PDF.pdf)

If above content has addressed your concerns, I would briefly talk about where I am going to modify the previous his wiki page on the condition of without a COI. 1. Make words to be neutral. E.g. can list all the places he lectures around the world with reference, or get rid of this sentence. 2. Remove extra content which cannot find sources. 3. Add additional sources especially on his works/articles that can prove his notability, such as above WP:PROF links. 4. Update his recent works.

Looking forward to your respond. Thanks.

Reneemoon (talk) 23:13, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Renee

1/Just as you say , "clinical"is not tenure track. It therefore doesn't count as even implying academic significance. 2/He is one of 8authors who contributed a portion to the textbook. The book is however widely held, so it might be significant -- WorldCat shown about 800 holding libraries. 3/ CNN interviews he gave do not count towards notability. 4/Ted is significant, Tedx is not. 4/Being a member of the field's professional organization is not significant. Being President of it would be. 5/ and in a way the most important: . "US Higher EducationFaculty Awards" is a vanity Publication; he wrote it himself--more exactly, he let his extremely self-important bio from his the university page be copied onto it. It's proof of a promotional intent, and further evidence that a person or his assistant should not write their own biographical article in an encyclopedia . Although I am interested in increasing WP coverage of academic faculty, I do not help anyone do self-advertising, but rather try to remove it when found. . DGG ( talk ) 00:42, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks DGG for getting back to me. And thank you for the reminder for the #5. I was random search online and found it, however, it never been listed anywhere in his CV, and seems not knowing the source, and I will not put it in an encyclopedia.

As you said the 2/ although he is one of the eight authors, but the book shown about 800 holding libraries which might be significant. Additionally, he has another published book, as you can seen from here: http://www.worldcat.org/title/senturion-a-predictive-political-simulation-model/oclc/341597608?lang=en. Although it is not as much holdings as the other one, but as it shown in the author/publisher or the link below to find a copy online (gpo.gov), it looks to me significant. And as criteria defined any of the 9 criteria meet, will be a significant. If 2/ consider as significant, I would like to put his wikipedia back. But I will try my best to make it no self-advertising, state neutral, and without COI. And please feel free to give any advice and suggestions if anything you think inappropriate, I would be like to edit and make it better.

Thank you for your time. Reneemoon (talk) 03:15, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Renee

Reneemoon, the item you mention just above is not a book, but a 22 page pamphlet. I do not think you have the objectivity to judge the material for this article. Ifyou want to continue, please use your talk page and notify me. DGG ( talk ) 03:33, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of the page Mike Williams Dj

I do not think the right call was made to delete Mike Williams Dj's page as he is not "a run of the mill" dj. He has headlined major EDM festivals and worked with big names in the EDM industry. Kindly consider undeleting the page. Kellyantrobus (talk) 16:15, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but there was a clear consensus to delete. MBisanz talk 12:40, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

AfD decision

Hello. I was just curious with the AfD result for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Padma Shri Awards recipients from sports field so thought of checking with you. It had 6 "Delete" votes (including one by nominator) and 3 "Keep" votes. Still, it was closed as "no consensus". Any specific rational behind this? - Vivvt (Talk) 05:55, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

  • In addition to this, just observed that one of the keepers (Jessie1979) has been indef blocked for the sock puppetry. - Vivvt (Talk) 06:23, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
  • I went with no consensus because there seemed to be a reasonable disagreement over how to apply the category and list guidelines. It's unfortunate that one of the contributors ended up being a sockpuppet, but am I right in understanding that Jessie did not use one of their other accounts to influence this discussion? A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi MBisanz.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Saturday December 3: Contemporary Chinese Art Edit-a-thon @ Guggenheim

On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia, and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. Editors are invited to view the exhibition Tales of Our Time following the event.

