No copies of primary sources

While using a public domain work as the basis for a Wikipedia article may be a good idea (see public domain resources for a selection), please do not include large source documents within articles. We try to collect free (public domain or copyleft) source documents in a single place, Wikisource, where they can be annotated and translated. This reduces duplication across wikis, and frees articles from the context of the source documents. Keep in mind that Wikipedia articles are subject to merciless editing, so if a document is the subject of an article, yet is included in it, it might not be the same document for long! Even long quotation sections should be moved‍—‌to Wikiquote.

An article you recently created, Medal of Merit of the Civil Guard, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Orders, decorations, and medals of Belgium, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page --. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Medals in biographies

[edit]

Hello, I have seen that you have recently added lists of medals to various Belgian military biographies. Medals certainly can be notable, but most are not. Listing off dozens of them is not what the average reader would expect and indiscriminate collections of information do not belong on Wikipedia (see WP:INDISCRIMINATE). Most also appear to be uncited. If you disagree, please discuss on a talk page. Thanks! —Brigade Piron (talk) 16:53, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, yes, I disagree. For military leaders, medals are part of their biography and often reflect what a person has done sturing his Carrera. They are also a token of gratitude and respect and therefore merkt to ben cited as such. Reference is often, ars&-moriendi.be which I've included in the references. I Will double check to make sure I did. Listing awards is not Common in Belgium as we are humble by nature, but more or less standard practice in other NATO countries. I saw that on several bio's the list of medals existed but was incorrect of incomplete. Therefore, I tried to complete it. Kind regards Lambik1982 (talk) 19:12, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for some autocorrect errors. Was on my mobile... Lambik1982 (talk) 19:13, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lambik, thanks for your comment. There are some individuals who are notable because of the medals they have won but frankly there are not many people in this situation and campaign medals will almost never be notable. This is as true for other NATO countries as Belgium. I also note that medals are not listed, for example, in the Nouvelle biographie nationale or similar biographical dictionaries. Also, please note that Ars Morendi is not a reliable source for the purposes of Wikipedia - please see the guidance on this at WP:RS/SPS. —Brigade Piron (talk) 20:51, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
