Second voyage of James Cook
Hi, Sorry to mess up your housekeeping! Please, if you have time, will you move the 'Second voyage' to mainspace for me. I'll watch to see how it's done so I don't have to natter you again. Thanks for fixing the Rigby ref, etc. I know the article still needs some work, maybe someone else will help too.--Harkey (talk) 18:13, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- OK I have done it at the second attempt. I forgot to split the history from the previous sandbox usage. The sandbox is reverted back to version before the start of the voyage. As it is a new article may be you could try for a front page entry under Did you know? though you have only 5 days to nominate it. Keith D (talk) 18:32, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. It looked complicated but I'll read the rules. I'll have to read the rules about DYK as well. I know we did it before for the Rotunda Museum, but I've slept since then! I'll have a look in the morning. I am going to have a go at Cook's third voyage later, but it could be more controversial. I thought that I could do an article on the 'Cook debate' so as to leave James Cook as a summary article.
Strange as it seems, last year I took an old edition (1880s) of Cooks journals to the Cook Birthplace Museum in Middlesbrough at the request of a great aunt who lived in Kent. She has passed away since then but I really enjoyed the visit and she was really pleased to get a letter from the curator thanking her for the donation.--Harkey (talk) 18:49, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Owen Paterson
Hi Keith, I hope you're enjoying (or by the time you read this, enjoyed) your holiday. I was reading the Owen Paterson article and noticed - after being rather surprised at the effusive language in the article - that in September you had reverted deletions of what another user referred to as 'meaningless PR praise'. In my view these additions from Snowplough11 do not seem close to being NPOV and ought to go, lest its retention encourage a rash of PR fluff going into articles on politicians. In the spirit of WP:NOSPADE I note that that account has only made contributions to that one article.
I'm not wild about reverting admins without speaking to them first, so - what do you think? SynEx (talk) 17:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, yes I did enjoy my break though have come back with a cold. I reverted as I felt that some of the information was useful and was referenced. Granted it needs work to make it neutral and some parts need to be trimmed as just PR. Feel free to edit the information to be neutral if you have the time. Keith D (talk) 18:37, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Some good work has been done by J3Mrs. I'd now like to list it, but it needs to be thoroughly checked for copyvio. I looked at another source today and found another example of copy and paste editing. It may just be confined to the Economics section, but it would be of benefit to check the rest of the article. I'm putting the GAN on hold for another week to allow people time to check for and clean up the copyvios. SilkTork ✔Tea time 14:29, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I had just got to the last change to the review page earlier today, as still working my way through watchlist changes from break. I suspect some of the material was there before the recent expansion and the GA review so will be from previous editors to the article and may be more tedious to locate requiring checking every source. Would you consider protecting Bradford from the irritating trolling by IPs that occurs every few days. I think it is obvious who is doing it but he is not logging in to avoid being accused of disruptive editing.--J3Mrs (talk) 09:44, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Template:Infobox HM prison
Hi there, sorry to bother you, but I wanted to make you aware of changes that affect Template:Infobox HM prison (which I think you created). The HM Prison Service website has been closed now, which means the website link which uses the prison id in this infobox no longer works. The Ministry of Justice does have information on prisons on its own site, but I dont know how or if these can be linked. Seeing as i'm utterly useless at infoboxes, I wondered if you could help? The Infobox HM prison template is really good, and it would be nice to see it fully functioning again. I have raised this issue on the template's talk page. Bleaney (talk) 16:12, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- The Justice website does not use ids like the old one but uses a lowercase name with a dash to join words. Could change to using that but will mean changing each occurrence of the infobox to alter field names/content. If that is OK then I can do the template change. May be could work it out from the Name field but processing of strings is not easy and the functions required may not be available. Keith D (talk) 18:29, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- I dont mind changing every infobox used on a prison article if you can do the necessary trickery with the template itself. Bleaney (talk) 19:45, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- I have change prisonid to prison in the template to use the new web site. Hull (HM Prison) shows this as I have just changed it to use the changed template. Keith D (talk) 19:59, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! I will change the rest Bleaney (talk) 21:11, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done! All articles using this infobox template have been updated with the new parameters. Thanks for your help! Bleaney (talk) 00:54, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi Keith, I'm sure Flixton is in the Parish of Folkton. - Hi, thanks for pointing out the error, I misread the map as there is a difficult to see boundary between the two parishes showing the boundary between Ryedale & Scarborough (borough). I will correct it. Keith D (talk) 12:19, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Stones Brewery
Hi, as an admin is it possible for you to work your magic so that if someone searches for "Stones Bitter" it redirects them to further down the page a la: Stones Bitter? Cheers Farrtj (talk) 23:33, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Cook again.
