Peer review idea
Hi, I have made a proposal that no peer review request be archived without some response. To aid in this, there is a new list of PR requests at least one week old that have had no repsonses beyond a semi-automated peer review. This list is at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog.
There are just over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, so I figure if each of these volunteers reviewed just one or two PR requests without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog (as there have been 2 or 3 such unanswered requests a day on average).
If you would be able to help out with a review or two a month from the "no responses" backlog list that would be great (and much appreciated). Please discuss questions, comments, or ideas at the PR talk page and thanks in advance for your help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I love you.

ANI
Hi Lara, re the ANI thread here, would it be possible for you get some more admin eyes on it, perhaps with a post on an admin channel or something like that? I know you are not familiar with the backstory (and I only have limited knowledge) but from what I understand it was quite serious (WP:OFFICE may have been involved but I'm not sure). You can also see this earlier ANI thread and note some of the comments in the second DM thread made by RTFA (that user also seems only interested in the subject in question, so I don't know what's going on there either) for further background.
Basically this is a complex issue which warrants prompt attention. I'm quite certain at the least that there is sockpuppetry going on, but given that there have been harassment problems in the past we should be proactive about this. Sorry to pester you about it, but you're the only admin who dropped by! If you want to send me an e-mail about this feel free.--Bigtimepeace | talk | contribs 01:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello Lara. How are you? Lara, I have nominated the article Richard Dawkins for the FA status. Please make some contributions. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 04:32, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I've returned...
Hey,
Thought I'd drop by to say I've sorted out some issues in the whole "real world" mess, and I'll be around again a whole heap more. So hopefully I'll be able to participate in various projects on here again and we'll likely cross paths I imagine.
Also, congratulations on Adminship. Pity I missed out on participating in the RfA, but I'm really glad. Pursey Talk | Contribs 13:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Devo Keenan
Yo, I trawled through pages of google hits for Devo Keenan looking for reliable sources to no avail. I don't think the article will progress beyond a stub, let alone garner an interesting hook before the weekend. If you happen across a transcription or anything in the meantime, drop a comment and I'll do the donkeywork, but right now it's not looking too good. Regards, скоморохъ 13:17, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yea. I did some research too, and got nothing. Interesting info, like that H is his middle name, not just his initial, but even that's not a reliable source. Oh well. Maybe in a few years he'll get an expanded article. Thanks for looking. I'll figure out another task for the project today. Lara❤Love 13:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Cool, good luck with that. скоморохъ
New policy proposal that may be of interest
I'm tapping this message out to you because you were involved at the AfDs of Eve Carson or Lauren Burk. Following both of these heated debates, a new proposal has been made for a guideline to aid these contentious debates, which can be found at WP:N/CA. There is a page for comments at Wikipedia talk:Notability (criminal acts)/Opinions should you wish to make a comment. Thanks for your time, and apologies if this was not of interest! Script
Is there a chance if you could remove the break script from my alternate user please it can be found at User:Terra/monobook.js, thanks. Yun-Yuuzhan (talk) 19:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

- That whole account compromise risk. Perhaps I'm too paranoid. o.O Lara❤Love 21:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I haven't the faintest idea what you guys are talking about, but my assistance was requested. Obviously I can't be much help, but if that link proves informative perhaps you can :). --SB_Johnny | talk 21:22, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's already been taken care of, about three minutes after her last post here. I asked on en-admins and apparently it's a script that prevents one from editing, to force a wikibreak. But I'm not comfortable editing other's monobooks because I don't know js to know if there's a compromising code in it. Lara❤Love 21:32, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Meh... I really have no idea what the issue is, so can't really help. If you know how to do whatever it is he's asking for, feel free to do it and blame me (I'm an admin here too).