The Guggenheim aims to raise awareness of the artists featured in the Tales of Our Time exhibition supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa, and Art+Feminism.

review of Mark Abdollahian's new article

Hello MBisanz,

I am in the process of put this article back up, which we have had a discussion about earlier. Please find if here. As DGG mentioned, "2/He is one of 8authors who contributed a portion to the textbook. The book is however widely held, so it might be significant -- WorldCat shown about 800 holding libraries." which can be interpreted as he meets the WP:PROF criteria 1. In addition, I have edited the article and removed the promotion part, change the language to be neutral and added more recent academic external references. Since you have been familiar with this article, I wish to ask for you review before I actually do it. Could you please take some time to help to review whether it is okay to up the article again? Thank you so much.

Please see the article below (with a portion of the main Bibliography due to too long). Reneemoon (talk) 07:48, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

On John Wheeler (audio/video technologist)

Hey Matthew, I'm John. I saw the page about me was deleted. Funny I feel a little relieved. It had been started when I had just created Penteo by PR people who documented all the different fields I'd worked in when we had started EDnet at Skywalker Ranch. Yes, I did invent a lot, but most of that stuff -- unique at the time -- is commonplace now. I just happened to bring to to the attention of people who could get it into the mainstream. I have a great life now -- as usual on the bleeding edge of technology -- but nothing unique. I sold controlling interest in Penteo to Tony Chapman several years ago. I'm just proud to know my "baby" (it took 3 years to write) is now used in so many blockbuster motion pictures. Original AfD on Hinterschellenberg was deleted

You closed the deletion discussion for Hinterschellenberg today, with the conclusion being that there was no consensus. Is there a reason why it would be deleted at this time (for its possibly longer duration, or lack of opinions voiced at the discussion page) and the original page kept, and left up, with no notices? I wouldn't mind if it were extended for a while, perhaps so that more ideas could be shared. Thank you. Ramires451 (talk) 03:25, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

It was already extended twice. The page is left up because a decision of "no consensus" means the page is not deleted. There would need to be a new AFD with an outcome of "delete" for it to be deleted. MBisanz talk 23:08, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I understand. Just to find your opinions on it, do you think that I should open it again, or from what you saw, to keep it? I still retain my original opinion that it would be better if it were removed, but I'd be happy to hear your views and thoughts, as well as those of other users. Besides, I don't want to open another discussion if it's clear that only I would support it, nothing gets done, and our time is wasted. Thank you very much for the help. Ramires451 (talk) 02:33, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
There's a general presumption that if a place exists, it may have an article. You would need strong evidence that it is not really a recognized place, which the other two people disagreed with. I suspect Wikipedia has a lack of experts in this area, so no one would feel strongly about removing it unless it was a hoax or had no recognition (one of the people cited a government website referring to the location). Deletion of page for "Andy LoCascio"

I am the subject of this page. It appears that some of the references were deemed inadequate. Could you please restore the page? I will immediately work with the references to be sure that my name appears more prominently (specifically ScotusBlog). I will also update the article with more recent references. This is regarding my efforts in the IT industry.

I will also add addition references for my continued contributions to the fishing community.

Thank you for your consideration.

Is there some way I can be notified the next time a deletion discussion occurs for this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Locascioa (talkcontribs) 18:47, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I cannot undelete the article. There was a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andy LoCascio where the community determined it should not be retained. You would need to apply to WP:DRV to have it reinstated. Also, please review Wikipedia:Autobiography. MBisanz talk 03:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi MBisanz, would you please take a look at the response at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countering systemic bias#Pop & Suki? Wanted to run it past you before going into deletion review czar 08:56, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

I see their point, but I was limited by the views expressed at the AFD. I don't mind at all if this goes to DRV to establish the point you and GR are making about coverage by publications that do both serious and advertorial articles. MBisanz talk 12:42, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Undeletion of Checkmarx

I posted on the talk page of Checkmarx asking to remove the protection on the page. I re-wrote the article using non-promotional language and using up to date, relevant and reputable resources. On top of that I believe that the circumstances have changed and that the company has grown and is now relevant to Wikipedia. Can you undelete / remove the protection from the page? אגם רפאלי (talk) 12:27, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Mayorkun

