Hello, I'm ~riley. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Syria because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. ~riley (talk) 08:46, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, ~riley. thanks for the message and your help. So I don't repeat this mistake, can you confirm this is in reference to the external link datamun.com? Thanks in advance!

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] MrOllie (talk) 12:22, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MrOllie. I haven't seen anything in this user's contribution history that warrants the above warning. What exactly is your concern? Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 17:53, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nearly 100% of his edits are additions of datamun.com, an unreliable source. - MrOllie (talk) 17:54, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He's adding useful content along with links to datamun. I agree that datamun does not meet our criteria for being a reliable source, but adding good content with an unreliable source is an error that we can assume is made in good faith. IvanIM78, it's really great that you want to add this information to Wikipedia, but you should do so while citing the original sources of that information, e.g. the World Development Indicators or the OECD, rather than datamun.com. That way, readers can be verify the numbers. Does that make sense? Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 18:02, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear all, Please accept my apologies for the number of external links added. The reason I did so was to facilitate the exploration of historical data and country comparison to readers, so I didn’t have to add an overwhelming and irrelevant about of information to the given page. In relation to datamun, I can confirm I have an affiliation and I was not aware this was not allowed to do. I’ll make siete no more external links are added. In saying that, I’d like to state sources such as the CIA, world Development Indicators indicators and OECD are not the “primary” source of information but a collection of. Governmental and non-governmental sources. It is for that reason I thought datamun could be used as a source. I will go through the guidelines to better understand how to meet the criteria of realisable source. Finally, I just want to assure there is no commercial goal behind my posts, datamun is a free (and as free) source creates to advance knowledge. Many thanks and apologies again Ivanlm78 Ivanlm78 (talk) 20:45, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ivanlm78. Thanks for writing this note. I think you will be a very valuable contributor to Wikipedia - you have a good sense of what makes information reliable, which is the most important thing. I hope you will continue to write about African countries in particular, as we're really lacking editors in this area. P.S. I just realized how much stuff there is to read in all these links. Just read the first one or two links and you'll be fine. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 19:05, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
