Cat on mat

[edit]

Hello, you marked Image:Cat-on-mat.GIF as {{PD-ineligible}}. This might be true if this were a generic block diagram of the idea it represents, but it is not. It contains shading etc. which clearly come directly from [1] -- exactly the same shapes, fonts, shading, etc., with only a slightly different color. I believe this is a copyright violation. --Macrakis 23:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FPC St. Louis

Hello, I don't know if this is the proper channel but I was wandering if the St. Louis skyline picture that was accepted for FP status could be the FP for Dec. 11th? It's my b-day :) cheesy I know.

Lord Stewart

[edit]

I found the guy, Charles Stewart, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry. It took a while, mind you; just imagine the number of people with a name like Lord Stewart in Georgian Britain! -- Chris.B | talk 15:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Howcheng

The name of the town given in the description in above template and also in others related links is not correct.

The 1877 colour photo by Louis Ducos du Hauron is NOT of the town of Angoulême, France, but it is the town of Agen, France.

A photograph of the St. Caprais Cathedral given in the town's website as per URL below will confirm my contention.

http://www.ot-agen.org/_eng/visite/visite.htm

Please verify my info and correct the description.

Thanks

CuriousJM

PS: This is my first post and I hope you are the right person to be contacted for this correction. I had tried to edit the relevant info myself but couldn't find the proper link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CuriousJM (talkcontribs) 16:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Picture of the Day

[edit]

Hi I noticed that you were an admin and mostly concerned with images, so I thought I could ask you my question. I had a picture of mine pass as featured picture. So when does it appear as a picture of the day? Can I choose the day? Regards Muhammad Mahdi Karim (talk) 03:56, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The POTD is pulled from the Featured Pictures in a roughly FIFO order. I wouldn't expect to schedule this one until next year. I usually only allow for specific requests to commemorate anniversaries, or if it's close enough to the day where it would normally appear otherwise (e.g., Image:STL Skyline 2007 edit.jpg which is going on the photographer's birthday). howcheng {chat} 18:16, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 May 18. This was deleted for being an orphan (not used in any articles). If you have an article to use it in, please feel free to reupload it, or I can restore it for you. Another alternative is to upload it at Wikimedia Commons, where it doesn't need to be used in any articles. howcheng {chat} 18:12, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spiffier triple crown, new awards available

[edit]
Imperial triple crown jewels.

Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the imperial triple crown jewels you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:14, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2007-12-06 POTD

[edit]

Looks like User:John Reaves changed today's POTD at 01:08 (UTC), about an hour after it appeared on the main page, from Image:Hitlermusso2 edit.jpg to Image:Static jump.jpg "because today is the first day of Hanukkah".[2] While an insensitivity for showing Hitler during Hanukkah may not be a valid reason, an argument was made by User:Purgatorio on WP:ERRORS beforehand that the copy on Commons, Commons:Image:Hitlermusso2 edit.jpg, was deleted back in September for having an invalid license. I was also wondering about the licence myself when I first looked at it too.

Although I do not fully agree with John Reaves' original reason, I am hesitant to revert back because of the licencing issue. What do you think? I will leave it up to you whether to revert, continue the discussion on WP:ERRORS#Errors in Picture of the Day/Today's featured picture (if it is still up), etc. Cheers. POTD

[edit]

We are currently in Hannukah, one of the many festivals of the Jewish calendar. Featuring a photograph of Adolf Hitler on the front page is really inappropriate given the time. Surely featuring the image can wait until some time after the holy days have finished (sometime after December 13).—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 07:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm generally opposed to any sort of censorship, but we do no harm by featuring this picture on another day. I would argue against its removal as a POTD (unless the license is a problem), but simply making it the POTD for a different day is a simple move that keeps everyone just a little happier. :) kmccoy (talk) 07:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:EverclearBottle.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EverclearBottle.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. POTD 30th December