- If you could perhaps explain this all to me sometime, that'd be nice too :). --SB_Johnny | talk 21:35, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm insulted, i am a Male. Plus feel free to remove the script or revert it to the last admin who removed the script, if anyone blames you i'll just say that I've granted you permission to revert the script to a revision that hasn't got it. Yun-Yuuzhan (talk) 21:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Plus not to mention you could remove my entire scripts, or get another admin to remove it, possibly those who removed it previosly. Yun-Yuuzhan (talk) 21:50, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- You're insulted that I thought you were a female? Yes, GASP, because that would be such a horrible thing. I do not edit other user's monobook.js because there is a risk that it can compromise my account, malicious coding which I can't identify because I don't know Java. So I'm not going to risk it and blame anyone should it happen, as I've grown to like my account. From what I've seen it's already been taken care of, so I'm not really sure why this conversation is even ongoing. Lara❤Love 00:03, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't insulted I meant it as a joke. As such a user on my talkpage mentioned that there was another way to disable the Java script and now I've regained my account sorry about this Lara if I angered you in some way, it wasn't my intention to do so. Terra What do you want? 10:27, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- ....*Angry eyebrows* I'm not angry. Just didn't understand why I had to keep explaining why I don't edit other's js. It's fine. Glad it got worked out. Lara❤Love 13:31, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Beta-results
Lara, take a look at this deletion log from 00:37 back to 00:00. Now, I came really late to the party, really late, but I started going through DFUI images and picking out the ones that were d-u-hh simple to FUR-ize. I did maybe twelve, then Maxim cut the ground out from under my feet based on "has there been an edit since BC" [1]. I'd estimate that I was at about a 50% salvage level, 10-15 minutes per item to either fix it or bail out, and I'm an amateur.
Now this has nothing to do with Maxim, Maxim just used a script to execute a task that had a pre-defined cutoff date with a time-extension, if no-one's responded to an NFCC10c warning by such-and-such, delete it. And it has nothing to do with BetaCommand either, BC is a skilled programmer, he's eager to bring his skills to bear for the service of Wikipedia, and he can code up a defined task and run it very efficiently.
But what are the results? Going just by the numbers I saw and my estimated success percentage, I'd say 500-750 images were excised because even though the Image page showed where they were used, usually in a single article, no-one put an article link in the image page itsel and BCB put a di-fur template there because of that. And what will the results be? People will come across the redlink in articles and naturally just excise that too. And the wonderful thing is that in a week or two this will all be invisible! It will all be consigned to history and admin-only access.
Now I don't place any blame on you, or Beta or Maxim, or anyone else who's automatically tagged or deleted images, I do blame myself a little because I should have been on this much earlier. I watched too long instead of pitching in. What I see though is destruction on a massive scale, you could even call it state-sponsored vandalism.
What I see here is a massive failure on the part of Wiki as a whole, we had a mandated deadline for FU and reacted unintelligently. We've avoided or driven away lots of possibly problematic editors, see this example and my wordy attempt at a response. We've deleted many thousands of images. Everyone has done what they were mandated to do. Is the encyclopedia better today? Is there some process broken that we can fix for the future?
(Good thing I stay away from Image space, eh?) Franamax (talk) 05:15, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, this probably won't make me any friends, but I'm of the "Free encyclopedia, so our media should be free too" crowd. Though, I'm all about fair- and non-free-use images being used in compliance with policy, but I don't shed tears over the loss of non-free images. If they're so important, they can be restored and corrected or reuploaded. If you'd like, I'm sure those images can be restored and you and others can make corrections. I don't think there's anything against that. Let me know, I'll see about restoring them. But ya, that's my view on it. I don't see ridding Wikipedia of copyrighted images as being massively destructive by any means. Lara❤Love 05:20, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thing is here, I don't know what's salvageable until I see it and check it out, read the summary, check the link, check the article usage, verify the true IP owner, convince myself that it's truly fair-use. I got here way too late, I'd suggest a project to restore 100 images at a time for review, but it's really too late, the red-squares will be gone from the articles very soon (or excised by a different bot). Unless you can figure out a way to revert restored non-free images into their previous articles.
- I'll buy your argument that "free-should-be-free", I'm commenting about the (possibly) large number of (possibly) usable images with (possibly) non-free rationales that have (definitely) contributed to our articles. You can say "those images can be restored" but what's the reality here? They're effectively gone, for all practical intents.
- I would have pursued a line of argument, since I've seen you're a member of WPP-Tool, that you can't say the article wouldn't be enhanced by non-free album covers. Then I see Tool doesn't have any album covers. So I pulled out my copy of Lateralus, which has really cool artwork and go there. And I see there that Image:Tool-lateralus-album.jpg has a FUR which really could have been used for x-thousand generic images. Is that really all that was required? I could have blammed that into a hundred images at least instead of considering every one all on its own. That stings!