Hello , actually I was told by an wikipedia admin to reach you regarding the deletion for Mayorkun. I recreated the article Mayorkun because am writing a different content about the Subject but it was speedy deleted because the subject as being discussed in an AFD discussion Mayorkun. Talking about the AFD discussion for the previous article that was created by a wikipedia editor, the article was not supposed to be deleted because their was only one censuses who voted which was a Sockpuppet and have been block from editing Wikipedia according to Wikipedia policy. I believe the article Mayorkun which I recreated meets it's criteria while looking at WP:GNG and WP:MUSICBIO which was speed deleted by an admin who directed me to you , I think I will suggest the recreated version should be moved to main space then any editor is entitled to nominate the article for deletion if he or she think a discussion should be made. Please I would like you to look at the AFD discussion from a block users. Thanks Donald422 (talk) 01:26, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

I would suggest you submit the recreated article through WP:AFC and ask User:Oluwa2Chainz to review it. MBisanz talk 04:03, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Kislay Panday which has been deleted by MBisanz

Hey MBisanz

Hope you are well

Please refer to my article about 'Kislay Pandey' which was deleted by you as at that time you were not convinced as to whether his name page should be there on Wikipedia Or not so therefore you recommend the deletion. Now at this stage I have enough Material/News paper coverage to establish that Mr. Panday deserves to be on Wikipedia due to his Recent achievements in various controversial issues of india.

Please be kind enough to suggest as to how should I proceed ahead so that Again the same is not subjected for delation.

Deletion discussion that you closed back in September of last year, for a radio station in Minnesota that was still only a construction permit at that point. I'm seeing from FCC records that the station was issued its broadcast license on January 17th; wondering if you'd object to the article being restored as a result? Mlaffs (talk) 22:56, 12 February 2017 (UTC)

If that is the usual criteria for radio stations, I have no objection. MBisanz talk 02:49, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
It is — broadcast license has historically been considered the bar to clear for notability. Thanks very much. Mlaffs (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
Then I have no objection to it being restored. MBisanz talk 23:36, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Tristan.andrade.136

Hi MB, I'm curious about this user name change. Tristan.andrade.136 was indefinitely blocked for competence issues on the English Wikipedia. (They also have a history of sockpuppetry.) I don't see anything constructive globally in recent years. Do we normally perform user name changes for someone who's not presently allowed to edit? I don't see the point. I'm curious about the backstory on this but I can't find any public name change request. Any info on this would be appreciated. Regards and thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:14, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • A recent query shows that only 16% of administrators on the English Wikipedia have enabled two-factor authentication. If you haven't already enabled it please consider doing so.
  • Cookie blocks should be deployed to the English Wikipedia soon. This will extend the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user after they switch accounts under a new IP.
  • A bot will now automatically place a protection template on protected pages when admins forget to do so.

Artist Publishing Group

Hi there. I saw that you deleted the page, I was wondering what reasons motivated you to delete the page and what needs to be done to undo the deletion. I am new to Wikipedia and trying my best to abide to all rules. Please advise. Thank you. Ab34hj788 (talk) 19:35, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

I deleted it per the comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Artist Publishing Group. You need to re-write the article so that it has a neutral tone and is based on reliable sources. I suggest working on the article and submitting it through WP:AFC when you are ready. MBisanz talk 23:02, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Kyle Schlesinger

Hi MBisanz. Would you mind taking a look at Kyle Schlesinger. It survived Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kyle Schlesinger back in 2009, but the article has been tagged as not being supported by citations to any reliable sources since March 2016. The version of the article kept did seem to have a number of sources cited, but these have been gradually removed since then with the last being removed here. If the sources were not RS, then removing them is probably fine; however, that just leaves a completely unreferenced BLP which is usually not a good thing. Any suggestions on what to do here? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:43, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Article has been nominated for deletion a second time, so that should sort things out one way or another. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:08, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Aleksandra Alac