Hi Keith, If you have a spare minute, please will you have a look at Cook again. It's still a bit rough at the edges, and I'd be grateful for your help, as ever. Feel free to change anything.--Harkey (talk) 22:19, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again, I have had a quick pass through it and made some minor changes. I have tagged for disambiguation a couple of words I could not decide which was the right one. There are a few problems with the references. "Villiers 1967", "Collingridge 2002", "Williams 1997" and "Williams 2008" are missing Bibliography entries, they could be in the Further reading section and just need moving up. Keith D (talk) 00:49, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. You must have been up all night! I will look at the bibliography. I just pasted it from one of the other Cook articles that we have. I'm having trouble with the Hawaiian names because of the various spellings in the books, and some renditions have an apostrophe in the middle and others not. I am away from today until Monday so I'll give it a more thorough going over next week. Thanks again. --Harkey (talk) 08:50, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- No just better at night than mornings! One or two of the reference entries also need page numbers adding to them. Keith D (talk) 18:18, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your edits while I was away, particularly the map. I looked all over for one but ran out of time on Friday. There is one ref (Fisher) that I brought forward from the Main article and don't have a page number for, so I'll find a replacement. Two more (Obeyesekere & Sahlins) refer to the debates in the books in general. --Harkey (talk) 15:41, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- When you have time, please will you move the article from my sandbox into main space. I think it's just about ready to meet the world and there is a redirect to Third voyage of James Cook to get shot of. Thanks. --Harkey (talk) 10:45, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

(reset indent)There is an article Death of Cook about some paintings which mentions another called The Death of Captain James Cook (Zoffany) but I don't know where they would go in the navbox. Also, I don't know whether it would be appropriate to have the people who went with him like Banks and Bligh. What do you think?--Harkey (talk) 20:17, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

James Cook University Hospital
Hi Keith, I'm no lover of regions, but why use the ceremonial county when it's in a unitary authority? Is it because NHS Primary Care Trusts are not controlled by local authorities? If so, would you use unitary authorities for placing schools - as they're directly a part of the local authority? My feeling is that it should confuse the reader as little as possible and that the smaller unitary authorities shouldn't miss out on the assignment of real estate to the benefit of ceremonial counties, which are just the there to cut red ribbon at garden parties. Francis Hannaway 16:32, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- There is no use of regions at all for placing things, though sometimes it gets a mention in the lead of articles. For unitary authorities we use the ceremonial county, just as for metropolitan districts where we use the county even though it does not exist as an authority as such. Do not think that it is confusing just consistent across the country.Keith D (talk) 18:10, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- Is that "we" as in "editors", or "we" as in "NHS PCTs"? If you mean editors, which rule or convention are you refering to? I ask this because it appears that unitary authorities start to appear as tacked-on bits, or enclaves of, ceremonial counties - whereas, as I understand it, they should be seen as independent local authorities in their own right, and only associated with, in this case, North Yorkshire, for ceremonial purposes, i.e. flag waving and royal visits, and the like. If we were to count the hospitals in each authority, would we be saying 'there are x number in North Yorkshire, but some of those are in unitary authorities'? Or, would we be saying, 'there are x in North Yorkshire, and another y in the unitary authority of Middlesbrough'? As far as the unitary authorities are concerned, North Yorkshire County Council has nothing to do with the affairs of Middlesbrough unitary authority, which is where James Cook University Hospital is found. Francis Hannaway (talk) Francis Hannaway 09:52, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- We is wikipedia rather than the NHS trusts as it is a convention used here for building up information. I know some people do not like it as they see the unitary authorities are separate and try to enforce the separate identity often to detriment of consistency. I personally go for the consistency approach and try to have a consistency across all of the articles rather than pander to the differing views, otherwise you get into the problems such as the Ireland difficulties where arguments on article naming still rumbles on. I note this edit of yours:
This editor has been going round making equally brainless edits on every article they can lay their hands on. Quite why escapes me, but it is purely disruptive and serves zero purpose. I note also that the UK parliament officially calls itself UK Parliament, not British Parliament. For rather obvious reasons. Which, of course, begs the question why Wikipedia's article does not use the correct, official title. (Our Northern Ireland Assembly article is not, for example, located at Assembly of Northern Ireland.)--Mais oui! (talk) 20:22, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks I try to keep an eye on those, usually IPs, trying to change UK to Britain or visa versa. It causes havoc with categories at times. Keith D (talk) 22:20, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Can you take a look at this one please Keith ? Its a May 2011 large copy-paste from the Genuki link at the bottom of the article,[1] itself apparently a copy from a 1935 Country Life article. The original text may be out of copyright, but Genuki (at the bottom of the Genuki page) claims copyright, although whether it can do this or not is another matter. Either way, the text is completely unreferenced in our article or in Genuki. I am unsure of how WP views this. Can you give your opinion ? Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 02:23, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Not really up on copyright things but if it is under any form of copyright than we cannot accept it. Presumably the original 1935 Country Life is the reference that should be used for the text if it stands as out of copyright. I guess that Genuki can only claim copyright on the transcription not the original text but as it was copied from their transcription and is not a new transcription then there may be a problem. May be ask at Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems and if not allowed then revert back to this version and add later category changes. Keith D (talk) 11:57, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Keith, as you're a regular Hull City editor I thought I'd make you aware of this IP (has also used this IP). I got into a conflict with him earlier today at Hull City A.F.C. regarding Peter Gulacsi's loan; he removed Gulacsi from the squad list and I reverted this as no sources are availalbe to back it up. He has been particularly abusive and insistent on reinstating his incorrect edits, so I thought I'd drop you a line to make you aware. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:25, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Keith – Thanks for adding the new category to the above mentioned article. However, I think you'll find that it was not this William Wilberforce who was Mayor of Hull, but his grandfather of the same name. See the Early Life paragraph. I won't revert your edit, as you may know something that don't.... although I'm pretty sure! Cheers, Bruce – Agendum (talk) 21:32, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out, I have reverted my addition. Looks like I should have looked more closely at the list which gives dates of 1722 & 1740 both of which were before the birth of the William we have an article on. Keith D (talk) 22:27, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
