Hello, I'm DarmaniLink. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Tartan because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. DarmaniLink (talk) 11:46, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Yes, I recently placed a link on the Tartan Wikipedia page, as I noticed there were other external links present. My intention was to contribute to the platform and enhance the available information. However, I now realize that my actions might not have been entirely appropriate, and for that, I apologize.
I am actively involved in the world of tartans, with a collection of over 1400 unique designs, and I frequently write blogs on this subject. Given my expertise in this field, I would like to inquire about the criteria for adding relevant links to Wikipedia pages. Could you kindly provide some guidance on the appropriate process and standards for doing so?
I am eager to ensure that my contributions align with Wikipedia's guidelines and maintain the highest level of quality and relevance. Iam muheeb (talk) 06:17, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So, here's how relevant links works.
If the site's primary purpose is sales, the answer is absolutely not, never, unless its an article about a notable website ,such as Amazon.com, the answer is never add them.
If its a news website or otherwise a information on the subject that can support something, usually, yes.
If its an academic (.edu) with more information about the subject, the answer is yes, but its better placed in a ref.
If you have knowledge about the topic and would like to share knowledge and improve articles by expanding articles with non-promotional, relevant and reliable sources (they don't have to be in english, by the way), you can add them as references. (see MOS:REFERENCES)
In short, add knowledge to the platform. Don't add online store fronts. I'll leave you a canned welcome message with a bunch of intra-wikipedia links with further information on how to get started. DarmaniLink (talk) 09:03, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