Greetings. I'm not contesting the deletion of this article, but I thought she was notable, an accomplished actress for her age (from a theatrical family), and with a significant part in an important tv series. But no really substantive articles in solid journals, etc, and no coverage from any west or north European entities. I stand by my statement that there's little intellectual or artistic exchange between mainstream 'Western' culture and the Balkans. Compare Ms Alač with Sandra Afrika from the same part of the world. Administrator changes

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

Creation of a page on a deleted subject - Scott Joiner

MBisanz, Earlier this year, a page for singer/composer Scott Joiner was created and deleted after considerable debate as to notability. The page was very nearly saved, but the consensus was "too soon." Since that time the composer has won two major awards, has been featured in an interview for NPR's All Things Considered and separately for Market Watch, a News Corp subsidiary, among other accomplishments. I want to recreate the article (it was saved on the internet by deletionpedia, with new sources. I will cut out any unverifiable information. I want to follow protocol and avoid having the article deleted, as it would be my first article contribution to wikipedia. Thanks for your help. HexaKord415 (talk) 17:10, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

[Swiss UMEF University]

Hi MBisanz. Just thought I'd mention that the redirect from UMEF to Dunya University of Afghanistan is wrong because the former is accredited at its location in Switzerland and the latter is accredited in Afghanistan. While the former is the basis of the latter it has been its own school (under this name and others) for 30 years.Bizetshine (talk) 00:53, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but that was the consensus of the discussion. MBisanz talk 16:38, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
I guess my moaning is about consensus then, because I didn't see consensus and the fact is that Swiss UMEF University simply isn't Dunya. I have, though, learned not to ask for help when editing! In any case, thanks for your efforts.Bizetshine (talk) 00:36, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Template:Fairusein

Greetings, is there a particular reason why Template:Fairusein is a soft redirect rather than a plain one? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:47, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Back in 2008, external websites apparently looked for templates beginning with "Non-free..." to figure out which content was non-free (or at least that was the idea). If it was a plain redirect, people could transclude the template and break the naming convention. The soft redirect retained the lengthy history of the template, but prevented its use. Reason behind deletion of the page Nabeel A. Qadeer

Dear MBisanz,

I hope you are doing well.

Deleted page - "Andre Duza"

Please forgive me if I'm not following the proper etiquette here. I'm simply reaching out to ask that you consider reinstating my Wikipedia page. It was deleted back in 2009 as a result of the following discussion: (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Andre_Duza)

After 8 years, I think I've accomplished enough to warrant reinstatement. Thanks and have a great day. AMeduza (talk) 17:01, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

You would need new independent / third-party sources documenting why your activities are notable. If you have those sources, please submit a new article at WP:AFC. MBisanz talk 00:30, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Russell Reyes closed as redirect to BoybandPH

Russell Reyes is famous enough. He deserves to have a wikipedia page just like his band co-members Niel Murillo and Joao Constancia. Yesterday on twitter, he was the no.1 trending in the Philippines. Please think over your decision. He is also the BPH member who got the highest score from the judges and text votes. Even Lea Salonga was amazed by his talent. If his band co-members can be on wikipedia then why can't he? Also, I don't understand why would someone request to delete Russell Reyes' article but be fine with Niel Murillo's and Joao Constancia's articles. I need an explanation. Thank you. Bphfangirl7 (talk) 11:07, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but he needs coverage in independent sources to be notable enough for inclusion. MBisanz talk 01:28, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Getting caught up in Global Blocks

Hello,

As a registered user for many years, retired ArbCom clerk and retired en-wiki Administrator (voluntarily due to reduced activity), I was surprised to get caught up in a global block which prevented me from making any changes on any wikis, both talkpages and user talkpages, including the page to request IP block exemption on Meta, and talk pages of stewards.

I sent an email to the stewards mailing list on the 9th of May, to which I received no reply. I sent a further message on the 16th, as well as to the blocking administrator. Again, no reply.

Clearly something has changed which allows me to post on en-Wiki as well as fr-Wiki, which was not the case, but I'm still completely blocked on Meta.