Hope this catches you in time. I responded to the POTD errors comments Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors unfortunately a bit too late. It appears QEII is indeed the second longest serving head of state as Sheikh Saqyr is no longer a head of state. Which Opening Day are you considering using Image:20070616 Chris Young visits Wrigley (4)-edit3.jpg for. I understand (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/important_dates.jsp) that 2007-03-25 is the international opening day with a game in Tokyo, Japan. Since the game time is to be announced and it may start at night it is possible that it is already by 2007-03-26 at gametime. Opening day for the rest of the league is 2007-03-30. Excellent. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK Dureo, that would be great. There are some other things that I plan to add to the article. The wording of Historical Landmark is inaccurate in that it says that the two local men killed were Deputy U.S. Marshals, which they were not. Also, the dead and wounded men were laid out under an oak tree on the Brewer farm. The tree became famously known as the Tragedy Oak. It blew down in a storm in the early 1990s. A piece of the tree was saved as a memorial and is on display at the Pioneer school. Armona (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, Tragedy Oak is missing from the article. For my part, I'm planning to get the pic of the Mussel Slough Five in there as well. howcheng {chat} 20:33, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there, and thanks for the heads up regarding Template:POTD/2008-01-14. I looked at the caption and it seems well-written to me; I know little about the biological processes actually taking place in the picture and am relatively ill-qualified to further elaborate in the caption. Japanese Gardens POTD

[edit]

Hi Howcheng,

Thanks for the note on Template:POTD/2008-01-15. The only thing that troubles me a bit about the caption is the part about "...adapted for a Western setting".

I know what you're trying to say, but I wonder if the 'western' part isn't being a bit general. Like a Japanese Garden in Canada for example would not be adapted in the same way as this has been for the harsh summers of inland Australia. I don't how to word it better, whether it would be better just to say adapted for Australia, adapted for the latitude, adapted for the environmental conditions, or something else. Anyway, see what you think is best. I'll leave it up to you. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 08:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked on this image's delist nom whether this version was the same as the version originally promoted to FP. I directed the question to you, as you seemed to be in the know, but you haven't replied. Just wondering if you do know?

There's also an issue that it now doesn't appear to be in any articles (at least not the version showing up on the FPC delist). Do you know if this is correct?

Fort Massachusetts/ 1st LA Native Guard image

[edit]

Hey, just wanted to touch base on this one. No big deal, I'm sure you've seen the reference for this one by now. It's an image that was actually of a Union regiment and has been photoshopped to represent the old CSA militia unit (by someone other than the fellow who posted it to a Wiki page I presume.) It might have been done for someone's own amusement, for a game, etc., but then leaked out and misinterpreted/gone viral, etc. (It doesn't necessarily require any malice or intent to deceive, although one naturally wonders.) [edit]

France was majorly anti-Semitic and was occupied by Germany as well. There seem to be few references to the recipients of the Legion d'honneur on that page; feel free to remove them all. There are more than just a blog supporting Streicher's receipt of the award, but nothing that probably rises to a reliable source. Odd that the organization doesn't even have a list of its recipients. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Use of NPS template

[edit]

Hi Howcheng -- Your last comment on Talk:New Almaden pointed me to the NPS template. I see that there are about 40 sites listed now in Pages that link to Template:NPS. It is actually depressing to me to see that. I think that copying text from NPS websites and then using that template (instead of using full quoting where appropriate) is not making good articles, but is rather making more work for other editors. I would hope that you would consider using quotation marks or block quote formatting. I had thought that we were going to work on improving the New Almaden article, now I am depressed thinking we could get embattled on what is proper referencing. Sincerely, doncram (talk) 02:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Query

[edit]

Firstly, I'd like to clarify on one response to my DYK suggestion related to Bombay Stock Exchange. You had said: "DYK is not a consolation prize for failed ITN candidates."

What are ITN candidates?

