But from the very source you quote,: "in Great Britain and many of its former colonies, “judgement” is still the correct spelling" Birkett is British, so the article about him should be written in British English. Only American topics get written in American English. (International topics are written in whatever version they're started in.) BAFL Teams Speedy Deletion

I have seen your speedy deletion post for Highland Wildcats. I have contested this. They are a new team in the major UK American Football league, along with 50 odd other senior teams and 50 odd college teams, most of which have Wikipedia pages. I can't see why Inverness should be singled out for deletion, unless you are planning to also delete all of the other team pages and categories, plus league pages, plus Britbowl, plus trophy info. Does this extend to NFL games played in the UK. Maybe the whole NFL? Not sure where the plan on this is going... JamesCollins (talk) 23:13, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Caricature/portrait of Edward Marshall-Hall

While Leslie Ward (the artist who drew the portrait of Edward Marshall-Hall) is noted as a caricaturist, he is also noted as a portrait artist. I don't see how the picture here meets the following criteria of a caricature: "a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness, or in literature, a description of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others." Ward also noted that his work had moved from caricature to "characteristic portrait", and that caricature "should be a comic impression with a kindly touch" (something seemingly absent in the picture in question). If you still disagree and consider that picture of Marshall-Hall a caricature given those arguments, could you explain your rationale? Emw2012 (talk) 20:31, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually, the information is accurate. You can read the citation. A non-lawyer can practice law without a license. A lot of information was removed, that's true. But almost none of it was cited, and most of it was wrong and irrelevant anyways. If you wish, information could be added from those articles to the current article, however it must be cited. You mean those conditions which allow its use on Wikipedia in the way it is currently being used? It isn't a free use license, no, but the "thou shalt not use it in a derogatory manor and shall provide sourcing information or face smiting" thing is hardly a massive leap for us to make under fair use (especially a link back, which should be contained in sourcing info anyway). It isn't being used under fair use, nor could it be. A license is either free or it isn't, if restrictions are attatched to its use it isn't a free license. It needs to be released under an acceptable CC license or GFDL license, neither is the case at present. RMHED. 20:50, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Nice article. One point: the article claimed "While at Winchester Schuster became involved in football, playing for the fifteen-a-side team". I've changed this to "While at Winchester Schuster played Winchester College football, representing the fifteen-a-side team", but it still doesn't really make much sense until it is specified which team he represented – Commoners, OTH, or College. re caps

I'm sorry if the caps offended you. It wasn't your edit that annoyed me. I have left a number of messages on talk pages and the page of tpbradbury explaining politely, patiently and then with increasing frustration that when there is a long box, if you shift a pic (from left to right) so that it comes under the box, then it causes the heading above it to be orphaned from the text below it. One does get sick of asking the same person repeatedly to use their "show preview" option and to be aware of an ongoing problem caused on a great many pages that they edit, albeit well-meaningly. The particular editor's screen may be more square in shape that most others, so that the problem is not as apparent as on a wide shallow screen where in some cases the gap between the heading and the text in the first section below the intro can be up to six inches deep.

Also on the subject of my CAPs, unfortunately one cannot discretly emphasise a word by using italics when making an edit summary. Sometimes its necessary. I probably should have written "her" or whatever it was, in the other summary.

With regards to the placement of the portrait picture, Wiki manual gives a very broad guide which doesn't cover every circumstance. Wiki manual gives guidance based on the direction of the eyes. However, there is more to composition and placement than simply the direction of the eyes. The position of the body is also an important factor.

Here are two classic examples by Titian.

In the case of the portraits in the article on Norman Birkett, the Marshall-Hall is very clearly a left-facing pic and therefore clearly goes right. The Ramsay MacDonald picture does not fit the Wiki manual formula. The whole body is turned left. The head is turned left but the eyes are looking directly at the photgrapher/viewer. This means that although the eyes are turned towards the left side of the sitter's eye socket (viewer's right), the sitter is not looking out the side of the photograph. The sitter is looking straight ahead, as the Mona Lisa is. See pics below. In each of these cases the figure, needs to be placed with their back to the edge of the page, and their face turned inward. To place the figure with their body turned out of the picture is compositionally bad. Try reversing these two guys, and you'll see that it doesn't look good. Cheers! C-Class

It is great to have someone else who shares my same belief (that we don't need the C-Class), but It seems as if the C-Class issue is about even at the moment. I'm no expert on that century. However I think the paragraph about the regency needs a revisit - Butcher Cumberland would have been 30 then and not a child and if Frederick was dead he could scarcely become heir. I suspect the intent was to bypass him and appoint the future George III as heir - one of his names being Frederick. That would fit in with our articles on G II and III. Hello. I think the main concern is probably pointed out in the comments section, but the wording concerns me too. I personally think that adminship - especially nowadays - should really be given to users without the doubts, or the concerns, so it's hard for me to not oppose. There's something in the answers that makes me think that you aren't completely suited, and the points raised by others in opposition seem to confirm my thoughts. I accidentally reverted

I was putting it back to the original layout so we could talk about it. Can I please put the page back to what it originally was. They need to be reverted back to the 'blank sheet' of paper. Narson was adding some brackets we didn't need, I've offered a different way round of what he wants to do but he's still reverting back to his new edit. Treat me with respect then. I used a bad example but what do you gain from lying which you obviously see me as wanting to get away with. I guard that article like a guardian angel and anything I don't understand I query. I almost left WP because of people like you constantly going on and on ignoring my statements whenever I made a human mistake. Why is anything I say slightly forcefully seen as a personal attack, it's an excuse to stop yourself being told what people really think of you (not you personally). They are all misunderstandings and after my slips of not writing enough you've got the wrong thing. Me, a GCSE A level average, did not make things up and my brain can't comprehend to why people lie or why they do certain things like chewing gum while in a classroom. I remember doing certain things and obviously I was wrong. If you want the reasons for all of them tell me. Narson's starting to get worried about me because of what you are doing to me. With respect, it isn't what Ironholds is doing, it is the import you place on what Ironholds is doing that concerns me. Believe me when I say that as you get older, things like wikipedia become less and less important as you gain more of a perspective.