Details of the block are as follows:

Your account or IP address has been blocked. 196.75.0.0/16, you have been blocked by Matanya until 15:03, 28 May 2017, because: This IP address is being used for spam. If you are a legit user affected by this block please email stewards@wikimedia.org. What can I do now? You can email Matanya or another administrator (list) to contest the block. You cannot use the email this user feature unless a valid email address is specified in your account preferences, has been confirmed, and you are not disallowed from using it while blocked. Your current IP address is [redacted] and the block ID is #104125. Please include this in any queries. Blocked users can edit their own user talk page, unless specifically disallowed from doing so (if you are not logged in as a registered user, this will be the talk page for your IP address). You can add [code] to your user talk page to request unblocking. If the block reason seems unrelated to you, it is possible you were affected by a software feature known as the autoblock. In that case, contact an administrator and they will do their best to remove the autoblock. Please note that, for technical reasons, removing the autoblock is not always possible. In such cases, you may need to wait 24 hours for the autoblock to expire. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have happened.

Please could you investigate and help me to avoid this recurring in the future.

Thanks, Alexandr Dmitri (talk) 08:36, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Review:Dice Ailes

Good Day MBisanz, an article you deleted in 2016, due to lack of WP:GNG Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dice Ailes. I wrote an article on that same subject but this time it meet's WP:GNG criteria's and it has been discussed extensively by independent reliable sources and He has been been nominated by major music award's. It got nominated for the second time Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dice Ailes (2nd nomination) after it meet's it criteria this time.

reliable source: Newspaper's & Magazine's

It was also said it fail's WP:MUSICBIO in it's first nomination for deletion made in 2016 and also on it's second deletion nomination made last week Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dice Ailes (2nd nomination) which is still active.

The article meet's WP:MUSICBIO criteria (1, 8, 10, 11 and 12)
  • Criteria 1 = Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself
  • Criteria 8 = He has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as The Headies 2016 Award. He was nominated for Rookie of The Year.
  • Criteria 10 = He has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g Felabration 2016 and also inclusion on a notable compilation album know as The Indestructible Choc Boi Nation on two major song's "Drank" and "Oh No No".
  • Criteria 11 = Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio Rhythm 93.7 FM Lagos and also his new song "Ella" was titled "Rhythm Hit Song Of The Week" for April 2017 hit list [16]
  • Criteria 12 = He has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio know as The Beat 99.9 FM on a show popularly known as "The Drive Time Show", a radio show hosted by Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi [17] and TV network known as Channels TV on an interview with them [18]

With all this i have been able to put together to show you the subject "Dice Ailes" can have a stand alone article and it's not a case of WP:TOOSOON. Please make a review for the article, thank you.--Obari2Kay (talk) 11:27, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

It appears that it was retained at the AFD. MBisanz talk 12:36, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Question about Stratajet deletion

Hi, can you please advise on how to get the Stratajet page that I drafted up and running again? I don't understand how the page differs from that of JetSmarter, for example, a similar private jet booking company, which has a valid wiki page. A number of the reasons cited for deleting the Stratajet page are that the references are based too much on PR. But so are the ones in the [JetSmarter] page and this still stands.

I believe the article to be of significance and, as above, believe the sources to be credible, but would happily attempt to redraft it from a neutral point of view, if that is what is required.

I would greatly appreciate your help in this matter. Jamesgwinnett (talk) 15:01, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

James, it doesn't matter if another company has an article because it could be the case that the JetSmarter's article will be similarly nominated for deletion in the future. For Stratajet to have an article, it would need more coverage in third-party sources that are unaffiliated with the company and would need to be written from a neutral tone. Deletion of Bob Cruz

I strongly disagree with the deletion of Bob Cruz.

The remarks of User_talk:TheMagnificentist and User:Power~enwiki are inconsistent with the record: the Billboard Magazine mention of Cruz, in light of the Survey documenting the replacing of Dan Ingram makes Cruz notable.