One more question: I wonder if I find an article containing an interesting fact, can I just nominate it in the suggestions page even if I did not contribute to its content? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mspraveen (talkcontribs) 15:47, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ITN is the news section on the Main Page, which is where articles about recent events go (even new articles). If a new article about recent events can't make it there, it does not get to be featured in DYK as a "second bite of the apple" so to speak. Regards, howcheng {chat} 17:33, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After some research, it turns out that the Coca-Cola can I originally pointed towards you is a different creature. Hello, I've noticed that the featured photograph of the Angel of the North is available in a much higher resolution at the original uploader's Flickr account here, and is under a CC attribution licence. Does this mean that it would be able to be uploaded over the lower quality, but featured picture? I'm a bit unsure what the rules allow, but it would be presumably better to have the larger image on here. Thanks. Bob talk 15:54, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mussel Slough Tragedy

[edit]

Hi -- sorry I did not get your message re: Mussel Slough citations until now. I can provide citation for claims that the M.S. settlers were squatters, and I think a section on that would be warranted, as it is closely related to the "myth" side of the story (the myth being that the "squatters" were "settlers" -- the difference in names here is crucial). So, I could add a citation and brief section, but I don't want to screw up the GA status of the article. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahatcher (talkcontribs) 15:14, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An expansion on that point would only be an improvement to the article. Please add it at your leisure, but be sure to follow the footnote/reference format that's been implemented. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:52, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Central.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Central.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:13, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Serbia boundaries CIA.jpg

[edit]

Hi, Howcheng. I stumbled across Image:Serbia boundaries CIA.jpg. It's an image on the Commons, but with an image description page here (containing two categorizations) and a talk page (tagging it as part of WikiProject Kosovo). What is the typical thing to do in a case like this? Since the image itself is a Commons image, should the image description page and talk page be deleted here? If so, is there a CSD for this? —Bkell (talk) 02:44, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IfD questions

[edit]

I saw your comments at Template_talk:Oldafdfull and then your more recent reply to my question at Template_talk:Oldifdfull, so I thought I'd pose this to you.

I made a minor but probably bold for a deletion process template change to the {{ifd top}} template to give it a result parameter as many of the others have. However, I found out afterwards that contrary to the instructions on the template documentation, closing admins are transcluding the colored box templates. All of the other XfDs subst as far as I know. This means the change I made is now showing on all the recent IfD closings which can make them look a little odd. Secondly, I noticed that closing admins are placing the {{ifd top}} template above the discussion header, contrary to the closing instructions. I've commented on these at WT:IFD. I can easily undo the changes I made, but wanted to get some opinions, since it seems people are following a completely different procedure than the one that is written down. If you could, I'd appreciate your comments at WT:IFD#Closing Procedures. Thanks.--Doug.(talk contribs) 03:40, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alexz Johnson / Instant Star Pictures

[edit]

Thanks very much for your work on this! And thanks for the quick action in putting the right picture in the info box at the top of the article.

The Alexz Johnson article really needed some good pictures! I'll also add them in to the Instant Star article.

I really wanted to get all this done before Alexz Johnson releases her solo CD, which has the potential to be a major hit. (We'll see; one never knows about these things, but given that the show has been broadcast in 120 countries . . . )

Thanks again!

CC-by

[edit]

Great, thanks--I'd like to experiment with this. Are they at Commons as well? That's where I put most Flickr photos for which I've gotten permission. The second question is, how come nobody has answered the many questions I've asked about this at various discussion pages, and how come no "image expert" knew this before? It's a serious problem that most people do not know this is possible. Badagnani (talk) 03:30, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe the Commons versions of the templates also allow for this. I don't know why nobody was able to answer your question; I would have had I seen any of the discussion up until now. howcheng {chat} 03:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You weren't right. I pasted the sample you gave me into a recent Commons upload and clicked "preview." Didn't work; the photo credit and link do not show up at all. That's why I began using the alternate license in the first place. Can we please get this fixed? Everyone I've asked to help with this eventually "forgets" about it, or seems quite disinterested right off the bat. Thanks, Badagnani (talk) 03:40, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alexz Johnson Photos

[edit]

After going to some trouble to get the licencing permissions for the Alez Johnson / Instant Star photos, I find that one of them was replaced with an unlicenced photo, by a person with a history of copyright violations, namely: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User_talk:Geniusd402

I just wanted to flag this point in case the problem continues. I reverted their edit to reinstate the properly licenced photo.

