SPAN

Definition removed from wikipedia itself: Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages, especially advertising, indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media. [my bolding]

I can't see how adding external references to related page can be a SPAN. Anyway, what do you understand by external reference? Did you read the external reference?