According to Wikipedia guidelines:

...the person who is the topic of a biographical article should be "worthy of notice" ... "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded" within Wikipedia as a written account of that person's life. "Notable" in the sense of being "famous" or "popular" – although not irrelevant – is secondary.

In this case, Cruz is "worthy of notice" (he worked at the number one radio station, in one of the two highest-profiting time slots, and was an announcer on ABC television), and "unusual enough to deserve attention" (he was the last DJ to be hired for the top-40 format, he took over Ingram's time slot, and was one of two on-air personalities at WABC that died of AIDS). In this case, his 4 years as a "famous" person is relevant, and more than merely secondary.

The lack of current web sources is attributable to the fact that Cruz died as a young man in 1995, less than a year after the World Wide Web consortium was formed. This should provide merit to a more broad interpretation of "significant coverage".

I respectfully request a deletion review. This will also provide time to find more information sources.

algocu (talk) 14:18, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but without sources, even paper sources, there cannot be significant coverage. If you can find paper sources discussing him, it can be reconsidered. MBisanz talk 02:00, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Keep Infinite Computer Solutions

Hi Matthew, could you please share a detailed explanation for the reason you have suggested deletion of the Infinite Computer Solutions page? Whilst there are couple of promotional words used, this can be resolved through edits and doesn't warrant deletion of the entire page. Look forward to your reasons please. AfD close script

Hey, I noticed that the script (or method) you use to close AfD discussions leaves behind the category attached to the relist template, so someone else has to clean it (example). I highly recommend Evad37's XfD closer, which automates much more of the closure than previous scripts: User:Evad37/XFDcloser I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 16:41, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Oleg Bezuglov - noindex, nofollow in meta

Dear MBisanz,

I noticed that you recently closed the AfD discussion for Oleg Bezuglov as keep. However, the page still has meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow". I thought that must have been the result of the ongoing AfD discussion. Since the discussion was closed, shouldn't the noindex, nofollow parameters in the meta be removed as well? --Fiddler11 21:38, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New Cross Gate Carriage Servicing Depot

I'm curious at how you arrived at the decision you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New Cross Gate Carriage Servicing Depot. The nominator recommended deletion or merging to East London Line, three recommended keeping or keeping and merging with New Cross Gate TMD and only one recommended merging to the station article - and this was the only one that didn't give or reference a rationale for their suggestion, but it was somehow the consensus? Thryduulf (talk) 07:18, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

I did not appreciate the distinction between the station article and the TMD article. I agree I should have closed in favor of TMD. I am out of town for two weeks without desktop access (only cell phone). Could you retarget my close? MBisanz talk 21:24, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Done, thank you. I'll try and get the actual merging done tomorrow. Thryduulf (talk) 21:49, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Jodi Picoult protection still needed?

You indef protected it in 2009, presumably for good reason though I didn't investigate. Overprotection can harm a page too as evidenced by the error reported on the talk page two months ago that is being ignored because he didn't use the magic template. (I did fact-check his claim, but of course I can't make the correction either.) Furrykiller (talk) 22:33, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

  • @Furrykiller:. Mbisanz has indicated above they're away for a few days with limited access so I've taken a look. There was no reason given in the protection log for the indefinite semi-protection, but looking at the page history there seems to have been an issue with copyrighted material being introduced. It's likely that whoever was doing that has learned and/or moved on in the intervening time so I've unprotected it, but I have not made (or checked) the requested edits. If any problems do reoccur then you can request reprotection at WP:RFPP. Thryduulf (talk) 21:59, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Oleg Bezuglov - <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"/> in the code

Hi MBisanz,

I noticed that you put the {INDEX} template in the body of the Oleg Bezuglov article. However, the reason for it not being indexed is in the meta string in the page source - <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"/>. I assume that this somehow relates to the past nominations for deletion. Is it possible to check it somehow? I have no idea how to do it. But you must be able to do so, being an administrator. Thanks in advance! --Fiddler11 03:57, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