Thanks again for your help with the licencing permissions!

Photorealism Image Removal

[edit]

Hello, in your deletion of the image from the photorealism article you told me to look at example 2 of the Improper Image Use which states an image cannot be used that has a corporate image or logo. There was no logo or corporate image in the uploaded photo that I was aware of. It is however a famous image but is used for commentary and as a subject of study/information on the subject of photorealism. Any clarification of the deletion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Zachiroth (talk) 03:28, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Arg, the link changed. It's item 2 of the "Images" subsection of WP:NONFREE#Unacceptable use -- "A rose, cropped from a record album, to illustrate an article on roses." You have a nonfree photorealistic painting, used to illustrate the article on photorealism. I don't know if you can get your hands on a free image, but one can certainly be created (by somebody -- doesn't mean it has to be you). Since the image is replaceable a free use photorealistic painting, it can't be used here (WP:NONFREE#Policy item 1). Sorry for the confusion. howcheng {chat} 05:41, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Junco By Any Other Name...

[edit]

Not to be argumentative or difficult, but how confident are you that the image you placed in the taxobox at Dark-eyed Junco is actually a Junco? I'm a beginning birder myself - not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but when I looked at that image I have to admit to being a little skeptical on the ID. If it is a Dark-eyed Junco, I'm pretty certain it's not a member of the Slate-colored Junco hyemalis hyemalis subspecies, but you didn't change the caption, and I'm always open to the possibility of being wrong. Thanks. - Ken Thomas (talk) 00:15, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I was relying on the ID by the Flickr user, who seems to have a pretty good track record (I uploaded ~15 of his bird photos today), but now that I examine it closely, based on [7] it seems to look a lot more like the Oregon form. howcheng {chat} 00:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you don't object, but since the slate-colored version is the more common Junco subspecies, I thought it might be more appropriate to have a slate-colored Junco in the taxobox. I moved the Oregon Junco image into the body of the article (next to the Oregon Junco description, replacing a lower-quality image) and also corrected its description on Commons. Feel free to revert if you don't agree with the changes. Ken Thomas (talk) 18:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have absolutely no stake in the article or the photo, so whatever you think is best is fine with me. howcheng {chat} 16:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Howcheng