- Free versus fair, I'll stand by my contention that en:wiki has lost something today. Obviously it doesn't eventually matter, it's a wiki, it will all get recycled eventually. But I was here today, and I saw a lot of good intentions and a lot of work get whisked away to nowhere, all for the sake of "this is how we're going to do it". You might approve of the results, but they were arrived at through a broken process."I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away" Franamax (talk) 06:16, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hahah, quoting Tool is the way to my heart (srs, I think ;)). Here's my view of it. If it added a lot to the article and losing it will bring a tear or two to some people's eyes, it will be reuploaded (hopefully up to policy standards) and replaced in the article. For any that may be unattainable now or not easily found for reupload, those can be requested to be restored and then fixed. I know it's a sad day for a lot of people to see so many images deleted, so much work vanish, but we're working on a deadline. And with less than two weeks left, there's just not a lot of time. The process is broken, this we know, and we're at ArbCom over it... and other things, of course.
:::... leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical. And you will come to find that we are all one mind. Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable. So let the light touch you and let the words spill through. Just let them pass right through bringing out our hope and reason. -- Maynard James Keenan (on Wikipedia?)
Deadline
Again, I've been asking what this deadline means, and no-one has been able to answer me. Do images magically get deleted after this deadline? If so, you (and anyone else reading) need to answer one simple question: Can you reliable say which images should be deleted and which ones shouldn't be deleted. If you can't answer that, then the deadline is meaningless, other than as a deadline to show what progress, if any, has been made. Is there a requirement to go to the Foundation and say "we've done this much work, was that good enough?" I haven't seen that proposed or discussed explicitly anywhere? Just saying "there is a deadline" doesn't mean anything unless there has been a discussion of what the deadline means and how things change in practice (not in theory) after the deadline. Oh, and its refactor, not refractor. :-) Carcharoth (talk) 14:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Okay. Thanks for the note. You can refactor my comment to correct the misspelling. Lara❤Love 14:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Done. By the way, I recently had a little run-in with Hammersoft (see User talk:Carcharoth#Background), and he said he was afraid that I was seeking retribution against him at ArbCom. I've looked back over my statements and I see that I did say "if the case is accepted, I would present evidence concerning: the behaviour of User:Hammersoft and User:Laralove when commenting on issues". I probably shouldn't have explicitly named you two there, so I'm now asking if you want to say something to me about that, as I will be presenting my evidence sometime this week. I've never had someone say to me before that they "refused to engage in the RfAr on Betacommand out of fear of retribution from [me]", and I never wanted that to happen. I'd much prefer to sort things out with both of you before it gets to that stage, though I was worried when I saw you and MickMacNee debating furiously on the Workshop page. I may disagree with you and Hammersoft, but I do try and work with people where possible. If you are happy for me to present evidence, then I'll do that as well, but if not, then that's fine as well. One thing, though, I will probably point to diffs of this conversation and the one I had with Hammersoft to explain any failure to follow up my statement of intent in my RfArb statement. Hopefully that will be OK. Carcharoth (talk) 14:57, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Bring up whatever you're inclined to bring up. I don't think you're seeking retribution, but regardless, I'm not worried about it. I'd just like to see it go up soon because they'd hoped to have already ruled at this point. I think it totally acceptable to hold off a bit for the holiday to give you a chance to participate, but you're back now, so I'd really like to see you get in whatever you want to get in today so they can rule. Lara❤Love 15:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and as for your question, I don't know. I'd hoped we beat the deadline. I don't know what happens to images left after the deadline that aren't within policy. Lara❤Love 15:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, only if you can say which images aren't within policy. Some criteria are easy to judge, others are more subjective and less so. Everyone can say what they think isn't within policy. Getting widespread agreement on some of the interpretations of the criteria is more difficult. But that is essentially what is being said here. As for the evidence, I was hoping to get my evidence in by Friday, but I will try to do some tonight. I would much prefer to see people discussing what happens after the deadline, which, according to User:Betacommand is 7 days away. I know. People can't even agree on the date of the deadline! :-) (I think he was building in a one week post-deadline deletion notification thing, or there was some discussion somewhere that I missed). Carcharoth (talk) 15:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
