User talk:Lswatt
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Lswatt, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

before the question. Again, welcome! Drm310 đ (talk) 22:39, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Iâm trying to create a Wikipedia page for my dad for Christmas, who is a world renowned architect. He definitely meets the criteria. But I donât really know what Iâm doing, lol. Can you help? Lswatt (talk) 23:20, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- First of all, it is important that you read and understand Wikipedia conflict of interest guidelines (simplified version is at Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide). What you are doing is highly discouraged. Writing about a family member is inherently perilous because of the difficulty you will have writing from the required neutral point of view, objectively evaluating their suitability for inclusion, and avoiding any unpublished personal knowledge or experience. While "discouraged" does not mean "prohibited", please realize that your edits will come under scrutiny due to your connection to the subject.
- Please review the basic notability criteria for people (WP:BASIC), the general additional criteria for people (WP:ANYBIO) and the subject-specific criteria for an architect (WP:ARCHITECT). If he meets any of these three, then he would be considered worthy of inclusion.
- Wikipedia requires subjects to have significant coverage in reliable sources to meet the notability criteria. Passing mentions or inclusion in a list isn't sufficient. Look at Wikipedia:Reliable sources to learn how Wikipedia defines reliable sources. In general, a source is considered reliable if it has an established reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight. This heavily favours mainstream news organizations, academic press, and reputable publishers of newspapers, books and magazines. Sources should also be independent of the subject, with no personal, political or financial interest.
- Then you will need to properly cite your sources so that the content meets the verifiability requirement. For a new editor such as yourself, Help:Referencing for beginners is the best place to start.
- One final thought - making an article for your father as a Christmas gift is a terrible motive. Creating a Wikipedia article from scratch is one of the most difficult tasks, even for an experienced editor. You may succeed, but it will be a long process of iterative revision. Above all else, Wikipedia editors must place the interests of the encyclopedia and its readers above personal concerns. --Drm310 đ (talk) 00:35, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, he is on the cover of many architectural magazines worldwide. He is not just mentioned. He is on the Forbes list of the best 200 modern architects in the world. He has won countless awards, and his clients are some of the wealthiest and most famous people in the world. He has multiple books published about his work, and has been recognized globally.
- I understand you donât know me or him, but Iâm not just someone trying to make a cool Christmas present for their dad. Lswatt (talk) 01:48, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guidelines. It is intended for basic information about yourself, your interests and goals as they relate to editing Wikipedia, as well as disclosures of conflicts of interest and paid editing. Although a lot of freedom is allowed in personalizing your user page, it is not:
- an encyclopedia article (and should not be styled to look like one)
- a workspace for a draft article
- a personal website, blog, or social media site
- a space for self-promotion or other advertising
- a CV, resumé or lengthy autobiography
The user page guidelines have additional information on what is and what is not considered acceptable content. Please use your user sandbox or the draft article space to practice editing or to create new articles. You already have a draft article at Draft:Robert Swatt, therefore another copy on your userpage is unnecessary. Drm310 đ (talk) 22:40, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Robert Swatt
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Robert Swatt, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement of https://www.swattpartners.com/recognition/publications/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image â which means allowing other people to use it for any reason â then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. bonadea contributions talk 20:45, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
Advert and COI warnings
[edit] Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.
Anyone with a conflict of interest must avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your family or colleagues, your organization or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
Note that you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Even if you are not being paid, you are expected to disclose any close connection with the subject of the article, using the connected contributor template.
For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you.