I just wanted to thank you for clearing the permissions for the Tenby Davies photos to be used, and repairing the links to the relevant page. I did just that. No response. See the image discussion page for more details. I've been around Wikipedia for quite a while. I know the ropes. There's not, as far as I can tell, going to be a freely licensed replacement. We can argue that perhaps one day someone might get such an image, but there isn't one today, and we don't know how we'd go about getting one, so I don't see the point of suggesting that the image is "replaceable"... replaceable with what, exactly? -Harmil (talk) 18:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Hell Gate Bridge do we really want to use an image which requires attribution on the article page? I really don't like seeing that there. - Denimadept (talk) 18:19, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it was simply his request that we add attribution there; we don't really have to have it. howcheng {chat} 18:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's his image, not so? If it's a question of "attribute or don't use", I suggest we revert or find another image. I've nothing against his wanting to mark his stuff; I have something against actually using the stuff so marked. - Denimadept (talk) 18:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not a "attribute or don't use" case. He just simply asked for it to be in the articles. I had told him that it wasn't customary to do so. I told him I would add attribution but it might be removed by other editors, which is fine with him. howcheng {chat} 18:27, 19 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for your message. My concern is not with Jordan Bayne's own website. The GFDL is all well and fine in relation to that. My concern is with the duplicate text when compared to another totally independent and copyrighted website, namely The Internet Movie Database, as specified. How do you know which source the text was copied and pasted from, and do you hold similar details as regards the IMDB, allowing Wikipedia to copy from there? I would be grateful for answers to the above, as the Jordan Bayne Wikipedia article similarity to the IMDB bio is alarming. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 00:40, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The IMDB bio is written by "blue eyed cherokee films" and if you look at her web site (which is pretty much the same as the IMDB bio), it says "© 2001-2008 Blue Eyed Cherokee". It seems pretty clear that the same entity has written both pages. howcheng {chat} 03:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Standing Bear Productions logo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Standing Bear Productions logo.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:27, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting that nice head shot of Maxine Swann. She is a pretty lady and my image didn't do her justice. -Regards Nv8200p talk 14:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't do anything in particular. She sent it in to us via OTRS. howcheng {chat} 18:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I'll watch for those little technicalities in the future. I'll be sending a follow up email, cheers. Spellcast (talk) 17:23, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've sent the new transcripts to the OTRS, thanks. Spellcast (talk) 20:03, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image issue

[edit]

I know you're busy but could you please take a look at something quickly? There is a dispute about the lead (infobox) image at Susie Castillo. The alternatives are a low-res headshot that is face on, and a hi-quality hi-res version that is a long photo and not such a good photo of her face. My argument is that the smaller image should be in the infobox, because regardless of quality issues, the proportions of image itself and the angle of the face are more suitable. User:David Shankbone, who took the other photo, argues that "I disagree with your reasoning, and highest quality needs to be the lead. Also, for someone who is a beauty pageant contestant, full body works better anyway". We're not going to get anywhere with this and I would appreciate another opinion, perhaps at the article talk page? Thanks. PageantUpdater talkcontribs 14:40, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately, such a transfer is not possible. The assignment of a copyright must be in writing to be effective, per 17 USC § 204 (a):

"A transfer of copyright ownership, other than by operation of law, is not valid unless an instrument of conveyance, or a note or memorandum of the transfer, is in writing and signed by the owner of the rights conveyed or such owner's duly authorized agent".

Cheers, though. bd2412 T 16:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Camouflage article

[edit]

It's been a long time coming, but I mentioned wanting to do a theory heavy re-write of the camouflage article (see here) and you were in favor of that. I have started work on such an article here. Right now my intent is to get it finished up in the next few days, then publish it under the title "Theory of camouflage" or something similar. That way I can put it up for a DYK nomination, which seems to be a good way to get lots of people to take a look and do some proofreading for me :). The current camouflage article could then be re-worked into an article on cryptic coloration (which already redirects there) and the title "camouflage" could be used as a disambiguation page. Let me know what you think. scot (talk) 17:08, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ghana Mission images

[edit]

Hi! I've uploaded the two images as Image:Ghana Mission 017.jpg and Image:Ghana Mission 247.jpg. Would you be willing to add the OTRS permission confirmation? —Remember the dot (talk) 03:37, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Next time, please use {{otrs pending}} instead of pasting in the contents of the email (to protect privacy). Thanks. howcheng {chat} 17:41, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Howcheng,

Have just promoted this as FP. Unfortunately we've just missed this year, but could I recommend this as a good POTD for ANZAC Day (April 25) next year. I know it's a long way off, but there must be a fair backlog by now anyway. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 08:52, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well we don't a year's worth of backlog but I can save this (I can just create it soon for next year), but is there another Australian holiday that might work out for this? Maybe Remembrance Day or something? howcheng {chat} 16:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I would have thought 11 November would be more appropriate being a FP specifically related to WWI, or 21st November if your looking for a tie in with the creator Norman Lindsay. Alternative 31 May as thats the date 90 years ago(1918) that all Australian troops on the Western Front came under command of Australian John Monash. Gnangarra 10:56, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect

[edit]

Regarding this, the image was tagged as fair use yet you deleted it under CSD#I9, Blatant copyright infringement, which explicitly states "This does not include images used under a claim of fair use". It is hard to understand this mistake, since the image was tagged so clearly as used under fair use. In the case that the copyright holder complained about the use, that is irrelevant to whether it is fair use--judges, not copyright holders, determine what uses are fair, and this usage would be fair use indeed (although I'd like to be emailed any such correspondence). I will be re-uploading the image under a fair use claim, as it was before, since it is a historical photo that cannot be replaced, and is important in the articles in which it appears. Ewenss (talk) 18:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

This is User:Deepak. Unfortunately, I've left Wikipedia. And sorry about that. I think somewhere down the line, I got too tempted to add false copyright tags in my attempt to add good images to Wikipedia and failed to realize the consequences. Cheers --98.223.115.18 (talk) 03:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aren't gonna save that for halloween as per [[12]]? --antilivedT | C | G 08:52, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, I thought that this had been designated for Halloween! Royalbroil 19:28, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah well, we had too much of a bloc of bugs, birds, and landscapes that I needed something to break the monotony. howcheng {chat} 04:18, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stab City Redirect

[edit]

According to the deletion discussion for the "Stab City" page, it was your good self who deemed it fair to redirect the page to Limerick (city)

Given that Limerick is not the only place in the world to be given this name, and the fact that most people from Limerick would find the term deeply offensive when used to refer to their city, I believe the newly redirected page constitutes an inflamatory redirect. Squidlimerick (talk) 18:37, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't my decision. If you look at the deletion discussion it was unanimously decided upon. I only implemented the community decision. However, please feel free to take this to WP:RFD. howcheng {chat} 02:49, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]
Updated DYK query On 28 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Rotabuggy, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Good job, fascinating topic! --Royalbroil 19:26, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusion: Image placeholders centralized discussion

[edit]

Hi. I'm sending this to you because you participated in the Centralized discussion on image placeholders that ended on 23 April.

That discussion must produce a conclusion.

We originally asked "Should the addition of this box [example right] be allowed? Does the placeholder system and graphic image need to be improved to satisfy policies and guidelines for inclusion? Is it appropriate to some kinds of biographies, but not to others?" (See introduction).

Conclusions to centralized discussions are either marked as 'policy', 'guideline', 'endorsed', 'rejected', 'no consensus', or 'no change' etc. We should now decide for this discussion.

Please read and approve or disapprove the section here: Conclusion --Kleinzach (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please note this message conforms to WP:CANVASSING and has not been sent to anyone has not already participated in the centralized discussion.

Do not be alarmed if you see that this has reappeared: seeing that the Ebay scam auction actually linked to the article, I thought it useful to recreate it as a warning to any hopeful bidders that it had been deleted as a blatant hoax. My idea is that the warning should stay till after 3 May when the auction closes. I notified the deleting admin, Black Kite. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. - DrHaroldForsythe (talk · contribs) who I think created the original article promptly blanked my warning; Cluebot restored it, but you might keep an eye on it - it's bed-time here. JohnCD (talk) 23:14, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.P.S. Black Kite has protected it. No problem. 05:11, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Discovery Map

[edit]

Your replacement for the deleted map is much appreciated. Would it be possible to move the red line (indicating to 82°17'S) so that it remains on the Ross Ice shelf, rather than going inland, as shown at present? If you drop the line vertically from the White Island corner, that will do the trick nicely. Many thanks again. Brianboulton (talk) 23:39, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy. I made a small edit to the Taylor Dayne article and noticed it was under full protection. Judging by your comment in the block log, I'm thinking maybe you didn't mean to do this? Can you check it out? Didn't want to lift the protection or semi-protection without asking you first. - eo (talk) 01:24, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
